Prompt: Shisui finds something he shouldn't under the tatami
Ita/Saku Week 2021 🌸🍡
Growing up, Shisui was invited every week to his cousin's place for breakfast, his aunt Mikoto made the best omurice in the neighbourhood and well only Sasuke and he ate it. Itachi had a very particular palette and ate the same thing every morning growing up and it was cabbage onigiri.
Of all the things to eat in the morning but rice balls… when they were teenagers, Shisui tried to get Itachi into eggs but to no avail.
Sasuke accepted Itachi's weird tastes years ago and didn't try to change his brother. He was weird but weird was ok.
Fast Forward to the present day, Itachi had recently graduated college and entered the real estate industry.
His workweek was 7 am-7 pm, and no work on the weekends, instead he would have some late nights, especially if the sale was going poorly, or some sort of complication threw its wrench into his well-thought-out plans.
Breakfast had to be small and easy to make because he left for the office around 6:30 am.
Accepting the fact that he prepped everything the night before, Itachi just cooked and ate and he was gone before Shisui was even up most mornings.
It was a chilly autumn morning when Shisui appeared from bed around 9 am to warm up some coffee and putter around the kitchen like usual. He worked in the tech industry from home, unlike Itachi.
Spying some dirty dishes in the sink, he almost missed it, if it wasn't for the speak of yellow that caught his eye.
There were omelette crumbs in their sink! And it wasn't his! Shisui freaked out.
Later that night, when Itachi finally appeared home from work he found Shisui awaiting him at their kitchen table with a flashlight shining up to his face, like one of those old murder mysteries when the cop confronts the suspect.
"You had an omelette for breakfast!" Shisui accused him.
"I don't know what you are talking about?"Itachi replied swiftly, walking past briskly towards his room.
Shisui gathered up the evidence and followed him to his room.
"This pan that was soaking has egg and veggies on it bro" he presented it to him.
Itachi glanced before gathering some clothes and pushed him out of his way.
"That wasn't from this morning, that was last night's egg stir fry I brought home from work, they had given us free lunch which I brought leftovers back from" he explained before slamming the bathroom door in Shisui's face to shower before late dinner.
Shisui retreated… for now…
The next morning, he woke up at 7:30 am to inspect the kitchen for more crumbs of non-onigiri.
Not finding anything concrete he was walking back to bed when he passed the garbage and inspected that too.
Haha, more egg crumbs like he suspected. His cousin had finally diverted from blah breakfast to something yummy… but what had caused him to make such a distracting change in diet?
Deciding he needed to snoop around for better evidence, he walked back into his room for fresh clothing, wanting to eat and drink some well-needed coffee, he had time.
Not finding anything lying around in the common areas of their apartment, he knew he needed to invade his room. Wouldn't take him long, as Itachi was super organized and only had what he needed in his space and had very few personal items.
Beelining for his desk, he opened cupboards, drawers and even looked underneath but didn't find anything that wasn't work-related in some fashion. About to give up he noticed something different under his bed from the corner of his eye.
Gleefully he crawled across the room and pulled out a large "collection" box you could buy from any supermarket or better yet a home decor store.
Whispering sorry to the empty room as he felt a little guilty for wanting to go to such lengths, Shisui opened the lid and peered inside.
Itachi had a banking book, some fancy fountain pens, and a few loose notes. Getting to the bottom of the box, he found a pocket-sized notebook that he filtered through.
"July 8, 20xx
Why did I let Sasuke talk me into writing down my thoughts? Well, it's Tuesday and I have a very busy day ahead. The new client that Asuma-san referred, said he wasn't happy with being outbid on his dream house and that created a giant headache for the company but I managed to salvage his broken pride as I usually do. Work continued on, as usual, nothing unwary happened past this incident, after hours I agreed to meet the lovely Sakura-san for drinks as she presented me with a new recipe she had created…"
Shisui gasped… Itachi had met someone and she was sharing recipes with him?!
Flipping forward in time to last month in September.
"September 16, 20xx,
Sakura was impressed with my rendition of her fluffy onion omelette, she even gave some to her parents, which totally embarrassed me for we have not met yet. I haven't even told Shisui or Sasuke of my new relationship, knowing those two fools will never let me live it down... Ugh well I planned on waiting till probably thanksgiving to fill them in, it's so new and who knows if things will last long, no use getting their hopes up before this plane even takes off."
Sitting back and processing. So Itachi kept a diary now and he had obtained a new girlfriend since his last big relationship with a girl named Izumi, a girl they went to high school with and he wasn't going to tell him or his brother any time soon in case they broke up…
Feeling bad now, Shisui put the box and contents away and tried to make it seem like it went undisturbed. He left and went back to his own room.
Two weeks passed and he didn't say anything more to Itachi who continued to act oblivious.
Sasuke finally called him to ask if he thought Itachi was acting weird lately.
"Hmm? Nothing different here, why did something happen?" Shisui asked, faking innocence.
"We went to lunch with Naruto and well, Itachi as you know, always has the same type of ramen every time, and Naruto had convinced him to try their new flavour today… Naruto?! Of all people, I started to worry that the world was coming to an end" Sasuke complained while telling his story of work lunch.
Shisui sighed before inviting him over as soon as possible, preferably during the day when Itachi was out of the house.
Coming over the next day, Sasuke followed Shisui into Itachi's room to which he hesitated voicing that they were going too far just to find out the truth of the weirdness in their cousin/brother.
"I agree with you but I've already seen it and I don't think you would believe it if you didn't see it yourself," Shisui explained.
Cringing slightly Sasuke prepared himself for something ghastly, thinking it was going to change his opinion on his older brother but Shisui only pulled a box out from under Itachi's bed.
Gathering the diary he allowed Sasuke to read for a few moments, awaiting the outrage he was sure would follow.
Putting the book down, Sasuke spoke.
"Sakura-san is best friends with my girlfriend Hinata… I introduced them at the beginning of the summer… didn't think that they clicked through… She is a small business owner who just opened up a cafe underneath her condo she bought on the east side of town" Sasuke revealed.
Shisui pouted, so Sasuke kinda knew but no one was going to tell him?
Getting the nerve to see it for himself… Shisui had googled the place in his spare time and decided to scope out her business, partly for Itachi's sake but he also wanted to get dessert for dinner and well she had great reviews online so far.
Entering the establishment, she appeared from the back, lightly covered in flour but greeted him with a lovely smile.
"Welcome to Blossom Loafs, how can I help you?" she asked with a soft voice.
Shisui picked out buns for slider sandwiches and a nice light dessert for dinner before standing at the till to pay. He had observed her in their short interaction and admitted that she was quite attractive and felt a slight pang of jealousy towards his cousin.
"Hmm, Sorry if this is sudden but you look like a friend of mine… Uchiha Sasuke?" she inquired peering closely at him.
"I know him quite well, I'm his cousin Uchiha Shisui '' he introduced himself happily knowing she connected the dots in their looks.
"Are you possibly Itachi-san's roommate I keep hearing about?" she then asked.
"Yup, all of the other cousins are slightly estranged from their family at the moment" he revealed.
Sakura then went on to introduce herself personally as Itachi's girlfriend and Shisui ended up staying for afternoon tea with his new friend.
At the end of the day, Itachi stormed into the apartment, holding his out phone texting app for Shisui to see.
"Ita-kun,
I just met your cousin/roommate, why haven't you introduced us sooner?" Sakura's text read with a pouty emoticon next to it.
He sweatdropped.
"How did you find out about her?!" He confronted him, annoyed.
"Well, since the omelettes I found in the garbage after that morning, I investigated a little before Sasuke phoned asking some interesting questions, concerned for your well-being" he began lightly.
Itachi learned that day to invest in a door lock and remembered to tell Sasuke that diaries were nonsense and he wouldn't ever take advice from him again.
Shisui was forgiven but in exchange, was forced to reveal one of his personal secrets of equal value.
He was forced to tell Itachi about joining an anime/otaku club at their college to which Itachi laughed as expected but all was forgiven and their lives resumed to normal with the addition of the lovely Haruno Sakura, Itachi's lovely girlfriend.
A/N: Happy Wednesday, Isn't Shisui a fun roommate? Poor Itachi, but Shisui only meant well but should have known better than to snoop on his cousin. I'm kinda a Sasu/Hina fan, I totally agree with the canon pairing of Naru/Hina but I can see the alternate appeal for Sasuke if Sakura wasn't his choice. Anyways I also love the idea of Sakura owning her own bakery if she was living a modern lifestyle in an alternate universe :3 As always feel free to review, comment, fav, follow, kudos, bookmark, fav, and like on either platform or both.
