Chapter 16 (Stressful Situation)

AN: Hey gang, I got a kinda short chapter for y'all today. Next one will be longer I promise. I got a really cool idea I want to do for the next chapter, and I am really excited to implement it. One last thing before you read would be to give credit to the "bongcheon dong ghost" webcomic for the idea of this chapter. If you guys want to read the comic for yourself just be aware there are jumpscares. Anyway, enjoy.

Rem was in the detention room serving out her punishment for the ordeal she found herself in yesterday.

The classroom was nothing out of the ordinary on the surface level. Though one feature made the room stick out to be a place only the troublemakers were sent to.

It was the lighting. Being the beginning of autumn, the sun was starting to set earlier than it did in the summer. Detention was held after class so the lack of sunlight darkened the room, only adding to its undesirable feeling. The teacher supriving detention refused to turn the classroom lights on as it grew darker, so the students could only sit there and watch as the entire room was consumed with darkness.

The room was also quiet, like really quiet. The only thing that convinced the ears of the students that they were not going deaf was the faint sound of the building's pipes and utilities running the background. On windy days the wind would blow against the window making the room feel even more decrepit and abandoned

What was once a bustling school that was packed to the rim with students turned into an empty school repurposed to be a prison. That is what detention was like to many students.

Rem tried to take her mind off the eerie feeling by completing unfinished class work. When she had no assignment to do. The only thing that was left to do is read out the textbook and study for upcoming tests.

What made detention awkward and uncomfortable for Rem didn't stem from the lighting, the decrepit sounds, or the atmosphere. It was the fact that she was made to sit right next to the girl who tackled her onto the ground.

Apparently whe Rem threw her into the locker, it injured badly enough to the point she had to wear a sling for while. The bandaging was not that bright, but for Rem it shined like the sun.

Instead of feeling the warm and relaxing effect the sun would bring her. She was made to feel a deep bit of regret and sadness. She hated the fact she injured the girl, it was the last thing she ever wanted.

The more Rem looked at her bandages the more tears built up in her eyes as the deep feeling of regret and sorrow grew larger. Rem wished she just laid on the floor and took the girl's beating instead of throwing her into a locker.

Rem felt hundred percent responsible for what happened, and wanted to make things right. The only thing that was left for Rem to do was apologize to the girl for injuring her arm. It would certainly feel better for Rem to get it off her chest.

Though Rem had a problem. She couldn't find the words of what her apology would be made up of. The words only seemed to be wandering around in her head with her thoughts. Grabbing a piece of paper from her binder Rem took a pen and started to write down her apology note.

The note went as follows: Dear Ashley, Rem is sorry for injuring your arm and hopes you feel better soon. I never wanted to injure you, but I still did and I am extremely from the bottom of my heart sorry for my actions. From Rem.

With her note complete Rem folded it up neatly and looked over to the recipatents desk. Ashly looked away from Rem and out the window. Counting down the minute until she was let out.

Leaning over Rem placed her note on the desk and returned back to work, restoring her focus to her studies. Seconds went by and Ashly had yet to notice Rems' apology note. Rem would look over every minute to see the note still there and Ashley's head turned to the window.

Detention was let out and Ashly had yet to notice the note. This changed however when her attention turned to packing up her things and heading home. She noticed the paper folded up on her desk

Ashley picked it up and unfolded the paper to read its writings. Immediately Rems' name stuck out in bold letters. Confusion grew in her face as her eyes scanned the letters. The note she was reading was indeed an apology note for the fight she started.

She didn't know what to say. Rems' note touched her heart with its sincere tone of sympathy. Sure she was still very confused as to why Rem apologized for something Ashley knew on the inside was entirely her fault. Though it still made her slightly realize how rude she had been acting, and how kind and innocent Rem truly was.

As she was let out Ashley left her own apology note on Rems desk as she looked away to pack her things. Before Rem could look up and read it, Ashley had already left the classroom leaving Rem alone to read her note.

Rem stood up from her chair and immediately took notice of the piece of paper that seemed to have magically appeared on her desk. Picking it up and opening it, Rem felt a slight smile come to her face when she read Ashleys apology note.

All Rem wanted to do was make amends for the bitter and odd rivalry between Ashley and herself. It seemed like all it took was a couple marks on a piece of paper to bury the hatchet.

This situation could wait till later though, Rem was tired and wanted to make her way home and rest. Darkness had already ascended in the sky as Rem walked down the sidewalk.

Of course the streets were still illuminated by the street lights and the lit up buildings in the distance. Rem kept walking at a slow pace, being hungry and exhausted from the long hours she spent at school. She made a mental note to pack herself some extra food to eat while in detention going forward.

School life was definitely mentally exhausting. Rem had to work three times as hard as the normal student because she didn't have a good understanding of the subjects they went over. Sure she read out of the textbooks, but those only brought her so far.

But Rem is always able to power through it because she possessed the most powerful piece of motivation, and that was attending alongside Subaru. When the idea was first proposed to her, Rem was skeptical about entering such a big crowd, but she wanted to try out something new for a change.

Being in school with Subaru was ten times more preferable than staying at the apartment all day doing nothing. She also got to help Subaru with his studies, which was another bonus.

When Rem eventually arrived home she walked up to the apartment door. The muffled sounds of Kenichi and Subaru wrestling filled her ears. Not wanting to interrupt she dug around in her bag and pulled out the extra key Subaru provided her yesterday.

They rolled all over the carpet, but the two of them stopped when they saw Rem walk in and close the door behind her.

"Finally we can eat" Kenichi said, as let go of Subaru to make his way to the dinner table. Subarus family generously started holding off on eating dinner until Rem arrived back.

When it came to her detention neither of Subarus parents cared. Kenichi was actually enthusiastic when he first heard of it, hoping Rem brutally beat her opponent and won the fight.

Rem was far less enthusiastic and wasn't proud of the events that transpired. Though she did admit she won the fight trying to get her off, she was still not happy with how she handled it.

The household proceeded to eat dinner. Dinner often consisted of Kenichi clowning Subaru on his mistakes he made in his life. Usually providing him a good laugh as he retold the hilarious memories made over the years.

In Lugnica

"Miss Ram, wake up" Reinhard said calmly and quietly as he shook Ram's shoulder. Ram's eyes bolted open, and was met with an empty table. Ram had slept through the rest of the meeting.

Ram wasn't necessarily required to be at the meeting that really only concerned Reinhard. Ram just chose to be there since she had nothing else to do all day except do boring paperwork. Sure there were other things available, but she wasn't exactly a fan of leisure activities. Ram always wanted to make sure she lived out everyday making herself useful in some way.

Even though being a royal candidate had its fair share of boring experiences. Ram did not complain a single time, and just went along with whatever the council or Reinhard wanted her to do. It wasn't all bad though there were some fun and unique times Ram got to experience.

"Where is everyone?" Ram asked, slightly disoriented as she rubbed her eyes.

"The meeting just ended. I looked over and found you asleep. I think you should head back and go to bed, I just have some last minute buisness to attend to. I shouldn't take long." Reinhard said as he stood up from the table.

Ram complied with Reinhard's suggestion and walked out of the building the meeting took place in. Her destination wasn't too far from where she was; it was only a twenty minute walk.

The streets were empty and not a single person seemed to be walking down the sidewalk. This was definitely out of the ordinary for the bustling capital of Luginica. Ram was out on the empty streets alone by herself and this made her feel a tad little bit uncomfortable.

Being slightly scared and unsettled Ram kept her eyes looking down as she continued her journey home.

A shadow stretching across the sidewalk caught Ram's attention. Although there was no one around her. Ram felt somewhat relieved to know that someone was ahead of her, but that feeling quickly faded as she lifted her head up and looked at the person in front of her.

Her eyes took in the sight of women further down the sidewalk, she looked a bit strange. She looked crippled. Limping and struggling to walk. Dragging her ragged black shoes across the concrete as she took tiny steps forward.

Due to her slow walking pace, Ram caught up with the strange woman and was able to get a close-up look of her.

The woman was wearing dirty pink pajamas and looked like all the joints in her body had been twisted. Her hair was a mess. sticking out everywhere. Her odd walking pace and appearance made Rem feel more unsettled, especially since she was all alone in the dark streets of the capital.

Ram was so weirded out by the women in front of her that she stopped walking completely. Not wanting to get a single step closer to her, nor did she have the guts to pass her.

The woman also suddenly stopped walking and pivoted her body around to look at Ram. The face Ram was met with was so unsettling that she let out a small gasp. Her skin was white like a ghost and her teeth were yellow and jagged, but that wasn't even the worse part.

Her eyes were bloodshot red. They were so bloodshot that Ram couldn't even see her pupils. In fact she couldn't even see her eyes at all. They were so red they reassembled empty eye sockets.

The woman's face struck so much fear and terror in Ram, she completely froze in place with sweat dripping down her forehead, unable to do anything, not even to scream. Opening her mouth the woman proceeded to whisper to Ram a question.

"Where is my baby?"

Her voice was deep and raspy. It could barely even be considered femanine. She sounded exactly like an old man, a very old man on the brink of death. Rams' thoughts were racing to a response to the woman's question. She didn't even know what to say. The women gave her chills as she gulped and continued to sweat.

Rams only response was lifting her arm and pointing in the farthest direction. She just wanted to get away from her.

"O.. Over there" Ram said, telling a lie, her voice shaking.

A creepy but thankful smile came to the womens face as she began limping in the direction Ram pointed to. She crossed the street and walked out of sight, disappearing into the night.

The second the woman was out of Rams' sight. She began to hastily walk away in the opposite direction the women walked to, not wanting to encounter her again. Her primary focus was to enter an area with other people around.

But when Ram walked further down the sidewalk, she heard the women scream out from afar.

"She's not here!"

The scream made Ram freeze dead in her tracks and make the horrible mistake of turning to look behind her. The only thing her eyes could take in was the sight of the woman lunging towards her at a rapid inhuman speed. Being so fast that Ram didn't even have time to react,, before her terrifying face was directly in front of Ram's eyes.

Reinhard was walking home after finishing up some last minute business. Like Ram he was also kind of exhausted. He found himself yawning once or twice during the late meeting, something he tried to hide since yawning during a formal meeting is considered a really rude gesture. Something very out of character with his formal lifestyle.

His sight fell upon Ram, who seemed to have passed out on the sidewalk. It was quite an eerie and creepy sight, especially since there were no people on the street. He looked all around seeing if anybody was around him. His eyes were only met with the thick dark air and nothing more.

Reinhard walked up and looked over the sleeping Ram. Her chest rose and lowered, a clear indicator she was still alive. In fact she looked just fine not a single cut or bruise. It was if she just laid down on the sidewalk and had a casual nap.

He walked over and called out her name. She didn't wake up, instead she continued to lay there unconscious. He picked her up and started to walk back home, his guard was still up as it always was when it came to Rams safety. Besides Rams' odd sleeping spot, nothing seemed to be off, really. Just empty streets and a late night, no sign of an attack of anysort. Reinhard was beginning to think it was a health problem, and was going to have her checked out as soon as possible.

Reinhard walked back home with Ram in his arms, but instead of getting flustered he was actually quite concerned over what happened to her. That was when she suddenly awoke.

Ram regained consciousness feeling herself in someone's arms. She could tell that they were still outside since she could hear the crickets in the distance and felt the small night time breeze on her skin.

Memories of the events that lead up to her unconsciousness washed over her. A major question came into Ram's mind; she didn't know who was carrying her. The last thing Ram remembered was being lunged at by a mysterious ghost woman.

Looking up she was relieved to see Reinhard's face and his white knight's uniform. She didn't remember how she got up to this point, but she didn't care. Ram was glad to be safe from that odd woman.

Reinhard continued to walk completely unaware that Ram had awoken in his arms.

"Sir Reinhard, how did you find me?" Ram asked, making her consciousness known. Reinhard looked down at Ram, relieved to see that she had awoken, and did not seem to be in any danger health wise.

"I found you passed out on the sidewalk on my way back. It definitely concerned me to see you lay there all exposed" Reinhard said.

"You didn't see anyone around me?"

"No, the streets were quite empty. It really added to the erieeness of seeing your unconscious body lay on the ground. If you don't mind me asking, do you feel alright? What happened on your way home?" Reinhard asked curiously.

Ram hesitated for a minute unsure if she wanted to tell Reinhard about her encounter with the women. She wasn't sure he would believe her, but she knew he would always take her seriously especially under circumstances like these.

"I… Encountered a woman looking for her baby…. Her body was all twisted, it was a very odd encounter. She asked me in a weird voice where her baby was, and I just responded by pointing in a far away direction to get away from her"

"How did that lead to you passing out on the ground?"

"Well when I walked away quite hastily the woman screamed that her baby wasn't there. I turn around and I see her lunge at me so quickly I didn't have time to react. Next thing I remember was waking up with you, that's where the story ends ..."

"Tell me more about this woman you speak of. What did she look like?"

"Like a monster. She had white skin, yellow jagged teeth, and her most horrifying feature being her bloodshot eyes that made her look like she had empty eye sockets"

"Did she come out as a member of the witches cult?"

"Oddly no … She was just looking for her baby. Making no mention of any witch … "
