It had been about three weeks since the truth came out about Regina and Emma, but the tension was still so thick that you could cut it with a knife. David was happy that his daughter was happy and Zelena couldn't be happier for her sister, but Snow was still dead-set against Emma being with Regina. Snow had even tried stopping Hook from moving out of the castle, but he had accepted that it was over between him and Emma. Everyone in the kingdom was gossiping, trying to figure out what happened at the castle since Hook moved out. Snow and David walked into Emma's room to see her alone.
"Where's Regina?" David asked.
"She went out for a ride" Emma said.
"And you didn't go with her?" David asked.
"I wasn't in the mood" Emma said. "So, what do I owe this visit?"
"We need to address the kingdom" Snow said. "We need to set the record straight about why Hook left."
"Okay, I will tell them that I am in love with someone else" Emma said. "I'm sure the people will be more accepting than my own mother has been."
"You can't" Snow said. "We will tell them that you and Hook simply grew apart."
"Dad, do you think this is what I should do?" Emma asked.
"I think your mother is right" David said. "I think we should hold off on letting everyone know about you and Regina."
Emma thought for a moment.
"Okay" Emma said. "I will address the kingdom."
"Get dressed and we'll address them in an hour" Snow said. "You're doing the right thing."
"I know" Emma said.
Snow and David walked out of the room.
About an hour later, Regina walked into the room to see Emma in a pale purple gown and a tiara on her head.
"What's all this?" Regina asked.
"What do you think?" Emma asked.
"You look amazing" Regina said, pulling her close.
"Great" Emma said. "I get to address the rumours spreading around the kingdom about Hook leaving."
Regina looked at Emma.
"My mother's idea" Emma said. "But, I have a few surprises in store for her."
Emma used her magic to change Regina's riding outfit into a blue gown.
"What's going on?" Regina asked.
"You'll see" Emma said. "Just wait for your cue."
"What is my cue?" Regina asked.
"You'll know" Emma said. "Trust me."
Regina was worried about what Emma had in store, but trusted that Emma knew what she was doing.
Emma walked out of her room and joined her parents on the balcony and looked out at everyone gathered in the open field.
"I know that you are all wondering what has been happening at the castle the last few weeks and why Hook moved out" Emma said. "And I am here to set the record straight. Hook and I grew apart. It happens with couples all the time. People fall in love, but then they grow apart for whatever reason."
Emma looked at her parents and then glanced inside to see Regina standing there and then she looked out at the people.
"The reason Hook and I grew apart was because I fell in love with somebody else" Emma said.
"Don't" Snow warned.
"In fact, I loved this person before I even loved Hook. Before I even knew him" Emma said. "But, I told myself that it wasn't going to happen. Do you all want to know who your princess is in love with?"
The crowd cheered, so Emma looked back into the castle.
"I present to you the future and current queen of the Enchanted Forest" Emma said. "Regina."
Regina walked out onto the balcony and stood next to Emma. The crowd was silent.
"I warned you this wouldn't turn out well" Snow said.
Suddenly, Mulan, Red and Dorothy started clapping and everyone slowly joined in.
"Looks like it worked out after all" Emma said, smiling.
Emma looked at Regina.
"Shall we give them something to talk about?" Emma whispered.
"Lets" Regina whispered back.
Emma and Regina kissed and the crowd cheered louder. David noticed Snow tensing up, so he placed his hands lovingly on her shoulders.
Once the four of them were back in the castle, Snow snapped.
"What was that?" Snow asked. "We agreed on the story you were going to tell them."
"You don't think our people have a right to know the truth?" Emma asked. "You heard them out there. Clearly they're okay with their princess being in love with another woman. The only one who seems to have a problem with Regina and me is you. Why mom? Why can't you just be happy for us?"
"I told you that it's not the way a princess behaves" Snow said.
"Give it a rest, mom" Emma snapped. "The people don't care so why should we?"
Emma looked at Regina.
"Let's go" Emma said. "I don't want to be where we're not wanted."
Emma and Regina walked away, hand-in-hand.
David looked at Snow.
"Don't you start" Snow said.
"Snow, it's been weeks" David said. "And Emma's right. The people seem to be okay with this. She's our daughter and we should support her. All we wanted for her was to be happy and she is."
Snow didn't say anything.
"We already lost her once" David said. "Do you really want to lose her again?"
"Of course not" Snow said.
"Well, if you keep acting this way, you will lose her" David said. "Just be happy for our daughter and give her and Regina your blessing. It's not too late."
David kissed Snow and walked away.
Emma was pacing around the room, so Regina put her hands on Emma's shoulders to stop her.
"Talk to me" Regina said.
"I just don't get it" Emma said. "I don't get why my mom is so against us being together. I mean, she said she was going to forgive you. She was worried about how everyone would react, but you saw it. They were okay with it. Why can't she be?"
"I don't know" Regina said. "But, you are her daughter and she loves you, so she'll come around eventually. Just give her some time to warm up to the idea."
"It's been three weeks since she found out" Emma said. "How much more time does she need?"
There was a knock on the door so Regina opened it to see Snow standing there.
"Can we talk?" Snow asked.
"I'm not in the mood" Emma said.
"Please" Snow begged.
"Hear her out" Regina said.
Emma looked at Regina.
"I'll leave you two alone" Regina said. "I'll be in the stables."
Regina walked out of the room and Emma turned her back to Snow.
"You know I really don't want to hear it" Emma said.
"I'm sorry" Snow said. "I should have supported you."
"You should have" Emma said. "Instead you wanted me to hide who I really am. You all but said that I was a disgrace to the family because I love a woman."
"I am sorry" Snow said. "I never should have made you feel like that."
"Then why did you?" Emma asked, turning around to face Snow.
"I guess I was just caught up in the traditions of the past" Snow said. "But, I was wrong. We are in the present and we need to look to the future. And I know you said that you didn't want to, but this kingdom could use a princess like you. Someone who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it no matter who might try to talk her out of it. So what do you say? You want to take up the mantle?"
"Well, I guess that depends" Emma said. "Are you happy for me and Regina? Do you approve?"
"If she makes you happy, then I am happy" Snow said.
Emma smiled and then hugged Snow.
"Thanks mom" Emma said. "That means a lot. I've got to go find Regina."
Emma ran out of the room as Snow looked out the window.
A few minutes later, Emma ran into the stables to see Regina saddling up her horse.
"Did you and your mom have a good talk?" Regina asked.
"It was better than good" Emma said. "She gave us her blessing."
"That's great" Regina said. "Listen, you want to go for a ride?"
"Sounds great" Emma said.
Emma kissed Regina and then saddled up her horse. Regina used her magic to change Emma's gown into a riding outfit and the two of them got on their horses and hit the trails.
Red was walking back from Granny's and saw Mulan sitting on a log, so she decided to go see what was going on. Red sat down next to Mulan.
"Are you okay?" Red asked. "You seem a little down."
"Its nothing" Mulan said.
"You know that you can talk to me about anything" Red said.
"That was some surprise at the castle, huh?" Mulan said.
"Tell me about it" Red said. "Emma and Regina."
"It does make you wonder though" Mulan said. "About true love. I mean, wasn't Hook supposed to be Emma's true love?"
"I guess not" Red said.
"But, both Emma and Hook believed that they were" Mulan said.
"What are you getting at?" Red asked.
"I don't know" Mulan said. "Let's just talk about something else."
"No, something is going on with you" Red said. "What is it?"
"Red, just leave it alone okay" Mulan begged.
"This is clearly eating away at you" Red said. "Talk to me."
"It's just with everything that happened here today, I thought maybe true love isn't as true as we think" Mulan said. "Maybe true love comes from where you least expect it."
Red looked confused.
"Red, I have feelings for you" Mulan said.
Red was speechless.
"And I know that you broke Dorothy's sleeping curse with true love's kiss" Mulan said. "But, I think we just saw that what we think is true love, doesn't always mean that it is."
"Oh Mulan" Red said. "I had no idea. It's just that I really do love Dorothy. You are my best friend, but."
"I get it" Mulan interrupted. "I just had to get it off my chest."
Mulan walked away with tears in her eyes and Red watched her with a heavy heart.
