Chapter 4
-"We have to keep moving" Kagome said hugging her knees, a habit she had when she was feeling worried, Sesshomaru noted.
-"We only broke way for one day, we're closer"
Somehow the two of them always ended up alone at night, while everybody slept.
Talking like old friends that hadn't seen each other in years.
She didn't worry about the hours and the minutes anymore as she learnt over the years how to exist without them.
-"I'm just worried about Sango" she said thinking of the faceless village and the familiar mask.
-"She seemed tense when we were there" Sesshomaru said remembering how Sango avoided the bodies and stayed at edge.
-"I think it's hard for her" Kagome said reaching for the stick Shippo had been playing with earlier and poked at the fire.
-"Why?" Sesshomaru asked "If it's alright to know"
It wasn't a story she liked to remember.
-"Do you remember Kohaku?"
-"Her brother"
Kagome nodded.
-"He died before Naraku was killed, he had removed the shard and sent us the body" Kagome said remembering the night she found Sango outside Kaede's hut, with a body poorly wrapped in white cloths hanging on her arms.
She would never forget her face.
-"Rin asked for him many times since we last saw him" Sesshomaru said remembering the dead eyes of the boy, the same as the undead priestess.
His were empty.
-"Naraku had taken Kohaku's mind and body from him, to control him like a puppet... that day, Sango and the other slayers in her village, including her father, were called to some unknown lord's castle to execute a task, when they arrived, the strange lord revealed himself as Naraku and he took possession of Kohaku's vulnerability" she had to stop for a moment licking her lips, trying to find the sound of her voice "He killed everyone"
She wasn't sure if she could keep telling the story as she remembered Sango, how she was now sleeping next to Miroku and Inuyasha, Kirara in between them.
She had always wanted a family.
Sesshomaru listened to the story carefully as Kagome's aura wavered with her words, that by the end were only whispers.
-"I sense something strange in her" Sesshomaru said and Kagome immediately looked up to him, but his eyes were calm.
-"How so?" She ask starting to worry.
-"You know how to detect demon auras, but do you know how to do it on humans?" Sesshomaru asked her.
-"I never really got the time to train..." She said letting the stick on the ground, hiding her chin between her knees.
He could see and feel her power embracing her, like thunder waving around her, an almost electric blue, it was wild.
And he doubted it needed taming, only control.
-"Come here" he said patting the ground by his side.
She dragged her knees to the designated place and tucked her legs under her hips, only her knees supporting her.
Only being this close to him she could feel the cut of his power, contouring him like waves of wind, she could see the silver floating around, concentrating on his head like a halo.
As both their energies embraced each other, she closed her eyes feeling a small burn on her skin, vibrating.
She opened them again and noticed how Sesshomaru did the same, he opened his eyes and they both let a giggle out.
-"So? Are you going to teach me?"
-"Just try not to purify me" he said taking her hand.
-"I make no promises" she said jokingly and he shook his head.
-"Close your eyes" he said and she did so, following his voice "Imagine Sango, standing in front of you with her arms reaching yours, offering her palms, observe her, try to trace how you're feeling into her" he felt how she was tensing her body "try to release your tension, inhale" she inhaled "hold" she held "exhale" she exhaled.
He felt her body loosened and her hand stopped gripping his, palms barely touching.
-"Now create a color, try to shape it around her with your hands, as if you were decorating something, with the same feeling you would"
Kagome did so, showering her friend in pink, her favorite color, and shaped the light around her body.
-"Now let it go" she did and like an instinct she opened her eyes directly to Sango, who had a soft light around her, a pink light.
-"I see it!" Kagome said and Sesshomaru rested her hand on her side. He nodded as he too, saw the pink light glowing around Sango, concentrating in her stomach.
But it glowed harder, almost doubling up.
-"There's two..." Kagome said excited "She's having twins" she said covering her mouth, smiling.
-"Thank you" she said finally looking again at Sesshomaru.
She could feel so much in so little time, jumping through emotions.
She looked at him closer, her eyes stopping on his.
They were yellow, with little stripes of green slashing through.
-"Your eyes have green in them" she said without thinking.
-"And yours have grey" he responded looking closely at her blue eyes, a color he had never seen before, not even on demons.
She kept tracing his face and the stripes on his cheeks, a dark pink that seemed to have light of it's own.
-"Why do you have them?" She said without taking her eyes off.
-"My father had blue ones, the color of the night, my mother carries purple"
-"Oh..."
-"You have a scar between your eyebrows" he said noticing the faint little line in between her eyebrows.
She took her hand to it and turned to the side braking their admiration.
She laughed remembering how she got it.
-"My brother pushed me from my bicycle and I landed on my face" she said still feeling the pain of her skinned cheek and Sota's alarmed apologies, how she missed him.
-"You have a brother?"
She nodded crossing her legs.
-"How old is he?"
-"He's nine"
He looked at Shippo and Rin sleeping in front of them, a little further away.
-"Do you miss him?"
-"Everyday"
Her voice died as she looked at the sleeping kids in front of her.
Sesshomaru eyes diverted towards the night sky and the moon hiding in between the trees.
Only catching glimpses of her light.
He could feel the sadness again dawning on her.
-"I didn't mean to bring back painful memories" he said looking at her again "we'll find a way for you to return" he finally said and Kagome looked at him.
-"You don't have to-"
-"I want to" he said before she could protest.
-"Sesshomaru?"
-"Yes?"
-"You told me you had nowhere to go, but you have a palace and I imagine subjects and alliances, you're the lord of the west, the son of Toga" he turned his head to look at her "why follow us?"
She asked him the question that had been sinking on her mind since he told her he had nothing to go back to.
-"I didn't want to be alone" he said looking at his feet "I knew, I somehow knew you would forgive me and let Rin and me accompany you in the battle that also involved me" he clenched his jaw a little "I wanted to make things right with Inuyasha"
If somebody told her five years ago, this was going to happen, she would've never believed it.
But now, it almost felt like a secret.
She had never been able to have conversations like this with anyone, only with Miroku, on very rare occasions, talks that felt like an unspoken agreement, a lending hand.
A held of hands.
She smiled and they both stared at the stars for what was left of the night.
