My Hero Academia: The BATMAN (Short Story) Part 3
The Date:
Arriving a good thirty minutes early, Izuku was a bit surprised to see Mina already there. For a brief moment in route, he believed that she was not going to show up. But then when he saw her waiting, he began to wonder if perhaps she probably was as nervous and anxious as he was. After a normal greeting, neither basically had any idea what to do. For they both admitted that they had not gone on a date before with anyone. So it was uncharted territory for both of them. Inside the Theater they sat next to each other and Shared a Extra Large Popcorn and each had a Large Drink. Which was a bad thing due to that by the time the First ALIEN Movie, they both had to go use the Restroom and then come back to see that a good five minutes of the Movie had already passed by. So during a boring scene, Mina whispered to him what had happened prior. By the end of the Third Movie, it was near 2 PM and both of them were hungry. Heading for a Local Diner, they sat at a booth and Mina asked the burning question that he hoped she wouldn't. "So how did you like them?" She asked him and he winced.
"Uhm...Actually I..." Izuku was tempted to lie and say he liked the Movies. But in truth he didn't. The First one, it was obvious that the Alien was just some guy in a Costume. The overall acting of the Second was to him boring and by the time the third one rolled around. He just did not like it. "I...didn't really like them." He said and Mina scowled at him. "Oh I liked the Aliens in the Second and Third one...but not really the Movies." He added and she smiled.
"Yeah most of my friends said the same thing." Mina admitted and then when the Waitress came they placed their orders. They talked about this or that and some about their families. Then a future plans came up. "Next week I am taking the Hero Written Exam. I am hoping to attend UA and be a Hero." She then paled slightly and wished she had not mentioned that to Izuku. "Oops sorry." She apologized and Izuku shook his head.
"It is alright. I actually am hoping to attend UA too." Izuku said and smiled. Mina looked at him with a bit of shock as she bit into her Grilled Cheese Sandwich.
"Not as a Hero right?" Mina asked as she then ate some of her French Fries. He shook his head again.
"No. There is a new Support subject that they are starting this year. Strategic Analytical Support. I am going to try to get into that courses." Izuku said with a small smile. He had thought about taking the Hero Exam as well. But then realized that even though he could pass the Practical. It would pose questions on how him being Quirkless could pass the Practical. Those questions might lead the Teachers and others to start investigating him. In time they might even come to the conclusion that he had extra ordinary skills and boom they would piece it together that he was Batman. So he needed to go a different route. Keeping a low profile as Izuku and still try to keep Batman in the Shadows.
"Hey if we both go to UA then we can..." Mina blushed slightly. "Maybe continue seeing each other." She whispered and this time Izuku blushed. The rest of the date went extremely well and by the time it was over. They both wanted to go out again.
Saturday Night:
Being in the wrong place at the wrong time is a common occurrence. That was what happened for Momo Yaoyorozu. She had just come out of the City Scientific Research Library and a Criminal that was running from the Police and two Heroes grabbed her. Encircling her with his stretching right arm. At the same time he moved in behind her. "MOVE AND SHE DIES!" He said to the Heroes and Police. Then to her. "Man I got lucky to get me a total piece like you as a Hostage. So when I leave and take you with me. Me and you are going to have some fun." He said to her and Momo struggled within his grip. She could not even move her arms as she tried to think of something to create to free herself from the Criminal that held her. At most she wanted to somehow get him to stop fondling her breasts with his hand.
"Let the Girl go!" Deatharms growled threateningly as he kept his distance and the Criminal laughed.
"You know if I tighten my grip around her...Have you ever seen those nature shows were a Boa Constrictor squeezes it's prey to death?" The Criminal asked and was about to give a small demonstration. But out of nowhere a dark object streaked in and hit him right on the bridge of his nose. The impact rocked his head back and at the same time broke his nose. He bellowed in pain, squeezing his eyes shut. Causing him to retract his stretched out hand and arm. Reacting to the discomfort and pain of his broken nose he moved both of his hands to his face. Freeing Momo long enough for her to rush away from him and over to the Heroes. The Criminal could not see at all as tears ran down his cheeks. "AHHHH." He protested in pain and before he could react, Deatharms tackled him and forced him to the ground. Momo casually picked up what had struck the Criminal and stared at it. Then glanced from where it had come from and she saw the Dark clad man standing on top of a building. He waved at her then disappeared into the shadows behind him. Gunhead stepped up next to her and chuckled.
"The Batman." Gunhead said and Momo looked over at him.
"Do you mean he is real? I thought that all those internet postings were fake or exaggerated?" Momo asked and Gunhead chuckled again.
"Yep he is real. I would go after him...but by the time I got up there...I have this feeling that he is long gone." Gunhead said thinking about some of the other Heroes that had tried to chase or capture the Batman. They had spent hours rushing about and by that time whoever the Batman was. He was probably back home. Momo looked back to the top of the Building and smiled. While she slipped the Arc Shaped Metal object into her pocket. Deciding to keep it as a memento.
Later back home, Momo reopened the Internet Postings and looked at the Videos and images again. She had originally thought that all of them were concocted or exaggerated by those that had posted them. She analyzed what Batman had done. While standing on a Rooftop of a Building about fifty meters away and four stories up. He had thrown the Metal Arc she held in her hand perfectly. Hitting the Criminal that held her hostage right in a sensitive spot that guaranteed to immobilize him enough for her to get away. "Whoever Batman is...he is extremely well trained." She whispered and then began to compile the Sightings and Postings into categories. Paying close attention to some of the videos that showed him taking down Criminals. "He is using some Martial Arts that I have never seen before. Extremely effective Martial Arts." She said to herself and smiled. Deciding that she wanted to meet this Batman. Perhaps convince him to train her. But to meet him meant that she would have to do something really really risky.
School Days:
"WAIT! WHAT THE FUCK DEKU! FOR FUCKING YEARS YOU AGGRAVATED ME BY SAYING YOU WANT TO BE A HERO AND NOW...AND NOW YOU NO LONGER ARE GOING TO...I AUGHT TO KICK YOUR ASS FOR PISSING ME OFF!" Katsuki Bakugo roared right after learning from Izuku that he considered a Quirkless loser was not going to take the Hero Examination.
"I now believe you might be right Kacchan...there is no way I could be a Hero without a Quirk. So I am going to try to get into that new Course at UA instead. The Strategic Analytical Support. It sounds like something I might be good at." Izuku said and Katsuki growled again. Completely and utterly frustrated. Unsure if he should beat Izuku up for causing him such frustration. Instead of beating him for having an obsessive desire to be a hero when in all logic and sense. There was no possible way that Izuku could be one. Not like he could. With another growl, Katsuki stormed off. Still unsure and confused whether he should have beaten Izuku up.
Watching Katsuki depart fuming, Izuku chuckled and shook his head. Then went to his locker to get his Study Guides for the Test that he would be taking next week. Everyone in his and Katsuki's Class would be taking assorted Placement Exams. But only he and Katsuki were taking ones for UA. None of the others in Class had such an impressive Quirk as Katsuki had and none of the others even considered taking any of the other Placement Exams for UA. So it was just him and Katsuki. Heading for home and as he walked. Mina called him wanting to talk. Also making sure he remembered about their date on Friday at 5 PM. Though she really wanted to see him before then. So they arranged to meet at the Collectible Store after they both got out of their respective School's on Wednesday.
Friday Night Encounter:
Running across the Rooftops, Izuku in his Batman persona stayed within the Shadows. He found it interesting that the Police and the Local Heroes all knew that he centered his attention on this part of the City. Yet they still had not tried to interfere or even try to reduce his activities. Though from what he could tell, he was having a positive impact on the amount of Crime there or rather as he reached that area. Here. Looking down at the Streets he did not see any of what he could tell were the Criminal Element. He knew that it was impossible for him to actually have encountered all the Criminals in that area of the City or that they have turned over a new leaf. No he more likely suspected that the Criminals were too afraid to come across him, so they were avoiding doing anything that might draw his attention. Fear of the Batman was working. As he looked about those down on the street, a Girl that appeared way out of place caught his eye. She was walking basically back and forth from one Corner to another. From what he could tell she was trying to lure someone to her and after he recognized her from the other night. He knew exactly who she was trying to lure to her and it was him. There was no other logical explanation for her to be in this part of the City and acting the way she was. So he decided to oblige her. Removing a Grappling hook with about twenty meters of TA 50 Cord, he threw it across to the Building to the left of where she was pacing. It accurately spun around one of the Roof Ledge Poles and hooked. He then tightened the line and tied it to a nearby Pole that was securely connected to the Roof. He ran across the improvised Tightrope onto the other Building without anyone seeing him. Once there, he slipped down into the Darkened Alley that the Girl was walking in front of. Keeping to the darkness, he waited until she was just about to pass the Alley again. "You know it is not exactly safe out here at night." He said to her and the Girl jumped to the side towards the street. Her right hand came up with a TAZER. But she did not fire it. He stepped out to just within the dim light. She could make out his outline and that was about it.
"Don't do that? I almost...had an accident." The Girl said as she squinted in an attempt to see him more clearly.
"What are you doing here, Miss? Like I said this is not exactly a safe place for you to be at." Izuku/Batman asked and the Girl smiled slightly.
"You are Batman...Right?" The Girl asked and he did not say anything. Which told her that he was. "Good. I am Momo Yaoyorozu and...well the other day you saved me from that...Long armed pervert." She said and again he said nothing.
"What do you want Miss Yaoyorozu?" He asked and she smiled.
"I watched some of the videos on the Internet. You see I plan on attending UA in the Hero Course because I want to be a Hero. To that end I have taken a lot of different Martial Art Styles and I sort of noticed on those Videos...Your Style is...Unique and completely different from any style I have seen before." Momo said and Izuku/Batman did not respond. So she took it that he was fully aware of that fact. "Would you mind telling me where you learned that and who taught you?"
"Sorry. Can't tell you that. If there is nothing else...I would suggest that you go home." Izuku told her and Momo stopped smiling.
"So how about you teach me that Style?" Momo asked.
"Can't do that either. Now I have work to do...so...have a Good Night." Izuku stepped back into the Shadows and as he climbed up the Walls of the Alley. He watched Momo create and pull a high powered flashlight out of her bare stomach. Turn it on and point it where he had been two seconds ago. Before she could pan it upwards, he had already climbed onto the Roof and moved to a spot in the Shadows where she could not direct the Flashlight's light at him.
"I am not giving up this easily." Momo muttered with a small smile. As she walked to where to be picked up by her Chauffeur. She had observed several things about Batman. "He is rather Short...a few inches shorter then myself. Also his voice is young sounding...even though he tried to make it sound older. I would summarize that he is not much older then myself." That told her a lot about him and that really peaked her interest. Now wanting to not just be trained by him, but also she found herself attracted to him.
On the Roof, Izuku watched Momo Yaoyorozu get into a Luxury Car and then a Man drove her away. "Why do I get the feeling that I am going to see her again." He closed his eyes and let out a deep sigh. Deciding to call it a night and go home. It did not take him long to reach the Bakery and once he removed his Costume, he slumped into a nearby Chair. Tonight was warmer then most nights and as he toweled off his Sweat, he looked over at his Equipment. Tomorrow he would have to restock and also send in another five Coins to restore some of his finances. He had spent almost all of what he had before and now there was not much left in the Account. An hour later he was once more back in his Bedroom and after rubbing some Bengay on some of his sore muscles, he laid down and went to sleep. Awakening with a groan and to his Cellphone Ringing. It took him three attempts to first grab his Phone and then it took a few moments to get his tired gritty eyes to focus enough to answer. "H..Hello." He grumbled.
"Oops. Did I wake you up?" Mina's voice asked from the Phone and Izuku sat up. Fully now awake.
"Yes and No. I was actually going to get up. Oh no...am I late for our date?" Izuku asked in panic as he glanced over at his Alarm Clock then exhaled with relief. It was only 8 AM and their date was not for another two hours.
"No. I just wanted to talk to you. I sort of missed you." Mina said and Izuku smiled.
"We saw each other last night." Izuku said and Mina giggled.
"I know. I still missed you." Mina said over the Phone and he liked hearing her say that.
By the end of their Date, Mina made the suggestion that they become a couple. That she be his Girlfriend. He was reluctant at first, wondering if being in a Relationship with Mina would interfere with him being Batman. But he really liked Mina and really wanted to be her Boyfriend. Though he knew it was too soon to tell her about him being Batman, so he did feel bad about keeping that secret from her.
Two Weeks Later:
Detective Tsukauchi was losing his mind. The Sightings and the incidents of Batman were increasing. Though he was relieved that so far Batman restricted his activities to that of the Lower Income Areas of the City. Where a good portion of the Crimes were committed within the City. No matter how hard he tried or requested, he could not get an increased Police or Hero Presence to be sent to the areas that Batman was conducting his activities. He suspected that the Higher Ups in the Police and the Hero Administration were basically ignoring what the Vigilante was doing. Mainly due to the decrease in Crime. Tsukauchi had interviewed all the Criminals that had their encounters with Batman and all of them swore that Batman was an actual Demon or Vampire from hell. So he was torn. His duty required that he arrest Batman. But at the same time, he had to admit that the Batman was extremely effective on reducing Crime. Right now though, he was on his way to ask an old friend some advice on how to handle the situation. Along with asking his friend to perhaps capture Batman.
Tsukauchi knew from past experiences that All Might just could not be inconspicuous. It just was not in the Pro Heroes nature to not draw attention to himself. That was the problem the Police Detective had at the moment as they waited in hopes that Batman might make an appearance tonight. Tsukauchi stood there next to the number one Pro Hero thinking that even with wearing a Trench Coat and a large hat. All Might had an aura about him that anyone with a brain would know that it was him. So Tsukauchi doubted that Batman would be stupid enough to even come near them. He had tried to suggest to All Might to revert to his weaker persona Toshinori Yagi. But his friend dismissed it and claimed that if it became necessary for All Might to be ready to react. Taking time to change could waste valuable seconds. Tsukauchi did not really believe the explanation. He knew his friend marveled in being All Might as long as possible, even though due to his injuries that time was getting shorter and shorter. As he was about to suggest that they call it a day or rather a night. Batman swooped down to confront a crime that both Tsukauchi and All Might had somehow missed. Before the Detective could say anything, All Might pulled off his Trench Coat and jumped towards the short confrontation. For the Criminal had been subdued and now hung by his feet by some type of cord. "I AM HERE!" The Pro Hero announced as he landed a few feet from the scene. Tsukauchi moved towards them, but then staggered when a blinding flash erupted between All Might's Feet blinding not only the Pro Hero but Tsukauchi as well. Blinking several times, the Police Detective was finally able to stand besides All Might who was rubbing his eyes trying to see.
"I take it that he got away." Tsukauchi said still trying to see clearly and his Friend grunted.
"Yeah. He got away." All Might said in frustration. "As soon as I tried to grab him...he threw something and that is where that flash came from." The Pro Hero explained and Tsukauchi shook his head.
"A Flashbang or Flash Bomb. I have heard he also uses Smoke and Gas Bombs as well. He also seems to be able to disappear from out of nowhere." Tsukauchi said and All Might then smiled. Chuckling and then reached up to free the Criminal that was hanging a good meter off the Ground by his feet. He hand the Cord to Tsukauchi who examined it.
"This is ordinary TA 50 Cord. Something that anyone can buy at any Hardware or Camping Store." Tsukauchi said dropping the Cord in a nearby Trashcan. For he doubted that even the Forensic Scientists would find anything useful from the Cord. Or the remnants of the Flash Bomb that was shattered into fragments at All Might's feet.
"I guess that is all for tonight. He probably is long gone." All Might said though he felt completely embarrassed that he had been tricked like he had been. He had thought that he would easily be able to capture Batman. But Batman was too quick and as he tried to get a hold of him, he had thrown that Flashbang or Bomb right between All Might's feet. Then used the distraction to depart.
"Now you know the Problem I have been having. Though you might have noticed earlier that not many citizens around here are volunteering to help us." Tsukauchi said and All Might nodded. Earlier when they had arrived they had tried to illicit some of the Citizens to report any of the sightings so that they could set a trap for Batman. None of the Residents or Citizens of the area declined. Then verbally told them to leave Batman alone. That he was a true Hero in that he was reducing the amount of Crime in the area. Quoting the fact that the Heroes and Police assigned there were basically worthless.
"I have an idea that might work...but we will have to ask for some help from a couple of fellow Heroes I know. Midnight and Eraserhead." All Might said as they headed for Tsukauchi's parked car a block away. Upon arrival at the Car. What added insult to injury. There was note on the Windshield of the car. Tsukauchi picked up the note and read it. Then he scowled as he thrust it to All Might. Who read it out loud. "BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME. FROM THE BATMAN." The Pro Hero laughed loudly.
"Get anyone you want. This is now personal." Tsukauchi said then he had to laugh as well. The Batman had really got them good.
A Block away, Izuku knew it was a mistake to leave that note. But he could not help himself. He was still jazzed over the fact that the Police had sent All Might to try to capture him. It was a complete thrill to escape the clutches of the Number One Pro Hero. Smiling under his mask, he made his way back to the Bakery. Wanting to write what had happened in his Journal that he kept there.
Discovered:
Climbing into his Bedroom Window after scaling the Outside Wall. Izuku still felt somewhat pleased with himself. But he had made a huge mistake tonight. Tonight unlike other nights when he went on his nocturnal activities. When he came back he always made sure that his Mother was in her room asleep, though tonight he did not have to since she was in the Hospital with a deviated septum. He also made sure no one was in his bedroom. He did not expect to suddenly come into his bedroom to find Mina sitting on his bed staring at him wide eyed. "Because your Mother is in the Hospital until Monday...I came over earlier to keep you company." Mina said as she stared at him accusingly. "When you did not answer the door...I used that hideaway key you showed me when I first came over last week to meet your Mother." She explained as if she was dazed and confused. "Do you want to tell me...tell me what is going on Izuku? Why and how did you just come in through your window? The only thing I can even consider is that you...that you are...Tell me that you are not..." Izuku exhaled and decided he had no choice but to tell the truth.
"Mina...I was going to eventually tell you. I swear I was. What you are thinking and believing is right. I am...I am the Batman." Izuku said calmly and before he could say anything else, she blinked a could of times and then seemed to slump face first onto the bed. He lunged and caught her before she completely fell off the bed onto the floor.
