authorsnote: oh damnnn its a new fandom

okay, so basically I binged the entire tv show yesterday (yes all 8 episodes in one go, and then rewatched it today), read the first book and have the rest on the way. I am OBSESSED. so expect A LOT of fics for this on my page and if you haven't watched or read shadow and bone I HIGHLY recommend it, cause hot damn it was good.

anywho enjoy this lil one shot, there will be many more and a multific to come. also I understand I'm posting in the grisha tribology section when this is more show based, BUT there is almost no fandom for the tv show here, and for all my stories there will be book elements.

I do hope you enjoy, pls review and lemme know if you wanna see more of this verse! it will always be darklina cause otp for life!

songrecs: I really enjoy the mash-up youtube performance by camila cabello of her two songs: all these years/used to this, and the latter works for this fic solo too.

'I'll be waiting'

And wait she did.

Her lips tingled, the swooping in her stomach did not stop, the tingle in her fingers and the utter sense of joy refused to budge. She was glad it didn't, this happiness was rare, especially for her. Coming to this place she had never felt sadder, never felt more like running away, but now, here, with the taste of Aleksander on her lips, she didn't think she'd ever felt happier, and running away was the last thing on her mind.

In a fit of happiness the sun came to her, and she illuminated it on her hands, splitting the beam with more ease than ever, the blinding quality of the light even better than it had been at the demonstration, and this was all her, no reflecting chandelier, no gloves, not even Aleksander, though she knew he was responsible for such joy.

He amplified her yes, but she could do it on her own, which he'd known, as no other had.

And he was responsible for her happiness, she wasn't sure how it had happened so fast, but his kindness, his smile, and the way he looked at her, like no one else ever had, like she was special, something to be respected, prized, adored. No one had ever looked at her that way before.

She smiled to herself, the light dying as she turned to look at his gift, the blue irises, her favourite. She picked them up, unable to stop her grin from growing as she took in their scent. She had no idea how he knew these were her favourite, but she was sure that just showed how much he cared for her, to learn that.

And he did care for her, she was sure of it, she remembered his words…

'You and I are going to change the world Alina'

'You were perfect'

'I've been waiting a long time for you'

'You mean a lot…'

They would, and that was the most important bit – together. She could get used to it.

The creak of the door to her left had her reigniting her light, stunned out of her daydream, Aleksander's words about her being a target straight on her mind as she cast the sun on her palms again, only letting it go as she recognised the person, by face and voice.

"Come with me"

"Baghra, what are you…?" And yet she wasn't allowed to finish that sentence.

"Stupid girl" She raised an eyebrow, such admonishments were hardly uncommon from her trainer, but what was she annoyed about now? "No time to dawdle"

Suddenly she was being steered to the door, one she hadn't even noticed before, and yet she glanced back to where Alexsander had just left, and pulled her hand free "No"

She wasn't sure why she wasn't following, always listening to Baghra through fear of being hit with a stick if you didn't, but she still had the tingle to her lips, still could feel Alexsander's hands on her waist, had promised to wait for him, and intended to do so.

'I'll be waiting'

She didn't want to leave, not now.

"You need to leave this place" Baghra insisted, and she felt a sudden panic run through her, to see her teacher so insistent, so worried, she was usually so calm. Alina gulped down some fear, never wanting to give into it.

'Never let them see you cry' As Mal had said, but her heart hardened at that – Mal had left her.

Aleksander hadn't… And so, how could she leave him?"

"No" She repeated, pulling her wrist free once more and taking a step back again, her eyes flickering to the main door which remained closed. Worry ran through her again – what was going on?

"Baghra, why?" Alina asked, her gaze once again flickering to the door, "What is this?" And yet she took another step back, away from her teacher, this felt wrong.

She liked to think that since coming to the Little Palace, even though she hadn't liked it, nor thrived in it, she liked to think she'd gained some skill beyond her summoning, some further understanding of people, some more suspicion than perhaps healthy. She liked to think she was less naïve, and this situation, Baghra so insistent and yet serious, the target on her back, Aleksander not here to support her, it all felt wrong, like there was a creeping sensation up her spine, wrong.

"We need to go now, before it's too late" Baghra's gaze flickered to the door, and that only had her taking another step back in fear and fury, why was Baghra trying to get her to leave?

"Tell me why" She insisted again, "Or I'm not coming"

"You fool" Baghra threw back, though Alina wasn't surprised by that, she still held the bruises from her training sessions, harsh words were light in comparison, "Now"

"No…" She began, but then the other door swung open then, cutting her off, and she felt a palpable relief as Aleksander stepped inside, looking a little on edge, but back here, with her.

Where they both belonged, together.

"You're here" She breathed out, and she knew the relief was evident on her face, in her voice, in her body. She turned then, to look at Baghra, for answers now Aleksander – the General (as she had to remind herself to call him in public) had returned, but she was gone, the door shut, as though she had never come.

"Are you alright?" He asked, and the concern in his voice was touching, she near forgot about Baghra, about her cryptic attempt to take her away as he approached, a smile on his lips, his eyes only for her.

"Yes" She breathed, taking a step closer, the words on her lips, to mention Baghra, to ask him if he had tried to send for her, to warn him what it could mean.

But the words on her lips were stolen, as soon as his descended on her.

All thought flew from her mind, all worry, all fear. Baghra was long forgotten, as was the fete, Maria taking her place, all of it forgotten as his lips met hers one more and she felt that same joy, that same happiness, the rush of adrenaline and desire through her veins.

His lips on hers were like magic, gave her the same feeling as when sunlight came from her palms. Everything else was forgotten, as she felt cherished, by him, his lips, his hands, him.

Once again, he lifted her, to sit on the table, and she opened her legs for him to nestle between without hesitation, there was no hesitation when it came to him. His hands held her waist, hard and yet there was no pain, only the sense of being wanted, wanted like no one had ever wanted her before, it felt magical.

Her hands were in his hair, those dark locks entwined with her fingers as she tugged on them, trying to keep herself steady, though that was no small task, her mind woozy with desire, as he continued to kiss her, frying her senses, her mind only focused on him, she couldn't have thought about anything but him if she wanted to, thankfully she didn't.

"Are you sure?" He asked, pulling back again, resting his forehead to hers, and she was sure she had never felt anything so intimate, had never experienced anything so close to devotion. There was no question, not to her.

"Yes" She spoke, the one word, and his grin had her heart leap in her chest, as his lips came to hers again, his hand swept the papers from the table, lifting her onto it, climbing on top of her, her irises forgotten and broken on the floor, petals scattered, but her mind on him, only him; Aleksander.

His kiss was like sunlight to her veins, igniting her, illuminating her, pulling it from her, to meet him, his darkness, that she knew didn't run deep, it couldn't, he was too good.

"Alina" He muttered against her lips, pulling back for just one second, before they took the plunge, the dive. She felt almost as though she were flying, or perhaps about to step off a large cliff. But she knew he'd be there with her.

Together.

Again, she nodded, and then he descended upon her once more, to bring them together, as one, his lips to hers, his smirk of triumph easily fooling her for a grin, as he took her, Alina Starkov, the Sun Summoner, his, for more than she knew.
