Rose Potter: Catwoman.

The Start of a New Life.

"I can't believe that you did this, Rose!" Dumbledore said suddenly, taking over the conversation/interrogation in one of the Interview Rooms in the DMLE. The teenager had been sitting opposite Rufus Scrimgeour and Amelia Bones, telling them everything that had happened with Voldemort.

Rose had told them how she had discovered the Horcruxes and the other method of immortality Voldemort had used for immortality after she had visited the Room of Requirement.

She had told them about the other forms of immortality that the Dark Lord could have used, such as body-snatching but she had narrowed it all down based on experience with the wizard, which led to a whole line of q questioning Rose had expected from the word go. And she had. She told them about the Philosopher's Stone, the Chamber of Secrets, and her encounter with him in the Goblet of Fire. Those stories could have come straight out of the tacky Rose Potter storybooks written for kids and teenagers, or people who had nothing better to do with their lives had Rose not been smart enough to show memories of the events. Dumbledore immediately tried to step in, but Amelia Bones shot him down and warned him that he had no jurisdiction in the investigation. Unfortunately, Bones had to step in more than once, Dumbledore just refused to listen and to learn. The old wizard was forced to watch as Rose shared everything with Amelia Bones and Rufus Scrimgeour.

She showed them the first signs of Dumbledore hiding something important which came from Gringotts that Hagrid retrieved in full view of the girl, and the signs of the mystery surrounding the package; Hagrid letting slip that stuff about the Stone, the detention into the Forbidden Forest which made Bones and Scrimgeour rant at Dumbledore for an hour, especially when they saw what was attacking the Unicorns, all the way to the meeting with Voldemort who was possessing Quirrell.

If Bones had been furious with Dumbledore for the possessed Voldemort who was feeding on Unicorns for their blood and had screamed the senile old wizard should have called in the aurors to investigate and catch the one responsible for attacking the precious creatures, she was incandescent with rage when she saw physical proof of Voldemort's survival. She'd screeched questions along the lines of "What the hell were you thinking keeping this secret?" And "Why didn't you contact us, the DMLE should have been informed of this?" And there were even questions about Dumbledore's integrity and sanity, and if his habit of playing manipulative games where many paid the price had made him see everything as games.

The old wizard had given the usual answers "it was all for the Greater Good" and "there was no danger." But where those platitudes might have worked with Gryffindors, or politicians as weak-willed and incompetent like Fudge, these two were not fooled. It only led to more questions, especially the ones when the two of them watched the events of Year Two unfold.

They saw Dobby's warnings and the house-elf's foolish attempts to keep her away from Hogwarts. They also saw how muggle-borns like Colin Creevey and the others were just left on the hospital wing beds before Rose, using her family's money, pooled her resources with some of the other muggle-borns before everyone accused her of being the Heir of Slytherin because she stopped a snake from attacking someone else at the questionable duelling club. Bones and Scrimgeour were unhappy with the way the teachers just allowed the bullying except for Flitwick, who defended Rose to the hilt although it did little good against people like McGonagall and Sprout.

Rose had noted Bones looking particularly pained when she saw Sprout's actions, and she learnt that the majority of the Bones family had gone into Hufflepuff for both their loyalty and their hardworking ethic. She could appreciate that. Rose had nothing against Hufflepuffs if they were friends, but she despised the way they only seemed loyal to other Hufflepuffs, and she had no idea if it was down to the way Dumbledore ran the school. Hopefully, Dumbledore would be kicked out of the school soon. His welcome was long gone.

They watched as Rose conducted an investigation into the Chamber of Secrets, discovering the truth of what happened 50 years before and proving Hagrid was innocent while Fudge had just read the files from years before and thrown the groundskeeper into Azkaban and brushed his hands, just to be seen doing something and believing he'd solved the problem.

Only he hadn't.

Rose hid a smirk when she saw Bones make copious amounts of notes about the cock-ups of Fudge, and she could see even though the DMLE head wasn't saying a word about her plans was preparing for the delightful moment she could get Fudge out of office. Rose herself would be glad of it. Fudge had caused too much trouble over the years.

When she showed them what happened in the Chamber of Secrets, Bones and Scrimgeour almost destroyed the room with their magical anger combined, and they shouted the questions at Dumbledore which Rose had noted a long time ago. Dumbledore's phoenix could have stopped the basilisk long ago, Rose had seen how easily the magical songbird had swooped into the Chamber and realised Dumbledore could have dealt with this long ago and given his skills and power as a wizard, it wouldn't be difficult for the Headmaster himself to deal with the giant serpent.

Bones and Scrimgeour clearly realised it as well and demanded to know why Dumbledore had left this all to a second-year girl. Dumbledore didn't say a word, although the two members of the DMLE made it painfully obvious to the old wizard he would be facing some painful questioning later.

And on and on it went. Rose showed them everything from the dementor exposure in third year which garnered a lot of apologies and promises of how Fudge would answer for it. When she showed them how she had taught several students with the help of Lupin and Flitwick the Patronus charm, Bones asked pointedly, "Why didn't you have the Patronus charm mass taught, Albus?"

The headmaster had just given another one of his platitudes and she'd carried on.

Bones and Scrimgeour might have thought it impossible to get even more dismayed and furious by the state of affairs at Hogwarts, but they were wrong when they were shown Rose's memories of the Triwizard Tournament; they knew the whole thing had been one disaster after another, which didn't win Fudge many favours on the international magical stage. But when they saw how Rose had just been thrown into the Tournament and having to swear on her magic she didn't put her name into that thrice-damned goblet and had to handle the questions she'd gotten from Dumbledore if she knew how her name got into the Goblet, they became even more worried about Dumbledore's sanity.

They had questions about the First Task and what Dumbledore was thinking of allowing dragons to be brought in, before demanding to know what he was thinking of putting kids under the water, especially the daughter of a senior official in the French Ministry. Rose knew she was referring to Gabrielle Delacour, the sweet little sister of Fleur Delacour.

Bones and Scrimgeour were both bemoaning the way Fudge handled everything when he was told about who the Death Eaters were, and his total unprofessional attitude when he was told Voldemort was back. The Minister had refused to even consider the possibility, and because of that, the magical world could have lost the war before it began.

Fudge's coffin was nailed shut tight and was on the verge of being buried in the Marianna Trench when they saw the memories of what Umbridge was doing at the school. Rose hadn't suffered any of her detentions, but Rose had gone out of her way to meet students who had, and their hands were cut open by the Blood Quill.

Fudge had put her into Hogwarts, and he cleared her ridiculous decrees.

The teenager was just relieved she was dealing with somebody with intelligence between their ears because both Bones and Scrimgeour demanded to see the resurrection of Voldemort. It was a big difference from the likes of Fudge, who had just shouted, dismissing everything she had tried to tell him although she had known he wouldn't have believed her.

As a Ravenclaw, Rose had known there was a strong possibility of Voldemort's return not being believed by Fudge but she had done her best because the stupid politician needed to know of the danger lurking nearby. She was just annoyed that Bones and Scrimgeour only believed her because they'd had physical proof of Voldemort's return in the Ministry - somehow she had the feeling that neither of them had initially believed her, but Rose didn't care about that, nor was she going to mope about it. What was done was done, they could not avoid that.

Dumbledore had been quiet, much to Rose's surprise. He had stood in the corner of the room, standing there watching and listening, but he had just been silent overall before now.

"Did what?" Rose looked up into the old wizard's eyes, making sure she strengthened her occlumency barriers.

"Discovered a way of killing Voldemort without informing me. You know how long I have dedicated my life to stopping Dark Lords!" Dumbledore cried.

Rose shrugged. "What does it matter now?"

"What does it matter? Rose, people are dying! They are losing their magic-!"

Rose looked at the elderly wizard in surprise mixed with contempt and irritation. She had encountered this kind of idiotic holier than thou shit from Gryffindors before, but she'd never understood their unwillingness to open their eyes. And it always took her aback. How did they think wars were meant to be won, by sending the enemy flowers? So much for Gryffindor bravery, and taking stupid risks."So what?"

"SO WHAT?!" Dumbledore bellowed while Bones and her deputy looked on. The two were a stark contrast; the old wizard, dressed in his outlandish wizarding robes and with his long white hair and beard and the smaller witch wearing Ravenclaw robes with the badge gleaming on her neat uniform. But for a long time, many people had believed that Dumbledore and Rose Potter shared personalities. They were both of the Light, both were forgiving although in the Girl Who Lived's case that was down to Dumbledore's teachings as he programmed and controlled the teenager like a puppet.

It was hard to conceive, especially since it was well known that many of House Ravenclaw did not trust the Headmaster. They didn't like Dumbledore's methodology and many openly or secretly made it clear the man was shortsighted when it came to certain and specific matters.

But that was ignored when it came to the Girl Who Lived.

Clearly, that belief was totally wrong.

Rose Potter clearly had a mind of her own, and she didn't give a damn about who knew it.

"Yeah, so what?" Rose challenged, folding her arms over her chest. "If it means the magical world is safe, that people like Voldemort and his followers don't kill people for his own sick desires, what does it matter if they lose their magic?"

Dumbledore was outraged. "You have absolutely no right to make that decision, Rose!"

"And what right did you have hiding the knowledge somebody that dangerous was still around after '81? You knew that psychopath was still alive, but you didn't say a word. You endangered the lives of everyone in Hogwarts just to play your games when you hid the Philosopher's Stone in the castle and when you didn't make Fawkes take you down into the Chamber, which you should have done the moment you had the chance. You could have stopped Ginny from being possessed and gotten her some help, instead, you just let it happen and let an 11-year-old become possessed. Even now I dunno how much damage was done to her mind. You also went out of your way to shape me up to become a hero!" Rose sneered.

Dumbledore stared at her as if he were only just seeing her for the first time. "You've gone dark, Rose."

"Oh, put a sock in it, old man. If you believe that I'm dark because I took the magic from the Death Eaters, go right ahead. I'm not going to answer to any stupidity. You're not that bright, and you have caused enough damage as it is. Anyway, the Death Eaters and their master deserved it, and there's nothing you can do about it. Many people out there will thank me when they discover what kind of people the Death Eaters are, and if you think I'm gonna cry over the likes of someone like Lucius Malfoy, then you are even stupider than I thought."

Bones stood up. "That's enough, no more than enough. And she is right; when people see for themselves the kind of disease the Death Eaters represent to society, especially after what I've just seen with Rufus and indeed yourself, they will see the threat they were."

"Amelia, they could have been redeemed-," Dumbledore tried to protest.

"Redeem? I've heard this from you before, Dumbledore," Scrimgeour was about to have his say now, "and I think you're deluded, dreaming and stupid. And downright careless. You endangered the lives of so many Hogwarts students who you pledged to protect. You swore to protect them and yet you transformed the once hallowed school into a Death Eater training ground so you could prove your theories and pat yourself on the back when the war was over. But it's clear from Ms Potter's memories you didn't care if people were hurt. This girl has done more for the Light than you have in the last decade, and if you think many people in their right minds would cry over the likes of Bellatrix Lestrange, you are deluded."

"Personally I'm glad they have lost their protection, Albus. Squibs and muggles have no rights under the DMLE, and their family protection means nothing now. I'm looking forwards to finding out what they've been doing over the years, and I'm going to enjoy asking one question to all of them with you there. Ms Potter, I shall escort you personally back to Hogwarts," Bones said, startling the Ravenclaw who had begun to feel she might have been forgotten.

"Thank you," Rose stood up. "Will you be needing me during the trials?"

"Perhaps. I will let you know. In the meantime, enjoy what's left of your fifth year. Do you have any more exams?"

"No, thankfully. It is all over for me," Rose hid a smile as the older witch escorted her back to Hogwarts through the floo network, delighting in playing a little joke wrapped in a half-truth. She only had her NEWTs to do, but as far as her Hogwarts time went, it was over.
