Hello everybody.
Okay given everything that I'm going to be talking about I figured it was best to just do a prolog author notes chapter first before getting into the story.
This is going to be a character's view of the show fic combining Smallville with Arrow so a few quick things on the timeline.
Oliver's five years away starts one year before Smallville season 1 so when Clark starts his season one events it is already Oliver's year two and so on.
The Smallville events follow roughly the show until season 6. So, no Kara, Orb, Lionel being behind killing Oliver's parents, Darkside, and so on from Smallville 5x23 is more or less is AU.
Regarding Arrow while I'm keeping Flash until well still figuring when exactly breaking off, there is none of the remaining rip off MCU Arrowverse shows, they used Arrow as an uncaring scapegoat for launching did not happen. Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman or Supergirl, Superman & Lois, or anything else is gone.
Obviously, there are changes from interconnecting these two shows as Smallville season 6 will have the more serious AU changes of Stephen Amell's Oliver and no Oliver/Lois romance.
First, there is no Crisis on Infinite Earths events or Elseworld's crap at all.
Regarding my thoughts directly for Smallville while the show has its downs like far too much Clark Kent/Lana Lang crap, the writers having this obsession with Kristen/Lana, no Clark flying became quite ridiculous in later seasons, over-reliance on memory wipes, plot induced dumbness and other melodramatic stuff the show did get things right.
One major thing that puts it ahead of any DC CW show is it treats Clark, and other heroes with respect from start to finish. Smallville never did what Arrow does on massively hating Oliver Queen for killing bad guys. Like even in Arrow's series finale, they had this let's shove Oliver down as serial killer garbage.
Now I frankly find Oliver's Arrow as established in the first two seasons before character damage, to be more interesting than Justin Hartley's on Smallville despite enjoying both.
Of course, I'll take like Smallville's Hawkman or Justice Society over what Arrowverse gave us any day of the week. Smallville couldn't use the Justice League yet did their best to give Smallville the actual JL, meanwhile, Arrowverse can have Barry from DCEU appear yet still refuses to give us the Justice League of their violation despite not having the rights issue.
Compared to Supergirl's Clark of Tyler Hoechlin to Tom Welling, there is no contest of Tom's Superman is the better one hands down.
Now yes Tom Welling threw a hissy fit with going above Smallville writer's heads to get the higher-ups at DC for eliminating the Smallville's original finale which would have been a mini-Superman film with Clark Kent in the actual suit. All because Tom didn't see the show having earned it yet… which is total BS since we had The Blur for three full seasons.
Regardless Tom got more of Superman's character right for treating Clark with respect, never got torn down to prop up Kara Danvers, got beat in a fight by Supergirl or any other crap for Tyler's Super wimp.
Also, unlike Gotham which is a poorer version of Smallville actually by failing to show why Gotham City needed Batman. Yes, it was pitched as Jim Gordon show but once the writers decided also show Bruce down the Batman path they instead failed since even in Gotham's series finale Jim Gordon was so much of a Batman with a badge it made Bruce useless.
Smallville took a whole decade to put Clark in the suit only it showed why Metropolis, heck the whole world needed Superman.
Now getting into the so-called Smallville earth in COIE events which had numerous plot holes or inconsistent with Clark's character for having him give up his powers erasing a ten-year journey in less than five minutes. You know never mind Smallville had established a world with no Clark having powers is well the end of it. Or the fact Clark finally moved on to realizing that he never, ever would be normal.
Frankly, given the Arrowverse writers, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they ruined Smallville out of sheer pettiness. COIE is so bad *laughs* the actual Smallville wika refuses to consider that earth as Smallville's earth.
Now regarding one major comparison between Smallville and Arrow is Chloe to Felicity Smoak. I have to laugh when people say they are the same character because they are not.
Chloe had character growth by the end of season 4 for becoming more mature and not even willing to sell out her friends for a story with it continuing.
Also, unlike Felicity Smoak, Lana Lang or Iris West is Chloe Sullivan got called out when she messed up or had consequences because of her choices. Jimmy died in season 8, when Clark figured she spied on him for Lionel he was rightfully ticked which she admitted she was wrong, and the show didn't try to portray her as otherwise.
Compared to say Felicity where the only reason they had Felicity admit she was "wrong" about being upset on sending William away was trying due to fan backlash, which they then in the following episode or two show they learned nothing by having Felicity complain like a spoiled brat to William's mother.
And given Felicity Smoak as writer's pet protection, Samantha didn't rip her to shreds.
Plus, unlike Arrowverse is Chloe didn't put the Justice League together or had other hero's introduction episodes be focused on a romance. Chloe's romance with Oliver began long after both were well established, and Bart flirted with Chloe like he would any other woman for about a few minutes max in his first episode.
The episodes consisting of the other heroes had was Clark meeting Bart, Victor, Arthur Curray, and Oliver Queen. Later Green Arrow putting the heroes together as a team. Chloe didn't even become full-time Watchtower until season 8, really into 9 for a full two years after the Justice League was formed.
Meanwhile, Barry's first ever introduction episodes was the Arrow writers playing up the Olicity crap as tried to make it seem Oliver was being a jerk to Barry all out of jealousy. Putting aside Flash 1x01, or the crossover Felicity was the one who crossed over with Flash the most.
It really should have been Oliver, especially in the Captain Cold episode of Flash season 1 who can relate to trust issues way more than Smoak.
Besides, it took the FBI and just then barely to track Chloe down meanwhile Felicity got exposed in Arrow season 1 by a computer tech from SCPD.
Pretty much Felicity became an abusive partner given her relationship with Oliver, hypocritical and a cyber-terrorist who put national security as a member of Helix. Not to mention the constant propping up done by Diggle.
For Lana Lang well like Iris or Felicity, nothing she ever did could be wrong with the whole twisted, screwed-up obsession Clark had towards Lana with spying on her using his telescope is an early version of Barry/Iris.
Obviously, this story is not going to be kind regarding Clark/Lana, Felicity Smoak, or Barry/Iris with Iris.
Regarding the pairings, I'll make two clear of it will be Oliver Queen/Sara Lance and Clark Kent/Chloe Sullivan.
If you don't like the pairing choices or anything else in this story, hit the back button without leaving a review trashing my story.
The whole "Oh I'm a cry baby, this is the internet" is an excuse used by trolls who 99.9% percent of you would never say this stuff to somebody's face in real life. Quite simply I do this as a hobby for free.
Also, for the reviewers, I ask you not slam me with demanding I stick this person in since I'm going for a rather small viewing cast instead of bloating it out.
I will have Clark Kent and Oliver Queen in viewing, however, that is all I'm going to reveal. For the others, you will just have to wait and see.
Regarding the actual viewing episodes will be some of Smallville season 1, and later 5 down the road. Arrow will be the 5 years only, maybe Arrow 1x01, but probably not.
Simply from I don't want to burn myself out on a viewing fic, I'll never finish.
Nothing more to add so onto the actual first chapter.
