Hi everyone. While watching episode 5 of What If… I had the idea to write this story by adding Supergirl. For those who read my stories, it's related to one of my old stories "Supergirl, The Flash, Green Arrow Infinity War". A rewrite of this story with the scenario of episode 5 of What If…

Enjoy.

Good reading.

Chapter 1

Time… Space… Reality… It's more than a linear path. It's a prism of endless possibility. Where a single choice can branch out into infinite realities, creating alternate worlds from the ones you know...

I am The Watcher. I am your guide through these vast new realities.

Follow me and ponder the question... "WHAT IF?"

The cosmic entity called Uatu, also known as the Watcher, then observed a universe where a choice would forever change the destiny of an entire timeline…

In space, the Bifrost made its way to Earth, carrying the Hulk and Supergirl, who had just been thrown from the Sakaaran ship after escaping Thanos. A terrible threat was on the way and mankind was going to be faced with a dangerous battle. What if things had turned out differently for them?

Dr. Bruce Banner, the human hiding within the Hulk, along with the company of a hero known as Supergirl from another Earth, fell from the stars to warn humanity of imminent danger. But when they arrived on Earth, it was another world that they both discovered…

The Watcher watched the Bifrost make its way to Earth, arriving in the neighborhood of Greenwich Village, New York, a sumptuous house stood. The home of Doctor Stephen Strange, the Master of the Mystic Arts.

The rainbow of Bifrost descended the staircase which led into the great hall, then, having reached its destination, evaporated, leaving in its wake a large crater.

Under the gaping hole in the stairs that the rainbow had caused, Supergirl was recovering from her emotions, while the Hulk resumed the human form of Bruce Banner.

"Thanos is coming!"he announced, panicked. "He's coming!"

"I need to warn my friends," Supergirl added, standing up.

But as she dusted the dust off her outfit, she noticed something strange. The house they had crashed into seemed deserted. No one around them joined them. The Girl of Steel came out of the crater to peek into the sumptuous mansion, but she saw no one. A big house like this had to be inhabited.

Even Banner had noticed the strange absence of an occupant, and called out to them:

" Uh… Hello? Anyone got any clothes?"

Supergirl turned and quickly looked away when she saw Bruce Banner almost naked. Hulk's ripped pants were too big for the scientist to wear. Without looking at him, the Kryptonian hastened to find clothes for her friend.

Finally, she could find a suit in shades of brown. She wondered about the people who lived here… or who had lived here…

"Sorry, Bruce, that's all I could find," she said, passing him the clothes. "I hope it fits you."

"Now, that's better," Banner replied gratefully.

While Bruce was changing, Supergirl started looking for people who could inhabit the places they were.

"Hello? Is anyone in there? Hello?"

But she got no answer. This strange silence was disturbing.

Suddenly, without warning, something brushed against her. Supergirl whirled around and saw to her surprise… a large red cloak floating in the air just in front of her. Dr. Strange's Cloak of Levitation. Stunned, the Girl of Steel eyed the flying garment.

"A flying cape?" she exclaimed surprised.

Without knowing what she was doing, she greeted the object as if it were alive.

"Hi, flying cape! Can I call you Cape?"

The Cloak began to move her top, as if responding to her.

"I'll take that for a yes," Supergirl said in embarrassment, trying to interpret the Cloak's signs. "Do you have… an owner? Or many? They don't live here anymore? Do you know where they are?"

In response, the Cloak began to flutter in all directions, to the embarrassment of Supergirl who did not understand its reaction. Then she felt ridiculous.

"Rao, I'm talking to a flying Cloak! If Alex, J'onn, James or Lena saw me…"

The Red Cloak moved away from her. Then Supergirl saw something even more disturbing.

"Bruce, I can't hear anything!"

"What?" said the Hulk's alter ego as he got dressed.

"I have super hearing, and I can't hear any noise. Not only is this big house empty, but I can't hear anyone outside. No noise. Nothing at all. Not a bird. Nor a car. Nor anyone. Nor anything. It is as if we are in an abandoned city."

"Nothing in New York?" Banner exclaimed fully dressed and stunned. "No it can't be. This isn't normal."

"Do you think Thanos would have beaten us before we got there?" Supergirl worried.

The thought of seeing the Mad Titan accomplish his plan to destroy half the universe filled her with dread and dismay.

"We should go look outside," Banner told her wanting to be positive. "We may have some explanations."

The two left the Sanctum Sanctorum and took a few steps into the neighborhood of Greenwich Village. Banner was stunned when he saw the surroundings.

"Oh, God!"

The whole neighborhood was peaceful, but very quiet. A few cars were parked on the sidewalks, but there was no one there. No passerby. No animal. Not even a bird. This wasn't the New York that Bruce Banner had left.

"Where have they all been?"Supergirl exclaimed, looking around, and using her x-rays. "I don't see anyone. Even the houses around us are deserted. There's nobody."

Banner had been positive so far, but right now he looked panicked.

"This isn't normal!" he stammered in a trembling voice. "Were we too late?"

Supergirl's eyes widened in horror.

"You think Thanos has…"

Then a ray of energy appeared from nowhere and stopped about ten meters from our two heroes. As it evaporated, two figures appeared. The Kryptonian recognized in horror Ebony Maw and the colossus Cull Obsidian. Thanos' minions had arrived on Earth.

"They're there!" cried the Kryptonian, shocked. "So he doesn't have the other Stones yet."

Forgetting the strangeness of the silent city, she moved into a fighting stance, ready to fight the two invaders, while Bruce called out his other personality.

"Come on, big guy, time to go green."

"We really need a Hulk," Supergirl said, clenching her fists, focusing her gaze on the two Children of Thanos.

Banner closed his eyes. His face contorted and his chest began to swell, taking on a greenish tint… before regaining its usual appearance. Bruce tried to concentrate again. In vain. The Hulk didn't show up, which puzzled Supergirl.

"What's wrong?"

"I don't know," Banner replied in embarrassment. "He doesn't want to come."

He flexed his muscles once again, without anything happening.

"Oh, no!" he lamented distraught at being helpless.

Ignoring the two heroes, the Obsidian Colossus dropped his huge hammer to the ground, while Ebony Maw launched his speech as if nothing had happened:

"Hear me and rejoice…"

Banner began to slap himself, wanting to get the green monster out.

"Come out! Come out!"

Supergirl came up to him, and encouraged him to transform.

"Come on Hulk. We need you," she added.

In response, Bruce's face turned green.

"NO!" he just bellowed the Hulk before turning back to Banner, much to Kara's surprise.

"What do you mean, "no"?" Bruce exclaimed in panic.

Seeing that there was no point in waiting for the Hulk to arrive, Supergirl returned her attention to the two invaders. As Maw continued his speech, a strange golden circle appeared just behind his head and a red-gloved hand emerged from it.

"You are about to die at the hands of the Children of…"

Immediately, the red hand shot a beam of energy that hit Maw, knocking him to the ground.

Finally, three figures emerged, one of them wearing a red jumpsuit.

"Tony!" Banner exclaimed, delighted.

"Tony? Is he a friend of yours?" Supergirl retorted, looking at the scientist.

"Yes, it's Tony Stark, Iron-Man," Banner said, still happy.

"Yes, another Avenger!" replied the Girl of Steel with gratitude and joy.

She remembered the Avengers that Thor the God of Thunder had told her about. She had traveled to this Earth to meet them. And now she got acquainted with Iron-Man.

Relieved, Bruce Banner laughed as he looked at the Children of Thanos.

"Boy, are you guys screwed!"

"It's awesome!" Kara said ecstatically.

Taken aback, Maw turned from the ground to see his attackers. The person named Tony flew into the air, while the other two figures revealed two new circles. Iron-Man used his hands to shoot several energy beams at the two invaders. Maw and Obsidian wanted to retaliate, but new golden circles appeared and the two figures accompanying Tony came to attack them. Supergirl figured the golden circles must be magical portals.

"Yeah Iron-Man!" Banner exclaimed ecstatically.

"Avengers!" Supergirl chuckling, waving her fist in the air like a football fan.

A light mist enveloped the entire battleground, where the Children of Thanos fought Iron-Man with the two wizards who spouted golden circles and even golden strings of energy.

As Supergirl and Bruce rejoiced in the fight a few feet away from them, their ecstasy gone, when they noticed something strange. Iron-Man seemed to pounce on Maw and Obsidian like a rabid animal, and Supergirl could hear growls similar to those of a wild predator.

"Hey, wait, something's wrong… What the…? Iron-Man would have fangs? Like a… werewolf?"

Even Bruce was confused and stunned, retorting:

"What are you guys… That's…"

Then through the haze, they could see an Obsidian arm before it was ripped off by one of the wizards… with his teeth, as if he had bitten it.

"Uh, that sorta seems like overkill." Bruce wondered, intrigued.

Supergirl was no longer ecstatic, but distraught. Her super-hearing made her hear strange barks coming from people in front of her. Inhuman grunts she had never heard in her life. And she even heard limbs torn off, like an animal devouring prey.

"What's going on? Looks like…"

Finally, the fight ceased, and the strange silence which somewhat sheltered the district of Greenwich resumed. Frightened, Supergirl and Bruce looked at each other as they saw Tony stand up slowly as if in slow motion. They heard him breathe, not like an ordinary human. When he turned back to our two heroes, his face could be seen, and it wasn't Tony Stark's usual face. It was a face with a bluish complexion, yellow eyes and all bloody. What Supergirl described with dread and horror:

"ZOMBIES!"

"Whoa!" Banner cried, horrified.

Tony the zombie snapped his jaw with a frightening noise. As the wizards who once turned out to be Stephen Strange and his companion Wong stood up with the same bluish tones. They were all zombies. Zombie Wong took a bite of Obsidian's arm which he had ripped off.

"Zombies exist on your Earth?" Supergirl stammered in shock at the sight of the monstrous creatures.

Since leaving Krypton, she had fought aliens, Reign who had plunged her into a coma, the Goddess of Death, confronted Thanos and now… zombies? She had only seen it in horror movies and yet, she wasn't a fan of this. For the first time, she could see zombies in real life.

"It wasn't there when I left Earth," Banner added as distraught and shocked as she was.

Much to their horror, they saw Maw and Obsidian stand up, both also turned into zombies. Now there were five of them, including Tony who brandished his fist revealing a beam of energy.

"I can't believe it!" Bruce exclaimed in horror.

"This is a nightmare!"added the Girl of Steel, eyes wide with terror and not knowing how to react.

Then the Cloak of Levitation popped up out of nowhere, passed our two heroes and wrapped around Tony's leg and carried him into the air, preventing Iron-Man Zombie from going after the Kryptonian and to the scientist. And the Cloak caused Tony to throw at Obsidian.

Strange the Zombie wanted to act in his turn, making a golden circle appear with his hand, but the Cloak wrapped around his hand and came around.

"Bruce, let's not stay here!" Supergirl said as she flew off and grabbed Banner in the process.

The two flew through the air, when suddenly Supergirl suddenly found herself on the ground with Bruce. They both fell on a car.

"What's wrong?" said the Avenger, taken aback.

"I don't know," Supergirl answered stunned. "I can't flying."

She turned and saw Ebony Maw the zombie using his telekinesis on our heroes, freezing them both.

"I can't move," she said in amazement.

"So have I," Banner added.

Then a golden portal sprang up right in front of them, and Wong the zombie emerged. Supergirl and Bruce paralyzed by Maw's powers could only watch the creepy creature rush over to devour them.

Supergirl could only cry out in dread, while Banner screamed in terror.

"Don't eat us…"

Wong the zombie wanted to shred them, but he was stopped. He snapped his jaw with a sinister sound, but his body stopped moving. Our two heroes turned from their hiding place to see a few feet from them, the Cloak clinging to Strange Zombie's hand, also clinging to Wong the Zombie preventing him from entering the portal he had created for reach Supergirl and Banner.

"Well done, Cape," said a delighted Supergirl.

Immediately, she used her super-breath on Strange, pushing Wong away from them. The portal closed so abruptly that the head of the Wong Zombie was cut off and fell under the feet of the two heroes.

The Cloak floated in the air, carrying the Zombie Strange with it. Iron-Man the Zombie tried to neutralize him with his energy beams, but the Cloak dodged the blows.

Noticing that she could move again, Supergirl said:

"Bruce, let's go!"

But before they could get away from the zombies, Supergirl and Bruce were again frozen and knocked to the ground, as if an invisible force had struck them both. Then they were crawled as if that same force was pulling them both.

Finally, the Girl of Steel and the Avenger scientist were lifted into the air and floated right in front of the zombies. Supergirl noticed that Maw was using his powers to keep them in the air by telekinesis. Even as a zombie, the servant still knew how to use his powers.

With horror and dread, the two heroes saw the zombies approaching them, uttering inhuman grunts.

"No, no, don't eat us!" Banner stammered, horrified. "I'm… I'm vegan."

Supergirl couldn't believe such a situation. Was she going to die devoured by these creatures from a horror movie?

She tried to use her super-breath, but Maw's powers blocked hers. Even her heat vision was blocked.

"Rao, help us, please!"

It was then that a swarm of flying insects struck Maw. They were flying ants in a swarm that tore Maw and Obsidian apart, leaving only bones.

Supergirl and Banner fell to the ground, released from the power of telekinesis and saw the Children of Thanos being butchered by the flying ants.

"Oh, holy crow. Oh, come on!" said Banner stunned.

"Do you have any surprises like this on your Earth, Dr. Banner?" Supergirl asked him, puzzled at the sight of the flying insects.

"I'm not sure it's my Earth… What now? Okay. This is disgusting!"

Then another swarm of flying ants came to skin Strange who was floating in the air with the Cloak of Levitation.

Only Iron-Man remained. He brandished both hands in attack, when a dark figure popped up out of nowhere and came to shoot a beam of energy at Tony, chopping off his head.

And a few flying ants appeared with a giant size around our two heroes.

Tony Stark the Zombie's head rolled to the ground, and was caught by the mandibles of a giant ant. Supergirl winced in disgust and looked at the giant ants around her.

"Zombies, and now giant ants? This Earth sucks!"

Banner swallowed in horror and disgust at the sight of the giant ant gulping down Tony's head.

"Oh! I'm gonna vomit… I'm definitely gonna vomit…"

"I wish I could vomit too," Kara swallowed with disgust.

The figure that intervened was none other than Hope Van Dyne aka the Wasp. Indifferent to zombies and big ants, she addressed our two heroes by pointing to these large bugs:

"Go! You guys will be safe with them."

"With the giant ants?!" Supergirl and Banner exclaimed at the same time in disbelief and amazement.

The Kryptonian didn't feel safe around giant bugs.

"Who are you?" cried Bruce Banner, flabbergasted.

"All that's left." Hope replied simply from her helmet, which only her eyes could be seen.

"I choose to go to fly," Supergirl said, flying away.

She was about to carry Banner, when he was lifted into the air by a hooded individual wearing a blue suit and a red one with a sign of spiders on his chest.

"Ants and spiders? Are people fans of insects in this world?" Supergirl exclaimed, flying away with them.

Bruce, carried by the hooded individual, sputtered in horror.

"Don't eat me! Don't eat me…"

"Hey, relax," said the one who lifted him in the air and used web launchers to soar through the air. "I'm your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man."

Supergirl flew past them, and was shocked to find this "Spider-Man" appeared to be a teenager.

"What? How old are you, kid?"

"Who are you? The Flying Lady? The Flying Woman? And are you dressed as a cheerleader with a cape?" Spider-Man wondered as he watched the Kryptonian fly towards him.

"I'm not a cheerleader. I'm Supergirl."

"Supergirl?! No one's ever seen you before! Why are you only appearing now?"

"I'd be happy to tell everything about me, But first we must go to a quiet place without a zombie," suggested he Supergirl.

"What the hell happened to the neighborhood?" added Bruce Banner whose Spider-Man carried in the air.

Supergirl looked below her. She hoped to see normal people on the streets. But it wasn't. What had happened to this world? Why zombies? The whole world had been affected? Was everyone a zombie? What about the Avengers? Had they failed to stop this pandemic? Had they all become zombies too?

Even aliens like Maw and Obsidian had been struck by this evil and had become undead creatures. If they could be reached, Supergirl could well be contaminated too. The idea that she could become a zombie filled her with terror.

What had happened to this world?

She continued to fly near Spider-Man who was flying from web to web with Banner. Then the Cloak of Levitation flew close to them.

From the sky, the Watcher Uatu continued to see what was happening in this Earth.

Supergirl looked up at the sky, but saw nothing. Still, she could have sworn she saw or heard something. But she saw nothing. Frowning, she continued her flight past Spider-Man and the Cloak.

Like too many great catastrophes, this one sprang from a place of love and hope…
