Bella

I opened the door and there was a male vampire on my porch. I tried to hide behind the door.

"Are you Isabella Swan?" He asked.

I was going to die. "Yes," I said, my voice shaky. "Who are you?"

"I am Alec Volturi, you are to come with me."

"You're here to kill me?" I asked almost curiously.

"No, I'm here to take you back to Volterra where the Cullens will be put on trial for revealing our existence to a human," He said.

"I'll get my keys if that's okay?" I asked. "The first place everyone will look for me is at the Cullen house you know."

"I didn't think of that. I'll make a call and find out what we're supposed to do."

"Please, come in. If you stand on my porch it will draw attention from the neighbors."

"Thank you, Isabella," Alec said as he stepped just inside my house.

"Just Bella, please," I asked.

I tried to busy my mind and my body while he made his phone call. I looked around and then went to the living room. I couldn't resist getting into the old albums. I wanted a picture of my mom and Charlie. It took a while to find the right one but eventually, I found it. A picture of the three of us when I was first born. From there I went upstairs and looked around my room. Everything was changing so quickly. There was nothing I could do to prevent things. I might not even live through. All I could do was cooperate. Maybe I would be spared. Maybe I would be turned. Maybe I would live. No matter which way it went I couldn't fight one vampire let alone three.

"Bella," Alec called up the stairs.

"I'm coming," I said, and took one last look around the bedroom. I walked down the stairs feeling like I had gained a huge weight on my shoulders. Tears streamed down my face and I clutched my keys tight in my hand.

"Ah, Bella, don't cry." Alec comforted, "It's not all that bad. We're going to take your truck to the Cullens, but I'll take your truck and wreck it after I get you there. We'll set up your death. Do you mind if I drive?"

I just passed my keys to him and took my picture with me, leaving my home behind me.

The Cullen house came in to view all too soon. For once I didn't want to visit. I wanted to run and hide. But it was too late for that. It was too late for so many things. If I could go back in time I would have listened to Edward and ignored him. I was going to die.

My truck stopped at the patio and a strange vampire was standing there. "Go ahead Bella, that's Demetri. He'll protect you until I return." I got out of the truck and went up the stairs. My truck pulled away and I mourned the loss. I turned to watch it disappear back up the drive but I stumbled and fell. Of course, I started bleeding and froze.

Felix

I smelled the blood from upstairs and knew instantly. The girl was mine. I didn't even know her name but she was the one. My partner, my mate, my heart, she was it for me. The demon inside me roared and I ghosted down the stairs and out the door.

I crouched, ready to spring at Demetri, my Captain if he moved an inch closer to the girl.

"I'll just leave you with her, shall I?" Demetri asked me with a smirk and walked back inside.

"Mine," I growled at him. He just laughed as the door closed. I looked down at the girl, she was shaking. I realized she had no clue what had just happened and tried to calm myself. I forced myself to sit down beside her on the step instead of crouching above her.

"You're safe now," I told her in a calm voice. If I were alive my heart would have been pounding in my chest loud enough for all to hear.

"I'm, I'm bleeding," the girl said.

"I know, let us go inside and take care of that. Demetri and I will protect you from the family and you will be coming home with me."

"Um, you aren't going to eat me?" she asked and she looked up at me with beautiful chocolate eyes.

"I'm not going to eat you. I'm going to protect you, guard you, and love you," I vowed. That was when I realized that I had skipped a step. "I'm Felix, my lady. I'm your mate."

"I...I'm Bella, Felix it's nice to meet you. But how can I be your mate when Edward says I'm his."

My instincts screamed at me to take Bella and run back to Italy with her but I calmed myself. She wasn't refusing me, she was confused. "Let's go get that hand taken care of and I'll explain."

Bella nodded and stood. Demetri met us at the door and then Carlisle was beside us. I growled low and long but Carlisle just waited.

"I'm a doctor, Felix, let me care for her."

I thought about it for a half a second and then nodded. "I'm coming with you."

Carlisle smiled at Bella, "Let's see what you've done to yourself this time Bella." he said easily. She pulled up her sleeve and revealed the small cut on her wrist.

"It's not a big deal Carlisle, I just need a bandage and some water."

A growl echoed from upstairs and I realized it was Edward. Carlisle looked nervous and I directed Bella toward the kitchen sink while Carlisle went to fetch her a bandage.

When the blood was gone my tension eased slightly. Soon the small cut was bandaged and I found I was grateful for my Bella's apparent clumsiness.

"Demetri," Alice called and Demetri went up the stairs to speak with her.

Alec walked in the door and looked from me to Bella and back smiling widely when I crouched in front of her protectively. "It's done," Alec assured me and I knew Bella's truck was no more. Alec walked over slowly so as not to set off my instincts with my new mate.

Demetri came down the stairs again carrying a large suitcase quickly and approached. "Felix, take Bella in one of the SUVs. We will take one of the Cullen's cars back to the airport. Take her to Volterra immediately and send the plane back. Alice says her father is a police officer and will be here to notify the Cullens in a bit over an hour. Alice says this is for her."

Bella giggled. "Thanks, Alice," she said.

"Sure, Bella," Alice yelled from upstairs.

"Shall we go my lady?" I asked her and led her to the door, taking the suitcase in my other hand.

I guided her to the SUV in the back and put her suitcase in the back. Getting in, I smiled at Bella. We pulled out of the driveway, heading toward Port Angeles.

Bella

I felt like I was caught in a whirlwind, spinning this way and that. Not long ago I was deciding what to make for Charlie's dinner, now I was in an SUV with a very large, very attractive vampire who claimed to be my mate.

"Do you need to get food or anything before the flight? We'll be in the air for about thirteen hours. I'm afraid I don't know much of human needs anymore."

"Yes, please. If we could go through a drive-through somewhere along the way that would be very helpful."

"Relax, Bella, you're safe now. We're on our way back home to Italy and there is nothing for you to fear. You will eventually be changed and become one of us. Aro would never decide to hurt you now."

"Is there any way to save the Cullens, Felix? Any way to spare their lives?" I asked.

"I'll do anything to make you happy Bella, but no matter what I do I might not be able to save them."

"Please try?" I begged. "They're like my family. They are the only family I'm going to have left in this new world. I know I'm never going to be able to see Charlie or my mom again. I don't want to lose them too."

"I'll call when we get to the plane," Felix assured me.

"How long have you been a vampire, Felix," I asked.

"I'm a bit over a thousand years old Bella," He confided.

My eyes went wide and I gasped. A thousand years was so long that I couldn't really comprehend it. "Wow, I'm only eighteen."

Felix chuckled and said, "I believe I promised to explain about mating, Bella, but the one thing I can't explain is why Edward thought you were his. I knew when I smelled your blood that you were mine. It's like an inner demon inside wakes up and demands you claim your mate. I knew at that moment that you were the perfect match for me, the one that I could spend my very long life with, the one that I have been waiting for. Marcus and Aro will be able to tell us why Edward thought you were his. Aro will be able to read his thoughts and Marcus can see relationships. He's also in charge of the archives and knows more about mating than anyone I know. We can talk to him."

"Why don't I know as you do?" I asked.

"I think it's because you're still human, but Marcus will know for sure," Felix assured.
