Trick or treat
Summary: Regina is at home enjoying a nice Halloween seeing all the kids' costumes when she get a pleasant surprise.
World: Non-magic
This had to be one of Regina's favorite holidays by far, seeing the kids in the costumes running around gathering all the candy they could carry. But if she was being truthful she really loved seeing the parents part take in the event as well. It was a tradition in her family, to set up a fire pit in the driveway, have some homemade cookies with hot apple cider, while they watch the kids come and go. For the last few years, since her mother passed of old age, Regina has been doing this tradition alone. Sometimes her neighbors come over and sit with her for a while to talk and catch up, because Regina has no prospects. But this doesn't bother her, yes she would like to find that special women to spend the rest of her life, but most of all Regina likes being alone, or so is what she tells herself.
"Hey Mary," Regina says as her neighbor comes up to take a seat next to the fire.
"Hey Regina, how's it going," Mary Margaret said staring into the fire. Looking as if she is trying to fine all the answers she needs in it. Regina notices this and raises an eyebrow.
"I'm alright…are you okay though," Regina asks inquisitively to her friend. Mary Margaret continues to just stare in the flames trying to figure out the best way to answer that question. After a second Regina sits up a little to put a hand on her friends arm to jar her back to reality. "Mary…" Mary shakes her head deciding on just ripping the Band-Aid open.
"I think my son Neil is smoking pot," Mary said at the exact moment a new group of kids with their parents were walking up. Mary's face instantly gone red she did not dare make eye contact with the other mother's standing just a few feet away from her. Regina mumble an apology to the parents and quickly disperse out the candy to the kids as fast as she could. Once the trick or treaters were out of ear shot, Regina looked over at her friend, for some clarity. Regina could tell that this was weighing down on her, but she didn't want to push her into opening up. Mary however must have felt Regina's eyes on her for she looked up, making eye contact, shrugging the shoulders. "So I was doing some laundry this afternoon and one of his jeans ended up in our wash. Right way I could tell there was a smoky odor coming from them. At first I thought they were David's but then I saw that they were American eagle's, David only wears Wranglers. I went to make sure that pockets were empty, in one of the front pockets I felt crumbs, I grabbed a handful out, and they looked like small green specks. But when I took a big whiff of it smell like…well a really strong plant. Plus I googled it, I'm like 86 percent sure that it is marijuana."
"Have you told David about your suspicions," Regina asked.
"No!" Mary shouted shaking her head, her face getting red, surprised by her own actions. She looks at Regina and just pouts, because her friend is looking back with a look that Mary knows too well by now. "Your right, I know. I'm going to have to tell David about it because it's his son too. But I can't do it with Neil in the same house….or within a 15 mile radius of our house." Mary corrects herself knowing to well what her husband will do. "You know David, he…well he's fucking Prince Charming he feels like he has to do everything right. Say all the right things to Neil and I, do what is right, even if I pains him, raise a son that is humble and true. But that's not life and that certainly isn't Neil." Mary finishes reaching for a cookie, glad that she finally has all that of her chest. She smiles a toothy smile to the new set of kids walking up to them wanting some candy, revealing a little chocolate on her tooth, Regina can't help but to smile glad that her friend is somewhat her cheery self again.
"You're right," Regina began watching the kids run off to their parents eager to show them what candy they just got. "Neil isn't David, no one is like David, he's one of a kind." Regina can't help but chuckle at her choice for words. "David grew up in a small town, where everyone knew one another, his father was Mayor, hell his mother practically ran every organization there Right?" Regina asked seeing her friend just nod her head, "So yeah David thought he had to be perfect, but this is Boston where it's okay to crawl before you walk. I think what you should do is send Neil over to one of his friends and just talk to David." Regina reach forward grabbed hold of Mary Margaret hand, giving her a reassuring squeeze that she got this. Regina and Mary continue to talk for another half an hour before Mary decides to call it a night walking back to her side of the street. With the wind picking up at an alarming rate, fewer trick or treaters walking by, Regina herself decided to call it a night. Deciding to clean the fire pit out in the morning, Regina folds up her chair, putting it inside the garage, grabbing the plate of cookies, her apple cider and the bowl of candy as she heads inside. She grabs the remote to put on the weather, walking to the kitchen to do her dishes. Once that's all done she retires in the living noticing a big storm coming in off the coast, when she hears her doorbell. Think that it was just Mary checking up on her, she shout for her to come in, but when Mary doesn't open the door, she walks over to it to open it herself. Standing there wasn't Mary Margaret like she thought, but instead a blond woman, dressed in armor, with a white cape hanging on her back, with a silver crown on her head. Right in front of her was a little boy no older than 10, wearing armor as well, with a helmet on his head, but with a shield in one hand, and a sword in the other. Regina is at a loss for words, the first in ever since a women has left her speechless.
"Um…hi. I'm Emma," the blonde started until the boy below clears his throat. If Regina would have taken her off of Emma, she would have missed the cute little eye roll she did, when her presume son cleared his throat, she couldn't help to think how tragic that might've been to not witness. "Good evening my lady, I'm King Emma, this is my knight Prince Henry, and it would have seemed that we must have taken the wrong turn. We are trying to get back to West Chester and Broad madam," Emma finished looking rather distraught saying all that out loud. Regina finally tears her eyes away from the beautiful blonde standing in front of her to the young brown hair boy at her feet, who is looking back with much curiosity in his eyes.
"Yeah…you go down this street until you hit the stop sign, make a left and it's about ten blocks up," Regina finally recovering.
"Ten block!?" Henry shouts in anguish causing Regina to smile down at him.
"Well, we have been at this for two hours kid," Emma says holding up the pillow case full of candy.
"I would offer you a lift, but my car is in the shop," Regina said trying really hard not to show how disappointed she was that they may not stay but then again why would they she thought. Just like magic as Emma and Henry turn to leave it starts pouring down rain causing them to halt in their step. "Come on in, you can't go walking in that," Regina exclaim a little too excited. "I have some homemade cookies and apple cider in the fridge, I can make you some, while we wait to see if this storm is going to pass."
"EWW! Apple cider yuck," Henry said contorting his face up to show distaste for the drink.
"Umm Prince Henry may I remained you that you're a Knight, therefore you must show our host um…" Emma looks up confused.
"Regina."
"Ah Regina, our host Regina some thankfulness for opening up her home to us."
"I'm sorry madam, I would love some…Apple cider, thank you." Henry said with much difficultly on apple cider. Regina could help but chuckle at these antic they really try to go all out for Halloween.
"I have some hot chocolate," Regina offered. Henry jump up and fist pump the air, nodding his enthusiasm. Regina turned to go into the kitchen feeling Henry right on her heels. Boy this kid must really love some cookies and hot chocolate. "So tell me why King Emma and not Queen Emma," she asks giving a quick glance over to the blonde in hopes to not stare to long at her beautiful features.
"Excuse me ma'am, but my mama doesn't like men, she likes women. If we call her Queen, then men will try to be her King, but she wants a Queen. Isn't that right mama?" Henry looks over at his mother, who in return just gives him a slight nod. Regina notices that Emma face is turning a bright scarlet red from Henry confession. Regina smiles at this, at the pair she would love to know, how they got so close, for most parents like to beat around the bush when it comes to sexuality. She places a plate of cookies in the middle of the table, with three hot chocolates, one for each of them, when she turns to Henry.
"That okay Henry, I'm trying to find a King myself, to spend all the days of my life," Regina started staring at Emma hopefully to get her point across. "And who knows, maybe a little Knight as well.
"Oh..." Henry said looking down at the cookie he was eating. "Well mama looks like you got to keep looking, she wants a Man King" he said reaching over to put a hand on his mother's arm. Emma entranced in what Regina had said, had not yet hear Henry, until she fully realize what her son had said, causing the woman to burst one laughing. Henry looking confused at his own mother reaction, looked at her drink, before rounding on Regina.
"Madam what did you put in my mother's drink," he said looking back at Emma. "Whatever is was, may I have some," he said holding up his own mug. For the next hour the conversation was light and fun, Henry made his way to the television where he soon figured out how to put his cartoons on. At first Emma wanted Henry to apologize for not asking first, when Regina reassured her it was fine. Regina unbashful kept asking Emma questions about her and her son's life, in enter Emma did the same, just as curious about the brunette.
"Umm hate to be the barrier of bad news…." Regina started taking a glimpse outside. "But it looks like it's not easing up." Emma turned around so fast, Regina wondering how she didn't just get whiplash from it, looking horror struck out the window. "It's quick fine Emma. You can stay the night, I have a guess bedroom you two can sleep in. I have a pair of pajamas that will fit you, however nothing for Henry, maybe just an oversized shirt will do" Regina notice a lot of emotions going across Emma face, too fast for her to register what they were. "I promise I'm not an axe murder." Regina couldn't help chuckle at that.
"That's exactly what an axe murder would say," Emma said in a playful tone. "Thank you, I don't like the idea of walking with him in pouring down rain for ten blocks." Emma looked down, starring at her intertwine hands clearing wanting to ask Regina something but not wanting to over step. "Why are you doing this though? Not saying I'm not grateful I am. But you didn't us, and yet you extended your home to us. Why?" Regina was puzzled at this, she didn't know whether to tell the truth, or say it was the right thing to witch it was but still. After a moment Regina decides to tell the truth even though it might creep the woman sitting opposite from her.
"Honestly, when I opened that door…I was speechless. I've never met anyone as breathe taking as you. And even though I really didn't know you in that moment, I felt like I knew you my whole life, plus look how cute you son is." They both look in the living room to a past out Henry, drool coming down his face, they both chuckle at that moment. Regina turns back to Emma with admiration in her eyes. "This might be a little forward, but I like you, I would really like it if you would go on a date with me," Regina asked, her hands shaking. Emma notice Regina shaking hands, reaching over to take them in hers.
"And exactly what have we been doing for the last two hours?" Emma releases Regina hands, goes to stand, and comes run the table kneeling in front of Regina. Regina watches Emma with wondrous eye as she kneeling down in front of her.
"Um…seating in my dining room," Regina says after a minute realizing Emma was waiting for an answer. Emma looks up at Regina with a smile on her face realizing she needs to spell it out.
"On dates, we eat." Emma start gesturing to the empty plate and drinks. "We talk, we mainly just have fun." Emma takes Regina hand in hers creasing the back of it with her thumb. Regina slowly nods as she connecting the dots Emma had laid out for her. "And what is most dates end with…" Emma starts tabbing a finger against her lips like she is really thinking about it long and hard. With a stomach full of butterflies, Regina looks down on Emma knowing that she is about to kiss her Wondering how she got so lucky that Emma came up to her house, and not someone else, was it fate or magic. Emma presses her lips against Regina's, giving her a soft tender kiss.
