He knew that his temper was starting to get a little bit out of hand. He was struggling to control his temper around his teammates. Instead of being calm and polite like he usually was, he knew that his answers were starting to get snarkier, and more sarcastic, instead of keeping his impassive stare on his face. He was starting to unconsciously glare at everyone. More than once, his teammates had asked him if something was wrong, or if something was bothering him. His foul mood was starting to make people notice him, all of them cringing away when they realized that he was there.
The sorrow that he felt when being denied the chance to be with his team, quickly turned into anger and frustration. He was just angry at his parents. Furious that they had finally decided to pay attention to him after nearly 17 years. Furious that they decided to take control of his life after he had been living on his own since he was 12, and they didn't even have the decency to return home to try and control him themselves.
He slammed the door behind him when he got home and he didn't even bother trying to do chores or homework like he usually did. He barely remembered that he had to feed Nigou, but once he did that, he threw his phone onto his bed and wrenched off his clothes.
Within minutes, he was wearing his usual fighting clothes and was walking back out of the house with his duffel bag. He didn't bother putting in his contacts, he didn't bother using his hair wax to hide his hair. Instead, he just stormed out of the house, shoving his beanie over his hair as he did so.
Had he calmed down, or waited for a few more seconds before he stormed off.
He would have noticed Kagami and Hyuuga staring at him.
He jumped when he heard the door slamming open and bouncing off of the wall before it was slammed open again. He didn't even get a chance to turn around before the person who slammed open the door stomped past him," Uh…" He just watched as Black stormed into the room," You're here early. Really early actually."
It was barely six in the evening. Granted, Wrath was early too, but that was because he wasn't going to have a match that night and he wanted to take advantage of the empty room to get some practice in.
Black had a match later that night and was almost six hours early. Most of the time, they would have relaxed until it was time to fight. Which was why it didn't make sense why he was there so early.
"And?" Black practically growled out his words as he wrapped his hands up.
Yikes.
He was pissed.
That would explain why he didn't bother putting in his eye contacts. It looked like Black had stormed his way there first chance he got.
" Just wondering why you're here," Wrath started to approach Black, who was standing right in front of the punching bag that was down there," Don't you have a match later on?"
He took a step back as Black unleashed his anger onto the punching bag. The small boy hitting the bag hard enough to make it swing and jump on its chain. The boy hit the bag a few more times before turning to Wrath," Listen Wrath," His voice was low and trembling, but based on the look at his face, Black's voice was trembling from his restrained anger," Leave me alone, or I'm going to snap. Okay?" There was a strained smile on Blacks face, one that was accompanied by veins throbbing on his forehead and his hands clenching and unclenching.
Leave him alone.
He could definitely do that.
With a heavy sigh, he pushed open the doors, welcoming the cool night air that blew onto his sweaty face.
He was exhausted. After a few hours of letting his anger out on a punching bag, he had a match that he had to win before going back home. And now that he had finished his match and got paid. All he wanted to do was to go home and relax.
But he felt much better. He was calmer, and his thinking was clear again. He had hit his fists bloody with the punching bag, but that combined with the match was enough for him to work through his current problem. Now that he was thinking clearly, he was able to think about how he was going to work around his parent's new restrictions.
It was easy to avoid the ones about his curfew, he just had to leave his phone at home. The one about school, that one was easy as well, he was never one to be late or one to be ditching classes. The ones he was going to struggle with were going to be the ones about his games and practices.
There was no way he was going to be able to work around those rules unless he paid someone to be picking up his phone and taking it home, which was something that he was not going to do. He was going to have to hope that his parents would realize just how unreasonable their rules are.
He didn't think they were going to change their minds though.
Once he was a decent distance away from the warehouse, he took off his beanie and ruffled his hair. Feeling relief as the wind started to cool his scalp. He winced when he took off his hand wraps, the cloth pulling at the broken skin on his knuckles. He had a feeling that he had overdone it with the punching bag. So he wasn't particularly surprised that the skin was raw and broken.
As he was in the process of tenderly pulling the cloth from his raw knuckles, a hand landed on his shoulder. Scaring the living shit out of him.
Without missing a beat, he grabbed the fingers and bent them backward, he heard someone hissing in pain, but he didn't stop there. With a simple technique he had learned in middle school, he flipped the person over and quickly pinned him to the ground," Ow! Ow!" He froze when he heard the voice, but did not let go.
"Let go! Its us!" Someone pulled him off of Kagami, and once he jerked his shoulders out of their grip, he realized that it was Hyuuga who had pulled him off.
"Jesus Kuroko," Kagami groaned as he peeled himself off the cement, wiping off the gravel that had gotten embedded in his cheek," I guess that's what I get for scaring you like that."
Kuroko couldn't stop staring at them, the only thing he did was stare on with a clenched jaw as his team captain and teammate stood over him. Both of them looked tired and annoyed. But for some reason,
He could see the disappointment in their eyes.
"I can't say that I'm surprised you reacted like that," Kagami narrowed his eyes as he crossed his arms across his chest," Considering that I just saw you beat that man black and blue."
They stared at each other, Kuroko staring up defiantly at them, Hyuuga and Kagami staring down at him. He could see concern, anger, and disappointment in Hyuuga's eyes. While Kagami just looked upset and disappointed.
They stood in silence for almost an entire minute, but it was Hyuuga who broke the silence," How long as this been going on Kuroko?" Kuroko flicked his eyes to Hyuuga, whose look of anger turned into a look of concern.
He didn't answer the question.
Kagami bristled at his lack of an answer and quickly sneered," What? You don't feel like talking now?" Kagami leaned forward, a snarl on his face as he continued," You were pretty talkative during that fight. What? You only talk shit when you know you're going to win?"
That just pissed Kuroko off.
"Piss off Kagami," The tone of his voice visibly threw off his teammates, this was likely the first time they had heard him be so angry," What I do after school is none of your business.
"None of our business?!" Hyuuga stepped forward, he had an unbelieving tone to his voice," Kuroko! You're fighting in illegal matches!" Kuroko's lips started to curl up in a snarl as his captain confronted him," I don't know what's worse! The fact that you're fighting or that you're good at it!"
"And its none of your business," His words were growled out through his clenched teeth.
Kagami let out a growl," It's our business when our friend is fighting like some moron!" Hyuuga stepped forward and was taking a different approach.
"Kuroko, please, what about your parents? How would they feel if they found out their son was fighting?"
Kuroko paused at the question, staring at Hyuuga before a bubble of laughter flowed past his lips.
His sudden bout of laughter surprised his teammates, but it was the way the laugh sounded surprised them more.
It was bitter and scornful.
Nothing like the quiet laughter they have heard from him.
Kuroko stopped laughing and took in a breath once he finished," Do you really think my own parents could remember me to care?" His question shocked them, but he continued," Do you have any idea how long its just been me? You ask that like my parents are even around to notice."
His tone quickly took a turn," Of course they don't know!" He was glaring at the two of them, his face was twisted in anger, "They barely remember that they have a son! They forgot to take me with them when they left to work overseas! They left me here! They left me here and they didn't bother coming back! I've been taking care of myself for five years now! I've been alone for FIVE YEARS!"
He was screaming at them at that point, his chest heaving up and down as he finally voiced the source of his anger and frustration for the first time. Kagami's and Hyuuga's faces were pale, but he continued," Five years of me coming home to an empty house! Five years of me trying my best to live without my parents! And like a fucking idiot! I told them that it was fine!"
Hyuuga came out of his stupor and took a step forward, extending his hands to grab Kuroko even as the boy took a step back and slapped his hands away," And they thought sending me money every month was enough for me! They thought I was fine living without them when all I wanted was for them to see me! All I want is for my parents to remember that I'm their son for once in their fucking lives!"
He continued slapping Hyuuga's hands away, but just as he was about to start another rant when Hyuuga said something that made him stop in his tracks," I'm sorry," He stared up at his team captain in shock," I'm sorry Kuroko."
Hyuuga gently pulled him into his arms and held him against his chest.
"I'm sorry, I didn't realize how lonely you were." His statement was enough to bring Kuroko out of his shock, and he quickly started to struggle against the hold his captain had on him. Despite his growls for his senior to let go of him, he didn't.
"Its okay Kuroko," A shaky hand was cradling the back of his head. It was such a loving show of affection, it made him realize just how much he missed someone holding him like that. He forgot how safe he could feel when someone was holding him like that," Just let it out."
He frantically shook his head, trying to keep some sort of composure in the entire situation.
He couldn't stop it, a small whine came from the back of his throat, a whine that was quickly followed up by a small sniffle.
Before long, his tears were staining Hyuugas shirt.
