A/N: So this is it. It's all led to this. I had played around with the idea of doing an adaptation of Apokolips War, since I enjoy making this huge crisis stories, and I decided screw it, I already adapted the first Justice League Dark film into the CW/Horror-verse. Why not do this one too?
So, quick reminder from the prologue of Dark Legends 3, in this timeline, Legends of Tomorrow doesn't go past the middle of season 3, because I had them all killed off during the first Dark Legends story.
Arrow, Flash, and Supergirl are similar, except that because Damien Darhk killed Reverse Flash during the first Dark Legends, Thawne's plan during Flash season 5 does not happen, and Barry takes down Cicada without Nora's help. Season 6 still happens, but without Crisis on Infinite Earths. The crisis happens in 2024, like in the newspaper, and I've changed it so Reverse Flash DOES appear, but as a time remnant like in season 2. They go back in time and all that, and Barry doesn't vanish. And Iris gets saved from the mirror dimension, and they defeat Mirror Master.
Arrow season 6 carries on, although Black Siren is fully on Oliver's side, and they bring Ricardo Diaz to justice. Oliver doesn't go to prison, so the first half of season 7 doesn't happen, but they do fight Emiko and the Ninth Circle. Season 8 doesn't happen at all.
Supergirl mostly carries on like normal, since her Earth is separate from Barry's and Oliver's, until they merge during Crisis. That crossover still plays out like it did on tv, except that the Batman I introduced at the end of Dark Legends 1 takes Kate Kane's place. Batwoman doesn't exist at all. The Jim Corrigan Spectre fights the Anti-Monitor, instead of Oliver Queen, and Lucifer Morningstar helps them, since I placed him on the same Earth before the crossover aired.
The Justice League still gets formed, consisting of Superman, Flash, Green Arrow, Black Siren, Supergirl, Martian Manhunter, and Batman, with their allies joining as well. John Diggle becomes Green Lantern, and meets Hal Jordan, who became the first human Green Lantern after that cameo in the season 4 premiere of Arrow.
Lex Luthor, being the sly manipulator he is, also gets his way into the Justice League, though everyone is suspicious of him.
Oh, and the Barclays, Jason Voorhees, and Gibb Smith from my previous stories help out the League too on occasion.
The JL Watchtower is built in space, so that the League can monitor the Earth.
And that brings us to the here and now. Keep in mind, this is heavily adapting the latest animated film Apokolips War, with a few creative liberties. For one, Nora Darhk and Ray Palmer aren't a thing, since I killed Ray off with the rest of the Legends, and the adult version of Nora was wiped from existence.
And I inserted some elements from the DCeased comic series, to keep a little bit of that horror vibe.
Apokolips
2033
Darkseid, one of the New Gods and ruler of Apokolips, strode through the halls of his citadel, as his loyal servant Desaad approached him.
"Lord Darkseid, I bring good news." Desaad grinned through his purple hood. "We have located the Anti-Life Equation!"
"Where is it?" Darkseid's voice boomed, as if the very planet shook. His rock hard face, gray as stone and crowned in a blue alloy, wore the same blank frown, while his eyes glowed red.
"It is within Mobius, the Anti-Monitor." Desaad informed.
"I see." Darkseid mused. "We must capture him as soon as possible."
"No need." Desaad smirked. "You see, I took the liberty of capturing the Anti-Monitor from the microverse after those pitiful Earthlings stopped him from annihilating the multiverse, however, placing all of us on their own Earth."
"Perhaps I should thank them." Darkseid said with indifference. "If not for the so-called 'heroes', I would not have my hands on the equation."
"Quite true, Lord Darkseid." Desaad bowed, as two of their mindless, winged drones, known as parademons, entered the throne room, pushing a mechanized and hovering chair towards them.
"Mobius. The Anti-Monitor. How the mighty have fallen." Darkseid smiled cruelly. "To think you could destroy the multiverse."
"If not for Mar Novu-" the Anti-Monitor snarled, but was interrupted.
"Silence!" Darkseid roared, as his eyes began glowing orange. "This universe is mine to enslave! And with your help, my goal will be realized!"
At that moment, the hovering chair activated, shocking the Anti-Monitor with deadly electricity. At the same time, orange lazer beams shot out of Darkseid's eyes, curving at a ninety degree angle, before striking Mobius. The Anti-Monitor yelled in pain, as a stream of red and white energy travelled up through the beams and into Darkseid's head.
"I… I see it… I know the equation!" Darkseid exclaimed from pure satisfaction. He closed his eyes for a moment, feeling clarity at achieving his lifelong goal, when his lips curled into a horrifying grin.
"Desaad, I believe I know the perfect way to destroy these Earthlings." Darkseid smiled, giving his servant shivers down his spine. "Throughout my time and travelling across the multiverse, I have fought these heroes, the Justice League, many times. And each time they have stopped me for two reasons. The first, because I sought to merely enslave the inhabitants of Earth, but some resisted."
"And what is the second reason, sire?" Desaad asked.
"Every incarnation of the Justice League has faced me before- except this one." Darkseid smiled. "I require you to pull a being out of the speed force known as the Black Flash. He was once a speedster from Earth known as Hunter Zolomon, but the speed force corrupted him to do its bidding. An admirable strategy, to deprive him of his free will."
"Yes, sire." Desaad smirked, his hands clutching around a golden cube. The box began glowing blue, and a portal of the same color erupted in the room. A flash of crimson lightning exited from the portal, but was quickly grabbed by Darkseid. In his grip was a man in a black suit, with a red lightning emblem on his chest, and a horribly disfigured face.
"The Black Flash. The Speed Force's top enforcer." Darkseid smirked. "And to think Savitar had killed you by merely freezing you."
Desaad stepped forward with a type of metallic tool with a tube attached, sticking one end into the chest of the Anti-Monitor, and jamming the other into the Black Flash's head. A thick, black fluid, lined with red lightning, travelled from the Black Flash and into the Anti-Monitor's body, and the being began to spew bile from his mouth.
"Now send him to this Earth Prime." Darkseid grinned.
"Yes, Lord Darkseid." Desaad bowed, watching as the Black Flash withered away from his energy being drained. The servant grabbed the same golden box, and a blue portal opened, sucking the Anti-Monitor in.
"What now, sire?"
"I shall wait." Darkseid smiled, sitting at his throne. "The Earth will be torn apart by its own inhabitants. The heroes will be shattered, and should any decide to come here, then, I shall mind mold them into my Furies. Desaad, send Apokolips through a boom tube to Earth. I wish to see the results of my work up close."
"Yes, my Lord."
Los Angeles
Lucifer Morningstar strolled in through the LAPD precinct, barely containing his grin as he walked right up to Chloe Decker's desk.
"Good morning, Detective!" Lucifer yelled, but frowned soon after. Chloe had barely looked up.
"Chloe, are you alright?"
"No Lucifer, I'm not." Chloe said, puzzled. "I just received a report that this fell out of the sky."
Decker handed Lucifer a picture of a withered, white skinned man with purple armor and cut tubes lying face down in the middle of the street, with cracks forming around his body.
"The Anti-Monitor." Lucifer shrugged, remembering the false god and the Crisis back in 2024. "Guess someone finally gave him the business."
"That's not the weirdest part though." Chloe told him, showing her computer monitor. On the screen, in flashing words, was the phrase:
"Loneliness + alienation + fear + despair + self-worth ÷ mockery ÷ condemnation ÷ misunderstanding × guilt × shame × failure × judgment n=y where y=hope and n=folly, love=lies, life=death, self=dark side."
"The Anti-Life Equation." Lucifer gasped, looking outside in time to see a red and black planet suddenly teleport above Earth's atmosphere. The planet spewed fire from its exhausts, and it appeared it was made entirely out of metal and technology.
Morningstar turned back to Chloe, confused as to why she seemed… normal.
"You still feel you have free will?" Lucifer asked, cautious. "The Equation is supposed to bend you to the user's will."
"I'm immune to your power of seeing what someone desires." Chloe reasoned. Just then, Lucifer and Chloe looked across the precinct, seeing everyone staring at their monitors, and began to scratch themselves.
"Lucifer, what's happening?" Chloe asked, frightened.
"I don't know." Lucifer stammered. "The Equation is not supposed to do that…"
The infected police officers turned towards the pair, and began charging them. Decker pulled her pistol, but hesitated, causing the officers to swarm her and begin to bite her.
"Chloe!" Lucifer yelled, using his supernatural strength to fight off some of these zombie like officers, but was scratched and bitten himself because Decker made him vulnerable. The Devil finally made it to Chloe, and unfurled his wings, enveloping them both to try to protect her.
"I'm so sorry, Chloe." Lucifer wept, as he pulled his cellphone out. After a few taps of the keypad, he pressed the call button for a certain caller. Not a person specifically, more like an organization.
Justice League
"Lucifer to Justice League, Earth is under attack!" Morningstar yelled into his final, biting back a scream as he felt his wings being ripped apart. "It's Darkseid! He corrupted the Anti-Life Equation somehow!"
That was all Lucifer could say, before the zombified police officers tore through the remains of his wings, and ripped Morningstar and Decker limb from limb. The last thing Lucifer saw before his death was Chloe Decker, with her throat torn out and the light leaving her eyes.
Justice League Watchtower
Gibb Smith and Jason Voorhees laid in bed, with the former tossing and turning. For the past few days, Gibb had been getting dreams of herself, but more psychotic, with a Jason that never went into the Lazarus Pit. Every time they would almost kill her, she would wake up, her body drenched in sweat, and tonight was no different.
Jason looked over, seeing his lover sitting upright in bed.
"Another nightmare?" Jason asked. Gibb nodded.
"It felt so real… but Freddy's gone." Smith told herself. Jason's mouth formed a tight line, and he stood up, walking over to their room's window.
"For what it's worth, I'm glad we decided to join the League." Gibb said softly, walking towards Jason.
"I did it for you." Jason turned to look at her, but stopped, seeing a gigantic red and black orb teleport right next to the Earth, blotting out the sun.
"What... is... that?"
"I'm… I'm not sure." Gibb stuttered. "Is that a moon?"
"Moon's don't spew fire." Jason pointed out, as some type of geyser shot out flames. Just as they turned around, John Constantine ran in, stopping when he came upon the pair.
"Oh good, you're awake." Constantine sighed. "I assume you've seen the change of scenery?"
"Yes." Gibb nodded. "That's why you're here?"
"The League is calling an emergency meeting. It's not just about that." John informed. "Come on. Everyone else is waiting."
Gibb and Jason threw on their usual clothes, being the jean jacket and the tattered brown coat, and walked to the Watchtower's bridge, finding most of the League and their allies there. The Green Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Superman, among others were there, including Andy Barclay and his niece Alice Pierce. To Constantine's right were Lex Luthor, Hawkman and Hawkgirl, with Martian Manhunter and John Diggle, while to Gibb's left was Killer Frost, Vibe, and Querl Dox, also known as Brainiac 5, or Brainy for short. Next to the Green Arrow was Laurel Lance of Earth Two, better known as Black Siren.
"Thank you all for coming on short notice." Superman told everyone. "Some of you know what this is about, but I'm here to clarify: we are facing a crisis unlike anything we've seen before. Just minutes ago, something entered Earth's orbit, and is currently blocking out the sun."
"This can only be seen as an act of war." Kara decided. "This Darkseid wants to crush the Earth under its heel, and will use any means to do so."
"Are we sure he's planning on doing it now, or a hundred years from now?" Barry asked.
"Minutes after that planet entered the orbit, we received a call from Lucifer Morningstar that a being named Darkseid has harnessed the Anti-Life Equation, and corrupted it to turn a large percentage of Earth into zombie-like creatures." Green Arrow added. "Once we discovered it was being transmitted through the Internet, Overwatch created a web nuke from the Calculator's original plans and shut down every server world wide, but the disease is spreading fast."
The Arrow paused, allowing the League members to recover from their shock.
"Morningstar and Chloe Decker, as well as their family, were among the first casualties." Superman continued, with a heavy heart. "I have heard that Batman was also infected, but he sacrificed himself, rather than be turned into a monster."
"And I had heard that Wally and Jessie had evacuated several inhabitants out of Central City." Oliver turned towards Flash. "But Iris… I'm sorry Barry."
"I want to make this clear; we are facing a threat to the planet." Superman spoke up again. "We can't wait for this 'Darkseid' to strike again. That could be the end of us all. We must attack now."
"This is insane!" Lex shouted. "Do you even know if we can win against Darkseid? We should send a reconnaissance unit to scout whatever is blocking the sun!"
"No!" Clark yelled, smashing his fist into a nearby metal table. Gibb's eyes widened, as the table splintered as if it was made of wood.
"Look at what he's done to Earth already! We can't wait!"
"That means Earth will be ground zero in a world war." Alice Pierce said. "I know that Barry told you all about Flashpoint, but I did my own fuck up. It nearly cost the entire world to get destroyed by the Dominators. A truly global war would mean death and destruction on a scale that you wouldn't believe. Everyone would be at risk."
"Alice is right." John added his two cents. "Sure we need to fight back, but we can't just kick the hornet's nest. We're not all bulletproof you know."
"This isn't up for debate." Superman said in a low voice. "We will be taking two of the jets in the hangar. The rest of Teams Arrow and Flash will stay behind to fight off the infected, and hopefully find a cure."
The rest of the League reluctantly nodded, and they set off to the hangar. While walking, Superman activated a wrist watch to communicate with his wife, Lois Lane.
"Have all outlets to the Internet been disabled on Earth?" Clark asked.
"Yes honey." Lois smiled.
"I want you to get somewhere safe."
"I still have a job to do, Smallville. Even if I can't fight this war, or the outbreak, I still have to report on it."
"Stay safe out there." Clark reminded his wife.
"You too, Clark." Lois grinned. "I love you."
Before Kent could say the same thing, the line disconnected, leaving him disappointed.
"Oi, Supes! We're leaving!" Constantine called out, prompting Superman to enter one of the jets. The planes took off, leaving the Watchtower hangar, and went straight towards the fiery red planet.
"Are you nervous?" Alice asked her uncle Andy.
"Not really." Barclay shrugged. "More scared for Nica's safety. Could use a cig though."
"Sorry Andy, I'm fresh out." Constantine grumbled. "Gibb and Jason convinced me to stop."
"You would've died of lung cancer." Voorhees pointed out, just as the jets entered the atmosphere of the hellish planet.
"That must be Darkseid's command tower." Querl Dox pointed towards a tower that was taller than all the rest.
"Then let's start there." Green Arrow decided. Mere seconds after he said that, a swarm of winged… monsters began flying out of the tower, and coming straight towards the League's jets.
"Picking up life forms." Green Arrow announced. "What the Hell are those?"
The swarm of winged demons got closer, revealing golden armor, three fingers with claws, and sharpened teeth. On their chests was an omega symbol. The swarm flew around the jets, making it difficult for the League members to see outside of the planes.
"Oh bollocks." Constantine said fearfully, just as one of these demonic monsters smashed its heads through the glass. The jet began spinning out of control, crash landing several yards in front of the tower, and everyone momentarily blacked out.
A/N: Alright, there's the prologue chapter! The opening scene with the Anti-Monitor and Darkseid was supposed to be a nod to the Darkseid War comic, where the two of them duke it out. And yeah, the Anti-Life Equation being corrupted isn't the same from the comic, but Cyborg doesn't exist in the CW yet, and I recently read that in the current comics, the Anti-Monitor has the equation.
I killed off Lucifer because if I kept him around, he could easily just wipe out Darkseid by himself. Even though it's the Fox/Netflix version, who is seriously nerfed, I'm applying his powers from the comics here. Also, he knows about Darkseid, being as old as creation itself, but the Justice League don't. That's why they got their asses handed to them, and Darkseid didn't even need to create paradooms like in the animated film.
Last thing, this is an alternate timeline where A Tale of Two Andys didn't happen. This is just one of the many futures Dr Strange predicted. That will make sense at the end.
