In the long-forgotten past, there are mischievous souls that haunt the living, we call these spirits and most of humanity was lucky enough to never encounter one, but it was said that if you tainted a pure soul, a curse may follow you and your kin till they were satisfied in blood… beware minx's, foxes, weasel's, tanukis and any other creatures that liked to play games…
Her breath hitched as goosebumps crept over her uncovered arms, waiting to hear footsteps come closer, tracking her from her now ruined home. The smoke lingered on her hands as she covered her mouth and held her breath, anticipating the proximity of her hunters.
They had burned everything and killed all that were in the way. She managed to escape under the cover of the billowing smoke coming from the poorly built huts they previously lived in.
Darkness blanketed her as she stumbled towards the town shrine in the nearby under grove, the trees here overlapped their branches and the natural light was scarce. A good cover for those that would follow. She thought she had time, but someone must have noticed her. Glancing at her injured leg, as one of the men's weapons, a ninja weapon with sharp edges nicked her as she hid behind her mother as they busted down the entrance to their little hut.
"…"
*crack*
A chill ran down her spine and she bolted as fast as she could to the haven, arriving at the grounds, she scrambled up the stairs and to the main hall of the shrine to the fox deity. There was nowhere to hide now but she hoped her prayers would be heard and her soul would be salvaged…
No more footsteps but the sound of the shoji doors sliding open behind her was her indicator that she was now cornered, and she would meet her fate…
She dared to look behind and only saw glowing red pinwheels.
As the haze of the genjutsu began overtaking her senses, all she felt was hands-on arms and her clothes being roughly pulled off of her, the cool night air hitting her sensitive budding nipples of her now exposed breasts.
Departing, after they were satisfied the young woman wept until she couldn't any longer, red blood pooled around her frame as it mixed with her unusual pink hair that she had grown out in hopes of attracting a local farmer boy into courting her but alas no future was her reality now…
With the last of her strength, she resumed her prayer.
Chime bells rang and she awakened in a space of darkness with white ripples below her, they were imitating the sound surrounding her.
Faintly a blue flame appeared before a lady with orange hair appeared in the place of the flame and she was shocked to see it was a kitsune. Bowing she thought her prayers were answered.
"Do you want revenge, young one?" the mysterious lady asked simply.
The girl paused, looking up at the lady confused, wasn't she on her way to a peaceful afterlife?
"In your moments before death, you wanted to end those who hurt you" she continued.
Feeling slightly guilty for thinking dark things, in her final moments, she did want her justice…
She took the hand that kitsune held out and made a death contract, a soul for revenge…
Reawakening as a new kitsune, the woman now smirked. Time to hunt them in return.
The men returned to their home village of Konohagakure, a budding new village that was just recently created between the Uchiha clan and Senju clan.
Conflict with one of the Sunagakure clans was proving to become a nuisance. They were ambushed on their way back, and unfortunately, a small village on the outskirts of the border was caught in the middle of the skirmish, and after they were successful in killing the sand-nin, they decided to pillage the remaining homes for food and water, but unexpectedly a young woman survived and well no one would know so they decided to have some fun with her before killing her also. The official report would claim that all citizens were killed in the attack with no survivors.
Reporting to the 1st Hokage, Uchiha Madara, they told him the ending result of the fight and the unfortunate casualties.
"Izuna… keep in mind, next mission to keep civilian casualties to a minimum, they could have been in an alliance with Sunagakure, and given them more of a reason to carry on this feud…" Madara reprimanded him coldly.
He had stepped over a line… and would hear more about this later but he nodded in understanding before Madara dismissed his team.
Walking towards the door, Izuna paused before closing the door behind him.
Madara glared, knowing his little brother was getting a bit too greedy now that he had become the leader of the village…
Disguising herself as a travelling merchant, the newly awakened kitsune travelled to the nearest ninja village to her home and was disgusted to see so many people lived here, in the protection of such ruthless people. She wasn't even sure who she was looking for yet.
It didn't take her long to find the village center and decided to rest at a fountain and observe the people walking around. The ninja seemed to be the ones wearing armour in comparison to that of its citizens. Masking her presence, everyone continued to ignore her.
A couple of mothers with children passed by midday and she had found her target. Following them at a distance, they unknowingly led her to the Uchiha district.
Izuna and his comrades were resting at a little café in the middle of town. They were on patrol duty, and the summer heat was becoming a bit unbearable. Passing around a jug of iced green tea they gossiped about others and upcoming politics in the village.
"I heard that the Uzumaki clan of Uzushiogakure, was considering joining our village, they want to survive a coup de et attempt they believe is coming, and only we can ensure their survival." Said Kazuya, laughing at the absurdity of it.
"Well, that must mean we are the most powerful of the 5 great nations." boasted the other.
Izuna purposely said nothing, for his arrogance might get him in more trouble. Plus, after his talk with his brother the night before, if he said anything more, they would find out about the survivor of the village they exploited…
Breaking away from the woman's path, the kitsune looked around to see where her targets may live and decided to wait in some nearby bushes till they showed up. She could be patient; she had all the time in the world now.
Towards the end of the day, she spotted their patrol and followed them till he was alone and heading home. Reaching her intended target. She surveyed the outside of the home before inside. He had a pretty wife who was clearly with child, and they had another one already… this made her even more infuriated, he betrayed his beloved and family to rape her? no… death would not be enough for this man…
Leaving, she headed back to the forest where she needed to consult her new kin.
She learned magic, illusionary techniques, shapeshifting, and curses. A kitsune was a spirit that relied on their cunning wit and many tricks. If she was serious about cursing this man and his clan for his misgivings then she couldn't be caught by humans, or it would all be for naught.
Months passed and she was ready.
"As a sign of acceptance from me and the beginning of your new existence… you will now cast away your human identity and claim a new one…. You will now be known as… Yotsuna" the elder kitsune told her.
The young girl that was killed and mistreated, traded her pink locks for orange like her mistress and her eyes faded into a sharp silver tinge.
Uchiha Yumiko, wife of Izuna woke one morning, getting ready for the day when she discovered their children were missing from their beds, her screams echoed across the neighbourhood. Everyone in the area gather at Izuna and Yumiko's home in the early morning hours to help with the search and scrambled to see if the children had woken and wandered off in the nearby foliage. Days passed and there was no sign of them. Yumiko fell into a deep depression and Izuna was torn between consoling her or trying to convince her to just try for more children. The odds of them being safe were gone after a week. She was quite bitter at the suggestion that they could just replace lives that they already welcomed into their hearts, and this was the beginning of the breakdown of their relationship. Married for life but she withdrew and kept to herself.
Disgraced and humiliated, Izuna tried to convince Madara that they should dispose of his now useless wife, and he would remarry, only to redeem his own ruined reputation. Madara, being Hokage, could not grant his brother's request because it was a conflict of interest… and a rift began between the brothers.
Izuna started staying away from the house and took on more missions. He couldn't do anything about her, but he could try to be more useful to the village and maybe that would offset the poor rumours and how people were now talking about his wife.
Off on the sidelines was Yotsuna who was greatly enjoying this drama she started. In the dead of the night, she lured his children away into the spirit world with her tricks and their young souls were for the picking to other kitsune. Yes, death was an easy out and she would make his life difficult since he was such a vain man.
The loss of his family was short-lived when she noticed he was sleeping around with other women since he was denied a remarriage. Children arising from these couplings were spirited away like his first batch. He would have no offspring… She was determined.
Before long, talk of children getting spirited away was on the rise and fear spread. Her kin disapproved of her methods for it was beginning to impact their hunts.
Ignoring the warnings, she carried on with her scheme. Things were not going the way she hoped. He had won many battles and his reputation had been repaired over time that no one even bothered to mention his quiet wife who only stayed home by herself.
Nothing fazed this man…
Deciding enough was enough she took her revenge and lured the group, while out on a mission to a secluded inn on the outskirts of a town, promising a fun time and once she had gotten their guard down enough, she slaughtered them all, taking in the pleasure of their slow demise as she made is agonizing as possible. The two underlings didn't last long and passed on first, and it was only Izuna, Yotsuna shifted her appearance to that of her human identity and his eyes glazed over with fear for he recognized her.
"You're… that bitch we raped back in that…village…" he sputtered as more blood flowed down his chin.
"Yes, and your death is my gratification, oh and before you die know this, you are the reason your pitiful clan will now fall under my eternal curse. I will take your offspring and your clan will be no more…" she told him, smirking.
No words would matter now so instead with his last strength, Izuna spat at her hoping she would feel his wrath.
Yotsuna took joy in when she took a sharp claw and tore through each essential muscle in his legs, keeping him upright, each yell was like music to her ears. Collapsing, his body shuttered in shock as he began to slowly die. Roughly grasping his chin, she forced him to keep his eyes on her as she then plunged her clawed hand straight through his heart and laughed as she watching the life leave his eyes, soul departing for the otherworld. She tossed his body next to the others before disappearing back into the forest.
Madara was enraged when news of his brother and clansman deaths reached his desk. Their deaths were so gruesome that no one could pinpoint where to point the blame…
Diplomatic with no evidence, he couldn't send an unwarranted attack on any ninja village at this time. Things were already getting messy with reports of rogue-tailed beasts roaming around causing chaos.
They would be buried with their clansman and that would be it.
Sometime later, Uchiha children started disappearing and the fear returned, first Izuna and Yumiko's children and now everyone's? Rumours began that Izuna must have angered a vengeful spirit for it made sense with the disappearance of his offspring and his gruesome end.
Mothers kept their children close and always watched them, and fewer children went missing at first but then they began telling tales of drums and string instruments calling them outside during the night.
Upon the end of the first shinobi war, the worse beast the nine-tailed fox demon was sealed inside Senju Hashirama's new wife, the Uzumaki Mito and it was discovered her presence in the village kept the other spirit away and Uchiha children were now safe due to the proximity…
Mothers started a chilling warning to the next generations of being spirited away by foxes if you left the protected one with nine tails… and the jinchuriki that carried it…
