Detective Daniel Espinoza walked toward the club. He was investigating the murder of a musician named Delilah. He had thought it to be a normal case, until he talked to one of the witnesses. The man's name was Lucifer Morningstar. Detective Espinoza had noticed that despite having bullet holes in his suit, the man was uninjured.
"How are you alive?" Daniel asked Lucifer. Daniel was suspicious of the man and expected him to try to come up with some kind of excuse. Daniel had done this kind of thing before, when he was still hunting, and they always made an excuse.
"The benefits of immortality." Lucifer responds, surprising the former hunter. Lucifer never lied, even when others thought he should. Lucifer told Daniel about the conversation he had had with the man who shot his friend. Will you find the one responsible? Will he be punished? Will this be a priority for you?"
Daniel thought the tall man to be very strange. Daniel believed the murderer to be human, because why would a monster use a gun? The detective was worried that Lucifer would take matters into his own hands.
Daniel walked away from the nightclub. He thought about what to do next. Normally, he would call his wife Chloe, but last he knew she was on a hunt in Ohio and their relationship was strained. So Daniel decided to call someone else he trusted almost as much as Chloe. Bobby Singer.
Sam and Dean were in their car when Sam got a call from their father figure. "Yeah, we'll check it out, Bobby." Sam hung up the phone. "So Bobby has a lead on Lucifer."
"Yeah? What is it?" Dean asks his brother.
"Do you remember Dan?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, he's the hunter that married Chloe?"Dean asked. The brothers had known Chloe and her father since they were kids. Their dads hunted together.
"Yeah, anyway, he retired and he's a detective with the LAPD now." Sam told his brother.
"Really? That's surprising. He seemed like the type to never retire. Is Chloe still hunting?"
"Oh yeah. Last Bobby heard she was hunting a werewolf in Ohio. Apparently the two have a daughter together, and she's the reason Dan retired." Sam was thinking about how much had changed since they all were kids hunting together.
"So the case is in LA?" Dean asked. "What exactly happened?"
"Basically, a singer named Delilah was shot in front of a nightclub and died. The thing was she wasn't alone." Sam said.
"What makes it our thing?" Dean asked.
"Well, the other person was right next to, and his suit had bullet holes, but he was perfectly fine." The brothers were both thinking of all the things it could be.
"Okay, definitely our thing, but why did you say it was a Lucifer lead?"
"The man said his name is Lucifer." Dean looked at his brother surprised.
Chloe Decker arrived back in Los Angeles after finishing her werewolf hunt. The hunter calls her husband. "Hey Dan, I'm back in town."
"Chlo, good timing. I already called Bobby, but there might be a case in town." Dan told Chloe about the murder he was investiagting. "I think Bobby said he was going to send Sam and Dean Winchester."
"Sam? Wow, I haven't seen him in a long time." Chloe was a lot closer to Sam than she was to Dean, but she cared about both of them.
"Yeah, I did a hunt with Dean before Trixie was born. A poltergeist in Detroit." Dan hadn't been on a hunt since Trixie was born. He still wanted to help people. But he didn't want her to have to move around so much like him and Chloe had been 's why he became a cop. Chloe and Daniel agreed that one of them would stay in one place while the other would hunt, and Dan chose to stay.
Sam and Dean arrived at the nightclub called Lux, at the same time as Chloe. Dean was looking at the woman he had grown up with. Dean thought she was hot.
"Chloe, it's good to see you again." Sam was shuffling awkwardly. Dean wondered if Sam and Chloe had been together, based on how Sam was acting.
"Hey Sam. Dean. I see you're still driving the Impala." She looked at it like she was remembering something.
"I thought you were in Ohio." Dean said. "Bobby said you were hunting a werewolf."
"Yeah, it was a 90 year old woman, which was a little weird. I just got back today." Chloe said laughing slightly. "I come back home after every hunt to spend time with Trixie."
"Trixie, that's your daughter right?" Sam asked and Chloe nodded. "So I take it Dan told you about what's going on?"
"And Bobby filled me in on the whole apocalypse thing."Chloe walked over to Sam and whispered, "I've heard the rumors, it's not your fault, you were manipulated." Sam smiled sadly, while Dean wondered what she had told his brother.
"So, let's go in." Dean said, trying to avoid the thought of his brother and Chloe.
Lucifer saw three people walk into Lux. When they approached him they claimed to be FBI agents, but Lucifer recognized two of them. Lucifer doubted any of them were who they claimed to be."Is this some kind of roleplay?"
"What? No. We're here about the murder that happened here two nights ago." Sam Winchester said.
"I'm sure you are, but you definitely are not FBI. Hunters, I presume. Does that make that detective earlier a hunter as well?" Lucifer asked, with a smile showing that it was not really a question. Lucifer had heard of hunters, but never had the pleasure of meeting one himself.
"How did you know?" The woman asked. The Winchester brothers gave her a look. "Sam, Dean, he already knows, there is no point in lying. I'm Chloe."
"I like you. You look familiar. Have we met?" Lucifer knew her face from somewhere but couldn't place it.
"No, we haven't." Chloe said sternly. "Listen, we have some questions to ask you."
"Detective Espinoza," Sam said as though he was trying to act like he didn't know the man. "Said your name is Lucifer. Since you know we're hunters, I might as well ask this up front."
"Sammy, he's not going to tell the truth." Dean said to his brother.
"You want to know if I'm actually the devil. The answer is yes, although I'm probably quite different than you expected." The fallen angel told the brothers, who promptly pulled their guns on him. "Those won't work on me. I'm immortal."
"Sam, Dean, does it really seem smart to shoot the devil?" Chloe was definitely the smart one. Sam put his gun down first, Dean was next. "What's the devil doing in LA?"
"I'm on vacation, of course." Lucifer told the hunters. "I figure I should probably take one now, before my idiot brothers decide to start the apocalypse." The three of them looked at him with a look that showed they thought he was crazy.
"Um… The apocalypse has already started… How do you not know that?" Sam asked.
"Bloody hell." Lucifer says. "Already? I was hoping for another couple decades before they let that thing out. Now it's going to ruin my fun."
"That thing? Aren't you that thing?" Dean asked.
"No, whoever told you that? Was it Uriel? Or Zachariah?" The devil sighed. "I was never in that cage. It was my plan to avoid having to fight my brother. I gave it my grace, not all, and I've recovered it. It's very strong, mind you. Strong enough to kill almost any angel around, but it is not me."
"And why should we believe you?" Sam asked.
"Well two reasons, if I were that creature, I probably would have killed your friend here. Also I don't lie. I never lie." Lucifer. told them.
"I believe him." Chloe said. "He's weird and definitely dangerous, but I don't think he's lying."
"So that was definitely weird, right?' Sam says to Dean, while Chloe was picking up her daughter from school.
"Speaking of strange, you and Chloe were a thing right?" Dean asked.
Sam sighed. "It was a long time ago. I was 18. It was right before I went to Stanford. You remember that ghost in Oregon. The highschool hockey player who was killing his rivals. Well, Chloe and I were doing research in the car while you guys were talking to the witness. Stuff happened." Sam stopped as he saw Dan walk in.
"Wait, in the car? Like my car?" Dean asked, sounding disgusted. "Gross. Oh hi Dan. It's been forever."
"Sam, don't worry, I know you and Chloe had a thing." Dan said to Sam's relief. "So catch me up. You talked to the witness right?"
"Yeah, he said he was actually the devil." Sam told his old friend.
"Wait, is that possible?" Dan asked, Chloe hadn't told him about the apocalypse yet.
"Um… yes, it's sort of the apocalypse right now." Sam responded, with a hint of guilt in his voice. "Demons sort of opened the cage the devil was supposedly in."
"Supposedly?" Dan asked. He was alarmed by the whole apocalypse thing, but he needed all the facts first.
"Yeah, the Lucifer we met today, claimed that it was asort of copy that was in the cage. A copy he made to avoid fighting his brother." Dean said, with a tone that made it clear he didn't believe the angel.
"Dean, I'm telling you, we need to call Cas." Sam told his brother the same thing he had said on the way to Chloe's house.
"Who is Cas?" Chloe asked, while walking in with her daughter, Trixie. Sam and Dean look at the young girl awkwardly, not knowing whether or not to say anything.
"I know mommy fights monsters." Trixie told them. "And that Daddy used to."
"Cas is an angel." Sam said. "A good one." Sam and his brother had met a lot of angels who were, as Dean would say, dicks.
"You know an angel, and you haven't called him yet?" Dan asked, a little overwhelmed.
"Alright fine, I'll call the angel." Dean said. He then proceeded to pray to the angel, who immediately called Dean on his cellphone to ask him where he was. Castiel hung up, then immediately appeared in Chloe's living room.
"What the hell?" Dan asked, shocked.
"I am from Heaven." The angel in the trenchcoat said clearly confused.
"He's very literal, isn't he?" Chloe asked with a slight laugh. Sam and Dean nodded.
"Why did you call me here, Dean?" The angel asked, and Dean explained the situation to him. "This is likely true. The only way I can confirm it is if I meet the man himself."
They went to the club, this time with Castiel. "Little Brother, it's good to see you again. Well, maybe not good, but better you than Amenadiel." Lucifer said, looking at the younger angel.
"So it is true, Lucifer. There were rumors in Heaven, but I was never certain they were true." Castiel looked at his older brother, with mixed emotions.
"How is dad anyway?" Lucifer asked Castiel.
"I do not know, he hasn't been in Heaven for a long time." Castiel tells him.
"Does anyone else feel like we got in the middle of a family reunion?" Dan asked, his friends.
"Little brother, if you're with them, I assume you don't want Michael and that creature to destroy the world." Lucifer was surprised when Castiel nodded in agreement. "I'll help you, that way I can go back to my vacation."
