Another week passed and Kagome had almost forgotten how slow time seemed to go as she was awaiting letters from various other ladies of different regions… Lord Hideki had sent congratulations along with the news of their recent mating and her rise to a new status.
The south, as in Itsuki's relatives, also passed on their congratulations and words of excitement to meet her in the future. The only side they hadn't heard from yet was their Northern allies.
Kagome was lounging today in Sesshoumaru's office as he worked on some tedious treaties that required his acute critique.
It was mid-afternoon before Jaken came running into the room, clutching a thick scroll with the urgency presented in his face, she knew it was one of the things she was dreading.
Handing it to Sesshomaru, who stayed unaffected and stoic as usual.
He unravelled the scroll and began to read… moments passed and it felt like eons before he stood and walked towards the hall.
"What does it say?" Kagome choked out, scrambling after him.
"We must converse with Mother first before I can say" he replied frostily.
Kagome's heart sank, Miyuki was pregnant… no doubt with what he just said…
Tears sprung forth and Kagome walked behind him to seek out Narumi.
Summoning Reiko as well, the four of them walked to the southern wing and found Narumi in her rooms, entertaining a Southern noble by the name of Lord Zentetsu.
"I'm sorry to interrupt Mother, but the matter is very urgent," Sesshoumaru spoke as they entered.
Understanding passed through her eyes as she apologized to the Jaguar demon who took his swift leave.
Waiting a moment for privacy, Sesshoumaru presented the scroll and she sat to read it.
Finishing it and turning to the group she explained what was in the scroll...
"Lord Kiyoshi confirms that his daughter is indeed with child and demands that hold a summit meeting in a few days time to decide on how our belittling alliance will go forth… he is very displeased that Sesshoumaru has taken an official mate in the interim… he claims we should cast out Kagome and instate Miyuki as the proper Lady of the Western Lands, for it is a much-preferred match and he claims that he has been insulted greatly at the public declaration that Kagome sent out last week…" Narumi summarized.
All faces looked to Sesshoumaru for he had to make the decision…
"Kagome is the Lady of the Western Lands… I won't budge on that… as for our alliance with the Northern Lands… and my future child… Lady Miyuki will become the mother of the heir, as is her right and we will salvage our rocky relationship with that, she may raise them and take the child up to their region until they come of age in 100 years time where I will begin to train them in becoming the next Lord of the Western Lands… if it is a girl then she will become a princess and will still be heir due to being my only full-blooded child and I will personally look over her future engagement." he decreed. All were silent but nodded at the finality of it.
Leaving Narumi's, Kagome followed Sesshoumaru back to his office. They needed to talk about how the future would now unfold with his choice.
A/N: So Miyuki is pregnant, and she won't back down until she is given the respect she deserves but like I mentioned before in an earlier chapter, being the mother of the heir is basically the same rank as Lady of the Western Lands, I like to compare it to medieval King's official mistresses that gave birth to a boy when the Queen couldn't or was unfortunate to have only had girls. She may be a bit snarky to Kagome still but she will mostly butt out of their affairs now.
