Hello dear readers!
I'm back with a new chapter after a long, long wait….
I'm trying to update more frequently from now on!
As I've written this chapter here in only a few hours, without double reading it, there definitely are spelling errors or some other mistakes. If you find one, ignore it, or tell me major ones. I'm going to proofread it after uploading it.
I hope you enjoy(ed) the story so far!
Chapter 16 Their view aka "A new start and introducing Mr. Cell"
Chichi hummed an unknown melody – probably one she just made up – when Goku entered the room he had gotten from Mr. Sato for his temporary stay. He knew she would be here, waiting for him, so he had saved himself the pain to walk towards her room first. It would have been empty anyway. Goku sighed somewhat in relief seeing her being so carefree.
In fact, she did not even realize he had entered the room. Leaning his back against the wooden door, he crossed his arms and smiled warmly at her sight.
She sat on the bed, her knees bent, and her head nodded rhythmically to the song she was humming. She obviously flipped through some magazines without really showing any interest to the articles which were in there. Her mouth formed a rather cute pout – probably a movement she did without realizing – while she kept on humming. Seeing her like that reminded him that she indeed simply was a 24-year-old young woman. It made him relax, somehow.
When her eyes suddenly spotted him standing there, the magazine was thrown to the side with a flick of her wrist and an overjoyed "Goku!" greeted him, accompanied by one of the most radiant smiles he had ever seen on her face. With hasty movements she got off the bed and was welcomed by his warm embrace. "I've missed you!" she exclaimed and pushed her nose further into his chest.
Goku chuckled before lifting her up in his arms so that she was looking at him from above. Her bottom fit awfully nicely into his hands. But he tried to ignore that, as well as the way her legs squeezed his torso comfortably. "It's only been 20 hours!" he answered while shaking his head lightly. Chichi cupped his cheeks gently and seriously gazed into his eyes. "Don't even joke about that, every minute – no, every second was pure torture!"
He could tell he was teasing her now, but he was willing to play her game. "Why, pray tell me what made it this horrible?"
Chichi sighed theatrically and closed her eyes in fake distress. "The loneliness, the empty sheets of the bed, the silence in the room…!"
"Dear god, what a boring day!"
"Isn't it?! I was wondering when my hero in shining armor would finally save me from this!"
Goku inclined his neck lightly and looked around the room. "I wonder too, when he will appear. Any idea who it might be?"
She hit his upper arm with her fist what only made him laugh out loud and yell out an "Ow!" in fake pain.
"Goku! Who else might it be if not you? Argh….you ruined the whole play!"
Chuckling, he sat her down again and kissed her forehead lovingly. "I'm sorry for teasing you."
"Seriously, I've really missed you." she sadly whispered as she grabbed his hands and squeezed them lightly as to make sure, he was really here. Back with her.
"I know. I came back as fast as I could." Goku's facial expression changed as he realized he had to tell her what he wanted, or more what he needed to do. She noticed his change in the split of a second and breathed in audibly. He could tell she was afraid of him telling her he had to leave. And he also knew she was readying herself for another of her fits, to take her with him, if not willingly, then definitely by some force from her side.
"What did your boss say?" her voice slightly quivered in anticipation.
"I got another assignment from him." Goku decided to just be honest with her. He needed to, if he wanted her to understand that he only was going to take her with him because he needed her beside him to be safe for the time being. Or more like, he believed she was safer with him than with her grandfather. Not that he would not take her with him either way. Having her with him was good for him.
"Another investigation case?"
He simply nodded as he drew calming circles on the back of her hands with his thumbs.
"Is it..." she licked her suddenly dry lips and Goku followed the movement of her tongue like in trance. "..is it going to be dangerous?"
Stopping himself to follow his thoughts to other dimensions, unbefitting their conversation, he simply shrugged his shoulders and pulled her towards the bed where he sat down and placed her into his lap. "I can't foretell the amount of work coming up, honestly. It depends on the things relating to the matter."
She simply nodded, her gaze towards the ground. She needed a few seconds to be brave enough to ask the next question. "Do you need to leave?"
He exhaled audibly through his nose as he nodded. "I do."
With a certain glint in her eyes, she looked at him and bit her lower lip in a rather cheeky fashion. "You know I'm not letting you leave without me, right?"
Grinning back, he answered her "I've expected that much. But I can calm you. I would have taken you with me either way."
Chichi's eyes grew large at his statement. "You…would?! Then why did we have to argue last night about this when you are willing to take me with you?" She poked his chest with her index finger angrily. Capturing her hand to stop her assaulting his muscle, he kissed each fingertip gently before answering her very seriously. "Before, I had no idea what my new assignment was all about. But now I know that your grandfather is involved, and I can't let you be with someone who might be a danger to you. Not ever again do I want you to be in such danger as you've already been."
"Ha!" Chichi triumphantly yelled out, making him blink in confusion at her outburst. She did not really care that Goku had told her, her grandfather could be dangerous for her. That man might be blood-related to her, but after only eleven days knowing him, he simply was still a stranger. "Finally, you understand my way of thinking! I've told you numerous times I'm only safe when being with you."
Standing up again and leaving him quite startled, she started to collect her few things she had gathered in his room ever since. Not that both had many possessions anyway. Goku was much too surprised by her behavior, he had no idea what to say to her as he observed her happily packing already. He had presumed she would be delighted to leave with him, but he had no idea she would be that glad and eager. Not, considering the fact, that her family is yet involved in serious matters again.
"So, when are we ready to go? Please tell me, we can leave as soon as possible!"
"Uh…well. I thought we might discuss it first with your family tomorrow and then leave afterwards. We still need your grandfather's permission, in a way."
"Nonsense! I'm old enough to decide for myself. And you've said he's involved in your mission. We don't need anything from him. Either way he understands, or he doesn't. I don't care which might ever be the case."
Goku sighed as he had the feeling Chichi did not understand the importance of it all. This Mr. Cell was suspicious and dangerous, maybe just as much as Vegeta had been. "Chi, this is not going to be a fun trip, do you understand? Once we leave, we're going to hide in a place nobody should know about. This means you're going to live just as you did before with me – meaning, no other social contacts. And we don't know for how long that will be. It even might take years! In fact, it took me four, almost five to capture Vegeta!"
"As long as I'm with you I don't care about the duration. And I don't need others." She stated, not really caring about his warning. Goku inwardly growled as he stood up and grabbed her shoulders firmly.
"Chi, listen! Please understand that this is serious! If necessary, I'm going to lock you up wherever we're going to be, so you can't do anything foolish! And I know you tend to be impulsive, when you want to."
"When have I ever…?"
"Chi."
"Okay…" she admitted defeat and pecked his lips quickly. "I promise to listen to you, for as long as this mission might take. I will not do anything you wouldn't want. Satisfied now?"
"Why do I have the feeling you're not really willing to understand the danger?"
"Because the only dangerous person to me is gone, right?" She smiled innocently at him and Goku regretted instantly not having her told the truth from the start. He knew she was playing tough for his and her sake, but maybe he had been wrong and telling her would have been better all along. She was not as frail as she sometimes seemed to be. Maybe.
Seeing him slightly pale alarmed her greatly. "Why are you looking at me like that? Goku?" A horrible idea suddenly hit her, and her jaw dropped. "He is gone, isn't he?" As her beloved continued to stay silent, she urged him on to tell her more. "Goku? What are you keeping from me?"
"Chi, I'm sorry, but…"
"Oh, for Christ's sake!" Chichi slapped his chest but could not push him away as he had started to bury his fingertips into her arms, not uncomfortably, but she could feel the strength behind the gesture. "Don't tell me Vegeta's still alive and out there?!"
"He's alive but not free. If that is what you mean."
Feeling her temper explode, she wiggled herself free and instantly paced the room, agitated. Thinking about that man brought back all the unpleasant feelings she had tried to lock up somewhere. Somewhere, where she wanted those feelings to stay, if possible, forever. "Why is he still alive? I thought he would get a death penalty after all he has done! Why would anybody let such a person live? He's not only dangerous for me but for others and Bulma as well! Oh, Bulma!" she stopped her movements and looked at Goku wide eyed. "I don't even know where she is or if she's alive at all! I never had the chance to talk to her afterwards! And who's going to protect her from him?"
"That woman knows how to protect herself. Don't concern yourself with her. And Krillin told me she would not be in danger, not even through her pregnancy – "
"Pregnancy?!" Chichi shrieked. "She's pregnant?! And you just blurt that out like it's nothing? Are you kidding me?!"
Fuck. That information slipped. Goku regretted his loose tongue immediately. He rubbed his forehead in regret and looked at Chichi apologetically. If possible, her gaze got even more reproachful. "Why did you not tell me? Why keeping this a secret from me, when you know I hate it, when you keep things from me?!"
"I didn't want to agitate you."
"Well, I can't say you did a good job!"
"I know, and I'm really sorry! But I thought it was what's best for you, for now."
She clicked her tongue disapprovingly, but she seemed to calm down already. "I knew you were hiding something important from me. I swear, if you had not told me yourself, I would have squeezed the information out of you sooner or later."
Goku couldn't help but grin. She was cute when she challenged him. "I know you would have tried."
"Tried?" Was he teasing her now?" What makes you believe I wouldn't have been successful?"
Reaching out his hand for her to grab it, he pulled her close again as soon as she complied with his request. With one strong arm around her waist, he kissed her lovingly once and surprised her with that. "Because I would have distracted you long enough until you would forget your intention."
"Is that so? And how, Mr. Son, would you have distracted me?"
"I do have one or two tricks up my sleeve." Goku said as he nibbled the side of her face and wandered down her neck slowly, only to kiss her exposed clavicle and lick her sensitive flesh.
"You do?" she breathed; her anger gone instantly. Well, how could she stay furious when he was showering her with such affection?
"I'm very much trying them out now." He spoke against her skin and Chichi's eyes closed automatically, and she soon forgot what they were arguing about at all. She had to admit, his tricks might work on her. She happily offered him what he sought and sighed as he wandered up her chin with butterfly kisses again only to fully land on her mouth.
He smirked when she looked at him rather dreamy once he stopped assaulting her lips with his, minutes later.
"Now then, Miss Ox. What is it you wanted to discuss with me?"
"Discuss? The only discussion we need to have, is the one you just interrupted with your question." She tried to kiss him again, but to no avail. What a stubborn male!
Sighing she gave in and leaned her head against his shoulder. "Just promise to not keep any secrets from me from now on anymore, okay? Tell me what's happening, when it's happening. Don't leave me in the dark. When it's just the two of us, we need to support and talk to each other."
"Alright." Placing another kiss on the crown of her head he let her finally go and went over to the bathroom. "I'm just going to shower really quick. Pack the things you need to take with you. We're enlightening Mr. Sato tomorrow morning with our plans and leave as soon as we can."
When Chichi heard the words "tomorrow" and "as soon as we can" she radiantly smiled at him again and nodded eagerly. Forgotten the fact that Vegeta was still alive and that another danger might just be around the corner. But as long as she was allowed to stay beside the man she loved, she didn't care. And if the world would crumble tomorrow, she did not allow herself to feel frightened!
"Absolutely not." Bulma shook her head as her father presented her another one of his inventions.
For cats.
How many of these had he already showed her in the last couple of weeks? She couldn't tell, it was too many.
"But why not? It's absolutely lovely to see kittens play with it!"
"Because we need to overthink our product range! There are so many potential clients out there, and not everybody has pets or likes animals at all! We're better than that!" She threw the little plush mouse into the next corner. When it landed on the floor it squeaked sadly in the distance. As if to cry with it, the little black cat on her father's shoulder meowed. Bulma sighed distressed and rubbed the little bump on her stomach area.
"What do you suggest we should do?" Her father tried to compromise, seeing his daughter was trying her best to help him.
"First of all, we need to come up with a plan to get into businesses that can pay a large amount of sum for our inventions, which need to be so unique that only we are able to get the patent for it! Such as gravity chambers for space research training or portable e-bikes or climate friendly combustion engines or what god knows! Honestly dad, what did you do while I was gone? We had so many plans in mind before my marriage…what happened to them?"
"You were gone, and I did not want to use your ideas without you knowing it."
"Your father was ashamed he had to give you away, dear." Bulma's mother suddenly popped up from behind and greeted her with the always gentle smile she wore. Her blond hair was as perfectly styled as ever and Bulma wondered where her hair color actually came from as her father was as white as snow and her mother looked like a blond American beauty. "He was not sure if he was allowed to have success with your ideas while you were away because of him."
"Oh, dad. I wasn't gone because of you, but for you. The purpose was for you to use whatever you needed to gain more success."
"Well, all is forgotten now!" her mother clapped her hands in delight. "Our daughter is back and trying to help you get back on track! Although, dear, I'm terribly sorry to hear what had happened to your husband! If we had known he was involved in criminal acts and on the verge of getting bankrupt, we certainly wouldn't have let you agree to his proposal!"
Luckily her parents had no idea what kind of crimes he had done, Bulma thought to herself as she tried to smile at her mother. Both had not asked anything ever since she came back home. And she was glad for that.
"Anyway, darling, the reason why I've searched for you is because there's a young man looking for you. He said you know him. His name's Yamcha."
Entering the unique round house for the first time in his life, Yamcha questioned himself what he actually wanted to say to Bulma at all. It was true, he just wanted to see her again, make sure she was alright. But he could have done that by simply observing her like a quiet protector from afar. But somehow, he wanted to make sure she was fine by her telling him she was fine. But when she suddenly stood before him with a surprised look on her face he regretted having come.
"Yamcha? What are you doing here?" she reached him with wide steps and glanced right and left out of habit. "Are you even allowed to visit? You know, Mr. Sato is not very fond of me."
"He doesn't know I'm here. Krillin wanted to know how you're doing. Well…I wanted to know as well. Don't misunderstand."
"Hm…" she nodded, not really understanding why Mr. Sato's right-hand man wanted to know but she tolerated his curiosity. For now. She had not done anything against the contract she had signed. What else could they want from her? "Would you like to come in?" she turned to the side, offering him the large hallway but Yamcha only shook his head.
"Don't bother, I just came to talk briefly. Are you alright?"
"I'm as fine as I can be."
"And your…." He pointed towards her growing belly, too afraid to actually say the words.
"Healthy as far as I know. The doctor did not say otherwise." On cue, she caressed her little bump again, like she often did these days.
"Good to hear." Yamcha nodded. An uncomfortable silence between them followed soon after. Bulma decided to take matters into her hands. "How's Chichi?"
"Oh, she's currently gone, accompanying her…boyfriend. It sounds strange to refer to Goku as such…" he mumbled the second sentence more to himself.
"Mr. Sato allowed her to leave?"
"Goku had some…effective arguments, so to say. But as far as I know they're both doing fine."
"Where did they go to?"
"We don't know. Goku wanted to keep it a secret. Not even Mr. Sato knows where they are."
Bulma found it strange but did not want to think or interpret too much into Chichi's doings. She was old enough to know what she was doing. And Yamcha didn't look as if he was willing to share his information with her, even if he knew more.
"How's Vegeta?" that question left her mouth before she could even think about it. Yamcha's posture stiffened immediately.
"Unfortunately, he's still breathing, if you want to know that."
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't even be thinking about him. Not even unconsciously." Bulma looked to the ground, ashamed that she couldn't stop herself from thinking of the man who had turned her life into a living hell. But sometimes she wondered, as not all has been bad, if she genuinely felt sorry for him? Was there some affection lingering for him in the back of her mind?
Was it because she knew he was the father of her child?
She remembered Mr. Sato's words and bit her lip in regret. Maybe that old fox had been right. But she was too proud to give in and admit it. So no, there was no affection for Vegeta. Nothing at all…
"Buls?" Yamcha brought her back to the present.
"Sorry, what did you say?"
"If you don't mind, I would like to visit you more often. Assist you in your pregnancy if you need help and check on you from time to time, if you allow me."
"Is that another order from your boss?"
"No! No. I just want to help you, as an old childhood friend." He grinned at her like he used to and Bulma had to believe his sincere words. She agreed by nodding and soon after they bid their farewell, promising each other to contact each other if they needed to.
Chichi watched the stony rode in front of them with suspicion while Goku tried to read the map he had brought. The sun was still shining and warming her face although the air was cold and told them winter was just around the corner. The car they had gotten from her grandfather – he had insisted – was filled with boxes full of clothes and other things. Another thing her grandfather requested; he wanted them to have anything they needed, wherever they went and wherever that place was.
Well, Chichi had no idea where Goku wanted to take her. But seeing him struggle with the map and his orientation she wondered if he even knew it himself. They currently made a stop and while she tried to enjoy the fresh air – in the middle of nowhere – Goku seemed rather lost.
A new sight to her. She was used to see him knowing what he was doing. But the more she got close to him, the more she realized he was more boyishly than she had originally thought. And although they had traveled for quite a while, they had not come as far as she had believed. They still were near the city and she still could see the highest skyscrapers from where they were standing right now. Even through the trees she could see the cement giants.
Of course, the highest building was the one of her kinship. She sighed. "Goku, where exactly do you want to go? I know that you want to get us to a safe place but…isn't the middle of a forest a bit too extreme? How am I supposed to shop ingredients for us? As you know, I do not have a drivers license and I hope you're not locking me up for real, just like last time."
Goku answered her without looking up from the map. "Actually, I'm searching the way to my hometown in the mountains. I grew up with my grandfather in a rather small house until he died. I left that place when I was twelve. I forgot which way it was. It might take me a while to remember."
"The mountains?" Chichi couldn't help herself but think that this sounded very romantic. Imagining that they just had them both in the wilderness…what else could they do if not ravish each other frequently?
She grinned cheekily. Ah, her juvenile mind was giving her pleasant ideas, indeed. She already forgot why they were hiding in the first place.
"I know it's not sounding very promising, but that is the only place where nobody is able to follow us. And it's near enough to the city to give me the possibility to investigate without any problems."
She laughed delightedly. For one because he thought she was displeased and for the other because he was unable to find the way himself. How should anybody find them where they weren't in the first place? As he looked at her outburst confusedly, she explained "How can anybody follow this path? Not even you do find it!"
"Well, but I'm trying to remember!"
"And you're doing absolutely wonderful!" she teased him as she leaned her chin over his arm and encircled his torso from behind. He simply sighed – a sound she was used to by now – and concentrated on the map again.
"You do know that you're reading it upside down, do you?" Chichi suddenly question him as she realized that the names of the written towns could not be read properly.
"I've just turned the map, hoping to find the road I am looking for!" Goku explained with a slight blush covering his cheeks. Chichi giggled at that sight and she found she had not felt this good in a while. In fact, she felt better than ever!
What possibly could be so dangerous for her that Goku had to drag her to the mountains?
She could not imagine anything hurting her ever again!
"Found it!" Goku exclaimed happily and pointed with his index finger triumphantly at a certain spot on the map. Leaning down to peck her lips lightly he hushed her to get back in the car what made her giggle all the more.
Really, with Goku by her side and feeling this alive…who could be powerful enough to destroy that?
Mr. Cell was quite pleased with how things turned out. His plan to basically swallow any existing business in a short amount of time was progressing well. Being as he was, knowing how to pressure others brutally without another care in the world came in handy as a businessman. He didn't really care about the companies afterwards. He just needed their success once, robbed them from their money and once they were bankrupt, he could easily get out of it all as the richest man, as he simply was an investor.
The help he got from Mr. Sato was equally beneficial as his talent to not have any feelings at all. It was quite unfortunate that his next target, the Sai Corp. went down the path to hell before he could gain anything from it. Although Mr. Sato had promised him to make a successful deal, he had failed in his attempt. The Sais' were nothing now, and Mr. Sato was partially responsible for it, if not totally.
Mr. Cell wasn't sure how to punish him for this. It was clear why he was maintaining a good relationship with him, as he wanted to have his imperium under his nails as well. But that had to wait for now, other companies were there to get swallowed by him first.
Such as Capsule Corp. Not the biggest, but the most promising company at the moment. Wasn't it that the daughter of the family had just returned? Isn't it interesting to know, that just upon her return business started to flow again? Their sales output almost doubled in just two weeks, compared to the quarter before.
Mr. Cell knew, he had to get to know her. Maybe he could use her for his benefit? He rubbed his sharp chin with his long index finger. Yeah, it was time to introduce himself to the Briefs' family.
A/N: Well, so here we are! Some blissful moments for our characters. But not much… *evil grin*
I know, this chapter was not that informative, but I do enjoy working on our two main characters and their interactions with each other. I like the teasing. Honestly. I can't help myself but give Chichi a new kind of characteristic, although her past was quite harsh. I'm giving her the positiveness many people should have in life, although I'm aware that this kind of development in real life is rather unrealistic.
Don't think I'm not giving her any mental problems. She's more like in a 'don't even think about it' – state.
Well, more to find out in the next chapter!
