Day 1: Subtle Dating At Its Finest

There was something incredibly annoying about parents setting their children up with someone. Sasuke appreciated the concern his mother had about his love life but he was an adult who can make his own decisions.

Sasuke Uchiha was twenty-five years old, graduated from grad school, and started a new job as a lawyer. He has a lot on his mind at the moment and he did not need his mother pestering him about his love life because she was 'feeling her youth slip away' and she just 'needs grandkids.'

He would tell her that she had another son to worry about and pester but that didn't deter her.

No matter what he told her, she would ask and wonder out loud when he was in the room when her babies would settle down and have their own babies.

One day, she just stopped. Sasuke could've done a happy dance if he was anyone other than himself because Sasuke Uchiha doesn't do happy dances.

It looked like there was something that held his mother's attention. Something that he was grateful to.

One day, Mikoto asked Sasuke to pick up something for her and he didn't even question her.

Sasuke entered the threshold and took in the decorated cafe with lavender-colored walls and one wall with exposed brick. The small cafe didn't have enough to hold a lot of sitting space beside the counter in front of the window to make room for the counter and refrigerator to display their desserts. A large painting with a vintage picture frame hung on the exposed brick wall. It was a quaint cafe, tucked between the larger buildings next door but it looked like it had enough business judging by the other customers.

He stepped up the counter, there stood a young woman with long dark, with a hint of blue, hair and a gentle smile. He was almost reminded of his mother except for her eyes a white with a hint of something else. "Hi. How can I help you?"

"I'm here to pick up something for Mikoto Uchiha." Sasuke responded and he could see a slight recognition.

"Oh yes! Mikoto-san couldn't make it today?" The woman asked as she pulled up a post-it note. "She usually comes by to pick up something."

Sasuke knows that she was just trying to make conversation and if it was anyone else, he probably would've given her a curt response but something told him that she probably wouldn't appreciate responses like that. And if she was asking about his mother like they were friends, he was sure that the word would go down to Mikoto and Sasuke would not hear the end of it.

"Um no. She had to do something, I suppose," Sasuke said. "She sent me to pick up whatever she ordered."

"Ah yes." The woman nodded as she turned around to pick up a brown paper bag that he suspected to be the food that Mikoto ordered. Now that he thought about it, his mother started to have different types of pastries at their home. Sasuke didn't notice until much later since he doesn't particularly have a fondness for sweets like his mother and brother.

"Here you go," She said, placing the bag on the white counter between the two of them. "The lavender milk tea might take a little bit. I hope that's okay."

"Mn."

She looked at him, almost waiting for a verbal response but when she realized she wasn't going to get any, she just smiled lightly. "While you wait, is there anything that you might be interested in? We just finished making some more pastries."

"No thanks," Sasuke answered. "Not a sweets person."

He would've moved past it but he heard an audible gasp coming from the woman. Her gasp made it sound like he committed a cardinal sin. He raised an eyebrow at her, what he calls, unnecessary reaction. "How can you not like desserts?" She asked.

He shrugged. "It's just not my thing."

"I think you just never tried any good ones." She insisted. "There are so many. There is no way you can't find one you like."

"Well, I just don't like any of them," Sasuke noted. "Besides sugary foods rot your teeth."

"That's because you brush your teeth incorrectly. Sweets are just happiness in food form."

"Yeah right." Sasuke said indignantly.

Hinata crossed her arms over her chest and pouted. It was so ridiculous that Sasuke was starting to find it...cute. "Trust me. You should definitely try some."

Sasuke scoffed at that notion.

"We have some that aren't terribly sweet. What about crepe cake? Sponge cake? Cheesecake?" She started listing a bunch of different pastries. It got so long that she started to speak french. How many sweets does this woman know?

It might be that as he watched her babble on that he noticed her features. Her snowy white skin contrasted her dark navy blue hair but it didn't hide the fact that her eyes were like pearls. Not to mention the fact that while her personality and demeanor made it seem like she was pure and innocent, her body was something he would've guessed from her voice and tone alone. Her body was like an hourglass with plump breasts and a waist that was like a slope down to her full hips. He got the chance to look at her nametag and get a name to her face.

Hinata

He just watched as she thought carefully about more desserts to list. She seemed so shy at first but when he practically insulted what she makes for a living, she was passionate and insistent that she gives him something to ultimately change his mind.

"Fine," Sasuke said suddenly and she paused to look at him. He would chuckle at how she looked like a rabbit when something caught its attention, ears perked up and mouth agape. "How about you take me to your favorite spots and we'll have to decide if my tongue is useless." He proposed.

It took her a few seconds to decide but her small smile gave him his answer.

"Great. I already have three places in mind."

Sasuke was a little bit later than usual and Mikoto knew that it would not take him this long to pick up something from the cafe that she had been obsessed with for a few weeks.

After a shopping trip downtown, Mikoto found a small cafe, and being completely parched, she stepped inside to get a drink. Not only did she find her new favorite drink, but she also found Hinata Hyuuga, the owner of the cafe. She was helpful, kind, and absolutely gorgeous.

Getting to know the woman a bit more with her weekly visits to the shop, Mikoto had concluded that she was perfect for her son, Sasuke.

But he didn't appreciate her attempts to set him up with a friend's daughters and if she had told him about her, he would've definitely been deterred so maybe she had asked him to stop by one day for her to maybe meet Hinata by himself. She didn't coerce him to do anything. Just doing a favor for her.

Mikoto was nervous when he was late and watched the door and clock. But when she heard the sound of the car rolling in the driveway, Mikoto ran to the kitchen and pulled out a magazine, flipping through its pages but not bothering to read its content. Totally casual.

Sasuke entered the house and shut the front door close, dropping the keys in the bowl that was by the door and slipped his shoes off. His hand was occupied with the brown paper bag of sweets and a cup tray holding his mother's lavender milk tea, freshly brewed, and a cup of black coffee.

He entered the kitchen to find his mother leafing through the pages of the New Yorker on the marble counter.

"Hello, mother."

"Sasuke, you're back." She greeted him with a smile. He placed the bag on the counter and the cup of her milk tea near her. "Thank you, sweetie. Sorry for having to make you go for me. I had that thing I had to do."

Sasuke shrugged. "No problem." He took a sip of his coffee and Mikoto swore she could see some scribble on his cup that looked kind of like a phone number.

"So...how was your trip?" Mikoto asked, her tone hinting there was something she was keeping from her son.

"Fine. I picked up your order and went." He responded. Sasuke wasn't an idiot though.

"Nothing? Oh dear, didn't you think Hinata-chan was sweet?"

Oh, the irony.

"I don't know." He shrugged once more and walked towards the exit to go upstairs to his room. But before he left his mother alone in the kitchen, he turned around to face her with a smirk on his face. "I'll find out this weekend." And left before he could get attacked by his squealing mother.

With the plans he made with Hinata Hyuuga, maybe he'll find out that there was one sweet thing he could tolerate.

A/N: Long time no post! Sasuhina Month 2021 is finally here!

I was not quite sure what "subtle dating" is so I just came up with whatever I guess. I just wanted to write Mikoto in a fic and the idea of a parent trying to set their kid with someone is just funny (until its you).

I did plan on writing for this month because I wanted to challenge myself to write a bit more. I plan to write for some of the prompts for this month and am looking forward to it.

Note: I don't have a beta so if there are issues with grammar or anything like that, I apologize and please let me know.

Let's all enjoy writing and reading about our favorite ship, SASUHINA!
