DISCLAIMER: It is with deep regret that I don't own Inuyasha. If I had then I'd have tons of money...plus Sesshoumaru! LOL!
INU NO WAKUSEI
CHAPTER 12
TERRA
Rough Beginning [2]
Previously:
"Sir! Gun!"
Miroku grabbed the safety belt as the driver stepped on the gas. "Hold on, Kanna!"
"Get down!" Roth yelled.
Kagome almost lost her grasp of the back of Hiddleston's seat just as a shadow eclipsed the light on her side of the door then suddenly she felt like floating from her seat and then she was slammed back with a gasp and a strong force pushed her back hard against the door.
Damn it!
For a few heart-stopping moments the hunter almost lost control of the bike as the Bentley violently swerved away from him. When the big car made a U-turn the loss of his target screwed up his balance and he had mere seconds to swing the bike away from a taxicab, his heart beating crazily. He got so close to it that he could see the terrified look of its passengers and smell the garlic-laden breath of the cabbie who was cussing him in Tamil.
The hit man struggled mightily with the bike as it fought him and then the freaking handlebars froze. Not now! Fucking hell!
"He shot us! My god!" The professor yelled and checked himself. "Am I okay?" Then he nodded to himself, relieved. "I'm alive! We're alive!" Then in fear he looked back. "He's still behind us!" Miroku gasped, sweating buckets.
Ow, my back! Kagome grimaced as she pulled herself up with a groan and a lot of effort after being untidily dumped on the floor of the car. But someone, it could be Miroku, helped her get back on the seat. She could tell there would be a big bruise on her side tomorrow.
"Where is he?" Roth was turning here and there, eyes wide. "Miroku, is he still back there?"
"Uh…he's gone, I think," the professor wondered, peeking out from behind the seat, craning his neck.
"You think?"
"No. No, I don't see him."
"Don't slow down," Roth instructed the driver as Jim made another sharp turn on a pre-planned route. Roth took something from his briefcase.
"Wha….what is that?" Kagome asked, scared. Kagome went down with a scream when she slammed on the door as Jim turned and drove in another highway.
Roth snapped the magazine in and cocked the pistol. "Ever fired one?" Goth girl shook her head mutely at him as she got herself back on her seat. "I'll teach you how." He promised with a lopsided smile and a twinkle in his eye.
"Oh no…he's…he's fucking back!" Miroku yelled as he turned nervously at the sound of the dreaded motorbike. "Shit!"
"Shit!" Kagome parroted with a dry throat as her insides feel like it wanted to void everything.
Roth all but moved up to the backseat to get a good look at their pursuer, "Damn! He's closing in fast! Turn right here!" tires squealed and they all swayed here and there like a can of badly packed sardines yelling and screaming in fright. "We need to lose this bastard." He reached inside the glove compartment and took out a weird looking canister. "Ready?" Jim nodded, slammed the brakes, at the same time Roth opened his window and threw the canister out. Before the can hit the ground Jim was already driving away from it. "Get down!"
Miroku shoved her face down on the back seat as a loud 'whoomf!' and a bright flash was heard behind them. Screams and tire squeals were heard and right after that the teeth-grinding sound of metal tearing. The sounds were the most horrible thing Kagome had ever heard before. Her entire body was quivering and her senses felt so raw and heightened.
"Oh shit! It's burning!" Miroku gasped at the blast. He craned his neck but all he could see was dark smoke. "I think we lost him." he whispered huskily, "…or he's dead. I hope."
Hiddleston sighed. "Let's hope it's the latter too." Hiddleston settled back into his seat but he kept looking back. " I've had people follow me before but this is ridiculous."
"That's why we need to have that thing copied! "
"I agree." The blonde man nodded. "Hm," Hiddleston looked back one more time at the distant smoke, "I believe it's safe to say we lost him. "
Jim the driver nodded, "Do we head for the penthouse, sir?" The driver revved up the powerful engine glad that for now they have left the hunter far behind.
"Yes, we have to. But, not in a straight line." Employer and employee both nodded in understanding and Jim changed the regular path they take.
The hunter hobbled away from his useless motorbike, the machine lay broken where it fell on the street being surrounded by gawkers. The sound of police sirens could be heard a few blocks away and he made his hasty exit before someone noticed him.
In the alley the woman was easy to subdue as she was not paying attention where she was going, coming out from the backdoor. She made a small squealing sound before she collapsed in his arms not even knowing who attacked her. Picking up her keys on the ground he got her car unlocked. The woman and her things were tossed into the boot compartment of her own car. He learned from a mistake a long time ago so now he doesn't leave his victims in the backseat anymore. As he slammed the boot it was in passing that he noted that she was wearing a white medical jacket.
He leaned back with a sigh as he flexes his bruised thigh. While taking a rest he took out his device. A red dot blinks from the tracking device he planted earlier. Good decision, that.
The tracking device is still on the move and after one last look at the device he decided that he is as well.
The silence was heavy for the four people in the car after being shaken by their close brush with death.
"This is us." Hiddleston turned with haste in his voice. "As soon as we stop we go out quickly, okay?" Hiddleston got nods from the two in the backseat. "Let's go!"
As soon as the Bentley pulled to a stop her side of the door opened, a gloved hand helped her out and she followed the two men in a super duper plush reception area and a liveried guy punched the elevator open for them.
Roth Hiddleston turned back to her with a smile as he nodded to the elevator guy and the elevator car immediately parted open and she was hurriedly ushered in.
Whirring sound came from binoculars as it adjusted the sight. This building is new and it has cutting edge security technology and he had heard that it was virtually impregnable. What a challenge he thought as he takes notice of the number of security personnel inside and outside the building.
There's one way to skin a cat, he thought as he looked up.
DING!
"Out we go!" Hiddleston trotted to his door while fishing the keys in his pocket. "Quickly!" As soon as he got the door open the lights went on and Miroku hurriedly followed the former somewhere.
Left all alone Kagome shut the wide open ornate door by herself and went further in a few steps, feeling lost. Wide-eyed, the girl turned around looking here and there at the luxurious surroundings.
Kagome had an idea that Roth Hiddleston is loaded but, wow! Kagome smiled as she opened the curtains admiring the city lights in the dusk. She was left open jawed at the view of the mountains. At this height the city looked far away and everything seemed disconnected from all her problems.
It was then Kagome felt stupid going with them. How did she get dragged into this? She asked herself as she turned away from the window.
She needs to find work immediately not go on a stupid dangerous road trip with these two. And the scariest part of all is that the more she stays with them the more she gets exposed. But there's this curiosity in her that wanted to know what these were two up to.
"How did you get here?"
