Description: FSOG doesn't belong to me, as always. I own the plot and more than a few characters though. I know nothing about medical stuff or the military stuff, so whatever you're going to read is completely a figment of my crazy imagination.
This story starts from Mia's kidnapping scene when Christian reaches there. I'm changing some stuff for my amusement and plot-line's demand.
*I would like to remind you that this is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to real people or places is accidental; though I did borrow some names and characters from other places that are not mine.
Thanks to my awesome Beta, Ninkita.

Christian didn't even wait until the car stopped before he was out of it. He had a really bad feeling about this. At first he had thought Ana just wanted him for money, but when he put his male ego aside, he realized... she would never do something like that. Ana had never cared for money. She wasn't a materialistic person. There had to be some other reason for her to act like that. He hurried towards the large concrete parking lot that was flanked by a row of squat, empty brick buildings. As he neared, he could hear a man yelling. Something about that man's voice seemed familiar.
As Christian reached the scene, he recognized the man standing over Ana's body, arguing with the woman standing beside him. It was Jack Hyde. The woman beside him also looked vaguely familiar, but Christian' eyes were on his wife who was lying on the concrete floor lifelessly, curled up on one side with one of her hands protecting her belly. She was bleeding profusely from a visible head injury. Christian felt like his blood had frozen in his veins at the sight. He had failed to protect his wife and child. He couldn't breathe at the thought of a life without them.
By then, Jack had noticed Christian as well. With a curse, he raised his gun and pointed it at the man that had snatched the life that should have been his. He was supposed to be chosen and be the billionaire. Instead, they chose to adopt Christian. Jack was just about to press the trigger when a gun shot was heard. Jack gasped in agony before he glanced down and stared at his chest in disbelief. He couldn't believe how he had failed. Elizabeth's terror filled scream broke him from his trance as he fell on his knees in front of Ana. He barely registered the smoking gun in her hand. He gaped at her as he realized that she had shot him.
"If I didn't let you harm his sister, then how did you think I would let you hurt him?" Ana rasped out with a wry smile.
"Y-You..." Before he could say anything more, Jack fell face-first on the concrete floor and blood started pooling around him. With a choked inhale, Ana lost consciousness.
"ANA!" Christian screamed. He hadn't got a chance to react when Ana had shot Jack. Seeing Ana lose consciousness pulled him back in action. He ran up to her and dropped to his knees. "Ana... no! Please don't leave me!" he cried. "TAYLOR!" he called out helplessly.
"Mr. Grey, the ambulance will be here in a few moments. I can already hear the siren. The police are parking their car at the moment," Taylor informed Christian as he restrained Elizabeth.
"Where are the paramedics?" Christian shouted angrily as he held his lifeless wife's hand. He wanted to hold her badly, but knew that moving her might aggravate her injuries.
"We're here, sir. Please move back," the paramedics had rushed inside.
In the next twenty minutes, the police had arrested Elizabeth, rescued Mia, retrieved Jack's body, and sent Ana on her way to the hospital. Christian rode in the ambulance with Ana, refusing to be separated from his wife. Taylor stayed back to give the authorities as much information as possible about the incidents.
Christian called his parents from the ambulance. His mother was already waiting for them at the emergency entrance of the hospital. Seeing her daughter and daughter-in-law getting unloaded from two separate ambulances, Ana's bloody state and Christian's crying face, Grace was shocked beyond reason. She couldn't understand how any of this had happened.
"MOM... my Ana!" Christian cried like a little boy wanting reassurance as he hugged his mother. Grace held onto her son as Ana and Mia were wheeled away to the emergency room.

Two hours passed slowly for Ana's family. Finally, a doctor came to the waiting room. "Anastasia Grey's family?" he called out. At the announcement, the Greys, Carla, Ray, and Kate stood up. Seeing them, the doctor approached them.
"I'm Christian Grey, Ana's husband," Christian informed the doctor, stepping up.
"Mr. Grey, I'm Dr. Shikhawat, your wife's attending doctor. Your wife has suffered severe blunt force trauma to her skull and due to that she is now suffering from intracerebral hemorrhage. I'll be frank with you... her vital signs are getting worse by the hour. Her CT scan showed that the bleeding in her brain is in such a critical place that we can't operate on it without the risk of losing the patient. Only 6% of patients live through surgeries like this. Mrs. Grey didn't suffer from any other trauma, so the baby is alright for now, but we're keeping a close eye on her," Dr. Shikhawat informed apologetically. He clearly felt bad for the young couple.
Christian fell back on the seat behind him in shock, mumbling to himself as he tugged on his hair harshly, "Oh God! Please don't let anything happen to my Ana... I beg of you... please..."
Grace started asking the doctor for more details as she was extremely worried by the prognosis.
"Doctor?! Is there any way...? You said something about... 6%?" Christian asked helplessly from the seat, interrupting Grace and Dr. Shikhawat's discussion.
Dr. Shikhawat sighed before gesturing towards the seats, "Please, have a seat," he said to Grace, and sat down in front of Christian, dragging another chair. "I don't want to give you any false hope, Mr. Grey. But I think... I should share this with you. There is a neurosurgeon... an army doctor. He is the only one who has performed these kinds of surgeries in the past... and succeeded. We would've called for him, but Mrs. Grey doesn't have that much time, as Dr. Cpt. Eric Coulter is currently posted in Afghanistan," Dr. Shikhawat explained.
"Give me as much information as you have on him. I'll get him here if it means my wife stays alive. Till then, please take care of my wife and child," Christian pleaded.
"Mr. Grey, I can assure you that we will try our very best," Dr. Shikhawat assured, "I'll go and get Dr. Coulter's information for you," he said before leaving.
It took Christian and Taylor close to six hours to locate the captain, get permission from the higher ups to get Dr. Cpt. Coulter out of Afghanistan before his time by bribing a few millions, and arrange for him to be flown straight to Seattle from Afghanistan in the next 24 hours. They were lucky that Ana's condition didn't worsen in the time that it took to arrange all these things.
Mia had gained consciousness and gave the police her statement of the whole incident. Christian and the Greys were beyond furious when she told them that she had ditched her bodyguard at the gym. Mia had been inconsolable when she learned about Ana's condition. After all, Ana had gone there to save her. Mia didn't know how disastrous her innocent little mistake would turn out to be for her whole family.

On the other side of the world, a man in his prime was getting ready for his day. He got up at 4.30 am, changed into his workout clothes, and headed to the workout area. He started his vigorous training regimen. Two hours later, he was heading towards his room to change into his uniform. He had just finished changing into his army fatigues when one of the junior officers, Lieutenant Smith, came and knocked on his door.
"Sir, Good morning, Sir," he snapped to attention. "Colonel Anderson has asked to see you in his office, sir," he informed stoically.
Dr. Cpt. Coulter nodded in acknowledgement. "Alright. Dismissed." After the junior officer left, Captain Coulter gave himself one last look before heading out. Reaching his superior officer's office, he knocked.
"Come in!" the permission came.
"Dr. Cpt. Eric Coulter reporting , sir!" Captain Coulter saluted and stood in attention.
"At ease, Captain," Col. Anderson told him, "You must be wondering why you've been called here, right?" he asked, raising his eyebrow.
"Yes, sir,"
"Well... the reason is... you're being released from your duties early." Col. Anderson shared the news with a smile.
"Early?! May I ask why, sir? I mean, no offence, sir... but I only have 6 more months left of this tour," Captain Coulter asked, puzzled. When he came in here, he was NOT expecting this news. He thought he was being sent to some kind of mission.
"I just got the orders. It seems there's a critical patient in Seattle, Washington that needs your medical attention immediately. That patient's husband is a billionaire and has requested your presence urgently... within 24 hours to be specific. He had contacted the President personally to get you released early," Col. Anderson shrugged. He knew money spoke but hadn't seen the proof of how much until now. "It seems your reputation as a neurosurgeon has preceded you," he gave the captain a proud smile. "Here are the printouts of your patient's case file and all the other information you'll need," he handed over the confidential file. "Get ready to leave, Captain. A private jet has been arranged for you. It'll be ready to take off in an hour," he informed.
"Noted, sir," Captain Coulter said, snapping a salute before leaving.
Coming out of his senior's room, Captain Coulter hurried to the PBX room. He needed to make an urgent call. Telling the PBX operator the required number, he started looking through the case file in his hand.
"Sir, the call has been connected," the operator informed him after a few moments.
Nodding, Captain Coulter took the phone. "Hey, I have some news," he said as a greeting. Even though his face was stoic, the excitement in his voice was clear.
"..."
"I'm coming home... I've been released from my duties early," he said with a soft smile.
"..."
"I'll be home in the next 24 hours. I have a serious patient in Seattle Grace Hospital. So, I'll go there first. Don't know how long I'll be there for but..." He trailed off.
"..."
"See you soon. I... I love you," he whispered blushing slightly.
"..."
Smiling, he hung up and headed towards his quarters. He needed to pack his stuff. After 2 long years, he was finally going home.

20 hours later.
Mia had been discharged from the hospital as she had only been drugged. So, she was also with the rest of their family, waiting for some news about Ana. Dr. Cpt. Coulter had arrived at the hospital 2 hours ago. He didn't waste time meeting Ana's family. Instead, he had her rushed into the operation theater as soon as he finished seeing her latest test reports. He had ordered to get these tests done from the plane as he didn't want to waste anymore time. The patient was already critical. Fortunately, Ana's condition had stayed mostly stable till his arrival.
Captain Coulter sighed in relief as the operation was successful. He smiled under his mask as satisfaction filled his insides. This was why he wanted to become a doctor. He wanted to save people at first. Then, he realized that he not only wanted to save them, but also protect them. So, he enlisted in the Army right after he finished medical school. He didn't want money or fame. All his life, Eric Coulter had wanted only one thing; to serve and protect his country and its people.
He had just finished washing his hands when the other doctor that had joined him in the OT came out after finishing the sutures. "Captain, you have magic in your hands. I was mesmerized," praised Dr. Shikhawat.
"It's nothing like that. She was destined to be saved by my hands, so she did. I did nothing special," Captain Coulter replied with a warm smile.
Dr. Shikhawat stared at the man in amazement. Never before had he seen a doctor giving his due credit to destiny. "But doctor... destiny, seriously?! You believe in that stuff?" he finally asked, not being able to keep the disbelief out of his tone.
Dr. Coulter was going to remove his mask when Dr. Shikhawat's comment stopped him. "Doctor, I believe that the Almighty has absolute authority over all. He has given us free will, but everything that happens in our lives happens because he wants it to happen," he shrugged.
"Do you mean to say all the bad things also happened because the Almighty wants it?" Dr. Shikhawat frowned.
"No, that's where free will comes in. I believe that the Almighty planned all the events of our lives and all those events are connected with one another somehow. It depends on us to choose how we react in each of those events... on our choices between good and bad," Dr. Coulter explained.
"Hmm... Fascinating theory," Dr. Shikhawat smiled at the man.
"Now, let's just hope our patient does well in the next 24 hours of observation. Then, I will be able to sigh in relief as she will be out of danger," Dr. Coulter stated with a boyish smile, which got hidden under his surgical mask, but it was clear in his gray eyes.
"I agree with you, Captain," Dr. Shikhawat smiled, nodding his head.
"By the way, I didn't get the chance to ask earlier... how did she get in this situation? It seemed like a blunt force trauma and there were no other old injuries from what I saw in her chart. From what I got so far... it doesn't seem like a domestic abuse case. Her husband moved heaven and Earth to save her. Do you know what actually happened?" Dr. Coulter asked curiously as they headed towards the waiting room to give the news to Ana's anxious family members.
"I don't know the details, but from what I heard... Mrs. Gray's sister-in-law was kidnapped and Mrs. Grey had gone to rescue her," Dr. Shikhawat shared, shrugging. They chatted amongst themselves the rest of the way to the waiting room. Neither of them remembered that Dr. Cpt. Coulter was still wearing the surgical mask.
Ana's family members stood up seeing Dr. Shikhawat arrive with another doctor. It was clear from his posture that he was a military personnel. So, everyone assumed it was the Captain they had heard so much about.
Dr. Coulter hadn't seen the people in the waiting room yet. Just as they entered the waiting room, Dr. Shikhawat gestured towards his face, causing Dr. Coulter to touch his face. That's when he realized that he had forgotten to remove his mask. Grinning wryly, he removed his mask. The gasps he heard caused him to turn towards the other occupants of the waiting room.
Cpt. Eric Coulter inhaled sharply as his gray eyes met with another matching pair and he whispered to himself, "ED?"
Everyone from Ana's family had frozen in shock; especially the Grey family. For Christian, it was like looking in the mirror. The man in the blue scrubs looked exactly like him. Though the man was more muscular than him, his face, his hair color, and his eyes were exactly like Christian's.
