The "As Many As You Want" Competition: Yule Ball, falling, snowflakes, gold, NOtp, She'd never wanted this, Christmas
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter.
The Yule Ball was in full swing as the students jammed to the tunes of the Weird Sisters. Other partiers were mingling around the food and drink tables, laughing among themselves and just having a good times. They were all celebrating the champions of the Triwizard Tournament, the dangers of the entire competition forgotten amidst the bright lights and infectious energy.
The Great Hall was decorated in whites, reds and golds, with many large Christmas trees along the walls. Small snowflakes were falling onto the ballgoers before disappearing completely into thin air. Everyone was dressed in their best and most festive dress robes and dresses. Some girls complimented others on their hair and makeup, while others chose to insult a few girls to tears, namely the Slytherins.
Cho stood to the side of the large room listening to Cedric drone on and on about Quidditch. She knew they were both Seekers, but she was sure they could have had something else to talk about than the sport all the time. She was interested in the arts but Cedric didn't even know how to pick up a paintbrush.
Her eyes moved across the dance floor to see Harry sitting moodily at a table a few feet away, looking as if he was having a horrible time as well. His date Parvati was out on the dance floor with another boy, leaving Harry alone to brood. Cho frowned a bit before placing a hand on Cedric's arm, causing him to stop mid-sentence and asking him to get her a drink. He nodded before flashing her a dazzling smile before walking away. Cedric was nice and handsome but she just didn't feel as if they were very compatible.
She made her way over to Harry and took a seat beside him. He looked at her lazily before sitting up suddenly. He gave her a sheepishly smile before he looked around her. "Hi, Cho. Where's Cedric?"
Cho said quietly, "I sent him to get me a drink, but I really wanted to come over and talk to you."
Harry looked a bit shocked and then asked, "Why me?"
Cho sighed and then reached over and said, "I think I made a mistake coming to the Yule Ball with Cedric. If I could rewind time, then I would have liked to go with you. I'm sure we would have had a great time together instead of having a horrible time apart."
Harry smiled sadly and said, "I wish I had asked you sooner before you ever said 'yes' to Cedric."
She nodded and was about to say something more when Cedric came over and handed her a cup. He smiled at her and Harry and said, "Hi, Potter."
Harry nodded and said, "Diggory."
But Cedric didn't really wait for the acknowledgement. He was already helping Cho out of her seat and leading her away from the table. It was in that moment that she realized she'd never wanted this. She looked over her shoulder sadly, Harry giving her a small wave, and again she felt like she had made the wrong choice.
