Chapter 2: I Lit The Black Flame Candle
"I'm sorry boys, I really didn't think you'd want to be part of a group costume." Brittany said, her phone precariously pressed between her ear and shoulder as she paid the batista at Starbucks.
"Why would you think that?" Kurt said "I love fashion and dressing up. Don't you remember my Lady Gaga outfit?"
"Of course I do!" the blonde said "Maybe I can figure this out?"
"Britt it's really okay if not." Blaine said "Kurt's just really disappointed."
"I'll make it happen." Brittany grabbed her PSL from the counter "I've got an idea."
Not an hour later, Brittany strutted into the boys apartment.
"You want me to dress up as a little girl?" Kurt gawked "You can't be serious Britt."
"Not to mention we're going to be siblings. That's all kinds of wrong." Blaine said.
"Well it's not exactly a couples costume boys. And Kurt, her name is Dani. So we can just gender swap it if you're so concerned. And honestly, who cares if we just make her a little older?" the dancer ran a hand through her hair.
"Couldn't you have picked something liek Harry Potter?" Kurt played with the witch hat.
"Rachel insisted it had to have a musical element and Santana wanted to be sexy." Brittany sighed "Boys, you don't have to join."
"I don't mind being Max" Blaine said "It's not much of a costume but I like it."
"Kurt?" the blue eyed girl asked nervously.
"I can work with it." he smiled softly "You're really excited about this huh?"
"I am. It's Santana and my first Halloween in the house. I just want everything to be perfect." Brittany admits.
"I'm sure you'll do great." Blaine smiles "Let me walk you out." he takes her out to the sidewalk and stops her form walking away for a second. "Britt, I really appreciate you doing this for Kurt. He was heartbroken."
"I should've known better." the girl shrugs.
"Look. Don't stress yourself too much. And if you need any help, call me."
"Really?" Brittany was surprised, her and Blaine weren't particularly close.
"We're friends Britt. Of course." he smiled.
"Right. Well, I've got to go shopping for some more decorations. I'll see you both soon." Brittany zipped up her jacket and walked away.
A few hours later, Brittnay pulled up to the brownstone loaded down with bags. She paid the taxi driver and slowly made her way to the door. She was about to unlock the door when Santana opened it.
"Britt!" she smiled "Where have you been? I've been calling you."
"Shopping." the blonde said hobbling through the doorway.
"And you couldn't answer?" the Latina said closing the door and examining the blonde. "Are you okay?"
"Just help me unpack these." Brittany says.
"How much did you spend?" the shorter girl says slowly unpacking.
"I've been saving for this. I promise, it's okay." the dancer says, slowly shrugging off her jacket.
"Baby just sit for a second." Santana says seeing the tiredness in her wife's movements. It's when her gloves are taken off Santana worries. "Did you walk home?" The girl immediately takes the icy hands of her wife worriedly.
"The cab's heater didn't work." Brittnay sighs. "I didn't want to make my hands any colder. That's why I didn't answer."
"Oh baby it's alright. Here" Santana grabs a throw and covers Brittany "I'm going to get you a mug of cocoa."
After finishing her cocoa Brittany feels a bit better and organizes what she bought with Santana.
"You're really going all out with the Hocus Pocus theme." the brunette says thoughtfully.
"For now, yeah. But I'm going to get the more basic stuff like skeletons and pumpkins too." she replies.
"Hey, by the way, I wanted to ask if you'd be okay with something." Santana turns to face her.
"What's up?" Brittany looks up from the hand towels she's folding.
"I want to put up a Día de los Muertos altar." she nervously says "I know it's not part of your theme, but it's really important to me."
"Hun, I'm never going to tell you to not celebrate your culture." Brittany says "Of course."
"There's one other thing." Santana says quieter "I was hoping to put the sonogram on the altar."
"Oh." the blonde straightens up "I suppose that would be alright. I…" she looks away "Yeah San. That...I think that would be nice."
"Are you sure Britt Britt?" Santana asks. The blonde nods and the Latina gently kisses her cheek.
Once the bags are all unpacked, Santana turns on some Halloween music to try and cheer up her wife while they decorate. She eventually stops the dancer from decorating and asks her to dance as "Remember Me" from Coco comes on. The taller girls rests her head on a tan shoulder as they slowly sway. Santana gently strokes her hair. The loss had been hard for both of them, but Brittany had been carrying the baby. They had only told family, but talking to both their parents heart-wrenching. Brittany blamed herself, but Santana assured her she wasn't at fault. It had only been since August, just over a month ago. Santana was doing everything she could to keep the blonde's spirits up, but Halloween was what first cheered her up. The Latina hoped it would stay that way.
