Warriors of a Feather, Stick Together

Heading Home!

=~;~=

He smiled as he felt the wind rushing through his hair, they were heading home. Or maybe they were already home, he wasn't really sure because technically their nest was in Vah Medoh. He looked over at Revali, the other male had his eyes closed and seemed to be enjoying the wind as well. Link wanted to touch the rito but didn't want to disrupt his piloting. Link wondered what it would be like to be a rito, what was it really like to fly through the sky? He looked around at the golden hue of the sky and really tried to imagine it, soaring through the clouds. He hadn't realized he had stretched out his arms, until he felt feather's brush against his skin.

"What are you doing?" Revali asked, in an unusually soft tone. Link pulled his arms close to his body and heat rose in his ears and cheeks.

"I was just imagining.. It's silly," Link replied, lamely.

"Try me, I won't laugh," his rito said, in a serious tone.

"I was imagining what it would be like, to fly," Link admitted. He felt Revali pulling him closer and he relaxed into that embrace, it was nice being enveloped like this. He reached up running his fingers across the feather's at the other male's cheek, a soft gentle caress following the feathers themselves.

"It's well.. it is easy for me as I have my gale to keep me aloft," Revali mentioned. "It is quite difficult to fly without an updraft of some kind. Eventually, flapping constantly will tire us and we will have to land. It's why we fly over certain areas, like rocks that collect the sun's warmth and heat the air to create updraft's or even water which could give an updraft in the right condition's. Then sometimes the wind can also keep us aloft or lift us, if we use it properly."

"Oh, I thought it was just easy for rito," Link said.

"It's like any other kind of training," Revali explained. "If done enough and so long as we don't accidentally clip a feather, then we can make flying look effortless. Still it is enjoyable, despite being hard work sometimes. And using a bow in midair is also a challenge, I personally have to time it just right so that I can catch myself before the descent. Thankfully when I do use my bow, it's like everything slows down and I can shoot my targets then continue on."

"Like a heightened battle sense? I get that sometimes too," Link noted. "It's like your enemy is suddenly moving in slow motion but you are at normal speed. It usually only happens when I dodged a blade by a hair's breadth, is it like that?"

"Similar," Revali replied, with a nod.

"It doesn't last very long though," Link went on to say. "So I only have a moment to react and get as many hits on the enemy as possible, before everything goes back to normal."

"I see, it makes sense though," Revali said, he was a little surprised. "It is very similar to what I experience as well." Link smiled and nuzzled the other male, he couldn't help it with those soft feather's so close to him. "Are you cuddling me?"

"A little," Link replied. He heard a small coo and then Revali was nuzzling him back, he chuckled as a tremor went through the other male. And then he heard the shaking of feather's and wondered if the warrior had shook his tail as well. He didn't know nearly enough about rito body language but seeing the light blush just beneath the feathers, put everything together. Revali must be happy, he thought, smiling a bit.

"I was wondering, did Sidon from the future.. tell you where the Great Fairies reside?" Revali asked.

"No he didn't, all he said was that there were four, one in the desert, one in Tabantha, one in Akkala and one near a village," Link replied.

"Hmm, one is near us then? Or near Rito Village I mean," Revali said, more than asked. "I take it you do not know which village, unfortunate. Perhaps Impa might know of them but she is so secretive, especially with me."

"Can you blame her?" Link asked, gently.

"No," Revali answered. "I am not surprised, I wonder where her village is.. do you happen to know?" Link shook his head, he had never asked and she never said. Rito Village was finally in sight, it had been a long flight and had seemed longer than normal.

"Master Revali, we're departing," the other rito suddenly said, they were smiling. Link felt his face warm a bit, he was still not used to other's seeing them so close together but he wouldn't tell Revali that of course. Nor was he going to ruin this moment, for the other male.

"Very well, I will perch Vah Medoh, thank you for your assistance," Revali told them. They bowed their heads and flew off, it was quite something else to see a rito just take off and fly away. Still no other rito was quite as impressive as Revali, he nuzzled the warrior a bit enjoying the soft feather's as they brushed his face. "If you continue with this, cuddling, I might just get used it and expect it." Link chuckled at that, he didn't mind so long as the other male allowed it.

"Why do you ask about the Great Fairy?" Link asked, a little concerned.

"Just curious," Revali whispered. Link wasn't sure he liked the thought of Revali wanting to see the Great Fairy, did that mean the other male wanted to have children with him? The thought was a little terrifying and he wasn't sure he wanted that. How would that even work? They're both male after all and why was he thinking about it now? Link pulled away from Revali as he fretted the idea, he wasn't comfortable with the whole idea, that a future him had had a child to begin with. What was future Link even thinking when he had agreed to something like that? He had seen plenty of pregnant women who later lost their lives during childbirth, his mother had even.. He couldn't finish the thought. Link had been her death when he was born, what if that same thing happened to him? "Link what's wrong?" He swiped at a few tears before looking at Revali and shaking his head.

"It's nothing," Link said, turning away to look at the sky. Revali didn't say anything further and he was sort of grateful for that. He couldn't lay his own fears on Revali, not right now, it wouldn't be fair to him.

"Link, para-sail," Revali said. He turned, to try to ask Revali what he was planning but he was suddenly lifted a bit by a gust of wind. Link yelped and pulled out his para-sail, just in time. Soon he was way above Vah Medoh, he watched as the Divine beast was perched and then leveled out as he began gliding down. He landed beside Revali and was about tell the other off, when Revali spoke first. "Sorry. It was the only way I could think of to keep you safe, while I perched Vah Medoh." Link shut his mouth in an instant and smiled a bit at that, so the rito warrior wasn't playing a harsh trick on him.

"It's fine, I was just surprised," Link replied. "A little warning next time please." Revali suddenly wrapped him up in a tight hug and he almost wondered what was up.

"I'm sorry for upsetting you earlier, I won't ask about the Great Fairy again," Revali said. "It was a passing curiosity, nothing more."

"Revali I wasn't.. It wasn't about the Great Fairy," Link admitted. "I'm not.. ready to talk about it yet but I will, I just can't right now."

"I will wait for when you are ready then," Revali replied. He smiled at the other male before heading to the edge and gliding down to the tail. They hadn't even checked on the nest since their trip began, in fact this was the only time that Vah Medoh had had to land at such an extreme angle. He ran inside and looked over the whole thing, the net was still in place but some of the blankets had shifted and were now bunched together on one side of the nest. The little Revali toy was still tucked under the last blanket safe and sound. None of the nest pillows moved even an inch which made him super ecstatic. "I suppose this means Vah Medoh approves." He looked back to see that Revali wasn't even looking at the nest, Link walked over to peer where Revali was looking and gasped a bit. The bottom of the wood was encompassed by the same material that covered the Divine Beast. A sudden screech surprised both him and the rito warrior, who then smiled. Link too found himself smiling a bit.

"I guess so," Link said. He was glad that the Divine Beast, didn't mind them living within it. "We should untie the nest though, don't you think?"

"Oh, yes, of course," Revali replied, snapping out of his daze. With both of them working diligently, they managed to untie the nest and reposition it where it had been before. Revali left the ropes tied to the makeshift wall, explaining that they may need to be used in the future. They then worked on removing the net, which was fairly easy to do, Link then fixed the blankets and repositioned the toy. It was only then that he finally yawned, he was tired and one look at Revali told him the other male was too. The rito warrior had already hopped into the nest and was now patiently waiting for him. Link removed his clothing and boots, before joining the other male. He always found it to be much more comfortable to sleep naked, so he did so when he felt comfortable enough to do so.

He wasn't surprised one bit to find that Revali slept in a similar fashion, Link smiled and closed his eyes while Revali gently preened him a bit. It wasn't long before he fell asleep, entering the land of dreams.

He wasn't sure where he was but he definitely recognized the voice, he had a hard time hearing what was being said at first. It was as though they were very far away, was this a memory from when they faced the calamity together? The shrill yet sweet sound of a child laughing caught his attention and he sat up. Except he was already sitting up, which didn't make any sense.

"So Link you did say, there were four Great Fairies yes?" It was Prince Sidon, he looked over and a warm sensation crossed his chest. Link was confused by this, Sidon wasn't this old yet, was this the future?

"Yes," He replied, but he wasn't the one speaking. Yet it was his voice, he wanted to shake his head but couldn't. This was the weirdest dream yet but he felt like this had already happened. He watched as his hands pulled out the Shiekah Slate and opened the map feature. He pointed to one of the little stars on the map. "I marked them with stars so I wouldn't forget where to find them. I had traveled almost literally everywhere and happened on some of them by chance. Like this one in Tabantha, it's on a plateau that I climbed trying to get a better view of my surroundings."

"Wow!" Sidon replied. It was obvious he was amazed, Link looked at the Prince then and a strange unfamiliar feeling washed over him. It was the same feeling he felt whenever he looked at Revali. Was he seeing this from the alternate timeline, because his rito had asked about the Great Fairy? Or was it fate that he should learn this? He wasn't sure and he wasn't certain he wanted to find out, he just wanted to wake up. His heart leaped into his throat as Sidon kissed him and then the world shifted, melting away.
