(A/N: Chang of plans…again. We got an extra chapter to explore more Elsa and Donovan. Apparently, I did so well with Donovan and Elsa's relationship the past two chapters. (Looks at my own hands) WHY WAS I CURSED WITH SUCH INCREDIBLE WRITING SKILLS?! Expect 2 updates this week since this is my final week of quarantine hopefully. Although I am glad to have time off from work to explore my hobbies more, I need to get back to work. My boss told me on the phone that they all miss me.)
CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE: LOVE AGAIN
Three weeks. That was how long it had been since Donovan saw Elsa. He tried to focus on work, but his efforts were in vain. The amazing kiss they shared had robbed him of all focus. Since that moment of passion when he was bold enough to kiss the lips of a real goddess, Elsa was all he could think about. It was as if every memory of her was playing on repeat over and over. The more he dwelled on those few precious memories, the more he realized Elsa had stolen his heart before he even realized it at the Ball.
First time he saw her was when he was five years old when she suddenly appeared in a storm. His young mind was blown away by how cool she appeared like some beautiful angel being that he did not hesitate to run up to her and ask her to be his friend. Unlike everyone else, he didn't see a terrible witch but a beautiful angel. Can I keep you?
Years later, he got the position as Kai's assistant and ran with documents around a corner to urgently find Queen Anna and ended up running into Elsa. At the time, something sparked in his mind when he saw Elsa standing above him and then knelt to help him gather the documents. She felt familiar but she was surrounded with an enigma that constantly nagged him whenever he began to think about it.
Not long after that, he got cocky and tried to carry a large heavy chest up the latter to the storage space in the palace's large attic. There she was again and the nagging feeling only grew and what felt like a cloud of fog on his past was slowly lifting. The two encounters caused him to feel things. Those moments he felt someone watching him. He had his suspicions when he felt that same feeling in the parlor with Lila. Elsa was secretly watching him, but why? Why was a goddess so interested in him? Those questions made his heart thump, but he was with Lila, so he had to bury these ridiculous thoughts. Otherwise, they'd take over his heart and make him her's for the rest of his days. If only he knew how hopeless it was to resist what Elsa's mere presence had ignited in him.
When his heart was broken and Elsa came to comfort him, it was then he remembered her from long ago. How it filled him with joy to see the same person standing before him demanding he be her date to the Queen's Ball. The need to be her friend from years ago mixed with his newly discovered feelings for Elsa had become something he didn't expect, something he couldn't deny. With each passing hour of the event, that which he felt only grew and grew until he finally surrendered to Elsa and kissed her lips beneath the willow tree.
That kiss sealed his fate, the memory reminding him that he belonged to her and no one else. Since he wasn't working, he had to look for other things to do to preoccupy his hyperactive body and distract him from the goddess who conquered and slain him without mercy when she kissed
him back with the same passion that ruled his heart.
The more he thought about how he felt for Elsa, the more painful the ache in his heart became. He needed a way to vent what he was feeling in order to hopefully reclaim his sanity and focus. Before him was a painting kit that belonged to his father, who was one of the royal painters of the former king and queen of Arendelle. He had a homemade wooden stand to place his canvas on. He purchased more paint and new brushes since his father's old ones were rendered unusable due to the cold long winter. Earlier in Donovan's life, his father ran out of paint and was forced to put away his passion since the Duke ruined all trade and wouldn't do a thing for the people he wanted to rule. His mother held onto his father's things for sentimental reasons and Donovan was glad she did. Since Arendelle was restored, Donovan used his father's painting gear when he wasn't busy as a way to remember his father who had died of pneumonia five years ago.
With a stick of graphite, Donovan sketched the only subject his mind would allow. Elsa. After he laid down the portrait sketch of Elsa posing by leaning on one of her hands in a graceful manner and slowly brought life to the painting with the gradually increasing detail, his heart ached even more, longing to see her again. He blinked back his tears and sighed heavily, "Face it, Donovan. You crossed a line and scared her away. You're never going to see her again." The pain he felt from her absence was crippling.
Little did he know that the sole desire of his heart was secretly standing right behind him, watching. She was amazed at the detail he captured in his painting of her, but she bit her bottom lip again as she turned her eyes to him nervously. She could feel his guilt, his pain, and how much he wanted to see her again. She was an all-powerful goddess, yet the pure love erupting from the depths of his heart had such an impact on her that it rendered her speechless and powerfully nervous. She had to say something. She uncloaked herself slowly, working up the courage to just speak again. Just compliment the painting. "I- I like your painting, Donovan."
Donovan was startled by her voice that he jumped off his seat and almost knocked the painting over. "Elsa?! It's you! You're here!" He quickly realized she could see his painting of her and his face turned very red as he quickly covered it with a sheet, "No, don't look!" He stood in the way with his chest facing her and arms spread. She had to contain an urge to laugh seeing how embarrassed he looked in the face which was red like a ripe tomato.
She smiled more before wrapping her arms around his body and snuggling close to his chest where she could feel his already excited heart beat race even faster from her physical contact. She could even hear his thoughts panicking. Oh, God, help me! She's hugging me! She's hugging me! Just hug her back. Donovan's shaky arms found their way around her, but him hugging her back only made his mental meltdown even worse. This can't be real! This just a figment of my imagination! That's right! I miss Elsa so much; I'm imagining she's here. That's the only explanation. There's no way she could be this soft. So…soft. I want to hold her forever.
Elsa giggled in his chest, causing him to remember again that she could read minds and became embarrassed, "I, uh!"
Elsa laughed more, not letting go. I missed you too, Donovan.
Donovan's heart began to beat harder, threatening to come out of his chest, realizing that it was truly her. Elsa took pity on him and pulled away, wishing she didn't have to. She uncovered the painting to examine it more. The detail was so realistic. "Your attention to detail is breathtaking."
"I could never forget you," Donovan spoke gently and she turned against him to look in his eyes. His gentle, brown eyes glanced down at her perfectly soft and inviting lips. His desire to taste her lips again immediately became wild within him. That wild desire was immediately snuffed out by guilt, causing him to quickly and awkwardly take two steps back from her to respect her space.
"Donovan? What are you doing?" Elsa asked.
Donovan looked away in hopes to compose himself. Elsa then felt his guilt for kissing her and she remembered that Anna told him all about Jack. He was torn inside. He wanted to desperately hold her in his arms and kiss her again, yet at the same time was denying himself that want out of shame he crossed a line with her that he shouldn't have.
Elsa was moved by how he felt and smiled before walking into his space with a confident smile on her face and a sensual sway of her hips. Again, he moved to remain a respectful distance from her. "You don't have to do that, Donovan."
Donovan replied back nervously, "I don't know what you're talking about. Do what, Elsa?"
Her smile faded into concern as she specified, "Feel guilty about loving me."
Donovan was silent before looking down. "But I do. I got too bold when I kissed you. Queen Anna told me about Jack. That was why you disappeared and took off like that."
He glanced up at Elsa who nodded. Elsa came into his space again, "There was nothing wrong with you kissing me. I- I liked it…very much. The problem was with me. My heart was still devoted to Jack, but I lost Jack a long, long time ago. I couldn't truly let him go in my heart. I had to confront that. As much as I love Jack, I had to let him go and move on. It was the only way I could heal…" Elsa looked into his eyes as she whispered, "…and dare to love another again."
Donovan was surprised by the sudden taste of her perfect lips kissing his with a hungry passion and tenderness. Donovan's guilt and shame fade away due to the taste of her lips. Her desire to be with him emboldened him to hold her in his arms and kiss her back. The special kiss they were sharing was even greater than the one they shared the night of the Ball, because this time nothing was holding them back as they kissed each other with sincerity. Gradually, their grips on each other softened and their kisses slowed. When their lips finally disconnected, Donovan was so overwhelmed that he fell to the ground from dizziness.
"Donovan?!" Elsa exclaimed, quickly kneeling by him on the ground as he tried to control his breathing. She caressed his face with one of her hands. "Donovan, talk to me!"
"That- That was- So amazing," he said in between breaths with a very happy smile.
Elsa smirked down at him and asked with a tease, "You think you'll make it?"
His longing eyes looked at her again before he sat up suddenly and held her hand gently, "I want to introduce you to my family!"
Elsa was startled by this, "Your- Your family?"
Donovan nodded eagerly, "Please?"
The way he said that like a child begging for a new toy made Elsa laugh with amusement as she pulled away and took a few steps back from him to process his sudden request. "I think you need to slow it down a bit, Donovan."
Suddenly, Elsa screamed, startled by Donovan wrapping his arms around the top of her thighs and lifting her in the air. "Donovan!"
He looked up at her with a smile as he held her like that. "Please? With two scoops of chocolate ice cream on top and a big cherry?"
Elsa blushed as she giggled, "What?"
"My family will love you, Elsa," Donovan assured her, "I know I do."
That caught her attention, making her eyes widen. "What did you just say?"
Donovan just stared at her clueless until it finally dawned on him what he just said. His face went red and he slowly put her back down before taking a step back. Elsa smiled at him warmly and slowly approached him as he stuttered with his words, "I- I uh- I meant-I meant who could hate you? People like you- and I really don't hate you- I-"
Elsa shushed him by placing a single finger on his lips. "I would love to meet your family, Donovan." Donovan got excited so Elsa finished, "But not right away. I'd like to do something with you and spend more time with you before we visit with your family. Do you understand?"
Donovan nodded, "What should we do?"
"Where's your favorite place to go when you're not working?" Elsa asked. If they're going to do something together, then she felt strongly that it should be something he enjoys.
Donovan looked away to think, "Well, usually my family, but other than that-" His stomach growled loudly. A smile came on his face before looking back at Elsa, "A place with lots of grub." He took her hand and took off. They stopped at a small eating place and Donovan smiled at Elsa, "I can't recall ever seeing you eat something. Did you have anything to eat this morning?"
Elsa still hadn't revealed to him what it meant being a divine being. Among the many differences that set her apart from human, one was that she didn't require food or drink. "I uh-"
Donovan's eyes widened, "You haven't eaten yet? Don't worry, I'll get you something. Come on."
Elsa just went with it, but noticed there was a crowd of people in it. Donovan guided her to a spot pointed out by a waiter. Donovan's eyes widened when he turns to see a different woman. This woman had dark hair dark eyes and a different face from Elsa's. She gave him a nod. "Elsa? Is that you?"
Yes, it's me. I just felt I should disguise myself. I didn't want anyone interrupting my time with you, Elsa's voice replied in his head. Her explanation brought a smile to his face. She wanted to focus on him and not be distracted by anyone who recognized her. Also, don't call me Elsa here.
What should I call you then? Donovan asked in his mind as he pulled out her chair and scooted her closer once she sat.He sat beside her.
Elsa thought for a moment before smiling, Call me Idina.
"Idina?" Donovan asked. He examined Elsa's new appearance. Lips were fuller. Her dark brown hair looked like it had some curls in it. It felt strangely specific, like it meant something to her. "El- I mean, Idina? If you don't mind me asking- Why this appearance?"
Elsa looked at him with a hint of concern in her new disguise. "Do you not like it?"
"No, it's that. You're very beautiful. I was just wondering if you had a reason why you chose that appearance," Donovan specified.
"I guess I chose this appearance because it just felt right. Let's just say it's the appearance of someone I knew well for years," Elsa replied with a warm smile.
Donovan just smiled before the waiter came over with menus for each of them. Elsa was completely lost on what she should get. Tell him! He'll understand.
Donovan noticed her distressed expression as she scanned her menu, "You okay?"
Elsa looked at him, then put down the menu so she could explain, I'm a goddess, Donovan and as a goddess, there are certain things I should tell you. I hope you don't get mad.
Of course, I won't get mad, Donovan smiled.
I do not require food like mortals do. As a goddess, I am self-sufficient. I require no sleep or sustenance at all.
She looked at him again and became shocked to see his eyes wide. "That's awesome, E- Idina! You don't-"
Keep it down, Donovan, Elsa raised her hands to gesture to him to calm down. She had an amused and surprised smile on her face. This was not the reaction she had in mind. He looked interested.
"I have so many questions, Idina," Donovan said, scooting closer to her eagerly.
And I will answer any and all questions you have, Elsa replied in his mind as calmly as she could, trying to process his unexpected reaction. Since we are in public, we have to be careful of being overheard. Okay? I can still eat, but my body has no need of the nutrients. I don't know what to pick. What do you recommend?
Donovan scooted closer to point out the different choices. He wasn't sure what she'd like. Everyone has a favorite kind of meal that they'd prefer. Steak and potatoes. Pasta. Fruit. Salads. Sweets. Sandwiches. He could tell what a person liked once he got to know them, but since Elsa never required food to survive like he did, that would make things more difficult.
Elsa making a choice was so difficult for her. When she made those special meals for Anna while raising her on Ahtohallan, she just ate whatever meal she prepared because Anna ate it. Not because she liked it, except a few. It was a pleasant experience for Elsa to try human meals with Anna. One time they made sandwiches and Anna taught her how to make the most perfect sandwich and Elsa was surprised she liked it. Eventually, Elsa finally decided on one of the many choices. It only took her a whole hour and seven visits from the waiter to take their order. Donovan wouldn't order anything until Elsa made a decision and he was the one who was the hungriest.
The waiter, Mrs. Hawkins, returned from the kitchen with their meals. "For you sir, the ribeye steak with a baked potato and green beans. For you, miss, the triple chocolate layer cake. If you need anything else, let me know. Enjoy."
Donovan just watches Elsa smile before taking a bite before her eyes widened and she wolfed down more. This made him chuckle, earning a look from the brunette beauty beside him. Then a question came to him regarding her and food. Elsa? If you're body doesn't require food, then…what happens to the food after you swallow? You know what happens to food when humans eat.
Elsa stopped chewing her delicious and rich chocolate cake before giving him a disgusted look. "Donovan, please! I'm trying to enjoy my cake!"
"I'm sorry. Ignore what I said," Donovan smiled before enjoying his meal.
Elsa tried to take another bite but his questioned ruined her mood. There was no way she could take a bite of her chocolate cake. "I can't eat this now."
Donovan couldn't help but chuckle, "Oh, you poor thing."
Elsa gave him a scowl; YOU are a TERRIBLE human being! Depriving me of the most glorious human treat in the world! You will suffer my wrath! She was startled when he fed her some of his steak.
"Have some of mine then," Donovan smiled, presenting a spoon of his baked potato.
She just looked at his eyes and her anger melted away from his happy gaze. She accepted the bite and she found the taste of his baked potato interesting. The potato. The butter. The white cream on top and the bits of bacon. You are pardoned of your transgression…for now. I will delay your punishment to another more suitable time.
"As you say, my Queen," Donovan smiled after picking up her hand and placing a peck on the top of her hand.
She didn't like him using his charm to diffuse her anger. She was still upset about him ruining her appetite. But there is a way you can avoid punishment.
"What's that?"
Elsa smiled and arched her eyebrow. Bribe me with chocolate and I MAY forget how who wronged me today.
"Deal. I'm going to go pay for our meals. I'll be right back," Donovan replied before leaving Elsa alone at their table. During their long stay at the eating place, Elsa was surprised by how the crowd changed. She didn't realize when someone left and was replaced by someone else. Like the table next to where she and Donovan sat was filled with young teenagers.
What they were talking about caught her attention. They were talking about her. Her wiping out the Duke and his forces. Her creating an Ice Palace on the North Mountain. Her appearing in the streets and being swarmed by people. Their most interested topic that evening was Elsa protecting her date from a bully.
"I was there. You should've seen it. This snob comes over and starts bothering her, right? She's clearly uncomfortable and starts to walk away but this pig has the audacity to grab her wrist. Anyway, her date comes over to defend her and punches the guy's tooth out! WHAM!" a spirited teen with dark hair tells the story so well that Elsa smiles as she listens. "The guy gets pissed and starts beating him up in front of everybody. Elsa gets in the way of the bully and her eyes start glowing bright white and the bully cowers before her. The dang Queen had to stop the fight. I wanted to see what Elsa was going to do to him."
Elsa giggled to herself, Oh, Anna. If only you could be here now.
"Wow! What a woman! Now that is a woman I would like to know if you know what I mean," another teen joked crudely. Elsa cringed at that and the others all told him she would've turned him to a bug if he tried anything. You got that right, Elsa silently agreed.
Out of the four, the youngest of the group, was a young teenage girl who had auburn hair and green eyes. "You are so lucky. My parents wouldn't let me go to the Ball. I just wanted to see Elsa. Everybody else have seen her, except me. It's not fair. I feel so left out."
Elsa too pity on this pour girl. While the other teenagers were distracted, she used her divine powers to draw the young teenager's eyes to her and she briefly unveiled her true appearance so the girl could see her. The girl's face lit up with excitement and was about to say something, but held her tongue when Elsa shook her head and held a finger to her own mouth and smiled. The girl nodded when she understood. Elsa then communicated with her.
What's your name?
Kate.
What a pretty name. Tell me, Kate. What is your favorite animal in the whole world?
I like horses.
I have a horse. He has a bit of an attitude but I suspect his attitude will be better when I see him again. You really like horses?
The girl nodded eagerly.
Elsa pointed to her own palm. When the girl looked down at her open hand in her lap, a small figure of a majestic horse made of wood appeared. She lit up and again and looked up at Elsa, Thank you, Elsa.
Elsa watched with a smile as the girl left with her friends. Donovan returned with a new piece of cake, surprising Elsa. "I promise no more questions of that nature, but I do have other questions about your divinity."
"Ask away," she invited with a smile before slowly enjoying her new piece of chocolate cake.
"Just what can you do? How do you do it?" Donovan began asking.
"You may hear I'm all powerful, but that's not exactly true. There are a couple of things even I can't do. I can't mess with the flow of time and I can't resurrect someone if their spirit has already passed beyond my reach. Those were the only rules on powers established by my father when he created me. Anything else is possible if I merely assert my will. I imagine it and it happens."
Outside the eating place, Michael hid in the shadows across the street with several men. "When they come out, you are to kill them both. Then and ONLY then will you get paid."
"Donovan won't be a problem, but the goddess-" one spoke up.
"She's no goddess. Everyone is deceived by Elsa's tricks except me. She's just a cheap conjurer of tricks begging for money and attention. Nothing more," Michael hissed.
Back inside, Elsa beamed at Donovan as they discussed her powers. She couldn't help but find his interest cute. He would ask if she could do THIS or THAT and she would be happy to demonstrate her powers for him, but in a subtle way so no one else would notice except him.
She waved her hand over the space in front of him and created random things like a new meal, a tool, a coin, whatever. "Wow," escapes Donovan's lips.
"You already know I can read minds. Take my hand," Elsa instructs and Donovan is only happy to do so. He suddenly hears others thoughts around them. Random thoughts filled with complaining, plans for the day, etc.
"I can even control the weather, but I don't make it a habit since it's a natural order of the planet to take care of itself. I try not to interfere with that much," Elsa shared.
"Yeah, right," Donovan laughed, "There's no way."
"Challenge accepted," Elsa smiled smugly before snapping her fingers and it suddenly began to rain on the poor people outside, causing chaos to fill the streets as people ran for shelter. Donovan and Elsa both laughed silently hearing angry complaints outside.
"Where the hell did all this godforsaken rain come from?!"
Donovan laughed, "You better bring back the sun for their sake, Elsa."
Elsa snapped her fingers, the rain stopped and the sun began to shine. Her heart felt warm and heavy seeing how he smiled when she did this. "You really find this all so fascinating, don't you?"
He looked at her, "Yes."
Elsa blushed seeing how impressed he was with her, "Well…I'll demonstrate my powers for you anytime, Donovan."
Donovan's eyes widened, "Elsa, your disguise."
Elsa looked at a nearby mirror and saw she unconsciously reverted to her true form. She looked when others around them began to whisper.
"I can't believe it. Is that the Goddess Elsa?"
"It is. It's really her. Elsa."
"What's the witch doing here?"
Elsa calmly stood and voided their eyes, "Donovan, let's go."
"Hn- Right," Donovan followed her out. When he got close enough, she wrapped her arms around his and acted like she was scared.
"Please, Donovan. Escort me to the palace," she requested with her head down.
Donovan was looking forward to introducing her to his family, but that would have to wait. Elsa was scared right now from all the attention. He could tell from how tense her body looked and the slight shaking. "Okay, let's get you home."
The people in the streets all looked shocked when they came out. Upon the many eyes there were several eyes with malicious intent that stalked their targets as they walked down the street. Each had knives concealed on their person, which they slowly began to draw. Donovan was an easy kill, but some of them were weary of Elsa. Michael assured them she was no goddess, just a witch and a witch could bleed just like the rest of them. However, a fear lingered in the corner of their minds. What if he was wrong? Would any of them survive if Elsa was angered? One began to work his way through the crowd.
Elsa tensed even more, not because of the anxiety of having everyone looking at her, it was alarm. She could sense bloodlust. An intent to kill was thick in the air. She couldn't focus on where it was coming from due to her already anxious mind. Her head turned frantically, scanning faces.
"Hey, you'll be okay, Elsa," Donovan whispered while giving her arm a gentle squeeze. "I promise. We're almost to the Royal Palace. We just need to get through the Market Square."
Elsa panicked looking at how busy the Market Square was. With each passing second, the danger she felt was growing. Either the threat was within the Market Square or it was around her and Donovan and was closing in on them.
Michael began to shake with anticipation and hatred. Donovan made a fool out of him in front of the other guests at the Ball. He was going to make him suffer for it. He was going to make Elsa suffer too for waving him off as some insignificant insect that was far below her. The closer they got to his hiding spot, the more impatient he became. His eager eyes looked at the other spots where the others he hired were hiding. They were moving in as well. He smiled, Perfect.
He told his father what had happened and his plan to get revenge for what these two did. He remembered his father's advice, Hire others to do the dirty work. Don't get involved. That way you can claim innocence and there will be no blood on your hands.
What was Michael's reply to his father's advice? No, Father. They tarnished my reputation. They made it personal and I'm going to personally make them regret it.
It happened so fast, but Elsa's perception was faster. Her eyes widened seeing several men with knives all rushing them. Donovan was going to be stabbed to death first so Elsa used her divine strength to push him out of the way, over by other civilians where he would be safe.
Donovan's grunted when he hit the ground and looked back at Elsa with horror as he watches several armed men close in on her immediately and bring down their knives on her. "ELSA!"
Everyone of them made a stab at the witch. Instead of seeing blood erupt from her pale, frail looking body, Michael and the others became terrified when their knives shattered like frail glass against her body. Michael wasn't going to be denied his satisfaction and he punched Elsa in the face as hard as he could but every bone in his hand shattered beyond repair. He fell to the ground in pain, letting out a bloodcurdling scream from it. The others just stood there in fear at what happened to Michael.
There was a sudden pressure in the air that was almost suffocating. Elsa was very angry. This they knew well when they saw the fiercest scowl and her eyes glowed so bright it blinded them permanently. At superhuman speed, she ran around Michael, dealing painful punishment to each of the attackers. A blow to the head. A broken arm. Broken legs. Being thrown into the air and landing on the ground unconscious. Finally, it was Michael's turn. He shook as Elsa glared at him and slowly walked towards as he tried to crawl away on the ground.
"What are you?" Michael demanded. "You're just a witch!"
"I. Am. No. Witch," Elsa hissed through her perfectly white teeth.
"You liar! You claim to be some divine goddess?!" Michael asked.
"I! AM!" Elsa raised her voice. After being free of Pitch forever, Elsa hoped she would never know such anger again, but somehow an arrogant and wicked mortal was able to provoke her to such wrath. They were going to harm Donovan. Someone very dear to me. How could I not be angry?
She was much closer to Michael. Donovan was scared by the wrath on her face. This wasn't the Elsa he knew. He had to stop this. Sensing his fear, Elsa looks at him with normal eyes. "Donovan. These men tried to kill you. What do you want me to do with them?"
Donovan was stunned with silence, shocked by her question. Was Elsa really asking him to decide their fate. Elsa was cold and regal on the outside, but inside she was desperate for deliverance from her anger. If he chose vengeance against them, she would respect his verdict, but didn't want to. She thought to herself, Please, Donovan. Stop me.
Donovan went over to her to try to calm her, but an old man dressed in fine clothes comes out of the crowd. "Get away from my son, you filthy commoners! Harm my son and you'll regret the day you were ever born, witch!"
Elsa's anger spiked. With the wave of her hand, his rich attire became nothing but rags. His home was gone all that remained was a grass field of grass. "Mind your tongue, human."
"What have you done to me?!" Michael's father demanded after he fell to his hands and knees.
"I am going to humble you. I stripped you of your wealth, your mansion and your elite attire. You will live out your days as a beggar while the beggars struggling in this kingdom have an equal share in your wealth and will be exalted from their lowly positions. This is the fate of you and your entire family," Elsa declared with judgment, which shocked the crowd. "However," she turned her attention back to Michael who was dressed in rags as well. "Your Son has transgressed against someone I love…not once! Not twice, but thrice! So Donovan will decide his fate."
Michael's father trembled with fear for his first born. "No! Please, young man, have mercy! My firstborn-!"
Donovan's eyes glistened with tears. He quickly caressed Elsa's face with his trembling hands and looked into her angry eyes. "Elsa, please- If you really love me, please spare Michael and his family."
There was no anger in his eyes, no desire for revenge, only forgiveness and mercy.
Elsa exhales and smiles. The pressure in the air that was caused by her anger vanished. Elsa reached up to gently rub his hands on her face with her fingers. "Thank you, Donovan."
Donovan looked confused by this. Elsa looked back at Michael and with a thought, the injuries of Michael and all his underlings were healed. "You're lucky. I was planning on keeping you as an ice statue to decorate the Market Square. I will spare you and your family, but I will not restore your wealth. Time as a commoner will teach your whole family some much needed humility."
Elsa and Donovan began to leave as the crowd began to leave as well. Donovan was following Elsa, but stopped when he saw a frightened Lila in the crowd. Their eyes met. She didn't have to say a thing. She had regret and remorse for everything. What she did to him, what she said about Elsa and for being so foolish to be manipulated by Michael. She looked like she wanted to say just that but he looked away and kept following Elsa nervously.
Word quickly spread about the confrontation between Elsa and one of the richest families in Arendelle. No one ever saw Elsa as a lying witch after that, because have seen and now believed that she was truly a powerful being of the divine. However, Elsa reducing one of the richest families to that of beggars, caused a serious issue in the economy of the kingdom, one that Queen Anna would be forced to figure out how to fix. When word came to the Queen, Anna summoned both Elsa and Donovan to the throne room.
Queen Anna sat on her mother's throne beside her father's empty one, fuming with anger over Elsa's actions on the economy of the kingdom. "Do you have any idea what you've done, Elsa?!"
Elsa was chill and calm but Donovan was super nervous and looking down as they stood before the throne, facing the judgement of Queen Anna. "I spared a family instead of vaporizing them. That's what I think I did."
Elsa turned redder with anger as she stormed towards Elsa. "The House of Anderson was one of the richest families in Arendelle and played a big part in agriculture! Agriculture is the life blood of Arendelle, Elsa! They oversee crops, livestock…the whole shebang! Without their wealth, the economy will become unstable! What did you do with the wealth of their House?!"
"I gave it to the needy in this kingdom and those who worked under the House of Anderson. They will be financially set for quite some time. If you are still worried about the economy becoming unstable, then," Elsa waved her hand to the left of the room and instantly created several chests of Gold and Silver coin.
Elsa saw how surprised Anna was and found it cute when Anna came to her senses and just shrugged it off, "That's your solution?! Magically create more coin and hope the problem goes away? Do you think being a goddess gives you permission to mess with my kingdom and get away with it?!"
"Well, yes," Elsa smugly replied, just to tick Anna off. She still loved to get a rise out of her once in a while.
Donovan thought he was going to faint hearing Elsa speak to Anna like that. Queen Anna looks like she's going to pop. Elsa, stop provoking Queen Anna. She's very upset.
Elsa heard Donovan's begging and took Anna's hand, "I'll always be here for Arendelle, for you, Anna. I'll help keep the kingdom from crumbling. You have my word." She said this with a smile and a warm, soothing soft voice.
Anna ripped her hand away and walked away with her nose in the air, "Good! Because you are forbidden from ever leaving the kingdom! Ever! You are my prisoner!"
"Whatever you say, Anna," Elsa giggled.
"You, hush! I'm so riled now, thanks to you! I need some chocolate," Anna retorted as she left the throne room.
Elsa giggled again with her eyes on the large door before glancing back at Donovan who looked like he was still nervous and scared. He's been like that since before they were summoned from their spot in the garden, beneath the willow tree. "Don't worry, Donovan. It's not like we froze the kingdom for 10 years again," she laughed, hoping it'll calm his nerves.
It worked a little. Donovan smiled lightly but still looked bothered. There was guilt? Was he still shaken by the incident earlier? "Donovan? What's wrong?" Elsa asked after placing a hand on his shoulder. "Nothing, Elsa," he forced a smile, but she wasn't fooled.
He was tormenting himself over calling her a witch when she tried to prevent him from seeing Lila cheating on him. Elsa became worried. She didn't hold that against him since she already forgot all about it, but Donovan clearly didn't. She had an idea to make him feel better. "Is there a place in Arendelle you've always wanted to see?"
Donovan's face lit up a bit when he thought of a place. "The North Mountain. I heard from mountain climbers that you can see Arendelle from the top. It's been by dream ever since I was a kid."
Elsa smiled and guided him outside by the hand before coming to a halt. "Are you ready?"
Donovan looked hesitant. "Ready for what?"
Elsa looked in the sky and briefly raised her hands in the air cheerfully calling, "GALE! I NEED YOU!"
Donovan looked confused before something invisible greeted them excitedly, "WHAT THE-!" It twirled around me affectionately. His reaction made Elsa giggle.
"Donovan. Meet Gale. She's a wind spirit and one of my closest friends. Gale, meet my boyfriend, Donovan," Elsa introduced the two to each other before standing on Donovan's boots with her bare feet and hugged him firmly before exclaiming cheerfully, "Hold tight! Take us to the North Mountain, Gale!"
Donovan held onto Elsa for dear life and yelled as Gale picked up the two and flew them to the destination and sat them on their feet. Elsa giggled as she looked up and saw Donovan's hair was all messed up and he was still holding her tightly with his eyes shut. "Open your eyes."
What Donovan saw was beautiful. The sun was setting. The mountain side looked beautiful and down below, he saw Arendelle, which was much smaller than he expected. "Wow, It's beautiful."
Elsa smiled with a blush before looking at the sunset. Donovan glanced at her, taking in how beautiful Elsa looked with her smile, her blue eyes, and her free blond hair waving in the wind. His smile faded and she could feel his guilt returning. He faced her and took her hands, "Elsa? I'm-"
"Sorry for calling me a witch?" Elsa finished and he turned red from shame. "I forgive you."
"That's it?" Donovan asked.
"That's it," Elsa nodded with a giggle.
"No. You can't let me off the hook that easily. I have to do something to earn your forgiveness," Donovan insisted, "I need to be punished."
Elsa had a mischievous idea, but masked it perfectly with a cold, regal demeanor as she pulled away and stood straight and tall, "Very well, Donovan. If that is your wish. Here is your punishment. Close your eyes for your punishment."
Fear spiked in his heart. He gulped before closing his eyes. Elsa had to quickly cover her mouth when the urge to laugh hit her. Her poor boyfriend was standing there in total fear with his eyes closed. I've let him sweat long enough, Elsa smiled and arched an eyebrow while she formed a snow ball in her hand. "Open your eyes."
Just as he looked her way, a snowball to his face caused him to fly onto his back and look at her with surprise as she laughed loudly at him. "You've should've seen yourself trembling like a leaf."
Elsa screamed with surprise as Donovan tackled her to the ground. They just stared into each other's eyes. She could see he longed for her and desire was starting to fill him. "Elsa? Do you-? I man- Can we-?"
Elsa pulled him down by the collar of his uniform into her lips. They continued to kiss as the sun disappeared beyond the horizon.
