Chapter 2: Family turned into Dust

It was late at night and Kotaro was in his house, sat on his couch reading a book. His wife is sleeping, his kids are asleep, so he wanted some time for himself.

A knock on the door made him raise a brow. He looked at the clock on the wall. It was 23:47, no one should be knocking on his door this hour.

He stood up and went to the door. "Yes?"

"Hello Kotaro. May I come in?" So, it was his father, Izuku.

He smiled as he unlocked the door. His dad is a mysterious man, but he was always around. His mom was busier with her hero work and sometimes she wasn't around for longs periods of time. His dad was always there.

"Hey dad, you usually just come through the wall." Kotaro greeted and frowned seeing the tired look of his dad.

"Yes, but this time I have some baggage." Izuku said with a tired smile and Kotaro noticed the suitcase he had.

Kotaro frowned "I take things with mom aren't going alright."

Izuku sighed "Can I come inside?"

Kotaro nodded and guided Izuku inside "Can I offer you some tea?"

Izuku nodded as he sat on the sofa "It would be great. Thank you."

After he served his dad tea, he sat down in front of him "This time is for real?" Kotaro asked and Izuku closed his eyes as he drank his tea.

"I... think so." Izuku sighed and passed his hand across his face. "We are probably getting divorced soon."

"I'm sorry dad. I know it hurts." Kotaro tried to comfort his father and Izuku smiled.

"It does... I still love her but... it seems she doesn't anymore."

Kotaro frowned. He isn't used seeing his father so sad. He opened his mouth to say something, when footsteps came from the stairs.

"Dad? With who are you talking?" Tenko Shimura asked as he rubbed his eyes and was in his pijamas.

Kotaro smiled seeing his son "With your grandpa. Say hi Tenko."

Izuku smiled seeing his grandson lose all sleepiness and rushed to him "Gramps!"

He hugged Izuku and he patted his black hair "Hello Tenko. You had grown quite a lot since I last saw you."

Tenko grinned "Why are you here? It is late!"

Kotaro smiled "Well... your grandpa is going to be staying here with us for some time."

Tenko eyes shined at the news "Really! And what about grandma?"

Izuku eyes saddened but he kept on smiling "She is staying at our home. It is only me." He smirked "But it seems that isn't enough for you."

"No! You are amazing gramps!"

Kotaro smiled as he went to look for the things necessary for his father to sleep.

*Next Morning*

Hana and Tenko were all over their grandfather as Nao was serving breakfast "It is such a nice surprise to have you here, Izuku." She said smiling.

Izuku nodded as Hana was making his hair into pigtails "Well, I hoped it was under better circumstances."

Hana stopped and looked at him with a raised brow "Did something happen?" She asked and Izuku shook his head.

"Nothing for you to worry. Say, why don't I take you two to school today?" He suggested and Tenko nodded his head.

"That would be awesome! Let's go already!" Tenko grabbed Izuku's hand and started to drag him to the door "Let's go Hana!"

"Wait!"

Izuku placed the cup of coffee on the table as he let himself be dragged "Thanks for the breakfast, Nao."

As they left Nao turned to her husband "What happened?"

Kotaro who was reading the news sighed "It seems mom and dad are getting a divorce."

Nao frowned "Did this surprise your father?"

Kotaro shook his head "It is hard to tell, but he somehow always knows."

*Streets*

"...Isn't my quirk cool or what?" Hana bragged as she showed her gramps her quirk, Magnetism.

Tenko nodded "Sis is so cool... but my quirk will be way better!" He declared and Izuku laughed.

"Well, when it shows up, you can showoff like Hana does with her amazing quirk."

As he delivered the kids to school, he walked towards a nearby park to think. He is close to being divorced, has no work and Yagi doesn't need more training. Leaving him... with a lot of free time. He is 54 years old but looks around his 20s and feels even better.

Maybe he can find a job... but in what?

He looked at the distance, a young couple sat on the grass and smiled seeing them. When he and Nana got married, he was 43 and she was 25. Even if it sounds like a huge age gap, almost 20 years, it didn't matter. They loved each other.

They really did...

He sighed. Hopefully the divorce papers come quickly so he can move on as fast as possible.

*5 Months Later*

"Hello Hikage, it has been a while since I last came to see you." Izuku said, placing flowers on Hikage's grave.

"It has been... some busy months to say the least. I got divorced." He said as his hair flowed with the wind "I had been living with my son's family during this time. Tenko and Hana are just adorable." he smiled "One day I will bring them here. They will love the views and they would have loved to meet you."

He took out his pocket watch and nodded "It's getting late, but I promise I'll come back more often. I hope you are still resting well."

The trip from the mountains to Kotaro's home is a couple of hours. And when he arrived, the first thing he heard was Tenko crying. He rushed to the backyard and saw Tenko, surrounded in dust and ash as he was crying. He looked up to see Izuku "G-Gramps?"

"Tenko... what happened?" He asked as he approached the shaking boy.

"S-Stay back! I-I don't want to hurt you!"

Izuku ignored him and hugged him "It's okay... it's okay..."

*Hospital*

Decay... that's how they called Tenko's quirk. Tenko cried himself to sleep as Izuku caressed his hair. Kotaro is dead. Nao is dead. Little Hana is dead...

It was an accident. Tenko didn't meant to harm any of them. He can't blame him for that disaster.

He will take care of Tenko from now on. Nana is too busy to watch a kid with PTSD, and there is no way he will let the system take care of his grandson.

His only family left...

"...And in other news, the villain attack still continues, with All Might fighting the villain, All for One."

Torino called him to go and help. He refused, not because he wants them to lose, but because Tenko needs them.

Heroes sometimes are selfish, busier saving strangers than caring for their families. Good thing he is no hero. He never was and never will be.

"Gramps?"

But for Tenko, he will.

"Don't worry Tenko. I am here."
