Chapter One

Lucy woke with a shock. It was just another nightmare, she tried to tell herself, of a memory she shouldn't remember. But she had been told the story of that horrific night from years and years ago so many times it still burned inside of her. It would soon become worse, her letter was soon to come. She would have to face those of her own kind, perhaps even the one that always haunted her past. It sent a shiver up her spine to even think of it. She had spent her whole life hiding, now she was out in the open.

Blythe spent most all of her spare time waiting, just waiting, for her own letter to come, misery and impatience filling her like a bottle. She dreaded to think of the idea that maybe it wouldn't come at all. But she was a half-blood, after all, and Cedric had gotten his a good three years ago, so it only made sense that her's would come soon enough. "All in good time," she told herself, "all in good time."

Like both girls had expected, one dreading it, one ecstatic for its arrival, the letters came within a matter of days. Lucy read her's alone in her bed as soon as her owl, Reggie, had brought it to her. Blythe on the other hand, was just eating breakfast with her family when it came in the mail. Both letters said the same thing - the girls were accepted into Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. They would attend the school in just a few days, beginning their first of seven years. Blythe immediately started packing after giving both her mother and father an early kiss goodbye, but Lucy still lay alone in her bed, staring at the letter in awe.
