Oh boy, here I go gaming again. And what better game is there than the game of life?... I don't know, Civ is pretty fun I guess. A lot calmer too, something which I'm sure our favorite green hero would appreciate every now and again.
Speaking of which, in our last chapter we left the sparking green wonder just before he blew the collective minds of his classmates...Again. That should be fun!
Story Start
"...At this point should we even be surprised?" Iida read and voiced class 1A's collective thoughts after I told them about my final exam opponents and how I did against them. "Sometimes I wonder why U.A hasn't already accelerated your heroics lessons, by now you should easily be able to earn a provisional license at the very least."
Again, accurate, but being a hero required more than just pure power or academic ability. While I had the first one in spades and my intelligence was rivaled only by Momo. Even then, I only rivaled her because of my relative lack of focus on book smarts. If I truly applied myself I'd likely surpass her too.
Still, I was missing one very important aspect of heroism that couldn't be bought with skill points...Gacha perhaps, but not skill points. "I still need to learn to work with other heroes. Plus I wouldn't want to leave you all behind like that. Nobody no matter how powerful can do everything by themselves. All Might couldn't, and I certainly can't." Even if I could theoretically get that strong with the Gamer, I still wouldn't want to do everything by myself. How lonely of an existence would that be?
All Might already made the mistake of going at it alone and he was still suffering the consequences. I would make sure to learn from that mistake and never repeat it. "Besides, they are thinking of giving me an alternative provisional license exam similar to what they did for this one. I don't know the details yet but I think I have a good guess." If it was what I thought it was…
"D-Deku-kun, why are you smiling like that? Why did you suddenly go from a Nezu smile to a Midnight smile when I asked?!" Oh no, I let my inside feelings appear on my outside. That's not good. "You can't just pretend that nothing happened by giving us an innocent smile anymore Deku-kun! That stopped working months ago."
Plan A was a bust...Plan B it is! "Why don't we all go shopping as a class to celebrate the end of our first semester? Any food is on me." Good ol bribery, it never fails!
Hours later, Kiyashi shopping mall, Wookies
Apparently, bribery was far less effective against the stupidly wealthy and the exceptionally pious. "Ok ok, I'll admit I was having a bit too much fun thinking about the upcoming provisional exam. Look, can we just forget about that and enjoy the day? It's been a while since we've just relaxed together." The sports festival, the internships, and recently their finals. Their whole class could use a break like this.
"...I guess you're right. It wasn't that much of a big deal anyway, I'm just...Still a little shaken from my own practical exam." Momo muttered, rubbing her chin when a bit of phantom pain struck her from the memory. I nodded in understanding, more than aware of just how painful fighting All Might could be.
"I just came along to glare at you because I sensed you thinking something sinful. Though honestly, I'm still in a bit of shock over finding out that your life has basically become a video game. Ah, and everything to do with Asobi, it's all a bit overwhelming." Another perspective that I could easily understand.
'If I was being honest with myself, I'd probably be going mad by now if it weren't for Gamer's Mind.' Even with it on it could be argued that I've gone just a tiny bit insane because of The Game. Just a tad. "Oh, who am I kidding, healing ability or not sacrificing limbs for minor combat advantages isn't sane by any metric."
"At least you're aware of it." My entire class said at once...I really need to stop saying things out loud at random. "Yes, you should!" The choir spoke once again. I definitely wasn't pouting at them. Badass heroes don't pout.
Ok, maybe just a little.
Still, this was a nice change of pace. My classmates were all enjoying themselves, my girlfriends(that would never get old) in particular were looked to be having a great time, and most importantly, I haven't been attacked by a villain in days! 'Looks like my luck is finally starting to-' I felt an arm go around my neck and I knew for damn sure that it wasn't any of my classmates.
"Sunova- You know what, fine. What do you want Shigaraki, make it fast I'm really not in the mood for this." I was half tempted to just smash his head in immediately but I decided to humor him for now. A quick analyze proved that he was only a little bit stronger than the last time I saw him.
"Tsk, typical arrogant hero." My glare stopped him from going on a tangent. "Whatever, I just need to ask you something, maybe you know. Remember those Nomu? Of course, you do, you killed two of them. Well, what I wanna know is, if they caused so much destruction before they were offed, then why does all anyone care of in the media is this Stain guy? You heroes I can understand, it's your world, for now, but Stain is just another villain right? Why does he get all the attention and not the League?"
...Was this guy an idiot? Ah, right. He was a villain and probably didn't get out much. "That's all? Well, that's easy, quite frankly, you're boring." I felt him tense, good, better to make him angry and predictable. "Stain had a high charisma stat, he knew how to sound convincing while standing on his soapbox. Killing a bunch of heroes was just a flashy attention grabber for most. If Stain just did that and had no other message or any charisma to him then he would have been forgotten shortly after he was captured."
"So I have to put more points in charisma to get people to pay attention? Bunch of sheep, why do they care so much for Stain though, he and I were basically doing the same thing aren't we? Destroying the things that we don't like." A very simplistic outlook, not exactly wrong but nowhere near correct.
"If you want to cut out all the nuance then sure. But the difference is that Stain made his point sound convincing. And in a way it was, there are plenty of heroes out there that I don't think deserve the title either. But the way he went about it? Killing random heroes without hesitation or remorse? Nobody normal would accept that." Did some scumbags out there deserve it? Probably, but the way Stain went about it?
"Seriously, even I didn't know who Native was before he was attacked. Me! Apparently, his 'grave sin' was not trying to stop a speeding car that robbed a bank nearby...Native's quirk is minor herbal communication, the hell was he supposed to do, complain to the local oak tree about it?" It would seem that I was the one to go on a rant this time. Though it was a justified one, even Shigaraki was giving me a raised eyebrow at the story.
"I knew that guy was a petty asshole. And trust me I know the type. But damn, even I'm starting to feel bad about this Native dude. Well anyways, I think I have my answer now. If you try to capture me just remember how fast I am and how many meatshi-" Shigaraki barely noticed the distortions in the air before his hands were separated from his body by...Two pieces of flat sheet metal.
"F-Fuck! Kurogiri!" He called out in pain and desperation, it was far too late though. I had already walked up and held Shigaraki by the neck and proceeded to apply enough pressure to stop his blood flow, and by the way, he was wasting oxygen by thrashing around, he'd be out cold in a few seconds.
"You're even more of an idiot than I thought. Honestly, coming here alone and trying a stunt like this on me of all people, are you suicidal?" A portal opened up just behind Shigaraki, I moved him out of the way immediately and caught a hand that came out of the portal, crushing it instantly and pulling to capture whoever it was that was trying to save the handless villain.
"You again? They never did catch you, Toga Himiko." Another quick analyze helped me understand why.

Interesting, no wonder she managed to evade capture for so long, now the question is why was she working with the League...Why did I no longer have a hand. "Shit!" I cried out as another portal formed right around my wrist before closing just as quickly as it was formed, freeing Shigaraki and allowing him to escape through a second portal that appeared just under him.
"Hehe, looks like you're the type that gets distracted easily. Or did you think that Shigi wasn't a threat anymore after cutting off his hands? Nice move by the way, I didn't know heroes were allowed to be so brutal." Himiko commented, seemingly unconcerned that she'd been left behind while her leader ran for the hills.
"Tsk, I'll give you that, still what was the plan here exactly? Was Shigaraki supposed to just waltz on in, threaten my and everyone's lives and expect to leave just like that? I guess you were supposed to be the back up plan in case I got the upper hand right? I gotta say, not a great pl-" A hidden blade was pulled out and aimed shoved right into my eye...Or it would have if Toga wasn't much weaker than Stain who himself could barely pierce through the upper layer of my skin. The blade stopped dead the moment it touched my irises.
"You're a slippery one. And I can't get rid of your quirk as easily as the idiot's." I say, annoyance clear in my voice from the attempt at blinding me and Shigaraki's escape. 'I'll have to make sure that doesn't happen again.' I thought while jumping straight into the air, narrowly avoiding a portal that tried to open right under my feet.
"Nice try, but I'm really not in the mood to be kidnapped today. ᛖᚻᛉ" Three runes were cast in quick succession causing a thin but somehow visible electric current to cloak Toga's body. Seemingly not causing any pain but still doing an important job.
Landing on a nearby rooftop I threw the villain onto the floor and made sure that she stayed in my field of vision at all times. "There, that should interfere with any wireless signal devices you are probably wearing. Now, you're going to be nice and quiet while the police make their way here. Can you do that?"
"Hmm, you broke my hand-ow! I guess that's fair since I stabbed you last time. Though I thought you weren't into causing pain as much as-" I was stopping that right then and there!
"Nope, those rumors are all false and completely uncalled for! I can barely even feel pain anymore so it wouldn't even make sense for me to be a masochist!" Surprisingly the blonde actually shut up and listened intently… Was that yandere title closer to the truth than I thought? Oh boy.
"It was just a bad joke that was misunderstood by the media and went too far. Now, since you seem to have no interest in staying silent, how about you answer a few questions for me. Why are you working with that schmuck Toga-san?" I was genuinely curious, from what I could gather Shigaraki had the charisma and relatability of a mustache-twirling evildoer from the 1960s.
If even that.
"Well, I don't really care about *snort Handsy." Apparently she found the nickname funny. "I just joined because I heard Stainy was part of their group and I admired him. I'm a big fan of anyone trying to replace the world we live in now I guess. The present is no fun for anyone that isn't 'normal' or whatever." Ah, so she was lied to. Her motivation seems a little vague though, hmm.
"A lie then. Stain never worked for the League and from what we gathered attacked Shigaraki in their first meeting out of disgust. And what do you mean when you say replace our current world? On that, I think we can both agree that what we have now is far from acceptable." Her face that was paying attention calmly was replaced with surprise.
"Is it so shocking to hear? Even heroes, no. Heroes especially know very well that the world isn't perfect. That far too many people slip through the cracks and become unfortunate statistics, even with All Might around such things were never in question for those that took a deeper look at the world." Some lived in blissful ignorance of such things, but most people knew the truth.
Heroes weren't perfect, they weren't all-powerful, and worst of all, they were reactive by nature.
"The difference between those heroes and me is that I plan on changing things for the better in any way that I can. Sorry to burst your bubble, but crime, violence, and domestic terrorism are horrible methods of persuasion. Real, permanent change won't come from such things." It would just make those who notice resentful, it would turn their so-called 'fake' heroes into martyrs. It would delegitimize their whole cause for most people.
Toga blushed heavily and started squirming in place. Much to my growing discomfort, hopefully she didn't take what I said the wrong way. "Looks like we got company, feel free to come out girls, this one has been taken care of and we're just waiting for a hero and the police at this point." I called out to the girls who have been messaging me via the group chat system ever since I jumped out of the mall.
"There's not a dull day with you, is there, Deku-kun? So who's this girl? And why does she have a broken hand?" Ochako commented as she and the rest of the Deku Party™ flooded in. "I don't like the way she's looking at you, is she one of those overly clingy fangirls?" She asked, not expecting a reply.
"I'm a huge fan of Midoriya-kun! Or is Deku like a cute nickname to call him? Deku-kun it is, he's just so cool, especially when he's covered in his own blood like that!" The other girls shivered at the crimson red flag that just got raised by the blood loving blonde.
"What is it with Izuku-kun and violent blondes? First Bakugo-san, now her." Momo muttered, she would have followed up by reprimanding Toga if it weren't for the sudden sirens they heard in the distance. "Looks like the police are finally here, we should escort this girl there, she probably needs a doctor to look at that hand too."
"Oh right, not gonna lie I forgot I had this quirk for a minute there. Give me your hand Toga-san." I was disappointed to see that she did so without hesitation and with a manic grin on her face...I was going to regret this wasn't I? Stupid heroic mercy. I kissed the hand and immediately the broken bones began to mend and Toga's hp went back to full.
"Don't look too much into it, I just did that to heal you and it was the least awkward place to kiss. I said don't look into it! Stop giggling like that! And don't even think about stabbing me again, I'm...mostly knife proof now." Magical mystical blades of 'fuck you damage' and anti-healing don't count ok!
"Hehe, you say that but you could have also just let me suffer with a broken wrist. You earned some points by acting like a real hero, the kiss on the hand helped too. Your girlfriends should keep an eye on you unless they want more to join them~" Thankfully the police chose that exact moment to storm in and break up that awkward conversation before it could go further.
"We came as fast as we could, do you need assis-" The young officer, probably a rookie given his age, stopped mid-sentence in surprise at the scene in front of him. "...Am I missing something?" Why were a bunch of high school students casually standing with a known and dangerous criminal as if it was perfectly normal and safe?
"It's because I am here and already neutralized the threat. Besides, even if I wasn't here you shouldn't underestimate U.A students." I couldn't help but use All Might's line. I always wanted to do that! "Toga Himiko has been pacified and Shigaraki Tomura is effectively quirkless for now. We just need your approval to take her in and give a report. Ah, and just as a formality, I claim self defense and a citizen's arrest ahead of time."
"B-but wouldn't you still be charged for using your quirk to apprehend a villain?" The poor guy stuttered out, seemingly taken aback by my casual attitude. "Not that the charges would stick probably, we're aware of your...Unique situation." None of the specifics of course, but U.A had a few of the beans after the Stain incident to keep the police happy.
"Technically I didn't use my quirk to apprehend either of them. I attacked Shigaraki when he threatened to kill me and many civilians using my quirk, but after that I just used my physical strength to hold him down. Every use of my quirk after that was for 'transportation' which I have a license for." Granted he did use his rune magecraft to mess with Toga's tech and Recovery Girl's quirk to heal her but one wasn't a quirk and the other was covered by the good samaritan laws so he was still fine.
"Uh...I need to talk to the chief about this. I always sucked at the legal side of all this." He admitted lamely, he wouldn't have to wait long though as a pair of familiar faces made themselves known. "Ah! Chief Tsuragamae, Detective Tsukauchi, you two came here personally?!"
"When we heard that a certain U.A student got into trouble again nearby we decided to take care of it ourselves. Lo and behold we have Midoriya-san again, caught in a bad situation and surely skirting around the letter of the law to catch villains again. I'm getting too old for this shit woof." I legitimately felt bad for the guy, he seemed like an upstanding guy who's been dealing with the undoubtedly massive amount of paperwork I've created over the last few months.
"Poor doggo. Keep your chin up!" Toga's seemingly nonchalant and cheerful attitude was starting to unnerve everyone. It was almost as if this was all a game to her, though those that had superhuman senses and a magical analysis ability could tell that she was internally sweating bullets.
'I guess she never thought that she'd be in such a precarious situation when her 'allies' had a warper in their pocket. But here she is, being left high and dry while her supposed leader ran away.' Pity hit me and it hit hard. Sure she was a villain and likely a killer but this was just sad.
"Midoriya-kun, we'll need you to come with us and give a statement along with the other hero students here. The rest of your class is free to go home though since they weren't a part of this." ...Whoops, I can already feel the glares coming from the girls. This was supposed to be a relaxing outing!
"Hehe, sorry everyone." If only I had a luck stat, though implementing something that literally warps fate and the world around me is probably too much to ask. 'Level locked, you'll earn it eventually.' 'Nani?!'
It would seem that he'd have to do some more reading into that rule 'book' that he got at the start of all of this. Who knows what could have changed after fifty something levels?
Who knows indeed, I'll have to put together all of my notes for system ideas before the big reveal comes in next chapter. We're in the mid-game now boys and girls, time to unlock some of those extra features.
And maybe give some of the factions which were previously in the shadows some time in the sun? We'll just have to wait and see, until next time. And as always, I hope you all have a great day.
