Hi everyone! I'm glad you like my story. And here is the second chapter.
Good reading!
Chapter 2
Two weeks earlier, Dr. Hank Pym journeyed into the quantum realm, searching for his long-lost wife. But in this universe, Janet Van Dyne contracted a quantum virus that corrupted her brain. So when she finally reunited with her husband after thirty long years… She was no longer the woman he had known and Hank Pym was the first to be infected with the virus. Oof. That happened.
Alas, Hope Van Dyne's long-awaited family reunion was not to be.
Within 24 hours, the entire Pacific Northwest was infected. Ironically, it was the Avengers' heroism that sealed humanity's fate. Because once Earth's mightiest heroes joined the infected, no one else stood a chance. Unless, of course, they knew the rules…
Spider-Man had led Supergirl, Banner, and the Cloak of Levitation to a survivor base that consisted of trains suspended in the air by gigantic cobwebs. Once arrived at his destination, the young man was revealed to be Peter Parker from Queens who had spider powers. He told them about the events leading up to the Zombie Apocalypse.
The journey of Dr. Hank Pym (Father of Hope Van Dyne) in search of his missing wife in the Quantum Realm. But who had contracted a quantum virus that affected him. When he returned, he had become a zombie with his wife. Hope had managed to escape, but not Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, also a superhero. Over the next twenty-four hours, the quantum virus quickly spread like a pandemic. The Avengers had bonded to stem the epidemic. But as soon as Steve Rogers also caller Captain America was infected with a zombie, the battle to save the world was lost. The Avengers had fallen. And the situation had only worsened since then.
Supergirl shudders at the mention of the fallen heroes. She who wanted so much to meet these heroes after hearing Thor talk about them. In the end, she'll never have the opportunity to get to meet them or get to know them again. Was this world doomed to disappear? To her surprise, she found that young Peter remained optimistic, despite the apocalyptic situation plaguing the world.
Once he had finished his tale, he introduced them to the survivors with them: Hope Van Dyne aka the Wasp, daughter of the late Hank Pym, a Russian named Kurt, Scott Lang's former friend, Happy Hogan, once chief of Stark Industries security Bucky Barnes, former soldier with a metal arm, and Sharon Carter, a former S.H.I.E.L.D. spy
And finally, Peter also presented to our heroes, a survival video that he had made with his smartphone.
The video began with a message: "Do you want to survive the Zombie Apocalypse?"
And the face of Peter Parker in his Spider-Man outfit on the roof of one of the buildings in New York, joined the screen.
"New York! Home of the Mets, the Chrysler Building, those ladies from Sex and the City, and now… (He put on a fake scary look.) The zombie apocalypse! If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. But first, you have to not get eaten."
And the video showed Happy wearing a t-shirt with, "I'm not single, I'm saving myself for Thor." Happy 'Never actually Happy' Hogan, (skills: driving, coffee, boxing.)
Happy didn't seem too keen to help make it happen. Ironic like Happy was not cheerful. He held up a sign that read: "Long sleeves."
Peter's voice continued:
"Step one. Long sleeves."
"Do I have to be wearing this?"Tony Stark's old friend replied with a bored look.
"Hey, Happy, come on. The safety of the world depends on it. And action, zombies!"
Next appeared in the video, Kurt ('Resident weirdo', skills: languages, Slavic folklore, crime) Ant-Man's friend who was pretending to moan like a zombie with a crass imitation.
"Here I come. Bad zombie."he roared, imitating a growling zombie and waving his arms like a ghost.
Peter continued his video as Kurt pretended to bite Happy by the arm:
"The zombie virus is passed through saliva. So the less skin you're showing, the less there is to bite."
Then the decor changed and the video revealed a bathroom, showing a tub surrounded by curtains:
"Step two, hygiene. Zombies are attracted to the smell of human flesh. So the less pheromones you give off, mmm, the better."
"But just one catch."Kurt warned, next to Spider-Man.
"You're never more vulnerable than in your birthday suit." Peter said like a commercial presenter.
Then Kurt pulled back the curtain, mimicking a wild animal going on the offensive.
"The sneak attack!"
Then the image of Bucky Barnes (Silent, but deadly, skills: murder, killer arm and heavy sleeper) in the tub, baring only part of his body retaliated by grabbing Kurt by the throat with his metal arm.
"Your robot arm is waterproof!"exclaimed Scott Lang's friend whose throat was held by Bucky's metal arm."How handy! Pun intended."
"You know all I have to do is squeeze, right?"Bucky told him, pretending to strangle him.
"Okay, okay. Easy, killer," intervened calmly Peter. "How about we skip the shower and grab the body spray?"
Kurt waved a spray, then Bucky released him.
Finally, the video unveiled the interior of a subway with Sharon Carter (The Blonde "Bond". Skills: Spycraft, First Aid, Eulogies) in the center, showing a look of determination.
And Peter's voice resumed:
"Okay, step three. Always aim for the head. That's the only way to kill 'em…"
"Will you turn that off?" growled a female voice close to our heroes.
A surly warrior woman armed with a lance joined the heroes.
Still in a natural tone, Peter replied:
"Oh. I was just showing Dr. Banner and Supergirl the orientation video."
Ignoring the young hero, the warrior came over to shake Banner's hand.
"General Okoye of the Dora Milaje. Wakandan Royal Guard."
Supergirl came over to shake her hand.
"Nice to meet you," she said kindly.
"Why haven't we seen you here?" the warrior asked, frowning at the Kryptonian.
"Actually, I come from another planet that was destroyed and then I grew up on Earth, but not in yours. On another Earth different from the one you know. On the Earth where I come from, there are no Avengers."
Supergirl almost added "Neither Zombies", but that would have inappropriate.
"So the Multiverse isn't a theory," Peter exclaimed ecstatically. "That completely changes how we understand the initial singularity. We're talking about, an eternal inflation system. And how does that even work with all the quantum… Oh, an alien who lives on Earth, it's so cool!"
"Thanks," Supergirl told him, a little uncomfortable.
"You certainly picked a hell of a time to visit the States, General." Bruce pointed out to the Wakandan warrior.
"I swore an oath, Dr. Banner." Okoye replied in a neutral tone. "My King went missing with the Avengers weeks ago. And for the first time since the outbreak, we actually have a reason to hope."
"Really?" the Girl of Steel wondered with relief.
"Yes, a beacon just came in over the wires."
Okoye led them to join the rest of the survivors, who were examining a holographic schematic shot from one of the gloves in Iron-Man's armor. Hope examined the plan.
"Another survivor camp claims to have made progress on a cure." Okoye announced.
"They would have managed to find a cure for the zombies?" Supergirl wondered, skeptical.
"Wh... Awesome!"cried Peter in ecstasy. "Global crisis solved! High-fives all around, guys!"
"Not quite," Bucky Barnes said abruptly, without sharing the young man's enthusiasm. "The beacon's location was corrupted in transit. We have no idea where it came from."
Banner, who had also observed the holographic pattern, added in turn:
"Apparently your message is in non-linear hexadecimal code."
"That location look familiar, Agent Carter?" Bucky said.
"It's Camp Lehigh in New Jersey." Sharon Carter replied. "S.H.I.E.L.D.'s first base of operations. It could have the equipment you need to fabricate a cure."
"Then we'll leave at sundown." Okoye said determined.
Happy, who was sitting on a long subway seat, sighed in frustration:
"Well, just when you thought things couldn't get any worse, we gotta go to Jersey."
Later, Happy was behind the wheel of a van that had been shrunk to go unnoticed by zombies, and was leading the group of survivors to Grand Central Station in the Midtown neighborhood. They hoped to find a working train that would take them to New Jersey.
"Zombie-freakin'-apocalypse, and somehow, I'm still driving." Happy sighed.
"What is the problem? I thought you were an Uber driver." Okoye pointed out.
"No. I'm a personal chauffeur. There's a difference."
Suddenly, the huge, monstrous face of a zombie blocked all view of the windshield. After a shock, Happy enlarged the car, smashing the zombie into a large black puddle.
"All right, everybody, it's Grand Central."
Once they reached the entrance to the station, Okoye issued the directives:
"Hope, Banner, Parker, track seven. See if you can hot-wire the train."
"Sounds like job for criminal." Kurt announced proudly. "I will help."
"Uh, splitting up?" Peter wondered. "Do you guys just not have horror movies in Wakanda?"
"We don't need them. We have American reality shows." Okoye replied simply.
"I prefer musicals, like Wizard of Oz," Supergirl added. "With all due respect, General, Peter's right. I'm not sure splitting up is a good idea. I can hear from far away and I can tell you that the zombies are close of us."
"Jeez, that's sucks," Kurt stammered in fear.
"Relax, man," Bucky told him. "We knew it would be dangerous. We prepared for it."
Ignoring Supergirl, Okoye continued:
"The rest of us will stay here and guard the perimeter. (Speaking to Supergirl.) Did you say you were invulnerable like steel?"
"Yes, but I can't say for sure that the zombies won't infect me," replied the Girl of Steel. "If we have to go our separate ways, we might as well watch out for each other."
"We will," Happy said.
"There is a cure somewhere," Peter reminded him. "We mustn't give up hope."
Supergirl smiled soothingly at the optimism of the young Avenger. In general, it was she who inspired hope in others. And she was happy to have met someone who was her equal.
Bruce was with Hope, Kurt and Peter in the cockpit of an abandoned train. Kurt tried to turn it on again, but without power it was very difficult.
"No juice. We're getting no juice! Train, please be working for Daddy! It's not working!"
"We're locked outta the gear box." added Bruce who couldn't use the controls to make him go forward.
"I'm on it." Hope said, shrinking and flew into the technical interior of the train. "I can jump-start the engine from the inside."
Meanwhile, Supergirl, Okoye, and Bucky were watching the surroundings inside the station. The Girl of Steel shuddered in horror as she was able to hear several undead near their positions.
Hope tried to crank the engine, but to no avail. Without power, the train was inoperable.
"Spark ignition's not firing. We need someone to give us a push."
In the cockpit, Kurt turned to Bruce.
"Perhaps you summon your inner green demon."
"No, he's on sabbatical," Banner replied categorically. "Any other ideas?"
Hope's voice reached their ears:
"Not unless someone happens to have a giant slingshot…"
At that moment, Peter burst into the cockpit, excited, startling Banner and Kurt.
"I've got an idea! Make sure the brake lock is engaged."
Banner pulled the brake lever, while Peter shot two strands of canvas from the front of the train and pulled with all his might to move it forward.
Happy and Sharon were walking through the undergrounds of the station, when a cloud of dark birds came flying around Happy who fired with an Iron-Man glove.
"Blam! Blam! Blam! Blam! Blam! Blam!"
When the birds left, he gave an embarrassed smile.
"Just, uh, birds."
"Were you saying "blam"?"Sharon wondered.
"Was I?"
Suddenly, a harpoon hooked onto Happy's shoulder, and pulled him far into the darkness. In vain did he shoot, screaming 'blame', he disappeared into the dark.
"Happy!" Sharon cried, alarming the other survivors. "Man down, man down! We lost Happy!"
"What?"exclaimed Peter in shock as he was pulling the train with his webs when he heard the news. "No, not Happy!"
Since the loss of his aunt and that of Mr. Stark, Happy was what remained as a parental figure for the young Avenger. His disappearance tore his heart.
While alerting the others, Sharon was hit by an arrow that threw her against a wall. A figure emerges from the darkness. That of Clint Barton alias Hawkeye, become a zombie who had just neutralized the former spy with one of his arrows.
"It's Hawkeye!"
Supergirl, Okoye, and Bucky learned about Happy and Sharon, and before they could decide anything, a flying figure tumbled inside the station. Sam Wilson, the Falcon turned zombie too.
"No kidding, Zombies fly, right," Supergirl replied in shock and annoyance.
The Zombie Falcon flew in the direction of Okoye and Bucky. Supergirl immediately flew into the air.
"I'll take care of him," she announced.
She flew just a few yards from the undead Falcon.
"Hey, the flying zombie! Over here!"
Sam the zombie let out an inhuman roar and flew straight towards the Girl of Krypton. Kara flew with the zombie flying behind her. She stopped in the air and came to blow the zombie with her super-breath that made him fall to the ground.
Okoye took the opportunity to attack him with his spear, but the Zombie Falcon retaliated. Bucky came to shoot him with his gun. Supergirl used her heat vision, hitting Sam in the stomach. But despite the burn, the Falcon continued to advance towards Bucky, growling. Then Okoye delivered the killing blow by stabbing Sam Wilson in half with his spear.
"That was your friend," she said to Bucky solemnly. "Sorry about that."
"I should be sad, but I'm not." the Winter Soldier replied in a neutral tone.
Supergirl was shocked when she saw the soldier's indifference. If it was her sister, J'onn or one of her friends who would have become a zombie, she would never be able to bring herself to kill this undead. She hoped the cure found at Camp Lehigh was working. If those around her were to turn into a zombie, she didn't know what she would do, or how to live after that. It was for this reason that she had not brought in Barry Allen (The Flash) and Oliver Queen (Green Arrow). She was about to do so upon arriving on Earth following Thanos' announcement, but circumstances had changed. She didn't want to risk her two friends from Earth – 1 becoming infected and becoming zombies like the Avengers.
"Let's go!" Okoye said as he started to run.
Sharon was still on the ground with Hawkeye's arrow hanging from her shoulder. She saw the zombie archer coming towards her, and to her horror, she saw Happy, turned zombie in turn, approaching her, brandishing Iron-Man's fist to shoot out a beam of energy. She's gonna to die if she didn't do anything. With much sadness and remorse, she gazed at her friend with determination.
"Sorry Happy!"
And she twisted Happy's fist, which shot at himself, killing him instantly. She managed to pull the arrow off her shoulder.
Hawkeye the zombie wanted to shoot a new arrow when Supergirl came in super speed and punched the zombie with his fists, sending it throwing against a rock wall. Then, she saw a whole herd of zombies making their way towards the two women.
Supergirl used her heat vision over the undead creatures, causing concretes blocks to fall on the zombies. She grabbed Sharon and flew away.
For his part, Peter was pulling with all his might the train which began to move. The young Avenger had managed to shoot several yards.
"Okay, come on, guys! I think I have about 4,000 pounds of thrust here."
"Hang in there, Peter. They're almost here." Banner announced.
"Okay, get ready to disengage the brake on my mark."
But zombies came by the right railroad on Peter, blocking his way. They were about to attack him when the Cloak of Levitation flew straight at the monsters, pushing them back. Then, Supergirl arrived in turn by the air.
"Hang on, Peter!"
She used her heat vision to push back zombies and blew them out with her super breath.
"Heck yeah, Cape! And well done, Supergirl!" Bruce Banner said happily.
"Supergirl is a remarkable woman!" Kurt added ecstatically.
A hand smashed through the window of a train cockpit door and grabbed Kurt. A zombie was trying to get on the train by attacking the man.
"No! No, no, bad zombie! Bad zombie!" Kurt moaned, struggling.
Then the Wasp appeared and shrank to attack the monsters by flying like an ordinary wasp.
"You are remarkable woman, too!"Kurt congratulated her ecstatically.
"The front of the train's all hooked up!" Hope announced to the others via communication.
"We're ready to go," Supergirl added, using her heat vision to push back the zombies.
"Copy that. Inbound." Bucky replied as he, Okoye and Sharon walked down the stairs to reach the underground platform.
Arriving at the train platform, a multitude of zombies invaded the station. Sharon fired at one of them with Happy's red glove and boarded the train. Bucky and Okoye did the same. The Wasp flew to a train window and once inside, resumed his normal size.
"We're all here! Go!" said the Wakandan warrior.
Kurt clicked the lever and the train started at high speed.
Peter lost his grip on the train, and fell to the ground, surrounded by zombies. He was caught by Supergirl and the Cloak of Levitation who took him safely inside the train. When she was assured that Spider-Man was safe, the Kryptonian flew behind the train, placed her hands on the roof of the convoy, and used her super strength to propel it forward at high speed, which crushed zombies in the process. The train left the station and headed for New Jersey.
"We did it." Bruce said, delighted. "Destination, Camp Lehigh."
As the train sped straight ahead, Peter, shocked at what had just happened, joined the other survivors with Doctor Strange's Cloak on his shoulders. Hope gave him a reassuring smile.
"It's a good look on you."
Supergirl joined them, smiling.
"Yup, she's right."
"Really?" Peter wondered incredulously. "You think I could pull it off?"
"Maybe you'll grow into it." Hope replied, slipping her arm over her shoulder.
"Or maybe you already is," Supergirl said, resting her hand on Spider-Man's other shoulder. "You did a good job getting the train hot-wire. Well done Spider-Man."
"I'm sorry," Okoye said regretfully. "You were right, Supergirl. We should have stayed together."
"We lost Happy," Supergirl said sadly.
"Happy," Peter whispered upset.
Noticing the teenager's grief, the Kryptonian stares at him in dismay.
"Were you close?"
Peter nodded with a tear falling from his eye.
Supergirl hugged him.
"I'm so sorry, Peter."
At the back of the train, Sharon watched as New York City receded as the train moved forward. With a thought for Happy and all the people she had lost during the outbreak, she looked away, when she heard footsteps above her head. A zombie was trying to enter the train through the roof.
Sharon wanted to retaliate, but part of the roof collapsed in front of her. At this point, the train entered a tunnel. Sharon could watch the zombie get up. With horror, she recognized this undead.
"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"
"Sharon! Sharon!" Bucky yelled, hearing the spy scream in fright.
He immediately joined the back of the train, but too late. Sharon was lifeless on the ground, with the zombie that had bitten her. Bucky recognized with amazement his former friend Steve Rogers aka Captain America turned into a zombie.
"I think you've had enough, Cap." said the Winter Soldier, brandishing his gun.
Steve the zombie stood up and eyed the human with a growl that showed his sharp fangs. And he rushed straight for his prey. Bucky shot him, but the zombie shielded himself from the bullets with Captain America's shield. Then he tried to hit him, but the shield blocked his way.
Supergirl and the Wasp arrived at the same time, to see the Winter Soldier wrestling with the First Avenger turned zombie in horror, could see Sharon stand up, turned into a zombie too.
"Bucky!" Hope cried, shrinking to go help her friend.
She slipped inside Sharon the zombie through her mouth, while Supergirl joined Bucky who was wrestling with Steve the zombie in melee.
She used her super-breath, throwing the zombie Avenger against the back of the train. Steve the zombie threw his shield which bounced off Supergirl's indestructible body, sending it back to its owner who stabbed Captain America the zombie in half and fell off the train.
"Sorry, pal." Bucky replied, picking up the shield. "I guess this is the end of the line."
"Sorry Cap," Supergirl said sadly at being forced to kill one of Earth's ancient superheroes. "I so wanted it to happen differently."
Turning around, they both saw Sharon standing a few feet away from them, roaring.
"Oh no, Sharon," Kara said horrified.
Then, Sharon exploded into a thousand pieces, making the Wasp appear at its normal size, all covered with pieces of zombie flesh.
Peter, Okoye and the Cloak joined them at this point. The Wasp stood still with what was left of Sharon Carter on her, to the great disgust of Kara.
"Uh… guys… I'm covered in Sharon."
"The kid has hand sanitizer." Okoye replied in a neutral and indifferent tone.
Hope lowered her helmet. Then Bruce Banner and Kurt joined them in turn.
Supergirl came to them.
"We just lost Sharon too," she said in a sad voice.
Then she noticed that Banner was looking at the Wasp with concern.
"Uh… Hope? I think you're in trouble."
And all could see that Hope had a slight red gash on her left shoulder. A zombie must have touched her. They all knew what was going to happen to her with horror and dismay.
"Rao, Hope," Supergirl cried in despair and horror. "No, no, not you too…"
Thank you for reading and reviewing.
I hope you enjoyed this new chapter too.
