My personal headcanon is that Hermione is very short, around 5 foot, and that she obliviated her parents after the Quidditch World Cup.

No, it was not because it was the first breakfast of the new school year and she was covered in mysterious goop thanks to the twins.
Nor was it because she missed her parents deeply, after obliviating them so they would forget her existence.

Neither of those two things were the reason that her hair was sparking with pure magical power. It was because of a pamphlet, in lurid pink, titled "100 Ways to be a Proper Lady".
