A/N: Hello everyone! I just wanna thank everyone who has expressed their support for this story so far! I probably wouldn't have the motivation to keep going with it without it, and it means the world that you all support my work.
Side note for our friend, Jack. 'Fraid you have a pretty flawed understanding on the point of armor, color choice and arsenal selection. Let's go down the list:
1. Your reasoning behind why armor is "useless" is basically like saying "Body Armor is useless because rocket launchers and .50 caliber rifles exist." You fail to realize that aura can be broken down through attrition and doesn't protect against sneak attacks. Body armor will protect against the latter, such as shrapnel from an unknown bomb or a bullet in the dark, same point of the helmet. If aura is broken, the user is left exposed to all the smaller things, like shrapnel or more COMMON weapons. Realistically, most combatants aren't toting around Hunter grade weaponry, and if things go wrong ones aura can still be broken through fighting them. Better to have some protection as opposed to none if that happens.
2. Yes, the color scheme is a little bland. I'm just gonna assume you weren't thinking about concealment in dark environments. Little lesson in stealth, a bright, vibrant, exciting color scheme may look cool, but it's incredibly impractical. Good luck blending in with a bright red cloak, Snow White dress or shiny steel plates.
3. Why would she bring something so dangerous to a mission where she didn't originally intend to kill? Reason she'd bring something so deadly is the same reason soldiers and police carry lead bullets alongside rubber ones during riot suppression. The intention isn't to kill anyone, but if shit hits the fan and your only option is to kill, you don't wanna be caught with only non-lethal options.
Sorry if it feels like a call-out, but when someone takes a shot like that, I just gotta correct em...
She had returned to an empty room and an undisturbed note, which she burned to cover her tracks, after being led down to a secret level of the campus, apparently the Spec Ops HQ, and briefed on... well, a lot. An invincible Grimm leader, her own Headmaster's ancient origins, Maidens, Magic, Gods, and a brief history of the organization. Apparently now she was privy to information not even Uncle Qrow was, which went to say just how much he trusted Ruby even over him... but then again, it was the downsides of his personality that made him a poor fit, not his character or skills. He was liable to dwell on failures, and tried to use his semblance as an excuse for much of the things in his life going wrong... not to mention that he could fall prey to depressed phases. Pyrrha was also a consideration at some point, but was disqualified from being approached to join due to lacking any real harsh side, something she initially would've though would applied to herself too.
Nevertheless, she had assured that the secrets of the organization and of Spec Ops would die with her if not given permission to say anything, and she intended to make good on that promise when her time came. Ruby was no fool, there was no guarantee of ANY safety on any of her operations going forward. If she was discovered during an op or things went south, there would be no additional support besides her squad. Not her Beacon team, though for any regular hunter ops she could request additional support as needed.
No, her squad was larger by one member, far more elite. She didn't know what squad she'd be assigned to, but squads sized at 5 members per, and if the other squads she'd seen down there were any indication by how they acted, they were all EXTREMELY close. As one of them had said when she asked, "When your whole squad has to get nude in one sleeping bag to conserve body heat so you don't freeze to death, you best bet you all gotta be real fuckin close..."
"Yeah... that sounds like it'd be reason enough to get so close." Ruby mused aloud, before laying out a towel and disassembling her weapons, pulling out a cleaning kit and getting to work. She hadn't necessarily put that many rounds rounds downrange, but it was best to do a thorough cleaning anyways. It didn't take long to clean it all up, but after it was done, she walked her gear and the reassembled and freshly cleaned weapons down to her locker, and stowed it all away.
It was about 2200 when she got back to her room, only mere minutes before her team had stumbled through the door. They all looked ragged and a little wasted, although that was really none of her business, just as her new work would be none of theirs... however, their gawking at her was a little curious to her, as normally they wouldn't bat an eyelash at her...
"What?" Ruby asked curtly, raising a brow at them though trying not to adopt a scathing tone. They may have wronged her, but that was no reason to start a fight, especially when she was in such a good mood.
"Oh, uh... nothing, just uh... when did you get... y'know... cut?" Yang asked, pointing at her abdomen. It was that moment that Ruby remembered that she had removed her shirt as she came into the room. A brief once over revealed that she was developing in the sense Yang had mentioned, and though noticeable it wasn't like she looked as if she was cut from stone. Not particularly caring too much or having paid attention to it anyways, she just dismissed it.
"Been working out, what can I say?" She replied, before nearly folding the combat shirt and putting it in her dresser. "We have tests and sparring matches tomorrow, and you all reek of booze. Take a shower and get to bed, all of you."
They were all surprised with the authoritative tone she addressed them with. Normally if Ruby wanted something of them it was dealt with in a polite, gentle manner. Usually she used words like "can you," "would you," and "please..." but this time there was none of that. This time it wasn't a polite request, it was an order. Of course, they listened to what she demanded of them, though none of them looked all too comfortable as they did so.
Ruby herself intended to take her shower last, after all, a good leader had to put the needs of her subordinates before her own... even if she wasn't pleased with them in the slightest...
"Inconsiderate as always..." Ruby grumbled as she scrubbed herself down in the shower. They didn't have the common courtesy to leave her any hot water, so she had to make due showering in a cold one. It was obnoxious, to be sure, but she dealt with it. All she had to do was apply all her proper soaps and washes, rinse off, dry off, get dressed, and go to bed. A simple order, easy to follow, worked well enough.
Waking up the following morning however wasn't the most pleasant thing in the world to deal with. None of the girls were hung over, but that didn't make them any less annoying. Weiss harped on her for... something. She was honestly tuning her out because whatever it was, she narrowed it down to being unimportant after the first few sentences. Yang was taking up the bathroom doing her hair, and Blake was... reading... like always. She occupied herself with some basic physical training while they took up the space. Push ups, crunches, things like that and their variations.
Nevertheless, she managed to get everyone out the door in a timely fashion, and to Professor Port's class 10 minutes early. Prime time to get the seats they wanted. Ruby was last in, and, surprising her friends yet again, chose to sit alone, away from them. They were about to bring it up, but Professor Port walked in just in time for her to avoid the headache of her team's interrogation...
"Team RWBY! Why, you all are here early! Are you all ready for your tests today?" He laughed boisterously, drawing somewhat nervous looks out of Yang and Blake, a confident smirk from Weiss, and indifference from their leader. "Miss Rose! I don't believe I've ever seen you so nonchalant about anything before. Do you believe you're ready?"
"There's no need for belief when I know with certainty that I am." She replied, not bothering to rise up from her laid back posture. Her behavior earned her a curious look from all present, and another hearty laugh from the Professor.
"Oh ho! Confidence! I like it! See to it you don't disappoint, eh?" He responded, before turning away from Ruby and heading up to the front of the room. Other students, other early arrivals, had started trickling in one by one, although they were paid no more attention than what her team had received from her today. Soon enough, even JNPR piled in, taking their seats by WBY and taking out everything they needed for class...
"Well, students! You've had a whole week and a weekend to prepare and study, so I hope for the best from all of you!" The Professor announced with a jovial tone, drawing mixed reactions from the rest of the room. Ruby's expression was stagnant.
The test was an absolute breeze. Damn near all the questions were word-for-word with the notes he'd given last week, and she'd all but memorized them. Despite being given a full hour, she completed it in half the time, although she took an extra ten to double check and make sure to add in everything she could for extra credit. That left her with 20 minutes to spare, time she used to go over her notes for Oobleck's class, not that she was concerned.
"Alright everyone, settle down!" Port began, clearing g his throat before continuing. "You'll all know the results of your labor tomorrow, but from what I saw on the front page of most packets, many of you man wish to consider seeing me after hours. That is all, you may proceed to your next class now. And remember, remain vigilant!"
Ruby was the first out, having already packed up her stuff, although she opted to wait for her team to exit before she made way for Oobleck's... she didn't notice the sideways looks she received from her team as she led the way...
The results were more or less the same, and Ruby left the same way she had before, leading the way to Glynda's combatives class. This time she was actually somewhat excited, as she knew she had a match against Pyrrha lined up for today. She wanted to see if her counter to the "Invincible Girl" would be effective, although to her understanding it would work just fine against just about anyone here other than Nora... that girl's semblance meant she needed a more tailored solution for that one.
She didn't waste any time waiting to be told what she needed to do, however she was surprised when Miss Goodwitch approached her while she was in the middle of changing into combat attire...
"Can I help you, Miss Goodwitch?"
"Just Glynda is fine when away from other students, Ruby. Your status within the organization means we have to be on a first-name basis relation-wise." She waved off the formalities, before leaning up against the adjacent locker. "I take it you have a counter to Miss Nikos in mind?"
"Yeah. If it works out she'll be down for the count within five to ten seconds after my play. If it doesn't, I've other means of countering her." Ruby replied, easing her shoulders as she threw her vest over her combat shirt. She clipped every buckle, affixed all her magazines how she liked, and swapped out everything necessary to convert to 7.62x51. After that, Ruby threw all her secondary equipment on, like grenades, her EM shield generator, shemagh, her sidearm, helmet, the works. She didn't bother with a balaclava, since everyone here already knew her.
"Well, try not to push her to use her semblance on you too heavily. Can't imagine that would be pleasant." Glynda chuckled, before giving her a pat on the shoulder and taking her leave. Ruby have a curious look, before returning to her kit. She didn't bother with taking the assault pack for this. Took too much time to access and complicated movement. Instead she just buckled her camelback to the back of her vest, linked the drinking tube up at the front for ease of access.
With a small chuckle, Ruby cracked her neck back and forth, before adjusting her helmet how she liked, locked and loaded her weapons, and began her last double-check. After counting off everything, she closed up her locker, and made her way for the sparring arena...
There was a sort of collective shock through the room when they saw the dramatic change that had occurred to Ruby, though she chalked it up to her old attire doing more to conceal any natural features than show em off. Her new gear was a complete opposite in comparison, being tailored to show off what used to be hidden. She revel in the awe of the room for only a moment, before refocusing on her opponent.
Pyrrha Nikos was a strong opponent, even without her semblance, the girl's skill was just absurd. With her old style, she did little better than CRDL did against her... but this time, the skill difference, she hoped, wouldn't mean so much. Using equipment, tactics and strategies as opposed to outright skill to defeat a superior foe, she intended to not let this be a fight, but an outright domination.
"Are both combatants ready?" Glynda asked through her speaker, with both parties donning a laser-focused expression as they narrowed their gaze upon each other. Ruby however entered an odd stance, placing her right foot forward and pivoting both 90 degrees to the left, before taking her left hand off the foregrip of her rifle, clicking something on the small of her back and I clipping something from her belt. A few low beeps that gradually grew quicker and lighter in tone emanated from whatever it was she had, before eventually growing silent. Pyrrha had entered her usual stance, something Ruby was hoping for.
Nothing more than a quick nod was needed after that, giving Glynda all the motivation she needed to start the match.
"Then let the match... begin!"
Ruby acted first, stealing the initiative and tossing the cylindrical device up into the air and coiling back. She looked away and faced the ensuing electrical pulse with her shoulder. Her shield glowed bright blue as the pulse washed over her, fizzling out as it passed and leaving herself unaffected.
Pyrrha, however, had no such protection, and the lightning-like speed of the pulse was far too fast for her to react. The blast sent waves of rippling electricity racing back and forth across her whole body, forcing painful spasms from the girl as her guard was thrown wide open. All she could do was clench her jaw to keep from screaming and raise her aura as Ruby rose upright, drew a bead on her, and squeezed the trigger while making a staggered advance upon her.
The full auto spray of 7.62 bullets against Pyrrha's unprotected chest proved utterly devastating as the force of the impacting bullets threw her to the floor, where Ruby dumped the last 8 rounds in the 20 round magazine into Pyrrha's face and chest. And with that, the buzzer rang, as the "Invincible Girl's" aura dipped below 15%, the disqualifying percentage for arena battles...
"Game. Set. Match." Ruby said plainly, swapping out magazines, releasing the bolt, switching the weapon to safe, and dropping to a more relaxed stance. Nonetheless, she offered Pyrrha a hand up, which she gladly took with a nervous, bashful smile.
"And that, everyone, is the match. Miss Rose is the winner in a landslide victory with a full aura to spare." Glynda announced, before looking to the combatants on the ground. "That was a very well thought out counter-strategy, Miss Rose. Miss Nikos, I hope you'll learn from this defeat."
"Y-yes, Miss Goodwitch... it was a humbling experience." Pyrrha sighed out before looking at Ruby.
"Miss Goodwitch, I'd like another opponent." Ruby declared, drawing shocked gasps from all present. Glynda only smiled in turn, before nodding for Pyrrha to take her leave from the arena floor, and began the randomizer for Ruby's new opponent...
"It would seem we have a brawl in the family today. Miss Rose, your opponent will be Miss Xiao Long." She announced with a stoic face but an almost giddy voice, just barely restrained. "Miss Xiao Long, ready yourself for battle. If last match was any indication, you'll need to be on your toes and ready for anything."
Yang gave a hearty laugh, before making her way to her locker. It only took a few short minutes for the buxom blonde to return in her usual combat attire. Glynda began the countdown once again, and Ruby entered the same stance as before, making Yang grin from ear to ear...
"I got more aura reserves than Pyrrha, and when stunned mine strengthens! Sorry sis, but your little Pyrrha-counter won't work on me!" Yang thought, but ate her words as the match began and Ruby rolled a completely different canister her way with a sort of deep red gas spewing from the top. A second look towards Ruby showed her affixing something to her face... "wait... shit, that's a gas mask!"
Yang realized that she had absolutely no counter to attacks like this, and decided that she needed to finish the fight ASAP. If she could goad Ruby into attacking her, it would only be easier, as she'd only get madder and hit harder, faster...
And yet, Ruby opted to take an evasive approach, keeping distance and evading any punches or shots thrown her way, not returning fire. The dance went on for about a minute, before Ruby noticed her sister start to stumble in the gas, her fiery red eyes that appeared when the gas was first realized rapidly shifting back down to their normal lilac...
"Riot suppression gas. Non-lethal, causes physical sluggishness, weakness, and heightened physical sensitivity... subdues powerful emotions, removes the will to fight. No matter how much damage I inflict, her rage will remain quelled." Ruby said internally, before sidestepping her sister's punch and delivering her most powerful uppercut upside her jaw with her free hand. To her surprise, it affected Yang as if she were just a regular person, making her recoil back and hold her jaw. With a savage smirk behind her mask, she gave her a solid kick to the abdomen, shoving her back violently, and unloading her entire magazine into her as she fell down. 20 rounds wasn't enough on it's own, but a boot to the face as she tried to pick herself up finally dipped her below 15%, and the automated system declared Ruby Rose the winner yet again...
Ruby didn't say anything, simply looked down on her defeated sister for a moment, before shaking her head. The gas was starting to clear out, though it was never quite thick enough to conceal much of the fight...
"Next opponent." Ruby called out, her aura still unaffected as she hadn't utilized her semblance, nor had she yet taken any damage. While the randomizer ran it's course, she helped Yang to her feet, gave her a pat on the shoulder, and a light, non-hostile shove to get her out of the arena. The effect of the gas would fade away in about an hour, so she wasn't too concerned about Yang. No, her focus was on the next opponent that the randomizer selected...
"Who would've thought I'd get three of my 'friends' back to back? Must be my lucky day." She thought, noting that Nora had already departed to get equipped for battle... "shit, I'm getting too excited. Gotta calm down, level out my emotions. If I get ahead of myself, I'll be liable to make amateur mistakes." She thought, before taking off her gas mask and taking a small whiff of the riot suppressant. Not enough to slow her down any, but just enough to level out her emotions a little, getting the exact effect she wanted.
Now reigning in her focus, she narrowed her eyes on her third foe of the day. Nora Valkyrie. Unlike her sister, Nora's weapon had a lot of splash damage she had to worry about, and unlike Pyrrha a pulse grenade would only amplify her... but she had picked up on a trend. Crazy as Nora may be, she never fired her grenades blindly. If her line of sight were obstructed completely and she hadn't any idea where Ruby was, she wouldn't fire any grenades.
Concealment was the name of the game for this battle, so after watching her opponent step into the arena, Magnhild held in grenade launcher form, she resumed the ready stance that she'd used in the previous two matches, immediately putting her on guard. She knew that this time she'd actually have to use her semblance if she wanted to avoid any actual damage, since Nora would likely try to shoot first. Knowing it likely wasn't something that she could prevent from happening, as soon as the buzzer signaled for them to do battle, Ruby tossed the cylinder towards Nora while dashing left with her semblance. The lever was launched off by the spring and the cylinder bonked Nora on the nose, spewing out a wall of light gray smoke that swiftly filled the arena.
Nora fired a few grenades for as long as she could maintain visual with her target, but with the erratic movement Ruby was employing, she couldn't make any sensible guess as to where she could've gone, and ceased fire...
"Useless without Crescent Rose, huh? We'll see about that." Ruby thought as she dropped her nods over her goggles, switching to thermals so she could track her target's movements. She let an internal chuckle dominate her mind as she halted in place and loosed a burst of fire into the girl's back, before running back the way she came so that Nora couldn't make an accurate guess.
She continued to do this, until Nora was worn down, breathing heavily and with low aura, roughly 28% left. Deciding she wanted to prove Nora wrong, Ruby dropped her rifle while sprinting directly towards her, drawing her knife from its sheathe on her chest and slashing Nora across the back. She screamed in pain and swung back blindly, Magnhild still in launcher form. Ruby simply leaned back at an angle and allowed the launcher to pass just over her, before shooting forward and punching Nora in the face with everything she had.
The long hours of physical training paid off, as the punch actually affected her like a punch to the face should, even if it didn't knock out more than a single percent. As she recoiled back and clutched her nose with her left hand, she still held Magnhild low in her right, which Ruby took advantage of and kicked it out of her hand, effectively disarming her. She switched her grip to an underhand grip on her knife, and as soon as she planted her foot, she slashed down diagonally with her knife, spinning on the ball of her right foot while drawing her left back in, and delivering a sideways kick to Nora's chest all in one fluid motion, knocking the older girl on her back and dropping her down to 22%.
Ruby finished the fight by sheathing her knife and whipping out the sidearm, popping her opponent a few times in the chest to finally drop her into the critical zone that disqualified her from battle. As the smoke had concealed the arena, the energy barrier above them that protected spectators had highlighted them for the audience, meaning not a single thing was lost to them, save their voices. No one could believe it, previously all three fighters outclassed Ruby, so how did she just beat them all like child's play?!
As the smoke cleared, Glynda smirked as she saw Ruby had bagged yet another easy victory, and gave the girl a quick nod before speaking into her microphone.
"An excellent display of tactical decision making and playing to your opponents' weaknesses, Miss Rose. After a display like this, I'm sure many of your fellow classmates will be taking notes on how to improve their own combat styles and defenses." She praised, getting a simple nod in return, as Ruby flicked her nods into the upright position and stowed her goggles. Nora took the hand Ruby offered her after, wincing slightly as she continued to rub her nose.
"Agh... Since when did you punch, Ruby? Caught me completely off guard..." Nora complained, but Ruby just shrugged. The girl was on her feet now, so she didn't need to baby her anymore.
"Miss Rose, while your combative displays were truly impressive today, I must cap this out as your limit for opponents in the ring for this class."
"It's fine, Miss Goodwitch. Was just about done anyways." Ruby answered blankly, before doing an about face, and heading for her lockers...
The sparring matches had put her in a particularly good mood, especially since she so easily defeated three of, if not the strongest three girls of her year. It was reason enough for celebration in her eyes, so she planned on going out on the town after school, hit up the arcade or something. She was in such a good mood, that she was focusing on anything but what was currently going on around her, aaaaaannnndddd-
"Ruby!"
"Waaaah!" Ruby screeched as a hand set itself on her shoulder and a loud voice notably deeper than her own resounded from over it. Dropping her kit and looking back, she sighed as she noted it was just her team. Blake had addressed her.
"Ruby, what the heck was all that? You beat the three strongest fighters of our year back-to-back! And what's been up with you today? You aren't acting like... well... you?" She questioned, though only got a grunt from the girl in question before she finally answered a few moments after.
"I just gave some considerations to universal combative counters. That's all. Pyrrha can't stop or resist the blast of a pulse grenade. Yang draws strength from anger, so I subdued her emotions with riot control gas. Nora is a powerhouse who can channel electricity through her muscles to enhance her strength, but she doesn't attack blindly, so I obscured the battlefield to her, whereas I had thermal vision so it wouldn't matter." Ruby explained, stowing her assault rifle and PDW in their racks beside Crescent Rose before setting her helmet on the shelf, her vest on the floor of the locker, and set her elbow and knee pads on the shelf below her helmet.
"Alright... those are smart counters, I'll admit that..." Weiss admit, before shaking her head and staring holes through Ruby's back. "But what about how you've been acting? It's a little... off?"
"I thought you of all people would've preferred me to be a little more quiet, Weiss." Ruby snarked right back, taking the girl back with the hint of venom in her tone.
"Wh-what's that supposed to mean?!"
"A conversation for another time, another place." Ruby stated simply, before seeing Glynda approach from the other side of the room and feeling a bit of relief. "Now, Miss Goodwitch wanted to talk to me alone after the matches. Go to lunch."
"Oh no you don't, Ruby! You can't just blow us off like-" Weiss began, though was cut off from Glynda's riding crop smacking down the hand she was using to point at the young leader.
"Miss Rose is correct in that I wanted to speak to her alone. Please leave us." The older lady told, and they obeyed without question. Better to just listen and clear out than face punishment from the Vice Headmistress. "Now, Ruby, that was an impressive display, indeed. I don't doubt you'll make a fine addition to Spec Ops."
"The praise is appreciated, Glynda. Thanks for bailing me out of conversation with my team, by the way." Ruby replied, though Glynda just shook her head.
"You're not having trouble with them, are you? You're still stuck with them for the next four years, you know."
"Believe me, I'm tracking that. Its more their problem with me if anything." Ruby informed, earning a quizzical look from the older lady.
"Oh? Is that so? Tell me about it."
"I-I really shouldn't... it's a team affair, after-"
"Ruby, I may hold the title of Vice Headmistress, and you may be a student within my academy, but as members of Spec Ops you and I are colleagues and peers before teacher and student." Glynda informed, setting a hand on Ruby's shoulder and giving a light squeeze. "You can tell me what's going on, even if unprofessional. If you want to talk about it as peers, we'll leave it as just idle conversation and I'll take no further action."
Ruby sighed heavily at that, before turning and closing up her locker. "Some inner team drama. Heard them shit talking behind my back. Seems no matter what I do, my whole team gots a problem with it."
"Well? Lay it on me."
"Where to start? Aside from them constantly ditching g me for months now, Weiss is judgmental, overbearing, and just generally acts like a total bitch whenever she gets the chance, not to mention how she always belittles me. Always tried to make her feel welcome in the team and be friendly to her, but fuck me, right?" Ruby started, her voice both exasperated and dripping with venom at the same time. "Blake has a bone to pick with me because I interrupt her 'oh so precious' reading time, like she doesn't do that all day every fuckin day. Like, fuck, ex-fuckin-cuse me for trying to be a good leader by getting to know my subordinates and build good cohesion!" She continued, laying into her next teammate before moving on. "Then there's my sister... fuck, then there's my fuckin sister. Apparently I'm the reason she's always had to cancel plans with friends, even though I never asked her to. Not only that, apparently her whole little shpiel she gave me when we got here was a lie. She doesn't think I belong here. She believes Ozpin made a mistake by allowing my admittance. I mean, it's not like I stopped a crime while she commit one or anything, but I think today I showed them that I have earned my place here." Ruby continued to rant, punching her locker once at the end and letting out one last large sigh.
"I see... so, what are you gonna do about it? Things like that are only gonna keep building up pressure until it all explodes, you know."
"It's simple, really. I don't care what problems they have with me anymore, and I'm done trying to be their friends. All we have to do is attend classes, practice and do missions together. All we have to be is teammates for four years. Not friends. Not sisters." Ruby stated harshly, before crossing her arms over her chest and continuing to drone on. "I still plan on offering them sound leadership while we're here, but I don't need to be their friend nor they mine to do so. I'll continue to try to make this team stronger, but I won't bother with attempting to interact after the needed hours. They clearly don't want me in their lives any more than necessary, so I'll oblige. I'm clearly thriving on my own, so that's just fine in my book, all I need of them is to follow when I lead them into battle."
Glynda remained silent at that, nodding solemnly. Team RWBY had shown much promise as a team, but it seemed all good things came to an end. Ruby's decision to stop caring certainly wasn't the healthiest thing she could do as the leader, but what other option did she have? Ruby had tried the best she could, and it got her nowhere. If her team didn't care, if they didn't have any motivation, why should their leader?
"Maybe I'll talk to them at some point, I dunno, maybe next week. Right now their remarks are still bugging me a little, and I don't wanna explode on em. That would only destroy what unit cohesion we do have... just need time to cool off right now. Guess I'm just still a little pissed off."
"Well, your uncharacteristically frequent usage of profanities would certainly suggest it. Last class you have before electives today is Peach's, correct?"
"Yeah. After that is Independent Operations and guitar." Ruby answered, watching Glynda type something on her scroll, before smiling at whatever response it was she received.
"Alright, last hour is normally my off hour, but Ozpin cleared me to act as a sort of Mentor for your entry into Spec Ops. Your Guitar hour has been moved to 6, and your Independence Operations class will be replaced with my mentorship hour... on that note, I will be your squad leader. Understood?" Glynda said with a smirk, before patting Ruby on the side of her arm and giving a thumbs up. Ruby was taken aback by this, but pleased to hear it nonetheless. She gave an eager nod.
"Oh- uh, understood! Glyn- er, uh... what do I..?"
"I don't get any fancy titles just because I'm your squad leader, like I said, better to be on a first name basis when not on the job and using callsigns." Glynda gave her one last warm smile, before giving one last pat and turning about, taking her leave, although not before making one last statement. "Oh, by the way, come in full kit. Trust me, you'll need it all."
Ruby could only give one last big smile, before turning back to her locker, and changing back into her regular school uniform. She sure as hell wasn't expecting Miss Goodwitch, or, Glynda as she supposed she was supposed to call her away from the rest of the student body, to be her squad leader... nor was she expecting g her to be so relaxed and casual with her, though it wasn't as if she were complaining. Now, with a slight pep in her step from everything g going her way for once, Ruby made her way to the cafeteria, to get lunch, and hopefully avoid any possible nuisances in the process...
