Prompt - "Too crazy in there for you?" "Honestly, I jst wanted the chance to look at the stars with you."
t had been the longest year. A year of fear, of hope, of love and loss. And then, since May, a time of recovery, of trying to move on.
Somehow, Ginny had returned to a Hogwarts that was, like them all, still recovering. The first days had been hard but then the usual structure that they had been used to seem to kick in, and the weeks went by so fast that, before she knew it, she was on the train home for the Christmas holidays.
She and Harry were together but somehow, not whole yet. She knew he needed time and she was glad he had Ron with him at Grimmauld Place rather than be alone.
As promised, he had written regularly, mostly about auror training, Teddy and keeping her up to date on her family. Only occasionally would he let something personal slip in, and she clung to those words like a talisman.
'Good luck for Quidditch tryouts, Captain Weasley,' he teased in his first letter since she left. 'Gin, you're going to be great.'
'Ron's great and all, but he's not the Weasley I wish was here,' he wrote.
'I'm trying to teach Teddy your name, since he saw the photo I have of you next to my bed', he wrote in November.
'I visited my parent's graves in Godric's Hollow on Halloween. Will you come with me at Christmas time, I'd like you to see them,' was his letter just a week ago.
'I miss you.'
She had gone with him to Godric's Hollow and he'd taken her around the town, showing her the house he had lived in till he was fifteen months old. She let him talk, taking him in, just so very happy to be with him again.
But since then, there hadn't been much time alone time with Harry. First it was Christmas, then Boxing Day with the whole family, and the days had gone so quickly. Before she knew it, it was New Year's Eve, and George had decided to throw a party.
It had been fun to see so many friends again; Lee Jordan, Oliver Wood, Alicia Spinnet, Angelina Johnson and Katie Bell, who had been so important helping George move on without Fred. From Ron's year, Neville and Hannah, Parvati and Padma Patil and Dean and Seamus. And from their Quidditch team, Demelza, Jimmy and Ritchie.
There's been singing and dancing and eating and while it had been fun, she was now sitting on the roof of George's flat above the WWW shop, just needing some space from the noise and fumes from various products that were exploding.
She turned when the window behind her opened, and to her surprise, Harry climbed out.
"Aren't you freezing?" he asked, placing a cloak around her shoulders.
She shook her head. "I cast a warming charm." She cast one over him too.
He chuckled. "Right, good thinking."
"Too crazy in there for you?" she asked, hearing George hollering at someone or something, and everyone laughing.
He took in a deep breath and looked up to the sky, then back at her.
"Honestly, I just wanted the chance to look at the stars with you," he said.
Their eyes locked, as down below, the countdown started.
"Happy New Year, Harry," she said.
He leaned in and cupped her cheek before gently kissing her.
"HAPPY NEW YEAR," they heard everyone shout.
"It is now," he told her, moving closer and putting his arm around her.
"This is how I want to start every year," she said softly.
"Me too."
Above them, the stars twinkled brightly as the new year began.
