Chapter 1: Poison of Life
"I'm sorry, but I doubt that Izuku will walk again." The doctor said to a ten-year-old Izuku and his mother Inko as the last teared up and Izuku looked at his legs.
Just days before, Izuku was ran over a car, hitting him on the hips and fracturing his spine. With how quirks help medicine, it was expected that it was something that it would be easy to solve.
It wasn't.
The lumbar vertebrae were completely destroyed. All of them. There were some operations to repair them, but it may cause more damage to the already broken body of the kid.
So now, quirkless and paralyzed, his chances of becoming a hero were zero.
And he accepted it.
*Weeks Later*
Izuku was on a wheelchair, and his friend, Katsuki Bakugo was moving him around the streets. Katsuki, who had bullied him for being quirkless, had a change of heart after the accident and decided to protect his friend, and be a hero for both of them.
"You don't have to do this, you know Kachan?" Izuku said softly and Katsuki snorted.
"I don't care. Some fresh air will help you." Katsuki answered and Izuku smiled at him. Katsuki frowned "You know, there isn't a thing I will give, for you to walk again."
Izuku smiled "I know. I would love to run or walk again. But... it is impossible. Not even a quirk can do it." He said with a sad smile "I can't be a hero, I can't walk, I can't even go to the bathroom..."
Katsuki frown intensified "I don't give a shit. You're still my best friend, and we will stick together, no matter what."
*Later*
Rei Midoriya, Izuku's uncle, is a scientist. Maybe a mad one, but a scientist anyways. He was invited to Inko's home to talk about Izuku's accident and if he can solve it.
"Nope." Inko gulped at his carefree answer.
"T-There isn't anything you-"
"Nope." Rei answered again "Look Ink; I like you and all, not only for being the widow of my brother, but you are nice and shit. But, come on! His spine is destroyed! I doubt that even a robot can make the kid walk again."
Inko started to tear up "B-But you are the smartest man I know! If someone can make him walk again, it is you!"
Rei scratched the back of his head "Thanks for feeding my ego, but I doubt that there is something I can do." Then he remembered. The old project he worked on, but was dropped for being too dangerous. "Well... there is something. But I want to meet the kid."
Once Izuku arrived and was introduced to his uncle, he shared his idea "Long time ago, I started something revolutionary. Something that would solve hundreds, if not thousands of lives. I called it, the Goblin Toxin."
"Goblin Toxin?" Izuku asked and Rei nodded.
"Yep. It is a serum that acts like an enhancer to the body. It increases strength, speed and it even, can fix body parts." At that last part, Izuku's eyes widened. "Don't get too excited yet. The serum is called toxin for a reason. With all the materials in it, it can result as fatal for the body and mind. Besides that, you would need a shot everyday just to stay healthy, and it is worse that heroine. Too little, and you will deuterate, too much, god knows what it would happen. So, my question is, would you want to risk your health, your life, to walk again?"
Izuku looked at his legs covered by a blanket. He would love to do it, but... he almost lost everything, and to risk it again... was it worth it?
To get back his chance to become a hero... to save people... yes.
"I do." Izuku said with determination "I will take the Goblin Toxin."
Rei smirked "Great! Now let's go to the lab to make some."
"Wait... lab?" Inko asked and Rei nodded.
"Yeah, I want to teach the little pumpkin how to make his own so he won't depend on someone like me. Besides, I want to see if Hashi's son have the scientist touch with him."
*4 Years Later*
"So... this is it. The complete Goblin Toxin." Rei said drinking a beer in the dark lab as Izuku held the dose in his hand. It was a small tube filled with green liquid. Izuku had bags under his eyes as he watched with awe the final result.
"4 years... and it is done... get me the syringe uncle!" He screamed and Rei rolled his eyes. He grabbed a needle and handed it to Izuku who connected the tube with the needle, rolled his sleeve and placed the syringe on his arm. "This better work..."
He pushed the needle inside his arm and pressed the liquid inside his veins. His eyes widen, his whole body started to burn, he dropped the syringe and Rei got by his side "Hey Izu! You okay!?"
Izuku panted and nodded "Yeah... I think so..."
"Cool... so... did it work?"
"I don't know... how do we test it?" Izuku asked and Rei rolled his eyes.
"Stand up you dork. Let's see if those legs work."
Izuku nodded and as the burning sensation faded away, he could feel his legs. It was a numbness he hasn't felt in years. He grabbed his right leg and pulled it out of the wheelchair and did the same with the left one. He tried to put strength in them and he stood up in shaky legs. He stumbled a bit before standing still.
"It worked... Uncle! It worked!"
*Next Day*
"You can walk!" Katsuki screamed as he watched with happiness how his friend stood up with walking sticks.
"With help but yeah, I can walk again. And soon I will run." Izuku said and Katsuki was holding the urges to hug him.
"How?"
Izuku smiled "What can I say, Uncle created a genius."
But he still remembers what he told him; "One shot per day, the exact dose. Too little, bad for you, too much, even worse."
There is no way he will become some sort of addict. He will just use the toxin to walk. Nothing more, nothing else.
