Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Fire and Ice. Enjoy the 1200-word chapter. I don't own FF; Atsushi and a few others do.

Whatever had brought the infernals had brought with it the new monsters. These ice monsters were to be dispatched; one was to be brought back to base to be studied. Seto heard the sounds of combat as he sighed.

"Why didn't they decide to give weapons training?" Seko questioned more to himself then anyone.

One of the snows like monsters charged Seko, ignoring the regular JDF soldiers trying to shoot it. Seko rolled to the side as he felt the air around him change. The ice like creature turned, snow and bullet casings dripping from it's gorilla like frame.

Seko sighed and looked at the creature. If it was a living being like the infernals that were being battled up the street? Then it was horribly disfigured, lumbering forward on stumps of packed ice and snow. Its right shoulder looked twisted out of place then smashed back into place roughly. Seko also could see its head was twisted about 90 degrees.

If this thing was in any way alive? Then Seko didn't feel that bad about putting it out of its misery.

"C'mon…" Seto stated while he awaited the creature to charge again.

It was bigger and taller than him. Seko was well aware he couldn't physically overpower this creature… Nor did he even wish to attempt to in the end. That would do nothing to help end this fight the more he thought about it.

The creature let out an inhuman roar and charged him. Seko turned before he held up a hand. Water rushed from under his armored uniform into his hand. He formed it into a sword and slashed the creature in the side as it passed.

The creature crashed into a car, sending bits of oil, scrap metal and such all over the road. Seto dodged a piece of metal that would have scarred his face had it connected with him. He brushed off his uniform as he turned.

He hadn't heard another creature rushing at him, throwing him across the road with a punch to the ribs. He felt pain lance all up and down his body. Seko was sent rolling across the pavement.

"Ow…" Seko said, holding a hand to his ribs while his sword collapsing into a bunch of water. "Ok, I can't let one of those connect." Seko added while cracking his neck.

Pain lanced up from his stomach. He shook his head, trying to clear out the metaphorical cobwebs from it. Seko expected this mission to be tough, but he was hopeful that he could overcome this.

"GRR….!" One of the ice monsters roared while charging at him. "CRUSH!" One of the creatures and looked forward once more.

Its arm transformed into a crude mace which Seko's eyes widened as he rushed forward. The creature swung only for Seko to roll under the creature's limb while he slashed it once more.

"Damn it…" Seko muttered to himself as he shook his head. "Oy…" Seko said before he cracked his fingers and felt pain dance up and down them like knives.

He shrugged off the pain. He knew this couldn't slow him. If it did? He died and the last thing he wanted to do was let these lowly creatures do him in.

He turned to face them as one brought down it's spiked mace once more. Seko pivoted and slashed through the limb, sending it to the ground along with whatever matter was inside the limb.

Seko was forced to throw himself backwards as the second ice like golem came at him with an axe. He cursed and dodged and ducked as best he could. One wrong swing was all it would take to end his life and while Seko wanted to do EVERYTHING in his power to avoid that?

He was still a day one rookie. Every wound would stack, every labored breath through his body proved just how warn down this simple effort was. He sighed to himself as he looked around for a weapon to turn the tides of this battle.

"Of course, I get sent to handle something I'm struggling with." Seko muttered and shook his head. "The others must think I'm weak." Seko muttered as he turned around to greet these creatures.

The first ice like creature raised its axe before a punch sent it flying. Ice and snow exploded from its gaping maw. He watched Maki land in a crouch, her common witch hat atop her head.

"These things are different from infernals." Seko stated and held a hand to his ribs. "I can't tell if their alive or breathing. Their stronger than one, though. That punch almost caved my ribs in." Seko added while grunting and focusing on powering through the pain.

"Remember what we got told, ok?" Maki questioned as Seko nodded.

"Yeah, but I won't lie." Seko said as the creatures started to recover. "I'm going to need help. These things are strong and fast. I cut that one's arm off and it didn't even seem to slow it down." Seko added before rubbing his free hand through his temples.

"I got the one with the mace." Maki added while rushing forward as Seko blinked.

"She shows up to save me and already goes back into a fight." Seko muttered before charging as well.

Maki leapt off one of the axe wielding ice golems, the force of her feet sending it to the ground as she tackled the other golem to the ground. Seko took the opportunity to slash through its leg, the strain throwing him to the ground as well.

"Damn it…" Seko muttered to himself while the creature rose.

Seko watched as twisted flesh was covered by more ice. This creature was living, powered by the cold unfeeling fury. He was quick to stab the creature through the mouth, driving his blade straight through it as it gurgled snow. The creature collapsed to the ground while Seko grunted, the pain keeping him down.

He turned to see Seko attacking the other creature. She slammed her fist into its chest, throwing snow and ice everywhere. Seko started to remember the good reason he DIDN'T anger Maki in the brief time he had known her.

"Damn it, that girl is not human." Seko stated to himself while he started to climb to his feet, planting the sword into the ground to help himself back up to his feet.

"Maki?" Seko asked while leaning on the body of the dead creature. "How do you do this type of work?" Seko questioned to himself more than her.

Maki continued to smash her fists into the creature before it slowly stopped moving. Seko leaned on the body to stop himself.
