Prompt – "Its just that he has such a great reading voice. Who wouldnt want to sit in on reading time?"
Ron and Hermione had been happy to babysit their godson while Harry and Ginny attended a late afternoon press party for the Holyhead Harpies. They had thought they would be home earlier but they had somewhat guiltily been enjoying a rare 'date' away from James, and Hermione had told them not to rush home.
Ginny and Hermione caught up on family news over a cup of tea in the Potter's kitchen, while Harry went upstairs to say goodnight to James, having heard that his son was still awake.
After their second cup was finished, they both began to wonder what was taking Harry and Ron so long. Surely six month old James was asleep by now? They decided to go and see what was keeping their men away.
To both their surprise, Harry was sitting in the hall, just outside James' bedroom, his back against the wall. He looked up when he heard them coming down the hall, putting his fingers to his lips to shush them.
'What?' mouthed Ginny, and he indicated James room with a nod of his head.
'Listen," he mouthed back.
Hermione and Ginny listened intently, as Ron read 'Babbity Rabbit and her Cackling Stump' to a still wide awake James.
"Mo', mo'," clapped James.
Ginny checked her watch; it wasn't that much later than James' usual bedtime, so she wasn't too bothered that he was still awake.
The trio outside the room snickered quietly as they listened to Ron do all the voices of the characters, and they enjoyed it just as much as James seemed to.
Harry's heart was full to hear his son laughing and responding to Ron's voices.
'
"- and no witch or wizard was ever persecuted in the kingdom again. The End."
"End," mimicked James, sleepily. "Me like Babby Rabby."
"Me too, James, it was always my favourite, just like you're my favourite godson," said Ron softly. "Now, off to sleep with you."
"Mummy...Daddy," murmured James, yawning.
"They'll be here when you wake up, mate," soothed Ron. "Night, night."
"Night, night, Unca Won," said James, and then there was silence.
"He's so good with James," whispered Hermione proudly.
"He's going to be a great dad," hinted Ginny.
"I agree," said Harry, looking at Hermione. "You can buy all the books and Ron can read them."
"He is very good at it, isn't he?" she asked.
"Is that why you didn't go in there?" Ginny asked Harry.
He nodded. "It's that he has such a great reading voice, he really makes the characters come to life. Who wouldn't want to sit in on reading time with Uncle Ron?"
