Snowhere to Go: Chapter Sixteen

I realized I was being completely irrational, but I didn't wish to leave this cave, get out from under these furs, or go one second without Obi-Wan's touch. However, I'd heard a sound and craned my neck to look toward the entrance of the cave.

"You're correct," he whispered. "We have company."

"Anakin?" I asked.

Obi-Wan suckled my neck which sent a chill down one side of my body that had nothing to do with the cold. "Mmm, hmmm," he answered close to my ear. "And he's not alone."

"Do you think he saw us?" I couldn't help but blush. I was far more modest than most people believed.

"It's possible," Obi-Wan answered nonchalantly, "but that's ok," he added quickly. "This way, we won't have to figure out how to tell him about us.

Us. I rolled the word around in my mind. I liked it. A lot!

"Maybe we should get dressed and go meet him and whoever is with him."

Obi-Wan smiled down at me and moved a stray strand of hair behind my ear. "Allow me. I have no bodily issues and won't perish at the thought of someone seeing me naked."

I pinched his rear for being so sarcastic.

"Ouch! Stay here."

I enjoyed the view of him rising from our makeshift bed to dress. He had very little to be embarrassed about. But what man did care about being seen undressed? I know my father made it a habit to walk around the house in nothing but his underclothes, which drove my mother crazy. I, on the other hand, would wait until the coast was clear to come out from under these blankets.

After Obi-Wan had disappeared, I could hear the rumble of voices, and immediately recognized one of them. That crazy girl! Dorme was the one who had joined Anakin in the search. I could see her approach in the firelight and sighed with relief.

"Help me get dressed," I asked her, watching her closely. And there it was. A knowing smile spreading across her face. "Okay, what did you see?"

"Enough! It's a miracle! It took a natural disaster to make it happen, but it happened! I'm so happy for you!"

She was gushing and expressing feelings I couldn't put words to, although I felt exactly the same. I was happy – more than I had ever been.

Obi-Wan and Anakin joined us after I had dressed in my semi-dry clothing and the young man hugged me exuberantly before putting his arm around Dormé's shoulders.

"You two?" I noted in surprise. I had a feeling they were enjoying one another's company, but I didn't think they were a couple. Not yet.

"So what do you say about the four of us getting the hell out of here," Obi-Wan suggested.

"Sounds like a great idea," I replied.

"Unless you have more of those furs somewhere," Anakin chimed in, resulting in a swift elbow to his ribs. "I was just joking!" he told Dormé. "Geez!"

As we made our way through the cave, I played with the idea of perhaps the four of us going on double dates, but the more Anakin and Dormé argued, the less inclined I was to do such a thing.

"I agree," Obi-Wan leaned over to whisper in my ear. "Hanging out with those two wouldn't be such a good idea."

Amazed, I stopped and stared at him. "What? Are you reading my mind now? Did making love create some sort of bond between us?"

"Huh? No. Oh, no. Lucky guess. Besides, this is the wrong story for that sort of stuff," he answered with a grin.

I returned his smile and grabbed his hand. We both headed toward the exit and a future as bright as the new day.

A/N: This story worked out some of the rust on my writing skills. It's been a while! Onto "Shift."
