A/N: First of all, I just want to thank everyone for their reviews. Now coming to my specific question regarding nuclear explosions, you all were super helpful and I realized of course that even if the blast radius is bigger the initial amount of energy concentrated in a small area should still be bigger. Nixramor mentioned the 'types' of damage that nukes can do, and this is how I intend to incorporate them:
The blast itself can be seen as a Fire type area of effect damage spell. The thermal radiation in terms of waves can also be seen as a form of Fire damage I guess. The lingering radiation damage can be seen as an area of effect poison which I believe the undead would completely resist.
Supertrucking also mentions that the UV light itself can deal damage- which I will consider to be Light/Holy type elemental damage (I don't know if Light was an element type in Yggdrasil or if it was separate from Holy). The shockwave can be considered to be bludgeoning damage, quite good against undead. Again, the heat is Fire type damage, and I will disregard the radiation effect as a kind of poison. So three out of the four are actually good against undead.
Now, going to the spell Nuclear Blast it seems to resemble a micronuke, technology with have today. How much more powerful a bigger and better nuke is is rather debatable, but even if we assume a large nuclear weapon can reach the level of Fallen Down in terms of damage, it still wouldn't one-shot a powerful Player, especially if they can take measures against it.
Also, Zennishi made an excellent point that using powerful nukes will destroy your own country first, so many countries won't go down that route.
ideal man asked about antimatter bombs, but as I understand they are more powerful than nukes but won't leave the radiation that nukes do and using too powerful a weapon will hurt your own people. So antimatter bombs might exist in this world, but as you can imagine they see little use.
So yeah, thank you all for your description of nuclear weapons.
"So, how is this working?" Suzuki asked.
"Yeah, I can see you," Hayato replied.
For the time being, all of them had decided to wait before acting and see how things played out. With that said, they could all agree that it was a good idea to figure out how Suzuki's powers worked in this place.
Suzuki was using the spell Perfect Unknowable to hide himself while Hayato had whipped out his phone to use it's camera function. It was a simple test- could Suzuki's magic fool a camera?
Turns out that the answer was 'no.'
While Suzuki was absolutely invisible to all of them, Hayato could see him on his smartphone. The spell could not fool the camera, probably much like it could not fool the eyes of the undead.
"Hmm, I need to be careful around cameras then," Suzuki said, ending the spell. "We could still be caught on film."
"Well, I'm not getting a signal under here," Hayato said. "I don't know whether or not that's because we're so deep underground, or because of something the Tomb is doing."
"Hmm," Hachiman said. "What about disposable items? Can we make more potions?"
Tabito's interest was spiked. "Urgh, we don't have access to crystals or regents do we? Maybe we could go ahead and see if modern day chemicals would work..."
"Do you think that CZ can work with computers?" Tukuta asked. "She is an automaton right, or a kind of robot? Could she like... I dunno, hook herself up to the Internet or a machine and hack it or something?"
"There was a class in Yggdrasil that could maybe do that right?" Hachiman mused. "I think it was called 'Technomancer' but none of us ever bothered to get it."
Technomancer was a class released after the Valkyrie's Downfall Patch that could manipulate machines, much like how a necromancer could manipulate undead. Perhaps if someone specced into that class, then they could use it to control things such as a smartphone, or a computer server. One could only imagine how overpowered such an ability would be in this world.
Also, if one were to encounter a truly sentient Artificial Intelligence, would spells such as Dominate and Charm work on them, or would such an AI be immune to mind control much as undead were? Rumors existed that the Americans had come close to creating such an AI at one point, but that was merely scoffed at as a conspiracy by many people.
Let alone that, what if there were aliens in some corner of the galaxy somewhere? Would they be able to handle races which did not even exist in Yggdrasil?
"By the way, Suzuki, could I talk to you for a second?" Hayato asked. "In private, I mean."
"Sure," Suzuki said.
"Wait, wait, let's try reviving some of those scientists first," Hachiman said. "They must know something about what's happening, right? Let me get one of their corpses."
Hayato and Hachiman bickered some more, but eventually Hayato relented and the bodies were brought in.
Once again, Suzuki raised his Shooting Star Ring and invoked its power.
This time though, the sigil surrounding him shattered like glass.
"It failed," Suzuki said. He was rather unsure of why- if it could've brought back Tukuta then it should've been able to resurrect these two people.
Meanwhile, in another world...
Dr. Jiro woke up, unsure of where he was. The first thing he noticed was that he was completely naked- along with the other people with him.
This would've normally disturbed him, but there was a bigger problem at hand. Namely, the countless eyes looking at them.
"G-Goblins!" one of them shouted. They had never seen those creatures aside from a computer screen, but there was no doubting what they were seeing.
There were hundreds of them. Hundreds of goblins all glaring at them eagerly, clearly anticipating their next meal.
How unfortunate for all of them that they had been reincarnated as level one humans in the New World.
"So what is that you wanted to ask about?" Suzuki asked Hayato as the two of them went to a side room.
"There... there's something weird that happened, and now that I think about it I'm sure it has something to do with... whatever is going around," Hayato said. "Yesterday, I ran into a girl who looked like a girl, I guess, but the thing is she turned into a grown woman and was talking about things that well, didn't make sense. She could use magic and claimed to come from some weird country I'd never heard of. Was there a place called the Draconic Kingdom in Yggdrasil?"
"I don't believe so," Suzuki said. "But we never really explored too much of the world did we? So we'll only know about a small fraction of it. I guess it is possible that we forgot something."
"Right," Hayato said. "I mean to say though, I think I should bring her back to the Tomb just in case. We can even ask her what she knows."
"Good idea," Suzuki said.
"I'd just like to keep it from Hachiman though- I don't want him to do something weird," Hayato said.
Suzuki didn't really follow this train of logic, but agreed for the time being. "Alright then."
He then thought of something. "Hayato, do you still want to go to the authorities?"
"I'm not so sure right now," Hayato admitted.
The truth of the matter was that Hayato was not really scared of the authorities. He was pretty sure from what he had seen that he could easily overthrow them.
And that was what terrified him. Namely, what he would become once he accepted that.
Already, thoughts of ordering some of the NPCs to go and take his daughter from his soon-to-be ex-wife and place her in his care, law be damned. A nasty part of him wanted to make sure that she would never get to see their daughter ever again as retribution for what she had done.
Men like him couldn't be trusted with power, clearly. The ideal hero by the name of Touch Me was a work of fiction and could only exist in a virtual game. And he certainly didn't think that someone like Hachiman was in any way better- that guy was probably going to cause even more harm than he would.
Could Suzuki be trusted with that kind of power? Hayato honestly didn't know- he didn't think that anyone could be trusted with that kind of power. If Suzuki had been left alone, would he create a just and peaceful world? Or would he also be swept up under the sway of power?
Perhaps if they gathered all of the guild members together and formed a council to vote on matters- but really, who were they to decide the fate of the world? It seemed as if they would just end up replacing the existing group of tyrants with another set of them.
"Before you go ahead and do anything like that," Suzuki said, snapping Hayato out of his train of thought. "Why not spend some time with Sebas Tian? A few of us have interacted with our creations and it's... changed things. I'm sure Sebas would enjoy it."
"Sebas..." Hayato said and trailed off. The NPC he had created to embody justice- an ideal he could never hope to reach himself. What would that NPC think of him when he found out the truth? "Yeah, I'll try to talk to him." Hayato said that just to placate Suzuki.
"Great!" Suzuki said.
The Platinum Dragon Lord was considering his next move when he was interrupted by someone walking in.
"I'm sorry to disturb you," the man said. "But our president wants to talk."
Platinum Dragon Lord turned his head slowly to the man. "The one I met before- or the real president?"
The man opened and closed his mouth. "I-I-" he stammered, unsure of a response when someone walked in behind him.
Platinum Dragon Lord thought that he could safely assume that this man was higher ranking that the other, though he could not really tell. His draconic instinct was rather adept at identifying treasures and the like, but the medals and ornaments these people wore to distinguish themselves were not made of precious metals.
"We apologize, but we considered it necessary for the matter of our nation's security," he said. "However, the President really would like to meet with you. There is an ah, incident which we would appreciate your aid in. In exchange, we will try our best to return to your world, or to find such a way back there."
The man knew they had little chance of ever actually accomplishing this, but dangling that carrot in front of this person might've encouraged him. Plus, he was technically not lying given that they would be trying- just that they didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of ever succeeding.
"In such a case, I will send my representative," Platinum Dragon Lord said, swishing his tail to indicate his suit of armor.
Given that this was a meeting with another head of state, it would be appropriate for him to go himself. However, these people had lied to him once- and as it stood, he knew that in most human societies the harder it was to reach the king, the greater the reputation of such a person. He himself had no such notions, but he knew it was necessary to keep up appearances.
Not to mention there was little that he could not do while within that suit.
"I see," the man said. "I understand then."
"Madame President," a man said and introduced Riku Aganeia to the President.
Riku had been introduced to a slew of people over the past four hours, and he great struggled to remember their names and ranks. These people did not have any hierarchical system that he was used to and memorizing so many bureaucrats and military ranks greatly strained him.
The woman who was their leader looked to be in her fifties, and she greeted him with a handshake. Understandably, he had told everyone that he could not take off his armor.
"The United States extends a pleasant greeting to you and to your country," she said. "Please do allow me to offer my sincerest apologies for misleading you earlier-"
Riku held up a hand. "It is as leaves in the wind. I can understand why you did so." He was just really hoping that these people would get to the meat of the matter soon.
"Thank you for your kind words," she answered.
Riku did not know this, but while being led here he had been passed through a CT scanning machine. His anti-divination abilities did nothing to stop this machine's effects, but all the people working it saw was an empty suit of armor and assumed there was something wrong with the machine.
The possibility of this suit of armor being a drone had as of yet not entered the minds of the Americans.
"We are dealing with a difficult situation," she said. "Or to be more clear, another country is dealing with a situation, and we fear that it might spill over to our borders eventually. There are massive numbers of zombies which suddenly appeared in a country by the name of Russia."
Riku gave no indication after she said this.
The President had clearly been expecting some sort of reaction from him though, he realized, he just had no idea as to what it was and so could not give it.
"Well, we have these images of what we believe is causing this," she said and a holographic image projected itself onto the air.
If Riku had eyes, they might've popped out of his skull. He recognized what he was looking at- the Elder Coffin Dragon Lord.
"This thing has massively damaged Russia," she said. "Their military was somewhat able to contain the zombies, but they weren't able to kill this thing. As such, Russia is virtually on the brink of collapse and the zombies are reaching such far-flung places such as Korea. They've asked for our aid, but given that they've thrown nukes at this thing, I don't know what further we can do. Is this thing somewhat related to you?"
Riku was not sure how to respond.
On the one hand, he was shocked to know that a fellow Dragon Lord had been transported to this place. What did that mean for him?
Were there others like him? Were the Deep Darkness Dragon Lord, Brightness Dragon Lord and others such as the Heavenly Dragon Lord also here in this world?
And what where they going on about saying that they couldn't stop him? While Riku was unsure whether or not he could take on the Elder Coffin Dragon Lord, if they had access to even three or four Player characters who were max levelled and one or two World Items, they should've found dealing with him to be easy.
Or was it that they could deal with Elder Coffin Dragon Lord, and were simply baiting him to see if he was involved with their enemy?
"I... do know this creature," Riku admitted. "We fought against each other once several hundred years ago, but reached a stalemate."
"Can you get him to stop?" the President asked.
"Regarding that, I believe that he is stronger than me," Riku said. "And anything else my country can throw at him. Negotiations... might be difficult." He had not ended on good terms with this particular Dragon Lord. "But I can attempt to do so..."
The Elder Coffin Dragon Lord turned his gaze towards the sky.
No longer were those strange projectiles being launched at him, but he knew that he could not rest on his laurels. Those weapons had the potential of damaging him, and if they could damage him, there might be enough to potentially kill him.
That left him with but one choice- he had to kill those who controlled them before they could kill him.
He had advanced towards a large human city to see that it had already been swamped by undead kudos to his activities, meaning there was no one around for him to interrogate.
He should have endeavored to capture some of them alive, it seemed.
Something did fly out of the sky- something he had seen many years ago.
"You again!" he cried out. "Child of the Dragon Emperor, are you responsible for bringing me to this place?"
"No," Tsaindorcus answered. He was in his full dragon form, but that was still tiny compared to the massive armor of zombies that Elder Coffin Dragon Lord had made for himself. "I too have been brought to this strange realm through no fault of my own. I even thought that you might be responsible."
"The only one who could pull of such trickery was your father," the Elder Coffin Dragon Lord spat back. "So what of it? What do you wish to say? Or are you here simply to reminisce about old times?"
"No," Tsaindorcus said. He was perched onto the side of a building, eyeing the mass of corpses below him. The zombies, detecting his nature as one of the living, all clamored to get him though obviously couldn't. As it was they were no threat to him. "I have come on behalf of another nation. You are destroying this country, and you have killed a large mass of its people and transformed them into undead."
"What of it? What do the lives of insects such as humans matter?"
"You are aware that those... what do you call them? Ah yes, desecrators live on in this world?" Tsaindorcus said. "As it is, it is possible that we've been transported to their own realm and there are thousands of them waiting to strike us."
Elder Coffin Dragon Lord laughed. "Surely you must jest? If there really were any that were so powerful I would've been destroyed already. I have ravaged this large portion of land and have encountered nothing on the same level as us... save for a few weapons that the rulers of this country can't possibly continue to bombard me with without damaging their own land. This world has nothing capable of stopping us, and if those aberrations do appear..." He paused for a second. "Why not commit to an alliance, you and I? You refused all those centuries ago, but if we are attacked by entities like those Eight again we will need to come together."
"I do not approve of you slaughtering an entire nation," Platinum Dragon Lord said.
Elder Coffin Dragon Lord laughed again. "Their lives are worthless... we must protect ourselves from those above all, and I have had so many souls- yes! So many! So will you join me, or will you retreat to your own nation again?"
"Will you not stop moving in this country?" Platinum Dragon Lord asked. "You have achieved what you wanted already."
"If you are no jester, you are certainly a fool," Elder Coffin Dragon Lord said. "I have already harmed them. They have more of those weapons which burn so badly... they will not stop until either of us is destroyed. Even if not, I have no desire of diplomatizing with maggots. And I might need even more souls very soon."
The Platinum Dragon Lord could tell that he would get no further. "It seems we must agree to disagree then." He then flapped his wings and flew off.
Platinum Dragon Lord pondered his next options. It was a possibility that the other Dragon Counselors were still around, but he had heard no words from them yet. It appeared that only True Dragon Lords had been brought to this new world...
There were certain things he could still do however. It was possible for him to volunteer to eliminate the invading zombies in other countries, though he could not take out the problem at its source. But given that Elder Coffin Dragon Lord was bent on destroying this kingdom named Russia... it was better for him to stay neutral for now and to search for any potential allies.
Suzuki returned to his group of friends where Hachiman waved to him. "Hey Suzuki- I wanted to ask you this, did you consider bringing back your parents."
Suzuki stopped in his tracks. "My... parents?"
"Yeah, I mean it might be possible with that Ring you're holding," he said. "It was something I just thought about."
Suzuki had not thought of his parents in a very long time. He had gotten over their deaths and just accepted it as a fact of life, and his undead nature worked further to suppress any feelings that he would have had towards her.
But at the mention of her name, memories began to flood through his mind. Of how hard she had worked in her last few days, the helplessness of watching her fall ill and collapse in the kitchen of their home. His father had turned to alcohol soon thereafter and passed away due to liver failure, but given the man had never truly shown any affection to Suzuki he did not feel the same despair when thinking of that.
There was a chance he could change that right here and now, using the ring on his hand.
His emotions were promptly halted by his emotional suppressor, bringing him back to the present day. Even if he did bring her back- what would he say to her? It had been so many years that she had been dead, and what would she think of Suzuki now that he was like this? A giant, hideous monstrous skeleton in charge of a nest of demons.
Perhaps he would do so one day- but not now. Not before he had time to analyze the situation.
"I think I'll wait on that," Suzuki said. "Explaining what's going on is going to be hard, as you can understand. I think I want to get a better grasp of our current situation first."
"Got it," Tukuta said. "Makes sense."
"I do think I know where we should go next though," Hachiman said. "Or what we should do next. We should go ahead and find the other Guild Members, ASAP. I say we go to the Yggdrasil Servers themselves and find out who those people were in real life. Heck, I think I could even find a few hackers willing to do so for some money... or under the influence of a Dominate spell, y'know? Only thing is the Internet is down, and so I think we're going to have to get right to the source."
"How do we get into the servers though?" Hiroshi asked. "I mean, we talked about maybe CZ being able to hook herself up to one of them, but what if she can't?"
"We don't need to hack them," Hachiman said. "We just need people who can hack them. A few spells and we'll have them under our control."
"Again with the illegal activities," Hayato said. "Does anyone else here also feel like what this dude's proposing is insane? We are quite literally villains mind-controlling people at this point."
"Hey, it's for a good cause," Hachiman said. "And I for a fact know that there are absolutely no laws against using magic to mind control people, so what we're doing isn't illegal."
"There are no laws because mind control didn't exist!"
Hachiman shrugged. "Isn't that how the MegaCorps get around doing things that are technically illegal anyway? Make some new technology that isn't regulated?"
"Do you even know where these things are stored?" Tukuta asked. "I don't think they'd be in the same building, and aren't the Kenpeitai all over the servers anyway right now because of what you did?"
Hachiman frowned. "Alright... there are a few gaps in my plan. But I say that we can still try something- or something else maybe... perhaps... ugh, I can't even look up things on the Internet right now."
"Well," Hiroshi said. "We can't look up things on the Internet here. But what about other countries? We have access to teleportation magic, so there must be a nation with unrestricted access to the Internet right now?"
"Hmm... I can't read any of this," Hiroshi muttered to himself.
He and Hachiman were in a Cyber Cafe in South Africa, or the region known as that in our current day time. This country had not experienced the mass panic as otehr regions, even though the Heavenly Dragon Lord was floating around unbeknownst to them a few hundred klicks from their capital. The Internet thankfully, was working here.
"No worries," Suzuki said to them. He was using Perfect Unknowable on himself. It wouldn't fool the cameras, but a small shop like this did not have a dedicated security team and they would only be able to see him if they rewound the footage. Which he doubted they would. Even if they did, they would have little luck explaining how the specter of death was seemingly caught on film and would most likely be accused of Photoshopping it.
Suzuki pulled out a pair of glasses and put them on. "Okay... I can read them now."
"That is so cool," Hiroshi said.
Suzuki then moved his fingers across the outdated keyboard- which was different from what he was used to so it took him several minutes to type in even a very simple search.
"Oh, so that's where the data is," Hiroshi said. "Seems like they would be in the process of deleting it though..."
"Nothing's ever really gone from the Internet," Hachiman said. "Even if they deleted it records would be there somewhere. We'll only know if we travel there in person."
"I guess we know where to go next then," Hiroshi said.
Sushanto's eyes were glazed a bit as he looked at the clock. "Well, time to clock out."
He then paused as he turned to Nobita and Yashimoto. "Wait... where's that guy? Was his name hillbilly or something?"
"Hachiman," Yashimoto corrected. "You're right, he should've been back hours ago."
Sushanto called his number but the phone couldn't connect. "Eh, whatever. Let's report him to the higher-ups and get out of here."
Nobita got up and took his stuff in a single swipe. The way he walked you would've thought that he'd spent the whole day working hard.
The three of them were ready to pack up when they saw that one of the higher-ups had already walked in. "Where is Hachiman?" one of them barked.
Sushanto's lackadaisical attitude vanished instantly- he was experienced enough to realize when he needed to pay attention. That's how he had survived after coasting along for so long.
"He left and hasn't returned, we can't even contact him or reach him by phone," Sushanto explained.
The man had an indiscernible expression on his face. "Alright. If he ever calls you back, inform us. Dismissed!"
The three gave extremely sloppy salutes and walked on, happy to be relieved of their duty.
The man from the Kenpeitai looked at the address where Hachiman was last sent and frowned. He ordered two units to mobilize- one towards this new address, and one towards Hachiman's house. In addition, he had calls placed to Hachiman's ex-wife to see if they had been in contact recently.
Draudillon was chilling on the sofa when someone walked in.
As in, they simply walked in and hadn't even bothered knocking on the door, making her wonder as to how they had gotten here in the first place.
Of course- she realized. Teleportation magic.
An old man walked out dressed up in a butler's uniform- and next to him was Hayato.
The two of them had a striking resemblance to each other, which made her think that they might even be brothers.
"Sebas, this is the girl I was talking about," Hayato said. "Come, on, we have to go."
"Where?"
"I'll tell you once we're there," Hayato said. "We can't keep staying here."
Draudillon noticed that the butler, who was called Sebas apparently, had a far kinder expression on himself than Hayato.
Given she had little choice in the matter, she followed them through the strange magical portal.
The Kenpeitai had not had much success with what they were doing.
For one, they found Hayato's house to be empty. It looked like someone had been living there, but all the video footage in the house had been wiped out meaning that whoever had left probably did not intend to return.
On the other hand, they found absolutely nothing in Suzuki's apartment. It was completely barren of anything- even furniture, and likewise, they found that the security footage for the entire apartment seemed to have been wiped away by someone.
Unknown to them, Nigredo was monitoring the apartment from afar, from her own room. Now that Tabito had woken up, there was no need to keep monitoring her and she could return to Nazarick. While Albedo was complaining about filthy humans disturbing the sanctity of Suzuki's apartment, Suzuki had little care for the place anymore and just ordered that it be watched from Nazarick.
A/N: Okay so that's the end guys! Thanks for reading- for those who don't know I've started another project called 'The Rising of Ainz Ooal Gown' which is a crossover with the Rising of the Shield Hero. So I'm on three projects right now.
The ending of this fanfic is coming near, and I've realized it depends on how much more in detail I want to go to for the rest of the fanfic. I mean, I think even in the longest case scenario we might have between 5-10 chapters depending on how long each one is.
Also, I'm sorry if there are errors that crept into this chapter. I did put it through an editor but something wacky happened with the formatting and it reverted back to what it was so... yeah.
