Warriors of a Feather, Stick Together

Were Mistakes Made?

Revali sat at the inn, he was upset and frustrated but he didn't want to show it. It was a lot like being in a storm of snow and ice, cold and unrelenting. He should have never gotten his hopes up, perhaps future Prince Sidon had been wrong about Link. Perchance he had been wrong about the hylian male, maybe he wasn't into males as Revali had once thought. He usually thought of himself as a great judge of character but obviously he was wrong. How could he believe in a hope, even for a moment and then Link's words came back to him.

"..I.. I hadn't forgotten any of it, I knew what had happened." those words had stung but there was something else that had allowed him a glimmer of a hope. "..Then I find out from future Sidon, that he and I were a couple and had a child.. A child!" He shook his head, it wasn't meant to be, couldn't be meant to be. He was doomed to remain a lone rito warrior, with no mate to stand beside him. Or at least that he couldn't have the mate he wanted, standing at his side. "You impress me." Those words taunted him, why would Link even say those words? Why would the Hylian give him false hope?

It wasn't long before he started to feel that he had had just a little bit too much to drink, the innkeeper had even noticed and told him no more. He stumbled his way out of the inn and looked around, the décor was still being set up around the village. He wondered if maybe they had started a bit late but couldn't stay focused on it, as he continued on his way. He wasn't really certain if he would make it all the way back to his roost. He stopped a few times to reorient himself before pushing forward, he was really, really drunk. Maybe drinking had been a mistake but didn't he deserve to drink?

His clouded thoughts, told him it was a great idea but his stomach had said otherwise. Rito could handle quite a bit but being drunk, was not really one of the things they handled well. Revali was relieved when he finally reached his roost, he was also relieved that he hadn't thrown up along the way. Revali stumbled into his roost and fell back onto his nest, what was he going to do now? No mate to chase after, no real reason to get up and even try anymore. He was tailspinning and couldn't stop, it hurt and it upset him. Why had he even tried to begin with? Why had he tried, when it would hurt this much?

"Revali?" It was Link. He found himself sitting up, in his surprise, his head swimming in response to the sudden movement.

"What?" he asked, he couldn't help but be a little standoffish. He didn't want this to hurt more, or at least not anymore than it already did.

"I want to apologize, for earlier," Link began. He wanted to close it out but found he couldn't. "I'm just not sure where I stand yet." He watched as Link stepped inside and came closer. "I'm confused, I don't really know what to think about all of this. Or about future Sidon's words, yet I'm considering.. well this. Us. I just need a little bit of time to sort out how I feel, that's all I meant, I didn't mean to upset you." Revali sighed, was that really what Link was thinking about? Hylians had a way of lying but somehow he knew that Link was being honest. "..You think of me as a.." those words suddenly came back to him, it was only now he was realizing a grave mistake. Hylians were not always the manliest but they often thought of themselves as being strictly male. Link was turning to leave, he nearly panicked at this.

"Wait," he nearly shouted. Link stopped and Revali breathed a bit, before saying the next part. "When I was talking 'bout rito rituals, about how males and females court. There aren't always just males and females, there is a story about a male rito who courted another male. In this case it doesn't matter which role the two males play, but one rito male would start the courting. I wasn't referring to you in a feminine sense." He cringed inwardly at this, why did alcohol always have this weird effect on him? "I was thinking of it in a cultural stand point only, because I am the one wanting to mate with you. Therefore, I feel I should be doing the courting."

He watched as Link's ears and face turned an interesting shade of red, he was slightly worried he that he may have stressed Link a little. Or maybe the hylian was excited, then again he had often seen female hylian's blush like that when they were complimented. Link did look as though he might flee again and he definitely did not want that. He couldn't stand the thought of Link sleeping in a nest at the inn, where so many other's had slept before him. And though it was not proper to be nesting with him this early, he couldn't think of anything else that he should do in this instance. It's not like Link had his own nest here, still he couldn't stand the thought of another's scent on his potential mate.

"Please, stay here," Revali said, standing against his better judgment and stumbling a little. He was surprised when he didn't completely collapse on the ground, he heard a slightly strained grunt and realized Link had stopped his fall. He was soon laid back into his nest, with Link gasping a bit for air over him.

"Why don't you want me.. staying at the inn?" Link gasped, as he was catching his breath. "What exactly is wrong with it?" The obvious confusion was a reminder that Hylians, though fascinating in their own rituals, didn't really understand other races.

"Because," Revali began but paused, trying to think better of telling the other. Honestly though there was no better way to tell the other male, that the nests at the inn would spread the scent of other's onto him. "I don't want the scent of others on you. So many other hylians and other races have slept in the inn nests." He pulled Link into the nest with him, he was slightly surprised when Link didn't seem to resist.

"So you were just jealous?" Link asked. He didn't want to continue talking about it, despite how close that assumption hit on the actual truth.

"If you had your own nest here, it would be different," Revali groused, he was slowly drifting off. But as he did, he felt the Hylian running his finger's through his feathers and enjoyed the pleasant sensation. Maybe he should set up a nest just for Link, but that could be a worry for another day. He relaxed more, just feeling the pleasant attention he was receiving from his potential mate. Though pleasant, it was also making him drift farther and farther into the land of dreams.

Revali wasn't precisely sure where he was, it looked like Vah Medoh but he was surrounded by cute little chicks. They were all newly hatched and had lots of baby fluff, he couldn't help but smile as he lifted two of them up. He watched as Link picked one of them up as well and snuggled with the little one. Revali felt both happy and proud but he wasn't entirely sure why. What he did know was that he wanted this to last, for a very long time. In fact, he almost wanted this to be a reality but surely something like this couldn't be even remotely possible. He snuggled with each chick before bringing them to the nest settling them in, Link then placed the chick in his arms in the nest as well, before they both covered the young ones in warm furs. Revali watched them sleep for the longest time, studying their color and markings, memorizing them even. And even as everything else eventually faded away, he would always remember them and what they looked like.
