Chapter 1
She tried to look away, maybe to the pile of ants trailing at her feet, or on the mosquito terrorizing her ear, on the sound of dried grass breaking with the wind, on the grey moon.
His eyes were burning her, irritating her senses above and beyond, making her uncomfortable as she tried to distract her mind off of him.
But it wasn't only his eyes.
She could feel how the silver around him crashed with her blue, in a twisted dance of energies she wasn't sure she wanted to participate in.
Both auras being tense, but tolerable to each other.
-"You're nervous" he spoke first.
She knew he noticed, she couldn't even try to hide it.
-"I guess I am" she said with a smile trying to release her tension.
-"Are you scared of me?"
She was sitting in front of a different Sesshomaru than the one she had met five years ago, she needed to remember that.
But his spiking aura and the devilish eyes didn't make it easy.
-"I don't know"
She looked down to Shippo, sleeping in her arms.
-"He sleeps through anything doesn't he?" Sesshomaru said admiring the boy, listening to his steady breathing, sensing the peace in his dream.
-"Ever since we met" Kagome said, remembering the fights and the yelling and how Shippo had slept through all of it.
She almost envied him.
-"We've never had the opportunity to talk" he said changing his position, leaning on the big tree that rested imposing over them.
-"We were too busy fighting, imagine small talk over slashing heads and guts"
To her surprise, he laughed. A calm sound, the laugh of someone wise, she thought.
-"Can I ask you something?" kagome said after a long silence.
He nodded.
-"Why did you stay?"
Ever since he had showed up that rainy day, holding Rin in his arms, the question had stuck to her mind.
She didn't think he was going to answer, so she focused on observing Shippo close to the fire.
He had freckles covering his nose and cheeks, red eyebrows and growing fangs sticking out of his mouth, resting on his lower lip.
He had grown, as much as Kagome wished to stop time, it didn't, and he had grown.
-"I don't have anywhere to go" he finally said and Kagome caught up with the words turning to look at him.
-"Inuyasha... as rough the path we shared was in the past, he's all I have left and I didn't want to isolate Rin"
He turned to look at the girl sleeping in front of him, next to Kagome, she too, slept through everything. Even through the fire and the blood.
She had grown, as much as that pained him, she had.
-"She has grown so much" Kagome smiled again at the memory of the first time she had seen the girl, with a dirty kimono and a missing tooth. Somehow when she saw them, she knew how important she was to him. She knew she would keep seeing the girl anywhere he went.
-"And why did you stay?" He asked her the same question.
Difficult.
-"It wasn't much of a choice, The Well stopped working...I can't go back anymore, even if I wanted to"
The scent of the early coffee and the music of the city traffic attacked her senses.
She wondered how they were.
If Sota was doing well in school.
If her mom got that job she wanted.
If her grandfather made his roses grow.
If Ayumi got in music school as she dreamed.
If Hojo ended up dating that girl in his class.
If they had forgotten her.
If they were worried.
If she even crossed their mind.
-"Sorry, I didn't mean to pry"
He said as her eyes lowered, resting on the ground.
She smiled, but he wouldn't be fooled.
-"You didn't, It's just...I miss them"
-"Would you go back if you could?"
-"Only if I could return"
Her legs were going numb from the boy's weight as she moved him to her chest, wrapping his arms around her neck, getting up to carry him and place him next to Rin.
Sesshomaru got up with her and offered his hand.
-"I got him, thanks" she smiled and walked to lay Shippo down and made her way back to the fire, stretching her arms and legs.
She sat and admired the pretty colors of the flames, disappearing into the night.
-"How old are you Kagome?" He asked and said her name for the first time.
-"How old do you think I am?" She answered with a playful question, to see how akin he was.
-"By your eyes, I would be guessing 20"
-"You guess a person's age only by their eyes?"
Kagome was a little surprised, she wanted to know how he did it.
-"I don't guess, I know" he said smiling.
-"How about you?" She asked leaning herself on her hands, with her legs stretched, looking up to the sky "How old are you?"
-"Now it's your turn to guess" he said closing his eyes resting his head on the tree.
She knew he was older than Inuyasha, far older, in human years he looked like he was in his mid-twenties, probably 24.
-"Twenty-four?" She asked studying his face.
-"in human years, yes" he responded.
-"And in demon years?"
-"Seven hundred"
-"That's a long time to be alive" she said imagining what it must be like to live that long.
She would read every book in the world, learn as many languages as she could, travel every corner of the world.
For that, she envied him too, he had all the time of the world in his hands.
-"You're young" he said realizing she was only twenty, they had seen each other for the first time five years ago, meaning she was fifteen when they met, a young girl with a brave face and the fearless heart to threaten him with a rusty sword.
-"So are you, to me" she said looking at the sky again.
-"Where are you from?" He asked.
That was an answer to elaborate.
She realized he didn't really know anything about her, except she was a priestess and his brother's companion.
And she realized she didn't know anything about him either.
-"If I tell you, would you believe me?"
He had seen too much of the world and it's people, he had seen the dark and the light.
He had nothing to loose by believing her.
-"I'm from the future" she said "I come from a time where this is covered by steel and people, no demons or magic"
-"How far into the future?" He asked with curiosity.
-"500 years, back home we call this Edo, also sengoku jidai, where Edo is now Tokyo exists, one of the biggest cities in the world"
-"To-Ky-o" he spelled out "How come you ended up here?"
-"Well that's a longer story" she said "You've heard of the Bone Eaters Well?"
He nodded remembering the story his mother told him before sleeping, his favorite one, of the demoness who traveled in time searching for her lover through a magical Well, before this night, it was just that, a fairytale.
-"I was born with the Shikon inside of me, someone needed to destroy it, so it brought me here to fulfill the task that was meant for another, my house was built where The Well is, around probably a century ago, generations before my grandfather took care of it and then I was born, the day after my fifteenth birthday, a centipede demoness dragged me back here, she must've sensed the jewel and like that I ended up here"
-"So you didn't come here willingly"
-"I didn't, I was dragged"
-"You were the one who broke Inuyasha's seal" he said what he already knew, clicking the parts in his mind.
She nodded.
-"When I tell it like this, it feels like a badly crafted story" she thought at how absurd the situation truly was and chuckled a little hugging her knees to her chest.
-"They're here" Sesshomaru said straightening up the moment he felt Inuyasha and the other two humans he traveled with alongside the cat demon.
Kagome turned around and saw how they manifested from behind the trees, Sango resting her hand on Kirara's back as she approached Kagome and sat by her side, Inuyasha followed next with Miroku, all of them being as silent as they could trying not to wake the sleeping kids.
Inuyasha sat on the other side of Kagome and held her hand.
-"How did it go?" She asked giving him a smile.
-"All clear" Miroku said as he laid on the ground, visibly tired.
-"Nothing really" Sango said untying her hair, letting it fall over her shoulders "We haven't found anything for the last three weeks"
-"We're close though" Kagome said "Tomorrow Sesshomaru and me will go"
She looked at him and he agreed with a simple nod.
-"I'm going to sleep then" she said getting up, making her way to Shippo and Rin.
-"Good night" she said to no one.
-"Good night" Sesshomaru said back.
And everybody kept quiet.

I hope you like my story, whoever is reading.
I want to write a story where Kagome loves with no restraints and no guilt, a story where Sesshomaru has changed and grown as a person, making him socially awkward and a gentleman too.
