A/N: There is a lot of world building. Things I've pulled from the anima, thing's I've pulled from the games, others from the internet and much that I've simple made up. I don't own the world of Pokemon or Harry Potter, but this special amalgamation of the two is all my own.
A/N 2: I'm doing some editing of all my stories and uploading all the chapter's that I've been holding back. There was eleven chapters uploaded before I started this, but I've written seventeen chapters at this point in time so there will be that many uploads before a break of several weeks to a month before I write and upload chapter eighteen. I've got a second Pokemon story which is at roughly the same time frame as this one, so i'm having to be careful and double check myself so pieces of that story does not end up in this one.
Nine families looked out upon the world they lived in, saw the Pokemon who were dying because of the actions of man, and they decided to make a difference. And now, thousands of years later, from the Islands of Jura, a young trainer emerges having already faced death and danger. With his loyal Ralts at his side, our young trainer begins his journey and he just might be able to teach the Chosen One what his teachers failed to convey before his journey.
Chapter 1: Arc 1: Regional Layout and History
There where sixteen main 'regions' in the world of Pokemon, each of them had formed and been established over generations of war. There was once a time where some of these lands were joined together in an alliance under a single name and rule, but as times changes so did the control of these lands. Now, the sixteen regions were identified by their own branch of the 'Pokemon Leagues' or similar, the region Champion and their elite four (although there are some region's that share their champion, such as Kanto and Johto), and their own regional Pokemon Professor who provides a unique set of Starter Pokemon. Typically, the regions were one large body of land, which then may have smaller islands which are also part of the region. For example, the Orange Islands and Cinnabar Island are both part of the Kanto region.
Kanto is a region which contains many different environments, such as urban locations, mountain, woods and oceanic routes. This means that Kanto is home to a large variety of Pokemon. The eight main gyms of this region are located in the main cities of Kanto: Viridian city (the ground-type gym), Pewter city (the rock-type gym), Cerulean city (water-type gym), Vermillion city (electric-type gym), Celadon city (grass type gym), Fuchsia city (poison-type gym, and also contains the Safari zone), Saffron city (psychic-type gym), Cinnabar (an island which contains the fire-type gym). Other notable places of Kanto include the Orange Islands, seafoam islands, Viridian forest, Mt. Moon, Pallet Town (which is where the regional professor, Professor Oak, lived), the Indigo Plateau (home of the Pokemon League) and Lavender town. Lavender town is one of the smallest towns in the region, and does not have an established gym. However, it has a large number of ghost type Pokémon. The starter Pokemon, handed out by Professor Oak which ensured all trainers started their badge run in Pallet town, where Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle.
Johto lies to the west of Kanto, separated by the sea. They are connected together by league designated routes 26, 27 and 28. Route 26 is a train which travels through a jagged mountain range. Route 28 is a sea route to the southwest of the island. Route 27 was a difficult land route which crosses the base of Mount Silver. The eight cities of Johto are Blackthorn city (dragon-type gym), Mahogany town (ice-type gym), Violet City (flying-type gym), Azalea Town (bug-type gym), Goldenrod City (normal-type gym), Ecruteak City (ghost-type gym), Olivine City (steel-type gym), Cianwood City (fighting-type gym). Other places of note were New Bark Town, Cherrgrove City, the national park, Whirl Islands, Mt. Mortar, Dragon's Den and Mt. Silver. Professor Elm, who lives in New Bark Town, gives out the starter type Pokemon of Chikorita, Cyndaquill and Totodile.
The Hoenn region is part of the same Pokemon League that holds the Kanto and Johto leagues, and can be found to the southwest of Kanto. Hoenn is classed as a sea region. The eight cities with gyms that were part of the Pokemon league were: Rustboro city (rock-type gym), Dewford town (fighting-type gym), Mauville city (electric-type gym), Lavaridge town (fire-type gym), Petalburg city (normal-type gym), Fortree city (flying-type gym), Mossdeep city (psychic-type gym) and Sootopolis city (water-type). Other locations of note are Slateport city, Verdanturf town, Fallarbor town, Lilycove city, Pacifidlog town, Evergrade city, Battle Tower, Sky Pillar and the Southern Islands. Regional Professor Birch is located in a very small town, Littleroot; he gives out the three starter Pokemon of Treecko, Torchic and Mudkip.
Sinnoh region, like Heonn, Johto and Kanto has a variety of different environments which produce many different Pokemon. However, this region is the first time that there is a snowy route which is present all year round. The majority of this region is mountainous, particularly through the centre of the island. There are four lakes (Acuity, Valor, Verity and Sendoff springs) located in Sinnoh, each of which houses a legendary Pokemon (Uxie, Azelf, Mesprit and Giratina, respectively). The eight Pokemon league cities in this region are: Oreburgh city (rock-type gym), Eterna city (grass-type gym), Veilstone city (fighting-type gym), Pastoria city (water-type gym), Hearthome city (ghost-type gym), Canalave city (steel-type gym), Snowpoint city (ice-type gym) and Sunshore city (electric-type gym). The regional professor Rowan, lives in Sandgem town and gives the three starter Pokemon of Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup.
Unova is located very far away from the first four regions, separated by a large amount of sea, which means that the native Pokemon to this region are very different to those original from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh. There are many cities, towns and natural landmarks that can be visited in this region including the Ruins of Titan which are the runes of an ancient city located in the desert. There are a confirmed 21 different settlements across the region, with two of the largest cities in the world of Castelia and Nimbasa City, which both contain main league sanctioned gyms. Another of the larger cities with a main gym is Opelucid city. The island of Unova is divided in two, by two rivers that flow to the ocean in the south. The three landmasses, central, eastern and western, are connected via five sky bridges. The eastern part of Unova is further divided by mountains. The eight main gyms do not have the same designated typing that the other gyms do. For example, Striation city has three gym leaders, Cilan, Chili and Cress who are Grass, Fire and Water type leaders. So, the badge type you receive is dependent on the leader that you face. The other city gyms of Nacrene (normal-type), Nimbasa (electric-type), Driftveil (ground type), Mistralton (flying type), Icirrus city (ice type) and Opelucid (dragon type). The eighth gym is located in Virbank City and is for the poison badge. However, the main badge designation had been known to change hands from Stration city to Aspertia city which was a normal type gym and, from Icirrus city to Humilau city with the water badge. Regional professor Juniper gives trainers the starter Pokemon of Snivy, Tepig and Oshawott.
The Kalos region is on an island shaped like a five-point star. One of the biggest cities of this island is Lumiose city which is located in the north-central part of the region. There are a vast network of rivers and waterways which travels through much of the landscape, cities and towns. In the north east of the island, there was a collection of mountains around which the temperature is frigid. There are seventeen different towns and cities across the region, with several notable landmarks separating them such as the Santalune forest and Parfum palace. The eight main gyms are located in Santalune city (bug type), Cyllage city (Rock type), Shalour city (Fighting type), Coumarine city (grass type), Lumiose city (electric badge), Laverre city (fairy type), Anistar city (psychic type), Snowbelle city (ice type). The regional professor, Scamore, gives out the starter type Pokemon off Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie.
The Alola region is made up of four natural islands, and one artificial island: Melemele Island, Akala Island, Poni island and Aether Paradise. This is a popular resort tourist destination, and has developed a very different culture compared to the other regions. All of the natural islands are, to an extent, forested and mountainous with the cities and towns mostly located around the coast lines. There are only nine cities and towns in this region. Instead of having a League badge run, trainers must instead complete the Island challenge. On each of the four main islands, there is trails that needed to be completed with the trainers having to face a Totem Pokemon after each trail; each trail has a trail captain who provides guidance. In the final trail or Grand trail, trainers must battle the island of Kahuna. The goal is to be the strongest trainer. For the Melemele island, the trial captain is Llima in Verdent Cavern, with the Totem Pokemon being Gumshoos or an Alolan Raticate. This is the normal type challenge. Then on Akala island had three different type challenges: water type challenge, Fire type and grass type. Lana is the Water Trail captain in Brooklet Hill against Wishiwashi and Araquanid as the totem Pokemon. The fire type trail captain is Kiawe, found in Wela Volcano Park, with Totem Pokemon of Salazzle and Alolan Marowak. The grass trail captain is Mallow, located in Lush Jungle, with the Totem Pokemon of Lurantis. Ula'ula island had the electric and ghost trials. Sophocles is the trail captain, found in Hokulani Observatory, against the totem Pokemon of Vikavolt or Togedemaru. The ghost trail captain is Acerola, found in Thrifty Megamart, against Mimikyu. Finally, on Poni island there was the dragon trial and the fairy trial. There isn't a trial captain for the dragons, and the totem Pokemon is Kommo-o, located in vast Poni Canyon. Mina is the trial captain for the fairys, located in Seafolk Village, against a Ribombee. The final stage, against the island Kahuna is a battle against the four trainers representing each of the islands: Hala (fighting type), Olivia (Rock type), Nanu (dark type) and Hapu (Ground type). Professor Kukui is the regional professor for Alola, with the starter Pokemon of Rowlet, Litten and Popplio.
The final main region is Galar. There are eleven cities and towns located in Galar, and the island is a long island instead of wide. Like Alola and Unova, it is located very far from Kanto and Johto. Galar does not have an elite dour, instead the Galar Pokemon league sees the trainers fighting three of eight gym leaders in the semi-finals and finals of the champions' cup. However, you still have to face eight gyms in order to compete in the Champions cup, but you first need a letter of endorsement in order to compete in the Challenge. Turffield has the Grass type gym, Nulbury has the Water type Gym, Motostoke has a fire type gym, Stow-on-side has the fighting type gym, Ballonlea has a fairy type gym, while Circhester has a rock type gym; spikemuth has a dark type gym and the final gym is dragon type located in Hammerlocke. In the semi-finals of the champion cup, you face against Marnie, the dark type trainer, and Hop who isn't type define. In the interruption, you face against Bede the fairy type trainer. In the finals you face against Nessa the water type, Bea the fighting type and Raihan the dragon type. Finally, in the championship match you face against Leon who is a champion with no defined typing. Regional professor of Magnolica gives the starter Pokemon of Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobbie.
The remaining eight regions are Fiore, Almia, Oblivia, Holon, Ransei, Ferrum and Pasio, which typically exist within their own cycle. Since the distance that needs to be travelled is so great, those who are going on their Pokemon run might go through these eight regions and then return home, or go through Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh, Hoenn, Unova, Kalos, Alola and Galar and return home. Those who travel between the two different sections of regions are typically the ones who wish to be claimed as Pokemon Master, or the few who have business interests. It was easier to do the trip, if you first took a flight to Galar, before getting another plan to Almia which was the region closest to Galar.
The Pokemon League consists of the top-level Pokemon trainers. These trainers are identified in a tournament style. In order to enter the tournament, trainers must complete the 'badge run' for their region. If the trainer manages to get all eight main badges, they are entered directly into the tournament. However, if they get one or more badge from another League sanctioned gym they are entered into a preliminary contest where the top fifty standing go through to the tournament. The winner of the tournament is then given the chance to fight against the region's Elite Four. If they managed to beat at least two members of the Elite Four, they are then given the opportunity to challenge the Region's Champion. If they beat all four of the Elite Four members, they are given the opportunity to challenge the Champion for their title.
A Pokemon Champion is considered to have the strongest Pokemon of that region and has several responsibilities that they take up with this title. The most important of these is as defender of their region: if strife or unrest was to rise in their region, it is the champion's job to crush it. They also monitor the running of the main and minor league gyms, and shut down any unsanctioned gyms or have them sanctioned. The Elite four help the Champion in his duties and ensure that his reach spreads across the region. The Kanto and Johto region currently share a Champion, Lance a Dragon Master, but each have independent Elite Fours and Leagues.
The forces that the Champion can call upon are the Ace Trainers and the Rangers. Ace Trainers are highly trained, skilled and specialised trainers who, when not engaged in research, may be called upon in a battle situation. Then there are the Rangers who are also highly trained. Rangers normally only have one or two Pokemon who act as their partners in helping them bring control to wild Pokemon. One of their main duties is containing wild Pokemon and relocating any overpopulated Pokemon. However, in the event of a major disaster or war, all registered trainers in the area can be called upon to help – assigned tasks depending on badge level and typing.
Off the south coast of Johto and Kanto there was a collection of Islands referred to as the Isle of Jura. There were five islands, all of them within a two-hour boat ride of each other and visible from the beaches. The largest of the islands was Sark, which had a population of around 1000. The population of Sark worked together in order to breed and preserve a small selection of Pokemon: Scyther, Scizor, Sewaddle and Snom. Of course, there were other Pokemon that inhabited the island, but these other breeds were kept to a very small number in order to ensure that the four bug-type Pokemon flourished.
Each of the other four islands also worked to preserve different breads of Pokemon depending on their environment. On the island of Udaa they worked to preserve flying type Pokemon such as: Natu, Swallow, Swablu, Fletchling, Noibat and Rookidee. Duch Island was for ghost type Pokemon, specifically: Misdreavus, Sableye, Frillish, Litwick and Marshadow. Kovinski was dedicated to preserving steel type Pokemon with a focus on: Skarmory, Aron, Beldum, Bronzor, Klink, Pawniard and Klefki. Finally, on the island of Chuma they cared for fire type Pokemon, with a focus on Vulpix, Blaziken, Victini, Pansear and Scorbunny.
The Pokemon that these five islands breed and care for were selected many years past when these species where endangered even if this was no longer the case. They had succeeded in repopulating the majority of these Pokemon in their likely home region, such as with Misdreavus in the region of Alola. The only Pokemon that they hadn't managed to truly repopulate in other regions was the steel type Pokemon of Skarmory, Aron and Pawniard.
Since these five islands were type specific, they had contracts with all the regions so that those who were looking to master one of these types would be allowed to visit without consequence and spend up to six months submerged in the caring and documenting of their selected species. And they regularly sent new batches of these Pokemon to different regional professors and rangers when they were requested and the population was beginning to be in excess of what the island can support.
The Isle of Jura were claimed as a Pokemon sanctuary by the families of Potter, Black, Longbottom, Abbott, Malfoy, Slytherin, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. These families pulled together their resources in order to make themselves officially independent of the other regions with a single purpose: protect and preserve the Pokemon. These nine families took up different roles on the Isles. It was the Potters who were assigned the defence of the Islands, their close connection with psychic type Pokemon meant they were well suited for putting up barriers and monitoring the people who were coming and going from the islands. While the Blacks acted in an offensive manor to repel any attacks that may be attempted against the Isle, and the training of their defenders and ensuring peace was gained on the island as the standing police force. The Slytherin and Ravenclaw acted together in gathering and putting together the research conducted on the Pokemon, although the Slytherin family would also send out their members to the other regions to ensure that they stayed up to date on Pokemon which were not housed on the islands. The Longbottom family was in charge of monitoring and maintaining the environment of the islands; the Abbott's maintained housing and residency; the Malfoy family monitored businesses; the Hufflepuff and Gryffindor families worked together with outside contracts to ensure that the islands remained connected despite their neutrality. It was due to the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff families that the children of the island could choose to be registered as trainers at any region, instead of being first registered in Johto or Kanto (the closest regions). The Hufflepuff family also spearheaded the education of those who resided on the island, with support from the Potter, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Slytherin families.
Other families moved with The Nine to the islands, and it was these families which worked hands on in the care and study of the Pokemon: Weasley, Prewitt, Parkinson, Nott, Gaunt, Greengrass and Lestrange. Over the years, the separation between The Nine and the smaller families and individuals had gotten smaller, with each individual choosing which role they wished to take up on the island. Although the Heads of the Nines did have to complete the role of their families, since the founding charter couldn't be changed unless a family died out.
During the time of the most recent Team Rocket's reign, they had managed to infiltrate the island under the radar of the Black, Potter and Slytherin families. They managed this by first bringing into their ranks three members of the house of Black, and all but three adult members of the house of Slytherin. Once they had infiltrated two of these families who ran the defence and intelligence of the islands, they were able to begin gathering allies from the rest of the island. Within a year of getting a minor foothold in the Islands, the Potter family realised what had happened and immediately moved against Team Rocket.
A minor civil war raged across the Ilse. The Potter family used their psychic gifts to lock down the islands – no one could travel to or from Jura - and then begin a systematic assessment of everyone on the island. They started with the Black family since they led the enforcement and trained fighters of the islands, and the Slytherin family since they held and monitored the intelligence gathering on the island. The Potters lost five members of their family in order to detained the Slytherin's who had turned, and another three to bring down the turned Blacks.
With the three strongest families now standing at each other's sides, they tackled the rest of the Isle. Not a single person was left unassessed. Unfortunately, since the Potters had to be in the front line in order to conduct the psychic assessment of loyalty, they continued to lose members. Five months into their campaign the majority of the Team had been rooted out, and the Potter's were down to three members: James and Lily Potter and their son, Harry.
In a desperate move to bring down the psychic barrier, either to escape or get reinforcements, the last of the Team Rocket members who had gone into hiding on the Isle came together and attacked the Potter family. James and Lily both fell before the Defenders could answer their call for help. They arrived in time to save the life of the final Potter, Harry. But not in time to prevent injury to the heir.
