Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Fire and Ice. Enjoy the 1500-word chapter. I don't own FF; Atsushi and a few others do.

Seko focused on the water molecules in front of him. They flew from the wall across the room to him. They slowly started to dance around his head as he hummed and continued to focus.

'I think the more I can focus on this? The better this power is to try and tame it.' Seko stated, trying to bend the water to his will. He could only ponder what it would be like.

The door opened as Maki entered, she turned and looked at the water wielding warrior as he hummed and looked over at her. He didn't break his concentration and turned his attention back to the water he held within his hands.

"Hey, Maki." Seko said, turning the rest of his body towards the water which began to form a shape from the orb. "This isn't as easy as you think, I'm kinda surprised I'm managing it so far." Seko said while trying to will the orb into another shape.

"Really?" Maki questioned as she took a seat next to Seko, crossing her feet under her. "What are you trying to make?" Maki asked which got a hum from Seko as he continued to stare at the orb between his hands.

"A star, it's not easy like you think it might be." Seko stated, sighing as he turned back to the orb. "I don't know how you guys do things like this. I'm straining just to try and put the water together properly." Seko added as he closed his eyes.

Maki watched as the points of the water started to slowly bend as Seko slowly forced it into the shape of a star. He watched a single end slowly turn into the familiar end of a star while he looked at her.

"Didn't you say something about controlling fireballs or something?" Seko questioned, turning what little of his attention to the woman as he could. "I don't think I can keep this shape up for that long." Seko said before suddenly dropping the water to the floor.

Maki brought her feet away from the cold liquid and simply turned to look at Seko. He rubbed at his temples, a pain moving through them, one he didn't wish to have. It cut at him, but there was little he could do.

The power he had? It required FAR more power then he could muster. It ate at his head to even attempt it. This ability was not normal, so it could not simply be used by someone.

"It's not as easy as you believe to use the power I have." Maki put in, resting a hand on his shoulder while Seko hummed. "Still, you should know something." Maki added to which Seko hummed and looked at the soldier with interest.

"Did it have something to do with them wanting to deploy me onto the battlefield?" Seko asked, gaining a raised eyebrow at this. "The captain came in a hour before you did. I told him I'll do my best, but I just don't know if I'm going to be able to stack up." Seko said before looking at the water upon the floor.

Part of him was proud to see things like this, the more things moved in a new direction? The better they could slowly change for the better… Or worse, but they would still change when it came down to it.

"I thought I told the captain I would tell you when I arrived." Seko stated which got Seko to shrug as he turned to look around with interest.

"I don't know, I'm not the captain to be fair, Maki." Seko stated and cracked his fingers. "But I am going to have to put in more training. I've just managed to get the water thing down, if their going to have me in the field? I'm going to have to improve a LOT when it comes down to it." Seko added, pausing so he could stand up with a hum.

"Somehow, I disagree." Maki added, bouncing back and forth as Seko prepared himself for another fight with her.

She surged forward, bringing both of her arms down as a hammer fist. Seko leapt backwards, backflipping into a crouch as he hummed and looked up at her with interest.

"Hmm." Seko stated as he cracked his fingers as he dodged a kick at his head. "Your trying to hit me harder and harder, theres no speed." Seko pointed out as he balled up his fists and continued to throw a punch towards Maki.

Seko was swept off his feet by Maki knocked him to the ground. He rolled backwards as she tried to stomp on his ribs, rolling into a crouch, he sighed as Maki grabbed his arm once more as he could easily been knocked to the ground once more.

Then again? He could only hope this woman wasn't planning to kill him. He looked at Maki, pain flooding the rest of his body more then anything. He grunted as he gazed at the bruises covering the rest of his body at the moment.

"Ok, I'm done for now…" Seko said, clutching his injured arm. "I feel like you may or may not have broken something." Seko stated, groaning and slowly staggering off the training area.

Maki hummed and walked over to him while Seko could only sit down, licking his wounds as he turned to question her.

"You know, you're a lot tougher then you might think…" Seko said, gaining a glare from her as he could only hum. "You know for a fact that there's plenty to do until this is done and dusted… And I don't think I'm quite ready for this… Least not yet." Seko added, trying to sooth the wounds he had.

"You never get better if you don't suffer at all." Maki added which was something that Seko could agree with if only for a bit.

"Doesn't mean it don't hurt, doesn't it?" Seko asked as he shook his head in disbelief.

"Pain is as much a teacher as anything else, Seko." Maki added to which Seko shrugged. "They will still need both of us tomorrow. There won't be any more training soon enough." Maki added as Seko nodded.

"Maybe, but this will NOT be as easy as you might think." Seko stated, cracking a smile. "There wont just be infernal to content with, you know. There's bound to be more monsters like whatever those ice creatures were soon enough. They just wont stop unless we force them to surrender." Seko added and sighed.

Maki said nothing, she pondered what these ice-like monsters would be. There hadn't been too many reports of these creatures around town… But they weren't dead yet, and whoever had created them? Didn't make them to keep peace in town, they were just as dangerous as infernals.

"Do you think someone creature those ice monsters to hurt more people?" Seko asked, curious as to what came next. "I could only hope these creatures aren't as common… I can't imagine people being turned into those things." Seko added, looking at one of the bruises she had given him.

Seko could only hope these creatures were taken down sooner or later. There was FAR too much suffering in the world around him to really believe it would be that easy, but he could hope. Seko turned to Maki who was starting to exit the room.

Maki nodded, once more hopeful that Seko would be ready for battle when he and her got into the battlefield. There was FAR too much at sake for her to simply back down… And she had given Seko all the training she could partly at the moment. there had to be some sort of progress or this would all be for nothing.

Maki left to get one of the doctors to look at Seko and make sure his wounds healed up properly. He'd have to be healed up right for the next phase of this operation. Still? Part of her felt bad for this, and yet? Part of her knew that Seko would be ok when it came down to it.

He cracked his fingers and looked once more out the window. This fight was quite fun, if he discounted the bruises and scrapes, he had gotten, plus he knew enough to put some wisdom from the fight had gotten into him.

Well, that or more pain, but both were equally as enlightening to him.

Phew. Another chapter done! I want to point out that next chapter will be a bit delayed or such. Next chapter will be in 2-10 months and will show more about Seko and Maki fighting and more about the ice monsters. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!

P.S: Next chapter will be 900-1500 words at the moment and might be delayed at the moment much more sadly.
