[Unsacred Hellgate]
A never-ending consuming orb resembling an eye casted a dim light in the black sky.
*slice*
Stone structures, once displayed magnificent images now broken-down and weakened by age.
*clang*
From the end an infinite stream of shallow water running at speeds capable of dragging the weak into the dark void below. Distant cries of the unfortunate can be heard if one were to take a moment and listen.
*slice*
This is only a tiny glimpse into a strange and terrifying realm of darkness. Here physical and natural laws are twisted and contorted beyond the realm of possibility. Gravity works in unnatural ways, environments rearrange at their own will, even something mundane as a painting can serve as a passageway into this hellish landscape.
*cling*
What is this place you may ask? It is one that existed for so long that some have forgotten the fact that it's real. However, they're quickly reminded of it's existence by the inhabitants born from within. They come in a variety of forms; some wield weapons, others their intellect or brawn, most are categorized as mere underlings for their kind, and a few with the strength to assert themselves above the rest. For as long as this world existed these creatures slaughtered many in their wake, their undying hunger for power only quenched by the souls and blood of humans.
*clang*
Demons, they go by many names but this one is what most people have come to call them. With their kind now having a name, so does this place.
"ROYALGUARD!"
The Demon Realm is believed to be where humans are sent for heinous acts they've committed throughout their lives. Their tortured both physically and mentally to the point where they either become another lost soul bound to suffer an eternity of torment until their spirit withers away or manifest into a demon thus repeating the cycle of torment and pain.
"I'LL CUT YOU DOWN!"
This isn't the ideal place any human would prefer to be in. This hellish nightmare would scar any person that witnesses the horrors hiding in the shadows. So why are these two guys in their late teens not bothered by where they are?
"TRICKED YA!"
To put it simply, they are not your average humans.
"Gaaah!" yelped one of the young men. His body was knelt down and seemed to be having a tough time catching his breath.
20 feet away from him was the other teen giving him a disapproving glare with his blue eyes. His unkempt hair was white as snow giving him a rebellious appearance. He wore a red two-tailed coat, it had zippers but he never cared to use them only ever using the strap around his waist to keep it clung to his body.
He wore nothing underneath revealing his well-toned body to the world. His gloves and boots were black as he slowly walked to the side, the bottoms of his brown cargo pants getting wet from the stream.
In one of his hands was a massive claymore sword with a skeletal guard, the blade was double-edged and near the tip both sides were notched. The sword may appear ordinary as any other blade but to the ones that have the knowledge of the demon world would recognize it as Rebellion. A blade that is said to have the ability to unite man with devil, wielded by Dante the Devil Hunter.
"Am I... being defeated?" spoke the downed man, he stared into his reflection of the water. He shared the same eyes as Dante, however his appearance greatly contrasted with the other.
His white hair was swept back, giving it a spiky appearance. A blue coat consisting of white intricate patterns along with three separate coattails covered his body as well as his dark pants. A navy blue ascot traveled around his neck with his torso covered by a black, sleeveless vest. His hands covered by brown, fingerless gloves and boots of the same color kept his body from touching the water.
Gripped in one of his fists was a broad sword. It didn't look like much but with the key it can transform into a weapon of immense power, but for now it goes by the name of Force Edge.
On the man's hip was another blade, a katana to be exact resting inside an onyx black sheath with a golden-yellow sageo. The guard had golden patterns and designs engraved within, the handle was in traditional wrapping. The katana's called Yamato and is considered among the sharpest around capable of cutting through anything as well as having the power to separate man from devil.
Both weapons are being used by Vergil the Darkslayer and is the older twin brother of Dante. Not only were they related but are the sons of the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda, a powerful demon that turned on his own in order to protect humans and sealed his power away into three pieces. Said pieces currently in the hands of Dante and Vergil.
'All that talk about power and this is what you show me huh.' Dante thought. He shifted his gaze onto the environment they were in.
The dark sky, the gloomy light, the cold tone this place gives off.
Man oh man.
Is this overkill.
'Feels like I'm tasting sadness with every breath. Dad must've been one hell of an edge lord before he switched sides.' Smiling at the funny thought Dante's mind shifted elsewhere.
This night has been a ride for the red-clad devil hunter. From starting out the evening with having his newly purchased building in shambles to meeting a sexy babe with a rocket launcher that threatened to kill him many times over to fighting a really, really, REALLY annoying clown, it was wild. At least his dear old brother was someone he could always expect to stay the same. Cold, ruthless, and sarcastic; yup that's good ol' classic Vergil for ya.
The older brother may not have changed in terms of his demeanor but for his strength, he's on a completely different level from a year ago. Dante found out the hard way.
First, Vergil decided to show it by jamming Rebellion through his chest on top of Temen-Ni-Gru. Next, he got cocky in the chamber where he and Dante kept making each other bleed. Finally, here they are in the place that connects the human world to the demon world with Vergil on the ground tired and panting, a position he rarely finds himself in.
Dante's got give props to Vergil though, without him the Devil Hunter might've never met the demons living in this tower. Cerberus, angry little pooch who likes to play fetch with you as the toy. Agni and Rudra, demon twins who can never shut up. Nevan, *whistle* she can definitely pull a devil's trigger. Beowulf ah, classic demon that has bad blood with Dante's father and wanting to take revenge on his son.
Oh and you can't kill demons without being stylish. In fact there was Geryon that loves to run over you with his time stop ability if you didn't give him his sugar cube. Doppelganger, man what a complete loser trying to copy style just because he doesn't have his own. With them defeated Dante now has more ways on how one can battle in style.
But man were they fun to hang around with.
*cough*
*cough*
'Hmm? Oh yea.' The devil hunter momentarily forgot about the fight he was in. He faced his brother again with a smirk.
"What's wrong? Is that all you got? Come on get up. You can do better than that." Dante lightly taunted.
Clenching his teeth harshly at his brother's words of mockery Vergil forced himself up. Just then everything started to shake with the twins almost losing their footing.
"The portal to the human world is closing Dante because the amulets have been separated." Vergil says.
"Let's finish this Vergil. I have to stop you even if it means killing you." Dante responds but deep down he truly didn't want to. Sure Vergil destroyed and took the lives of countless people but he was still his brother and the only family he has left.
'Gladly.' the darkslayer thought as he swings Force Edge to his side and took off in a sprint.
Dante does the same with Rebellion, 'Mom please forgive me.'
With every step water erupted, the wind blowing through their face felt cold, the quakes slowly became more violent. The brothers glared at each other mirroring the other's expression of determination.
One abandoned their humanity while the other embraced it.
One saw the good in others and the other regarded it as a weakness.
One wants to achieve their goal at the cost of the innocent with the other wanting to prevent it.
In the end one will fall.
*slice*
Time slowed down for the two as they came to a halt. Their swords were in a drawn out position while they waited for their twin to fall. The sounds of the current masked the gasp of one of them as they knelt down in pain.
Force Edge stabbed the ground as Vergil gripped his stomach in pain, his body was temporarily split in half with his cells working rapidly to heal themselves. His face showed that of frustration and anger, upset that he was bested by Dante, a person who doesn't care for being the strongest. He closed his eyes and lowered his head disappointed at the outcome.
The ground was shaking more violently than ever, while the darkslayer didn't take notice the devil hunter certainly did.
Putting away Rebellion Dante steadied himself before looking at his surroundings. Portals of all shapes and sizes appeared before him. In one there was a man wearing a white mask with black blobs swishing throughout the center while talking to a naked blue guy. In another there are four anthropomorphic green turtles chowing down on pizza. To his left was what he could assume was a police man shooting down a horde of...walking corpses of humans. Dante would've been amused to say the least if it weren't for the fact that too many were opening at once.
'These don't look like the usual portals I'm used to. It sure as hell ain't demonic since nothing's coming out to eat me.'
Back with Vergil he failed to notice a certain piece of jewelry falling from his neck and into the water. The weight of his neck felt lighter and the darkslayer finally opens his eyes to see his amulet being taken away towards a portal.
It fell in, his eyes widened and his heart skipped a beat.
With what little strength he had left Vergil grabbed Force Edge with Yamato at his hip and leaped into the portal uncaring of where it will take him.
"My mother gave that to me. It belongs to me, I CAN'T LOSE IT!" Vergil declares as reality distorts itself and soon finds himself swimming through a rainbow of light.
Confused at what he's hearing Dante turned around and his face turned fearful. His older brother wasn't near him but instead seen disappearing inside one of the portals. He doesn't know the capabilities of these portals but Dante's sure there's a big chance Vergil might be taken to a place that he can never come back from.
Without a second thought Dante took off after him however the image within the portal distorts and changes. He notices it and tries to stop his sprint but his momentum combined with the stream and the quaking causes him to slip into it anyway.
"SHIT!" was all he could say as the last of Sparda's lineage exits this realm and into another.
Dante is now in a state where he rarely himself in, worrying. Here he was being taken through a rainbow of light not sure if the change of images was just for show. He tried to stop himself from going any further to no avail, looks like he'll have to sit back for the ride.
He doesn't see his brother, he doesn't feel his aura anywhere but he knows he's getting to close to him or at least the same place. Must be the brotherly bond he will never openly acknowledge.
Dante didn't ponder on this thought for long as he saw something at the end of the tunnel. Looks like it's the exit.
"Who knew doing nothing can actually get you somewhere. Vergil you better be there."
As he got closer he looked to the sides and the light transformed into various images consisting of black-clad women with blind-folds, old abandoned buildings, and giant robots?
"Neat. Seems like this won't be a boring party after all." Dante finishes as he reached the end.
However, right as he reaches the end a wave of force went throughout his body knocking the air out his lungs.
"Gah." Gasps the devil hunter, this wasn't anything he felt before. He felt weak and tired, but he noticed that he was falling from the sky. The ground seemed to be coming close at a rapid rate and he couldn't do anything to stop it.
'This is gonna hurt.' Dante hit the ground head first and everything turned black.
[Resistance Camp]
"This is such an hassle." a tired male Resistance worker grunted.
"Just do it or else Anemone will get your ass again." a female Resistance worker said.
"Yeah yeah I know." the male worker grudged as he finished making the scouting point.
Machines have been spotted more frequently lately more specifically near the camp. Thus the leader of the camp, Anemone ordered to build more scouting points around the perimeter to keep the machines in check.
"Didn't expect whining from someone who offered to volunteer." the female worker reminded him.
"When I did I expected this to be a team effort but nooo you just been going to other places while I do all the work." the male said as female smirked.
"Hey you should know that us androids get bored too. Whenever we see opportunity to do something else we take it." the female proudly declared as she raised her arm and clenched her hand. The male just ignored her as he got down from the post and onto solid ground.
"I could use some better tools. This would've gone by much faster." the male worker complained.
"DO WE LOOK LIKE YORHA?" the female yelled angrily.
"No, but this wouldn't have happened if you didn't go out looking at birds." the male accused.
"It's not my fault they look cute and fluffy. HAVE YOU SEEN THEM UP CLOSE? Their so adorable." the female cooed.
"And it's cause of that the machines took the majority of our tools and supplies." the male exclaimed as he pointed over to the 2 feet tall pile of metal they had. "You are so lucky that nobody can hear us from where we are or else Anemone would take care of you permanently."
"Oh yea wel-" the female got interrupted as she saw something in the sky. The male raised a brow before snapping his fingers up to her face with no response.
"What? What are y-" the male questioned before he turned around to see what made her stop.
Up in the sky far away from the camp was something, something that gave off a blue light and was circular. Grabbing the binoculars she had for bird watching the female worker got a closer glimpse of the anomaly in the sky.
"What the hell?" she questioned.
"What do you think it is?" the male replied back.
"Might be some...type...of...transporter I dunno." the female grunted.
"Lemme see." the male said as she passed him the binoculars.
"..."
"Well?" the female asked waiting for an answer.
Just then both witnessed something appeared out of the anomaly. Due to how fast it was falling the male couldn't directly confirm what it was, only a color of red. However, it made a large crash miles away resulting in a small dust cloud rising in the distance.
The pair were silent for a few moments before the male gave the binoculars back to her.
"We need to report this to Anemone now." the male concluded as he walked off to camp.
"What why?" the female questioned while following suit.
"It might be something dangerous or something useful. Better check it out before the machines get to it first." the male stated.
