'Car rides to malibu…

He practically forces her onto his firebolt, 'It's my birthday', he doesn't go fast, hurtle to the ground as she'd expected, dip and weave but instead drifts along for a little while, turning to sit side saddle with her, floating over the Forbidden Forest which looks much more dense and slightly less scary when they are above it.

He drifts them into the clouds, kisses her as the air dances around them. She's always hated flying but finds it a little more pleasant when his lips are on hers (and she doesn't look down until right near the end and he has her on the ground soon after she starts screaming).

He does kiss her again when they touch back down which makes her feel better.

Strawberry ice cream, one spoon for two'

They sit outside of Fortescues. He prefers vanilla, she lemon sorbet, but they often end up nibbling from one another's spoons (or she his, he insists it is undignified … before stealing a spoonful when he's convinced no one is watching) She steals his wafer, he rolls his eyes but always orders two anyway, he insists on getting a coffee as well and even once experimentally dribbled it on his ice cream and she'd looked on in horror.

Once they share a sundae, a new creation of Florence's on an abnormally hot day. It's strawberry, with cream and little macarons. They dig their spoons in, she ends up with whipped cream on her nose, and she'll never forget his smile as he wipes it off.

They once try ice cream at Madam Proudfoots but had left after two minutes unable to handle the décor and instead had laughed their way to the Three Broomsticks for butterbeer.

'And tradin' jackets, laughin' bout how small it looks on you'

By the time they've gone public she often wanders around in his Slytherin scarf, not to divide house loyalties, but it is much, much comfier than her Gryffindor one, and she can practically hide under it in the library, wrapping it around and around her face as snow falls outside, her chilly nose now protected.

Over summer she'll wear his Quidditch jersey, proud, the name 'Malfoy' stamped across the back. She knows he likes that (likes peeling her out of it too). Of course, at Quidditch matches she waves a Gryffindor banner to even it out.

Just once it had been freezing outside, she'd been wrapped in his scarf and hers and he'd stolen her red and gold without realising (and had recoiled in horror and made her laugh for half an hour when he'd got stuck trying to get it off, 'Bloody Gryffindors' he grumbled as she fell into the snow giggling away).

He throws a snowball at her when he finally tugs it off and she giggles with glee.

'Watching reruns of Glee, bein' annoying, singing in harmony'

He actually visits her over the Christmas of their re-run of 7th year (he insists he'd prefer to be with her, but they do dip in on Narcissa on Christmas Eve who she can tell wants to sneer but is clearly on her best behaviour). He sits awkwardly in her parent's house as they fuss over Hermione (memories restored and very protective of their only daughter) and offer him all kinds of foods he's never heard of.

They end up watching a musical under the watchful eye of her Father, and he looks slightly scared when they begin to sign along to the Sound of Music, dulcet tones, and all.

"Why do they sing?" He had asked when they were in bed together later that night (after he'd snuck in, silencing and concealment charms helped against overprotective parents).

"Because they're happy" She says, simply, because why else would they?

He likes that she realises, and they fall asleep smiling…

(And she swears she hears him humming Edwelweiss around the corridors when they go back).

'I bet she's braggin', to all her friens, sayin' you're so unique'

When she had told first Harry then Ron about her relationship with Draco they'd reacted about as well as expected.

Shock, horror, outrage etc.

Her other friends take it easier. Luna just nods and reminds her of the something she'd said weeks earlier about a dragon and an otter (which makes much more sense now she knows Draco's patronus too), Ginny shrugs, makes her promise to introduce her to Blaise and helps her do her hair for their date.

Of the trio Harry had come round first (and she thinks the fact she had caught him in an entirely compromising position with Pansy Parkinson in the broom closet of all people helps him come to terms with her own Slytherin beau).

Ron takes longer of course, but he's soon head over heels for Susan Bones, nice, kind Susan who will listen to Quidditch, not nag but can hold her own. They are perfect for one another.

"I'll always love you Hermione" He says to her just after they've made up, "But I think you were right"

He refers of course to when she'd broken the news to him of her and Draco, when she'd pointed out to Ron that just because everyone expected the two war heroes to get together doesn't mean they should.

"I often am" She teases and the grin Ron gives her warms her, but it's like with Harry now. Best friends, brother and sister, nothing more.

"Damn right you are" He grins back, and from then on it is so, so much easier with Ron. Friends, best friends, like with Harry, and with the pressure off, without any romantic notions it's 1000 times simpler.

Though of course her own love life isn't always simple (which Harry sympathises with, Pansy after all is nothing if not the opposite of simple).

'So when you gonna tell her that we did that, too? She thinks it's special but it's all reused'

It comes to light that Draco is an eligible bachelor.

It's just after Christmas, Pansy for some reason is sat with them at the Gryffindor table (and honestly she is slightly thankful, the gossip that had followed Harry and Pansy had just about overshadowed her and Draco … just), and the mail swoops in as always.

The Prophet as always is dull nowadays. Stray Death Eaters caught, Diagon Alley flourishing, sweeping new proposals running through the Ministry (that don't go quite far enough, she'll change that when she joins though), but at Pansy's cackle she can see Witch Weekly is more entertaining.

"Look!" Pansy thrills, giggling as she slaps down the copy of Witch Weekly, where five photos blink back at them.

The headline reads: 'The five most eligible bachelors under 20!' with 5 glossy photos and a big advertisement for Sleakezy's off to one side, she touchers own hair self consciously as she looks at the five photos, and smiles when she feels Draco smooth his hand over it – for some reason he loves her hair, she's not sure why, but she loves that he loves it.

In 5th place is Ron, and he even grins to be included, preens at Susan as she ruffles his hair and rolls his eyes and roars with laughter when he see's who beat him.

In 4th is someone she doesn't recognise, but he wears a pearly grin and she thinks his name is Jesse, the article confirms it – Jesse Yaxley, and he graduated year ahead. Yes, she remembers, he'd been Ravenclaw, ignored his Father's pleas to join the war and had hidden out at his muggleborn girlfriends in France. Still Ron calls him a berk (they don't analyse that one too closely).

In 3rd is Blaise Zabini who sits just down from them (honestly the practical merging of the 7th years onto the Gryffindor table, Slytherins included had raised some eyebrows), chatting to Ginny (and Hermione can tell there is something there, especially if her best redheaded girlfriend has something to say about it), and his haunty looks translate well to the cover.

It's 2nd and 1st that have her roar with laughter alongside Pansy, who she still dislikes but gets on with better now … almost, mainly for Harry but also because Pansy has a kind of teasing kind of humour she can appreciate when it isn't directed at her.

There is no 2nd and 1st, but a 'joint tie' – 'Redeemed bad boy Draco Malfoy' and 'War hero Harry Potter' tie the top spot, both glowering at the camera (she recognises Harry's picture from the Ministry and Draco's from his trial). Both glower now as they look at it as well which only increases the laughter.

Of course, Hermione and Pansy mock them both furiously, Pansy ends up giggling as Harry practically drags her out of the Great Hall, and Hermione is cackling as Draco forces her on his firebolt in recompense for mocking him.

Some kisses in the air once more make him feel much, much better.

'That was our place, I found it first, I made the jokes you tell to her when she's with you'

There place quite quickly becomes the library.

The repeating 7th years have their own classes, and so some are small. They end up partners in Runes, Arithmancy and Potions kind of by default, and so they spend a lot of time tucked away in a little nook in the library that few use, off to the side of the Goblin Wars they have a lot of time alone there.

Before they get together, they sat opposite one another, not touching, mostly ignoring.

When they'd agree a truce, 'Friends?' He'd said, and she'd nodded with little fuss, they'd sat next to one another but still didn't touch.

After he'd first kissed her they'd let their elbows touch.

When she'd kissed him next she'd rest her leg against his.

Now they've gone public she often curls up in her chair and has her feet in his lap.

When he's stressed he'll rest his head on her shoulder as she works.

It's their place, it's perfect.

'Do you get déjà vu?'

She never expected them to fall in love. Never thought she'd fall for her childhood bully; never thought she could forgive him let alone like or even love him.

He'd never expected to fall for her, to find himself practicing how to ask her out in the mirror (which had mockingly suggested he ease up on the hair gel … he had, and she'd liked it), to actually kissing her for the first time after Runes, to actually being together and all.

Neither had expected it, and yet it had felt right as soon as it had started.

They eat ice cream, she gets on his broom as long as he promises not to go too fast, he listens to her rant on about SPEW (and god even ends up wearing the badge after a while), they hold hands in the Great Hall, kiss by the Lake and end up somehow on double dates with Harry and Pansy (an odd couple but damn if don't somehow make it work), Blaise and Ginny (who can't keep their hands off one another and glower at anyone who bothers them), and Luna and Theo (not such an odd pairing, Luna is in the clouds, Theo firmly on Earth, a balance), once they even double with Ron and Susan which hadn't been as awkward as they'd thought.

They cuddle in their Head Dorm, they dance at the Yule Ball (she only stands on his toes once), they cheer one another on as they graduate. Her parents love him with his impeccable manners and she somehow wears down his mothers icy exterior.

It somehow works, and as they skip into the world, Hogwarts behind them they do it together.
