"People aren't born equal."

Despite the large number of people insisting that every person in the world is equal to one another, they could never deny the fact that not everyone was born the same way. Some were born rich, while some were born poor. There are people who are healthy, and there are those who are not. It was part of human nature for people to find ways in order to prove their superiority over others.

In this world, however, it was a different case.

Eighty percent of the world's population were born with quirks or superpowers, and they were the ones who enjoyed the life of a normal person nowadays. With their quirks, they are able to make their lives easier and even shape their own future when it comes to choosing their professions!

Having a quirk was a one-way ticket to a successful life, most especially for those who choose the hero profession as a career path. It was the most popular job nowadays as well as the most difficult, but it was also the most rewarding. All a person needed to do in order to be a hero was to have a quirk, enroll in a hero school, acquire a professional license then graduate.

It's almost a walk in the park for those with quirks, especially those with flashy and powerful ones. They were the ones who catch the most attention when it comes to the media.

But what about the remaining twenty percent?

Unfortunately, that was the life of one Izuku Midoriya, a boy who was one of those people who were born without any quirk.

"Mom's gonna freak out when she sees me like this…"

The boy was in terrible shape at the moment; his uniform was slightly ruined, there were various burn marks on his face, and traces of soot can be found all over his arms. It looked like he had just went through a fight, with him taking the full brunt of it.

Being quirkless also meant that nearly everyone he comes across with treats him like an outcast of society, as if he was someone that didn't matter. People looked down on him like he had some sort of disability just by being a normal human, especially by someone who was once his childhood friend, Katsuki Bakugo.

A young boy of his age who had a powerful quirk, being able to secrete nitroglycerin from the sweat glands of his palms and then ignite it on command, allowing him to create powerful explosions. He was also very intelligent and had a sharp mind, standing at the top of his class and earning admiration from his peers and teachers alike.

He was someone whom Izuku looked up to for his determination and drive to win, but one cannot say that their relationship was a good one.

"Why did you have to be this way, Kacchan? You weren't like this years ago..."

Izuku let out a deep sigh before looking down on the ground, tears staining his eyes. After school had ended, which also happened to be their last day there, Katsuki cornered him in a nearby alley with his goons where he chewed out his childhood friend for continuing to strive for a dream that he would never achieve, before destroying one of Izuku's hero notebooks with an explosion.

Apparently, the angry blonde didn't appreciate the fact that Izuku was aiming for U.A. High just like him because he believed that it was only for people of his caliber, and that it didn't need any quirkless losers attending it.

Fortunately, all Izuku received was a small explosion to the face that wasn't really powerful compared to the other times that Katsuki used his quirk against him. It still hurt having to take it point blank but what truly struck a nerve in him was the fact that his childhood friend told him to jump off a roof without hesitation, just so he could finally have a quirk.

"Telling someone to kill themselves, that's not what a hero would do."

Kacchan's words hurt a lot but truth be told, he was starting to get used to it because it didn't feel like his childhood friend was going to change anytime soon.

Despite this hindrance, there was nothing that Izuku wanted more than to be a hero. Maybe not the greatest, but a hero nonetheless. He wanted to be just like All Might, the greatest hero ever, constantly fighting against near-impossible odds and giving hope to people. The man's smile and sense of justice was a beacon of hope in his and other people's worlds, as if his mere presence is enough to tell someone that things will turn out well.

That's what Izuku wanted to be, a light in people's world. He wanted to save people with a smile on his face and tell them that everything will be okay as long he is around, even if society wasn't fair towards him.

Until he was told by his biggest hero to give up on his dreams.

"Even so… it's not like All Might had a different answer from Kacchan…"

After the little encounter with Kacchan and his minions, Izuku was ambushed by a sludge villain at the underpass on his way home where he almost though he was going to die, only to be saved by All Might himself. Naturally, his fanboy nature came up after the hero made quick work of the villain and asked for an autograph afterwards.

Their interaction was about to end after All Might signed his ruined notebook, only for the boy to hang on to him after he took off into the skies. This forced the hero to land on the rooftop of a building out of concern for the boy, which backfired completely.

It was there that Izuku learned about his true condition, that he could only fight crime for only three hours a day now, and that he wasn't the same anymore after a fight with a villain five years ago.

Learning these things about his idol shocked the boy to his core, but he still needed to ask All Might the question that has been bothering him for years. When the hero was about to leave after making Izuku promise that he won't tell anyone about what he saw, the young boy asked him:

"All Might… is it possible for someone quirkless like me to be a hero?"

The tall blonde man stopped in his tracks upon hearing that question, thinking deeply about what the boy asked him. Izuku patiently waited for All Might to answer and luckily for him, it didn't take the number one hero to give him a response.

His answer wasn't what Izuku wanted, although it could be said that he expected it somehow.

All Might, the very same person whom he looked up to and admired, told him that a quirkless boy like him could never be a hero because it was too dangerous.

It was one thing to be picked on by Kacchan and told every day that he was a 'Deku' and that a quirkless nerd like him could never be a hero. As much as that ate away his self-esteem and confidence, Izuku always took it in stride and focused solely on his dream instead.

But to hear the same thing from the number one hero, even if he was a lot gentler about it, was soul-crushing.

"What was I thinking? I knew that I'd have no chance at being a hero when I learned that I was quirkless, but I kept on telling myself that I still had hope… and now, that hope is gone."

Izuku had never felt more defeated in his entire life.

The two people whom he looked up to as prime examples of what a hero is supposed to be, have told him that he would be better off doing something else instead of following his dreams. While Kacchan said that it was because of his quirkless state, All Might believed that it would be too dangerous for someone like him to be doing hero stuff.

Either way, their answers only served to chip away at Izuku's self-esteem even more. He was already doubting himself ever since he learned he was quirkless, and now the boy felt like there was no hope for him anymore.

Little did he know that this wasn't the end of his story, but rather the beginning.

While Izuku was walking through the street with his head down, the boy suddenly felt a strange presence in front of him, causing him to stop in his tracks.

While keeping his head low, Izuku felt that this new presence, which was obviously from a person, had something to do with him, which got him confused. He couldn't explain it well, but it's like he was supposed to see who it is and not otherwise.

Was it Kacchan who came back to teach him a lesson again? Unlikely, he's not someone who wastes his time doing the same thing over and over. It can't be All Might, because he was still out dealing with criminals and fighting crime. There's no way he'll make time for a quirkless person like him…

Nevertheless, the lone presence of this stranger was something that bothered him completely, forcing Izuku to finally look up in order to see who it was.

Standing before him was a man with slicked-back white hair and piercing blue eyes, wearing a black coat, a blue sleeveless vest underneath, black pants and boots, as well as finger-less gloves.

However, the most eye-catching detail about him was that his left hand was holding a katana by its scabbard. From the expression on the man's face, he could kill anyone on sight with that sword of his.

"W-Who are you…?" he asked, his voice being tinged with fear as he had never seen this person before, yet he gave off the vibe of a villain due to his appearance alone.

Izuku immediately felt intimidated just by looking at the man, as if he was someone who should not be crossed under any circumstance. He couldn't stop himself from taking several steps back when the man glared at him with those cold eyes of his, which was honestly the right thing to do in this situation.

However, the boy was too focused on moving away from the stranger before him that he didn't see a rock behind him, causing him to trip and fall on his butt.

"Argh…" the boy let out a soft groan before picking himself off the ground, before turning his head back in the direction of the man whom he saw, only to find that nobody was there.

He raised an eyebrow at the man's disappearance and started looking around him to see if he was still nearby, but there was no one around him. The only one standing in the street right now was him.

Strange…

Was he only seeing things just now? Or… was the man in blue really there in front of him and he just left for some unknown reason?

"Who was that? And why did he somehow feel… familiar?"

Izuku couldn't explain it in a simple way but while he did feel intimidated because of that man, something about him also gave off a sense of familiarity to the boy, as if he knew him from somewhere. The question is, how and where?

As much as how much this issue intrigued him, Izuku pushed it into the back of his mind for now and simply continued on his way.

"I need to get home, it must be getting late."

Whatever this whole thing is about, he can just deal with it later.

The young boy decided that he would go to bed earlier than usual today, if only to get Kacchan and All Might's words out of his mind.

Upon arriving home, as expected, his mother hounded him for answers regarding his wounds and burn marks. To her credit, she immediately suspected Katsuki to be behind her son's current state but being the kind and forgiving individual that he was, Izuku didn't mention anything about Kacchan and simply explained how he tripped on the ground face-first while on his way home.

This boy was too kind for his own good.

Inko Midoriya didn't see any reason for her son to lie to her, so she believed his words and simply asked him to take a shower before dinner so that he wouldn't look horrible in front of the table.

After eating a quiet dinner with his mother, Izuku quickly brushed his teeth before heading to his room, intending to get an early sleep after transferring the contents of his old hero notebook (the one that Katsuki blew up) into a new one. Fortunately for him, the one that Kacchan ruined was fairly new and he didn't need to write much.

After an hour of writing, Izuku felt that it was enough and dumped himself on his bed before closing his eyes, fully intending to go to sleep and bury those depressing thoughts in his mind before he thinks of them again.

However, as the universe would have it, his mind started wandering back to the worst moments of his life, which now included the two encounters that he had today.

"It appears that your son is quirkless. I'm sorry, but he won't be able to be a hero."

Tears already started to form in his eyes upon remembering that moment. It was the day that his dream of being a hero got shattered after his doctor told him that he was quirkless. Surprisingly, for someone like him, he didn't burst into tears right away because the shock he got afterwards from hearing that revelation was too much.

However, what truly broke his heart that day was his mother's reaction to his quirkless state being revealed.

"I'm sorry, Izuku. I'm so sorry!"

Tears had begun flowing from the boys eyes as he remembered his mother say those words to him.

She was there for him from the beginning, supporting his dream, cheering him on and encouraging him as much as she could. After learning that her son was quirkless, she began blaming herself for his condition. Inko Midoriya felt that it was her fault that her son was like this, because he didn't inherit a quirk from either her or his father, or even combined the two.

Izuku never blamed her for him being quirkless, though. He knew that he was just unfortunate to not be one of the lucky ones.

But despite his doctor telling him that he can't be a hero, his mother bursting into tears, and the rest of society looking down on him, not once did Izuku give up on his dream. Even though he was fully aware that he was one of the people who had no unique ability, he still believed that somehow, he can be a hero who saves people.

And that was when another hindrance came, in the form of his childhood friend.

"Give it up, you shitty nerd! You're never gonna be a hero because you don't have a quirk! You're always going to be useless, Deku! If you want to have a quirk, then take a swan dive off a roof and pray you get one in your next life!"

Kacchan was once his dear friend and they had shared many laughs, smiles, and even tears together. Their parents were friends and their families were close, but it all changed when Katsuki acquired his quirk, which led to him developing a superiority complex that saw the boy looking down on everyone around him, especially Izuku.

While he knew to himself that Katsuki truly wanted to be a hero who is on par with All Might, there were times where he wished that his childhood friend would stop bothering him. There were times where he wanted to put his foot down and stop Katsuki from bullying him again.

Most of all, there were times where he wanted to just shout at his friend and tell him how tired he was of taking every explosion he dished out like a punching bag.

But he also knew that he couldn't do such a thing, because he was frail and weak.

And then… there was All Might, the final nail in the coffin.

"I'm sorry kid, but without a quirk you can't be a hero. We risk our lives every day fighting villains, taking care of criminals, and saving civilians. Those aren't things that can be solved by someone quirkless. Why don't you try being a fireman or an officer instead? Sure, it's not the most glamorous job these days, but it's still a noble profession."

All Might was the hero whom he looked up to above everyone else. He was the epitome of what a hero should be; strong, charismatic, has a strong sense of justice, and a big heart. Izuku even made it a daily habit to watch his debut video to the point that his mom pointed that he may have added several thousand views to it alone!

There was nothing that he wanted more than to be like his favorite hero and join him in fighting crime as fellow heroes. He wanted to be just like All Might who saves people with a smile on his face, and he swore to himself back then that he would make that dream a reality no matter what.

Izuku firmly believed that he could still be a hero despite being quirkless, which was why he sent an application to U.A. to register for their entrance exam.

But now that All Might crushed his dream completely, along with Katsuki's constant bullying and harsh words, the boy didn't feel like there was even any use for him applying for a hero school. Going to that entrance exam would only be a waste of time now, and it would only embarrass him even further.

Why should he still continue, anyway? He had no quirk, he had no confidence in himself, everyone looked down on him, his favorite hero told him to purse another profession, and he was no different than a normal civilian who should leave things to those who are stronger than him.

"So that's it, then… I'm never going to be a hero…"

Izuku made no move to wipe the tears off his face as he finally descended into the depths of his mind, sleep taking over his body.

"You will awaken."

A deep and cold voice rang in his ears as if someone had shouted them, causing Izuku to quickly snap his eyes open and sit up in response. Taking quick and fast breaths, he did a quick scan of his surroundings just to be safe but there was nothing around him.

The boy had no idea how long he had been asleep but he could already tell that he was still dreaming because this place didn't look anything like his room. He wasn't even sitting on his bed and there was nothing around him.

Now that he had a grasp on what was happening, Izuku switched from fast, ragged breaths to slow, long ones in order to calm himself.

"I've been waiting for you."

Izuku's eyes widened when he heard the same cold voice from behind him, which quickly prompted him to turn around and see where it came from.

But he wasn't prepared for what he was about to see.

His eyes widened when he was met with the sight of the man whom he saw hours ago; the same coat, pants, boots, gloves, the piercing blue eyes, and the slicked back hair. He even held the very same katana that caught Izuku's eye before, so there was no doubt about it.

"Y-Y-You're the man I s-saw earlier…!" he stuttered, having some difficulty with finding the right words to say because he wasn't expecting to see the man in blue in his own dream, of all places.

The man nodded.

"Indeed I am. Now get on your feet, boy."

The serious edge in his tone easily meant that he wasn't here to play games, and it quickly got Izuku to stand up before the man before him could get mad. To add to that, he had a gut feeling that it's not a good idea to make the man in blue angry.

Once he was up on his feet, Izuku took a closer look at the white-haired man before him, and an important question immediately popped up in his mind.

This was indeed the same person whom he had a brief encounter with on the way home, but why was he here? Was he somehow making this all up in his head? Did he subconsciously thought about the man in blue while sleeping? Or was this just a coincidence?

This situation was so confusing and Izuku needed an answer, quick!

"H-How… why are you here? I-I-I'm still dreaming, aren't I?" he stuttered.

"My name is Vergil, and I am your ancestor."

The man named Vergil said in a cold tone that showed how serious he was, and that he didn't care that the boy was scared of him at the moment.

"My… ancestor…?" Izuku breathed, his fear turning into shock.

As soon as he said those words, dozens of questions began to flood Izuku's mind, especially in regards to his apparent relationship with this man.

How can this man be related to him? They didn't even look similar and if someone were to see them together, that person would only assume that they were strangers or acquaintances! Compared to Vergil's cold look and demeanor, he was nothing but a nervous wreck who had no confidence in himself.

Still, was this the reason why he somehow felt familiar to him when they met hours ago? Did he subconsciously know that they were somehow related?

Sensing the boy's confusion towards what he just revealed, Vergil continued in his words.

"I have roamed these lands some millennia ago before the age of quirks even began. As human nature would have it, I have long passed but my bloodline didn't end with myself, it continued on until now. You may have difficulty believing my words, but it doesn't change anything. You are my descendant, Izuku Midoriya."

So Vergil lived a long time ago, way before quirks even became a thing. Izuku could understand that, but it still boggled his mind that they were somewhat related.

First of all, they hair wasn't similar. The boy didn't even think that he had any white-haired family members from either his mother's or father's side. Second, they looked completely different from each other. Not just the face, but also the body structure. Third, they had no similar traits whatsoever! While he was a nervous wreck who couldn't stand being in a conversation without stuttering or messing up his words, Vergil didn't seem to be anything like that and his voice was intimidating.

"I-I still don't understand… how are you my ancestor, Vergil-san? I-I've never heard my mom m-mention any 'Vergil' in our family."

"That's because I existed thousands of years ago, boy. It is only natural for humans to forget their roots until they see it," Vergil explained, a frown appearing on his face for a quick moment before calming down."

"I-I see…"

Deciding to forget about the issue regarding their relationship for now, Izuku shifted his attention to the reason why Vergil was here with him. He didn't want to know what was going to happen if he annoys this man in some way.

"But such trivial things do not matter at the moment. I am here to talk with you about something important, Izuku."

The boy raised an eyebrow, curiosity now taking over his entire being.

"W-Why…?"

Vergil took a step closer towards his descendant, who did his best to remain in place despite his growing nervousness around his apparent ancestor. From his icy cold expression to that katana that he was holding, Izuku didn't want to make any wrong moves that could end badly for him.

The man in the blue coat stopped one meter in front of the boy and narrowed his eyes at Izuku, who was just about to freak out from the intimidating presence that Vergil exhibited.

"To decide whether or not that you would receive my power."

That caused Izuku to blink in surprise at his answer, as his confusion only grew even more.

What did Vergil mean by that? Receive his power? He couldn't be talking about a quirk, right? The man said he was born way before quirks started.

"Huh?"

"Tell me, boy. Do you believe in demons?"

Izuku then scratched his head, unsure of what to say. He didn't expect a question like that from the older man but whatever this is about, it might be important.

"W-Well… I-I'm not exactly religious, b-but I-I think devils are interesting to read about…?" Izuku answered in the most honest tone that he could muster.

Vergil quirked an eyebrow, a bit surprised that a boy like him didn't seem frightened of the supernatural despite his demeanor.

"Is that so? Then it would be for the best if you listen closely to what I'm going to say, as I do not like to repeat myself."

Izuku nodded, internally wondering what Vergil was going to tell him.

"Long ago, there was a demon who rebelled against his own kind for the sake of humanity. He saw something in humans that was worth fighting for, so he fought against fellow demons to protect them. That demon's name was Sparda, and he was a general to the demon emperor Mundus."

"Mundus…"

Despite having no idea who Mundus was or what he was like other than he was known as the demon emperor, Izuku felt a chill down his spine as he said that name. It's like the demon's name alone carried a sense of pure evil and ruin, and Izuku made a mental note to remember it.

"Sparda fought against the Underworld's armies on his own and won. He even fought Mundus and prevailed, sealing the demon emperor away with his own power. He was hailed by humans for his actions, and he was known to them as the 'Legendary Dark Knight'. If Sparda existed in this world now, you humans will praise him for being a hero."

"Yeah, I can s-see that happening…" Izuku muttered, feeling amazed that someone like Sparda, who was a demon, was willing to take up arms against his own race to fight for humanity. If he existed in the world today, he would be a popular hero and maybe even give All Might a run for his money!

Of course, Izuku only thought of it as an old legend, because there's no way that demons actually existed… heh.

"Is that all I need to know, Vergil-san?"

"I've barely even scratched the surface," Vergil said in a slightly amused tone, before reverting back to a serious one. "After defeating the demon emperor, Sparda fell in love with a woman and started a family with her. They bore twin sons, and I was one of them."

Izuku froze.

"Y-You mean that y-y-you're…?"

Vergil nodded, confirming the boy's growing suspicion.

"That's right. I am part-demon and part-human."

Izuku's eyes widened again, completely taken aback by what he just heard.

Vergil, the man whom he had been conversing with until now, was actually a demon. Not only that, but this also meant that what he said about Sparda was also true, as well as the demon emperor Mundus.

The quirkless boy pushed back the growing fear in his body and shifted his entire focus on what Vergil said, because it sounded outrageous even for a nerd like him. As far as his knowledge went, demons don't exist in real life and they can only be found in stories.

Even in their world where the impossible can be a reality, it just sounded too far-fetched.

There's no way that what Vergil says is true… right?

"But… Vergil-san, h-how can you be a d-d-demon? It… It just… i-i-it just sounds impossible to think that demons even exist, and… t-to hear about you being Sparda's son… I-I'm having trouble trying to understand all this, honestly…"

Vergil didn't look surprised that Izuku thought of Sparda and the concept of demons as something impossible, but he wasn't going to waste time trying to explain everything to the boy.

"Boy, a normal human isn't capable of showing up in your mindscape like this, no matter what kind of quirk he possesses. My mere essence is tinged with demonic power, that of which you have in you blood. That is how I am able to manifest a physical form even if I'm not in my own body. Did you think that you were making this all up in your silly imagination?"

Izuku blinked.

"Oh…"

The boy suddenly felt like an idiot.

Even though he saw the man in the blue coat earlier, there was absolutely no reason for him to dream about Vergil, especially without considering it a nightmare due to his presence alone.

Izuku couldn't have known that they were related before this, either. Perhaps he did feel a sense of familiarity towards Vergil earlier, but he never thought of them having the same blood until it was revealed to him!

"I… d-didn't think of it until now…"

Well, in any case he couldn't exactly argue against what the older man told him.

This only proved that Vergil was indeed his ancestor, because there's no other explanation for how the half-demon can show up in his mind if they didn't have the same blood flowing through them.

It also meant that the Vergil he saw earlier was only a construct by his own mind, and he wasn't really there with him. Although, it did bring up the question if the half-demon caused that phenomena to happen from within his mind…

"Furthermore, a normal human isn't capable of doing this."

Snapping out of his thoughts, the quirkless boy quickly took several steps back out of pure instinct, just in time for him to evade a purple bolt of lightning that engulfed Vergil completely.

Izuku's heroic nature quickly kicked in and he was ready to rush towards the half-demon with no hesitation in order to save him, only to stop in his tracks when the lightning already dissipated and revealed what was underneath, which caused the boy's jaw to drop.

Vergil's appearance had changed completely, to the point that it could be said that it wasn't him who was standing there anymore.

The boy started to feel terrified upon seeing the blue humanoid creature before him, and there's no doubt that it was Vergil himself. His trench coat bore several white imprints, his spiky hair turned into a crest with small horns sticking out, his eyes had turned dark blue, and his teeth became fangs. He also had blue-clawed feet, black claws, and his sword appeared to be attached to his sleeve like a clawed appendage.

This was the power of a devil and Izuku was seeing it with his own eyes.

Before Izuku could make any kind of comment however, Vergil reverted back to his normal appearance and continued to speak as if nothing happened.

"As I was saying, Sparda began a family and I was one of his sons. However, we were attacked by demons many years later which led to the death of our mother and our father's disappearance. From there, I was left alone."

"W-What happened t-to your b-brother, then?" Izuku asked, somehow managing to regain some of his composure even after being terrified of Vergil's power just moments ago.

"He survived as well, but we went our separate ways after that. We did not see each other for many years and when we did cross paths once again, it wasn't what you would call a 'heartwarming reunion'."

For a moment, just a moment, a sad glint appeared in Vergil's eyes while talking about his brother, but he was able to hide it quickly behind his serious expression.

Izuku raised an eyebrow, having an idea of what the Vergil was trying to say.

"Which means…"

"My brother and I were always at odds with one another, even when we were still children. We were opposites, rivals, whatever you wish to call it. After fighting each other countless times during a particular crisis, he defeated me and I let myself fall to the Underworld where I was confronted by Mundus. However, unlike my father, I was unable to prevail against the demon emperor and he turned me into his personal soldier."

Izuku gasped, completely taken aback that Vergil went through such a thing. Considering how menacing he looked moments ago, he must be a powerful force to be reckoned with. Plus, since he happened to be one of Sparda's sons, he had to be as strong as his father!

"B-But you escaped, right? Y-Y-You wouldn't be here if you were still on Mundus' side!"

Vergil gave a slow nod.

"Yes I did, eventually, though it took the efforts of my brother and our father's power for Mundus to be sealed once again," he explained, before shaking his head afterwards. "There is more for you to learn beyond that, but I do not have enough time to tell you all about it."

Izuku opened his mouth to say something, but nothing really came out in the end. He could tell that there were a lot of other things left unsaid about the man in the blue coat, but Izuku didn't want to do something that he might regret, like asking Vergil to tell more about himself.

"Nevertheless, have you understood everything I've said thus far?" asked the son of Sparda.

"I-I'm still trying to t-take all of this in because… this is something very different to the stuff I see everyday…" Izuku rubbed the back of his head nervously before an idea struck him. "W-Wait a second, if you can appear in my mind, t-then that means that somehow, your essence got passed down to your family which also explains how you know about quirks and who I am! I didn't really think something like this was possible, but since you're a d-demon, you're different from a normal human. Does this also mean you've talked to my mom before? If your essence got passed down your family, then a part of you must be in muttermuttermutter…"

Vergil stared blankly at Izuku as the boy went into one of his muttering sprees, his expression being unreadable until a few moments later.

If someone else could see Vergil right now, he would have ended that person's existence for seeing him looking annoyed.

"Enough!" he shouted, shutting up the boy immediately. Vergil glared at him for a few moments, making sure that he was truly quiet before speaking once again. "I will ask you one question, Izuku, and you will answer it with certainty."

Izuku didn't hesitate to nod, too terrified of the half-demon to say anything else.

"Yes."

The half-demon leaned closer towards him.

"Do you want power?"

Izuku blinked in surprise at that question, and he quickly wondered what Vergil meant by it even though he already had an answer to that.

That question was simple, as well as his answer.

Izuki always wanted to have a quirk of his own and that never changed until now. There have been many times where he wished that things have gone differently, where the doctor would tell him that he had a quirk and that he can be a hero. Perhaps things would have been completely different that way.

He wouldn't have to go through the sight of his mother crying and blaming herself, he would've been better friends with Kacchan just like when they were younger, and his meeting with All Might would have ended in a better way.

"…I do."

After hearing his answer, Vergil observed him for a bit before continuing to speak.

"Tell me, boy. What will you do if you happen to gain power? What is your motivation?"

Izuku couldn't help but scratch the back of his head. He felt surprised and confused that Vergil was asking him these sudden question, but he quickly pushed aside his growing curiosity so he could answer the half-demon.

"I… I just want to be a hero and help people. All my life, I've wanted nothing more than to follow the footsteps of the hero I admire the most and bring hope in people's lives. I want to do what I can to make the world a better place, but I suppose I can't do that anymore, not after today…"

Vergil listened to his every word carefully and didn't notice any sign of deception whatsoever. He was telling the truth and from the sad look on the boy's face, he felt disappointed that he wouldn't get to do what he wanted. Once Izuku was done, he gave him a small nod in return.

"Yes, I am aware of your condition. I know you are one of those humans who are known as quirkless. However, I am quite curious on how you can't become a hero simply because you don't have a quirk. Quirks are not everything and they do not define what a human is. Furthermore, even without a quirk, you can protect people and yourself as long as you have strength."

The boy stared at Vergil in shock, as he wasn't expecting the older man to say such things, especially the last part of his explanation.

Did Vergil, a half-demon, half-human being who had a menacing glare and a frightening devil form, just imply that he can be a hero despite his quirkless state, which was something that Kacchan and All Might couldn't do?

"Y-You think that I can be a hero…?" he asked, his voice cracking which meant that he was on the verge of tears.

Vergil narrowed his eyes at him.

"I do not think, I know. The majority of humans here are born with quirks, but most of them lack the strength to protect themselves that they have to rely on heroes to do the job. In that sense, they aren't any different than those who are born quirkless," Vergil folded his arms and simply stared into the void beyond them. "In this world, might controls everything and without it, you cannot protect yourself, let alone anyone else."

Izuku widened his eyes as he took in every single one Vergil's words, before quickly understanding the meaning behind them.

The man in blue was right; despite being born with quirks, most of the people around him still relied on heroes and praise them all the time. What they do wasn't any different compared to him and the other quirkless people of society, yet the people who had quirks look down on them like they were a disgrace.

Of course, he knew that the law doesn't allow the usage of quirks in public, but what if there were instances where people had no choice but to use their powers?

Suppose that there was a fire going on in a building. Should the people there just wait for the pro heroes to arrive before they have a chance of being saved? It almost sounded like they want to risk their lives instead of keeping themselves safe.

In other words, quirkless people are being treated unfairly by those who had quirks, yet they are nothing more than hypocrites if all they do is stand and watch as the pros save people.

And it was someone like Vergil who told him about this. Kacchan didn't have that same mindset because he believed that heroes are the best and nobody else is on their level, which is why he wanted to be one someday. All Might didn't seem to think that way too, because he was a pro himself and those like him would rather have civilians stay safe than do anything to help.

"I… haven't thought of it that way…" he mumbled, before letting out a sigh of defeat. "But I don't think it matters now. The U.A. Entrance Exam is in ten months and e-even if I did train hard enough for it, I don't think it'll be enough for me to pass. Maybe if I thought of what you said a lot earlier, Vergil-san, I could have started training years ago and I could have a chance."

The half-demon turned his attention back towards Izuku, while raising an eyebrow out of curiosity.

"But what if there was an instance where you could gain the power that you've longed to have? What will you do with it?"

For what seemed like the first time since they started talking, a serious look formed on Izuku's face before uttering his next words.

"Then I would do what I said just now, Vergil-san. I'll do my best to be a hero and save people as much as I can."

"And what about those who doubted you when you were still quirkless? Those who looked down on you? Those who would rather see you dead than alive because they saw you as someone worthless? What are you going to do with them?"

Vergil returned his expression with a serious look of his own, one that was surprisingly matched by Izuku who showed no hint of nervousness in his eyes.

"I won't do anything. I'm not a villain who looks down on everyone else just because they did it to me first. I won't stoop to that level. I want to be a hero who gives hope to people, not take advantage of what I can do."

"You'd let them be despite having the power to fight back?"

"I didn't say that, Vergil-san. I only said that I won't give in to revenge and get back at those who did bad things to me. I'm not like that. I'll… fight back if I need to, but helping other people will always be what matters more to me."

Vergil stared at the young boy in slight surprise, while also feeling interested in how he retained a strong sense of justice and morality despite being offered the power to crush his enemies in a hypothetical situation.

For a moment, he saw his younger brother in Izuku's place flashing one of his goofy smiles, causing Vergil to close his eyes before letting out a small chuckle in amusement.

"You share some similarities with my brother, but I can see you are firm in your conviction."

Izuku's serious look broke as he stared at Vergil in surprise. He didn't expect to be compared to a half-demon's brother, but it's not like there was anything bad about it.

If anything, Izuku somehow felt flattered since it was like a compliment from an intimidating individual like Vergil. After all, he did say that his brother managed to defeat a demon emperor back then…

"O-Oh, I… don't know what to say…" he muttered with a flustered look.

After a brief moment of silence between them, Vergil opened his eyes and donned a serious look once again, before turning back towards the boy.

"Very well. I will bestow my power on to you, Izuku Midoriya."

The boy almost felt his heart stop.

"W-What…? You can do that?"

"As long as my essence exists inside of a human, I can affect their heritage and structure through my blood, especially one who is my descendant."

Izuku's eyes were as wide as dinner plates by now, unable to believe what he was hearing. If he was still dreaming, then he would say that he was having a dream within a dream. If not, then his ears must be playing tricks on him and he was just hearing what he wanted to hear!

Besides, Vergil can't be serious… right?

"You are going to inherit the power and knowledge of a demon, which is myself. Once you wake up, you will notice that your body has changed immensely while you were sleeping. Everything that you aren't capable of doing before, you will be able to do so now and you can even achieve your dream, but I only ask one thing in return."

Okay, he was definitely serious and the quirkless boy was struggling to keep himself and his emotions in check, which was a mix between happiness and feeling emotional.

The last part of his explanation was enough to catch Izuku's attention though, because it sounded like a condition he needed to fulfill.

"W-What is it, Vergil-san?" Izuku asked, looking slightly out of it as he was still trying to recover from his shock.

"Should you ever come across the demon emperor Mundus, you have to stop him and put an end to him once and for all, whatever it takes to do so. If you don't, your world will be doomed to perish."

That was something that brought him out of his trance completely, his growing joy being replaced by total confusion.

That shouldn't be possible. The half-demon said it himself earlier, Mundus was defeated and sealed away, twice even! With this in mind, it shouldn't even be possible for the demon emperor to escape again.

"Wait, what? W-Why would that happen? I thought he was already sealed away by your brother?" he asked, feeling a sense of dread forming in the pit of stomach as he said those words.

Vergil didn't answer right away but rather, he only stared into the distance for a few momengs, as though he was contemplating over something. The boy waited patiently for him to say something and just when he was about to do so, it wasn't what Izuku wanted to hear.

"You'll know the answer when the time comes," Vergil spoke as he turned back towards his descendant for the last time.

And with that, the blue-clad Son of Sparda faded away before Izuku could even say anything else.

Izuku's eyes snapped open with a jolt, and the first thing he saw was the ceiling of his bedroom. He quickly sat up and looked around, where he saw that he was truly within the confines of his own room, and that the meeting between him and Vergil only took place inside a dream.

He felt torn between relieved and disappointed at the moment; he was relieved that demons and Mundus were nothing but made-up stories because if the demon emperor was real, there's no telling what will happen to their world if he came back.

He didn't even want to think of the possibility of their beloved pro heroes struggling to fight against demons.

On the other hand, Izuku was disappointed that what Vergil told him about passing on his own power to him was nothing but a construct of his own imagination. The half-demon may have told him that he can be a hero on his own, but he didn't have faith that he can pass the U.A. Entrance Exam, even if he trained himself to the absolute limit for the remaining ten months.

Oh, who was he kidding?

Being able to have a quirk of his own was just a stupid dream he had, one that will never come true because he was a quirkless nobody. Vergil gave him hope when he said that he can pass on his power to him because they had the same blood, but it was all just a part of his imagination.

Heh, he must be feeling desperate inside because he knew to himself that he can never be a hero if he stays as the quirkless nerd that he was.

Izuku released a deep sigh, hanging his head low.

"I guess I was just dreaming the whole time… I wasn't really talking with Vergil-san about—"

The boy stopped in his words the moment he raised his hands, where he saw that he had something in his grasp that definitely didn't belong to him.

It was the same katana and scabbard that Vergil had, and he was holding it in his left hand.

His eyes widened in complete shock at seeing the katana in his hand, when he only saw it in a dream he had and that it belonged to someone else, no less. He quickly tried to think of an explanation for this because this should be impossible, but that was when he caught a glimpse of his own reflection in the mirror, and there was something about himself that immediately caught his attention.

Getting out of bed, Izuku went to the mirror in his room to take a closer look and his eyes widened even more when he noticed that something about him has changed completely.

His hair wasn't even of the color green anymore, but rather it was white, the exact same as Vergil. He also noticed how he looked bigger underneath his shirt and pajamas with his muscles being more defined, so much that any trace of his weak and toothpick-like structure was thrown out of the window.

"It… happened…" he mumbled quietly as a smile began to slowly form on his face, realizing what exactly happened to him. "Everything Vergil-san said… it came true… he was telling the truth…"

It all made sense now.

Vergil said that he would bestow him with his power… and he did, which means…

He wasn't dreaming about the man in the blue coat all this time!

Izuku looked at the sword in his hand, before looking at his reflection then back at the weapon, as overwhelming joy filled up his entire being. The two encounters he had today with Katsuki and All Might was already forgotten, because Izuku was focused on something else entirely… something that he realized upon thinking what this meant for him.

"I can finally be a hero! I can finally be a hero!"

Needless to say, Izuku had his best sleep in years by the time he went back to bed, because he couldn't wait for tomorrow to arrive.

What's more dangerous than Izuku? MOTIVATED Izuku! If it isn't already obvious, this fic is all about Izuku getting Vergil's power and just kicking ass like the badass he is. Right now, he has received Vergil's powers but what is he gonna do with them when he wakes up in the morning? How's his mom gonna react to him having white hair? Lol.
