Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi

Possibilities: Il Carro

"Well, well, well," a gravelly voice spoke out of the shadows, seeming to come from nowhere and everywhere at the same time. "If it isn't the lost Tohsaka heiress…yes, I know. Your family isn't nearly as discreet as you all like to pretend."

"If you're going to talk to yourself, why don't you go and do it someplace else?" Sakura Edelfelt-Tohsaka dryly asked while scraping one boot against a nearby ledge. "Like say…oh, I don't know, a mental health hospital?"

Dry and mocking laughter echoed from all around, along with the chittering sound of chitinous shells rubbing against each other, and of countless insectile legs against the ground. Lights glimmered in the shadows, of moonlight, starlight, and lamplight reflecting against compound eyes, or refracted by passing through thick and clinging slime.

Sakura sighed and palmed a pair of obsidian shards. "Alright then," she said. "Let's do this: Isku!"

Then she clapped her hands together, volcanic glass shattering against each other between Sakura's palms…

…and a wave of glowing blue light blasted outward. Windows shattered. Both the ground and the walls of the surrounding buildings trembled. Trees and other plant life nearby were buffeted by the violently-displaced air caused by Sakura's spells.

Only mush was left of the swarms of Matou familiars, and even Zouken Matou stumbled away from where he'd been hiding, left in a daze by the force of Edelfelt's power. "What…how…?" he stammered out.

Then he blinked as bright blue light flickered nearby…

…and his eyes went wide, as Sakura was right in front of him.

"GURRRGH!" he grunted in pain, as Sakura delivered a solid kick to his chin, outright shattering his jaw and breaking his neck. If he were still Human, it'd have killed him outright, but as it was, it was only a hindrance, even if it did send him flying several meters up into the air.

Then there was another flicker of blue light…

…and with a wordless cry, Sakura was above him, bringing a leg down in a falling roundhouse kick that connected with his torso with overwhelming force.

This time, Zouken couldn't even make a sound, as the Edelfelt's kick pulverized his innards and sent him flying back down with enough force to again displace the surrounding air. The impact with the ground left black ichor splattered around the surrounding road, Zouken weakly struggling to draw breath into his ruined body…

…and then with another wordless cry, Sakura came down with a solid drop kick, blue light shimmering around her body. The impact completely obliterated the surrounding road, which collapsed downward with great clouds of pulverized concrete. This left Sakura on one knee amidst piles of rubble, against the concrete casement of the sewer line under the road.

"Who did he think I was?" she muttered, before her eyes went wide, instinctively sensing a presence behind her.

Then Assassin was falling back, literally bending back in a curve to avoid a glowing arrow that would have taken his head clean off otherwise. His attempt to use his Noble Phantasm on his Master's enemy failed, he attempted to retreat, but then arrows began falling from the sky, thousands of them in a matter of seconds. He dodged them all, but many came far too close, cutting into his sides and limbs and leaving him with all manner of lacerations before he could finally revert to astral form.

"…nice work, Archer." Sakura telepathically pulsed, as she stood amidst the ruined battlefield.

"I am honored by your praise." Archer replied in kind. "But it seems I have fallen out of practice. There was a time when I could have taken such a lowly cur with a single shot. Please accept my apologies."

"That won't be necessary." Sakura graciously added. "A hundred battles don't have to mean a hundred victories. Not that we actually lost this battle, of course."

"I see your point, Lady Sakura." Archer said.

Sakura nodded, and then narrowing her eyes at the sound of approaching police sirens and fire engines, took the rooftops to make her getaway. And in the distance, standing atop a high rise in the cold winter breeze under the Moon, Archer kept watch, his mighty bow held relaxed but ready.

All in all, not a bad start for Edelfelt's second attempt to claim the Grail.

"You know deep down that you cannot even fight against me." Sakura softly and grandly said, slowly sliding velvet-gloved hands against each other. And then moving slowly, enjoying the moment of theater, she extended one hand towards her sister. "But it does not have to come to that. You can instead join me, and we can share the spoils of victory together."

Rin Tohsaka's eyes twitched, in fact, her whole body was shaking with…she didn't really know what, to be honest. The sister of hers that had been kidnapped as a baby, the one she'd never even have a chance to know as more than just a name had returned, albeit dressed in Edelfelt colors…

Well, that certainly answered that question.

…and expected her to just…what? Hesitate to do as her duty as the Fifth Head of Tohsaka? To renege on her expectations and obligations as a magus? To just drop everything and join the family which had apparently kidnapped and brainwashed her sister for well over a decade?

"You've got to be joking." Rin began…

…and actually stumbled as Sakura dropped the façade, her expression, bearing, and even tone of voice just turning casual in the next instant.

"Actually, I am." Sakura said, waving one hand in the air while the other was planted against a hip. "Well, not completely, of course…I'd be disappointed if you didn't put up a fight and prove yourself both as a magus, and, well, yourself. You're my sister, after all. While you don't have an 'Edelfelt' in your name – at least, not yet – just like me, at least a quarter of your blood belongs to the most elegant hyenas in the world. That said, I'd very happy if you'd join me, whether in this war or after it, and the rest of the family too."

Rin stared.

Sakura stared back.

Rin kept on staring.

Sakura kept on staring back.

"Is there a problem?" Sakura asked.

"Lady Sakura, we found this creep snooping around." Elisa Rodriguez began, and dragging a violet-haired young man with her. "What do you want us to do with him?"

Sakura's reply was preempted by a noise of recognition from Rin. "Hey, that's Shinji." She began. "Shinji Matou…um…"

"You know him?" Sakura asked.

"Yes, well," Rin struggled with the words, before giving a cough and rubbing the back of her head, continuing with a resigned air and tone. "He's my fiancée."

There was a moment of profound silence. And then Sakura burst out laughing, all but literally crying from amusement, one hand clutching at her stomach, and repeatedly clapping Rin on the back.

"Oh that was good…" she said, wiping a tear from an eye. "Seriously, though…"

"I wasn't joking." Rin interrupted grumpily.

There was another moment of silence. And then…

"You're joking!" Sakura exploded.

"You really think I'd be joking about something as serious as this?" Rin snapped.

"You cannot be serious!" Sakura exclaimed, looking and sounding utterly horrified. "Just feel him! He does not even have an ounce of magical ability! You'll be sabotaging your children's futures before they're even born! I could understand a…youthful romance, maybe even a long-lasting extramarital relationship, but marriage? Rin, you have an obligation to do better!"

"Well, it's not like I have much of a choice." Rin huffed, looking away with pink cheeks and crossed arms.

Sakura opened her mouth…

…and then closed it, looking at Shinji unhappily as he burst out in protest.

"Hey, who do you think you're talking shit about?" he shouted – well, more whined – at her. "Don't you know who I am? I'm Shinji Matou, heir to and greatest magus of the Matou family of magi! My family helped build the Grail, and founded the Holy Grail Wars! We certainly have our own magic, unlike your family, who just stole everything to become what you are today! Why, if my grandfather were here right now, he'd put in your place, you stuck-up little bitch! So why don't you…"

"Why are you hitting yourself?" Sakura asked lightly.

"URG!" Shinji gurgled as his arm moved on his own, and punched him in the face. Then it punched him again…and again…and again…

"Sakura!" Rin protested, though admittedly she did feel more than a bit of guilty pleasure at the sight.

"Come on, Rin!" Sakura said with a disgusted look on her face, while watching Shinji punch his face in. "You can do better than this guy! I didn't even have to use an aria to put him under my spell! Let's see…oh, I know! Cousin Armas from Paris…his mother is French, you know? They have an apartment on the Champs-Elysees, and a country villa in Normandy. The parties they have on Christmas season…you could so much worse than Cousin Armas. Did I mention he's a talented painter?"

"SAKURA!"

Finn rounds blazed away like bullets from a machine gun, only to splatter harmlessly against Illyasviel von Einzbern's shields. "Is that the best you can do, Edelfelt?" she mocked, before sending a blast of light Sakura's way.

"You wish!" Sakura shouted, only to give a cry of alarm as she narrowly avoided a second blast of light.

Illya giggled, even as she loosed a third blast of light, then a fourth, and a fifth. "This is fun!" she gushed, and unloaded five beams at the same time, leaving molten gashes on the concrete of the ground.

"ENOUGH!" Sakura shouted. "ISKU!"

Sakura's counterattack buffeted Illya's shields, who only smiled wider. "Not bad," she admitted. "Now it's my turn."

Sakura blanched as she saw the little homunculus' body light up with so many magic circuits. "Oh, not good." She muttered while diving for cover.

In the next instant, the surrounding building was leveled, and left Sakura howling in agony as she found herself trapped with a broken leg under broken rebar.

"You lose, Edelfelt!" Illya taunted, before turning to where her Servant was fighting Sakura's. "Berserker! Stop playing with your food and kill that pathetic Servant already!"

Berserker answered with a loud roar, already incensed at having lost not one or even two lives against Archer, but three. And all those to a single shot from Archer's bow blowing his head clean off.

"Sakura!" Rin shouted as she finally arrived, Caster already diving into action with his twin blades. Illya gave them a look of disdain, and with a sharp gesture, blew them both back, even Caster's twin blades reduced to glittering shards by her power.

"Wait for your turn." Illya spat with seething malice. "Berserker, hurry up and kill that useless Archer! Caster is here, and with Tohsaka too!"

Berserker roared in reply, arrows sparking harmlessly against his skin, and with another roar, closed the distance, bringing his axe down on Archer. The white-clad Servant narrowly avoided the blow, struggling to reopen the distance, but Berserker was on him now, so it was only a matter of time.

"What power!" Rin gasped even as Caster helped her up to her feet. "How do we even beat that monster?"

"You can't!" Illya shouted. "I told you before, didn't I? My Servant is the greatest hero of Greece! An unstoppable and unkillable first class hero compared to all your second-rate Servants! You might as well give up and beg for your lives…who know, I might actually spare them."

"Illya, stop!" a young man's voice shouted, and actually brought Illya pause. This gave Rin the chance to dash to her sister, while Caster joined Saber to help Archer against Berserker.

"Onii-chan…" Illya growled as she faced off with Shirou Emiya. "I warned you if you challenged me again, I'd kill you. Do you really want to die?"

"And do you really want to kill me?" Shirou shouted back. "You don't, do you? You don't even want to fight, so why?"

"Shut up!" Illya shouted back in her turn. "You don't know anything about me! Nothing at all! So don't talk like you do!"

"Illya!"

Further words were silenced by a massive explosion, as Berserker tore up his surroundings and sent both Caster and Saber flying. "Damn it all," Rin cursed. "That damn magic resistance of his…Caster's all but useless against him, and with Shirou's limited prana reserves, even Saber isn't guaranteed to take him down with her Noble Phantasm! At this rate…"

Rin trailed off as Sakura tightly clutched her arm. "We've got a chance now." The younger woman growled through the pain. "Archer just needs time."

Rin blinked, and then nodded in understanding. "Caster! Saber!" she shouted. "Keep Berserker busy!"

"Archer, do it!" Sakura shouted at her Servant. "Finish this fight!"

"Understood!" the Servants chorused, Caster and Saber putting their lives on the line to tie Berserker down, while Archer reopened the distance.

"How pointless!" Illya taunted while shaking Shirou off and then blasting him away with a (nonlethal) pulse of her power. She did look faintly regretful at the sight of her brother struggling to get up after getting blasted against rubble, but quickly regained her composure. "Berserker! Kill them all! Violate them! The Servants first, then their Masters! I can always fix onii-chan back up later, after all!"

Berserker roared, his body glowing with light as Illya's prana overflowed from his body. Illya grinned savagely at the sight, but then looked in alarm to the distance, as Archer also began to glow, shimmering and rising into the air with Sakura's prana.

"Expanding sacred domain." The white-clothed Servant chanted. "Domain secured."

"What is this?" Illya asked in apprehension.

"Did you really think you were the only one with a first-class Servant?" Sakura snapped in defiance. "A second-rate? Really? What a joke! My Servant is the greatest hero bar one of India! The Prince of the Pandavas, Hero of the Mahabharata, the Ever-Triumphant Bearer of Gandiva!"

"The Mahabharata? Gandiva?" Illya echoed in horrified realization. "But that means…!"

"Arjuna…" Rin breathed in awe at her sister. "…your Servant…is Arjuna."

"Divine punishment enforcement limits…all approved." Archer said, holding out a hand and channeling a sphere of blinding light. "By the wrath of Shiva, here ends thy life. Pashupata!"

Light lanced high into the sky, carving a path through the very atmosphere and into space, where it seemed to ignite as though it were a star. Then it fell, countless beams slamming into Berserker, his final roar of defiance drowned out by the thunder of displaced and burning air.

"Stop that." Rin snapped.

"Stop what?" Sakura and Illya chorused.

"Stop tapping the glass!" Rin exploded.

"Oh come on." Sakura said with a roll of her eyes. "It's not like it's going to break."

"Yeah, and besides, it pisses Makiri off." Illya said with a sadistic grin, tapping at the specially-enchanted glass container that held the last of the Matou Crest Worms, and with them, the last shards of Makiri Zolgen's souls. Who knows what secrets could be pried from them, once the Clock Tower could get around to pulling them apart?

"Considering all the trouble he put us through at the end of the war." Sakura said, joining in on tapping the glass once more. "I'd say this is fair and equal restitution."

"For starters." Illya pointed out.

"Agreed," Sakura said. "Who knew the Matou family was so loaded with cash? Even after the Association and the Japanese government took their dues, there's still plenty to go around. I'm going on vacation after this."

Illya cackled. "Mercenary and scavenger…" she accused.

"I'll take those as compliments, thank you very much." Sakura said with a grin, and Illya cackled again.

Rin groaned and palmed her face, even as Shirou arrived with a tea set.

"Tea's ready!" he cheerfully began, before noticing their air in the plane cabin. "Uh…what'd I miss?"

A/N

Il Carro: The Chariot, the seventh card of the Major Arcana. It's traditionally depicted a figure in a chariot pulled by horses or even sphinxes, usually with a black and white motif. The figure may or may not be in armor, or even of either gender, but always has either a crown or a helmet. They also usually carry either a sword or a staff of office. Stars always appear in one form or another above the figure, representing celestial influences.

The card's traditional associations include divine providence, war and triumph, but also vengeance and ill omens. It is rather obvious why the card fits this one-shot, yes?
