Disclaimer: I do not own either RWBY (property of Rooster Teeth) nor The Incredible Hulk (property of Universal Studios).
The logo for Universal Studios came in, along with the theme.
"Now THAT is a logo." declared an excited Nora.
"I too find this logo to be rather appealing." agreed Weiss.
Next came the marvel Studios logo, but with an ominous soundtrack playing.
"And this one has quite the impressive one as well. The title of the studio is quite powerful. Marvel. It's as if by just hearing that name you know that you'll be treated to quite the epic spectacle." Ozpin said.
Katana smirked, "That wasn't always the case, but it most certainly is now." She said.
"Um, guys." Velvet nervously raised her hand, "Has anyone noticed that the music has become rather ominous?" She asked, and it was then that everyone noticed this as well.
"There's no need to worry. It's just the studio's way of letting people know that this movie will be more serious that the others." Was Vein's reassurance.
Then came multiple images of x-rays and other medical related photography, till the title of the movie arrived.
THE INCREDIBLE
HULK
"Dizzying hospital babble aside, that is quite the intro." Spoke Yang, who was quite enraptured by the opening title.
"Yeah, many of those were rather disturbing." was Blake's response.
The scene then changes to that of a lab in the midst of performing an experiment of sorts with one man looking to have volunteered to undergo the test personally.
At first, everything seemed to be going okay, until something went wrong.
A massive hulking back was shown, then the scene changed to its perspective, it charged into the control room, where the female scientist was badly wounded. Two military personnel, a general and soldier by their respective clothing, soon arrived with the soldier opening fire. The general was tossed back with the girl while the soldier was killed with one punch. When the creature looked back at the man greatly injured and gasping at it, it then decided to leave the building while roaring.
"What was that?!" asked a rather shocked Weiss.
Katana answered in a bit of a somber tone, "That, my friends, was the birth of the greatest of Earth's most misunderstood heroes."
"Along with the beginning of a noble man's journey to deal with what could be considered as one of the world's most terrible of curses." added Vein, his usual zaz not present this time.
The scene then changed to a hospital room, with the girls undergoing heavy treatment, the man from the experiment was seen by her side till he was approached by the general, who wasn't happy to see him.
The two had an argument, with the general seemingly showing a bit of hostility towards the man. The woman woke up to see the end of said argument, just as the general had spoken with a soldier. The scene then ended with man leaving the hospital, flooding the screen in bright light as he opened the doors.
"What was that?!" asked a rather angry Yang.
Ironwood responded, "It would seem that the man is being held responsible for the incident at the lab."
"But he wasn't responsible for it!" Ruby tried to reason. "It was a accident, there was no way of knowing that THAT would happen."
"Sorry for interrupting, but this is about more than simply placing the blame on someone. The general here has another reason for being angry at the guy, but you'll just have to continue watching to find out." Vein stopped the fighting with his reasoning. After hearing this, the others decided to simply continue with the movie.
Various newspapers and photos were then shown, talking about the incident at the University's lab along with various sightings of the creature and the destruction that it left behind. Followed by video recordings and reports from military personnel looking for someone who has made off before they could catch him, with medical equipment left behind.
The general was shown spearheading the operation, appearing more invested in finding the 'fugitive' rather than anything else. A computer screen was then shown confirming that someone was granted approval for the commission of a Stark Industries weapon, said weapon being the plans for a military Humvee equipped with a type of cannon on its roof. In the screen along said plans was the logo for S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Oooh, new weapons! I wonder what they can do, do they come in smaller sizes?", Ruby's weapons geek switch was flipped and she started to rant about the possible new weapon and its applications.
"I too am just as curious." Agreed Ironwood, who had already taken pictures of the schematics. "We'll just have to wait till they appear again later in the movie."
The search for the individual continued, with the latest sighting of the man, now identified as Banner, being a report of the interception of his attempt of communication with a Dr. Elizabeth Ross, later revealed to be the woman in the hospital.
As the search continued, it was later revealed that Banner had stopped moving and that he hasn't been seen in 5 months, the general was then seen crestfallen, like a hunter whose prey had gotten away from him.
"Why did he stop moving?" Penny asked.
"When people on the run stop running, it usually means that they have either found a great place to hide or the place they currently inhabit is one where their pursuers will have great difficulty in doing anything." Answered Blake, using her experience in the White Fang to guess Banner's actions.
The screen then changed to a metronome ticking away, with the previous scenes flashing every now and then. It kept on going until Banner stopped it, breathing raggedly and shirtless as he brought the device to him as he sat cross-legged in a room. Letters and numbers then appeared at the right of the screen.
DAYS WITHOUT INCIDENT: 158
"What does it mean by 'without incident'?", asked Jaune.
This time it was Winter's turn to answer, "It means that, either from a military confrontation, or perhaps something with his 'condition', it has been that long since anything bad happened."
The scene then changes to a view of a large neighborhood built on the side of a mountain, overlooking the city below along with the ocean.
ROCINHA FRAVELA – BRAZIL
"In a way, this place reminds me of Minstral." pointed Weiss, who had gone then on business trips with her father.
"Except that it's less of a city and more of a neighborhood." Pointed out Katana.
"Excuse me, but what can you tell us of this place?" asked a curious Ozpin.
Vein just shrugged, "Nothing much except for the carnival."
That got a certain hammer wielder's attention, "CARNIVAL?! As in a party?" She asked, hoping to go there and have some fun.
He smirked, "Oh yeah. It's a party alright. The type of party where, outside of fancy parades, the whole city enjoys a full week's worth of singing, dancing, eating, drinking, and merry-making." he confirmed, remembering the good times he had living it up with the local from time to time.
Nora's jaw dropped at that, then she regained her crazy smile, "AWESOME! Take me there next time. Or I'll BREAK YOUR LEGS!"
"HEY! Don't forget about me." exclaimed Yang, wanting in on the action and getting some exhausted sighs from the rest of her team. [1]
Standing on the roof of a house at the top of the Fravela was Banner looking into the distance. He was then seen making himself a meal and feeding a stray dog that he seems to be keeping.
He then picked up a dictionary while turning on the tv, channel surfing until he ended up at what appears to be an educational program with a blue puppet. He appeared to be watching the show while eating his breakfast and holding the dictionary. When a particular word caught his attention, he looked it up and practiced it, "Hungry."
"Um, what's with the puppet?" asked a confused Qrow.
"That's just an educational kids show from our world. They teach you just about everything a child needs to know in regards to the most basic of information for those starting out in life." explained Katana, remembering her youth when she practically grew up watching those old shows. Vein himself even nodding in agreement.
He was then seen walking down the neighborhood with a cap and a white shirt on till the scene changed to him practicing martial arts.
Banner and his instructor were then sitting cross-legged from one another, "Let's work on your breathing." The instructor said while placing his palm on his chest, "Here, emotion…" he then moved his hand towards is abs, "Fear, no good. So emotion…control."
The two of them then began to perform some breathing exercises while manipulating their diaphragms. "Use your diaphragm." The instructor said before he was then shown using an advanced technique.
"The best way to control your anger is to control your body. Control your pulse." He then told Banner, before slapping him in the face. "Breathe", he instructs Banner and he complies as a sudden beeping is heard. He then slaps him again and Banner does his best to keep it under control as he looks at his wrist watch, revealing it to be a heart monitor.
"Definitely looks like something Yang could use." quipped Ruby, something that all of the other students agreed with, even Qrow nodded.
Yang didn't take it well, "Hey! What's that supposed to mean?" she squawked indignantly.
Her partner just gave her a look, "Yang, the moment someone, even your own sister, even so much as lays a finger on even a small string of your hair...well you tend to..."
"Explode", finished Weiss.
"Yeah, that's it." affirmed Blake.
Yang gave them the Stink Eye.
The scene then changes to a factory where Banner appears to be working at. The massive ungainly bulk of a Third World factory. BANNER enters it with a line of Brazilian laborers.
The rough locker room of the male workers. Dirty walls, old, cracked floors naked bulb. Men pulling gloves and goggles out of lockers, changing shirts, Banner is among them. Four young tough guys are then walking out, with the most boisterous one shoving the other playfully, bumping Banner slightly. They don't apologize but it doesn't matter because he literally doesn't even react.
"Hey, asshole! Watch where you're going!", snapped Yang, angry at the man for purposely bumping into Banner.
"Why doesn't he break his legs?!" asked an equally angry Nora.
Ren was the one who answered this time "Like Blake said before, he's trying to not draw attention to himself. Meaning that he'll just ignore and brush off any attempts at getting a rise from him."
"While such a strategy might work to an extend, it'll just make him more of a target for those who'll what to get a reaction from him." Weiss analyzed, earning a nod from her sister, Ironwood, and even the rest of both her team, JNPR and their seniors.
An enormous sprawling forest of machinery, steam pipes, conveyor belts...all in a huge open floor with a high tin-roof ceiling. A catwalk runs around the perimeter up above and across to the tops of certain of the biggest machines. Banner works in the soda bottling plant. His job is rudimentary, carrying supplies of bottle caps or bottles to the workers who man the massive conveyor belts of bottles moving through the process: GUARANA SODA flowing in from massive tanks, caps being sealed on, labels being applied: "AMAZONA - with Guarana Kick!" A pretty young woman smiles at Banner as he delivers the supplies to her and he smiles back but keeps moving, distant.
The manager suddenly call out for him, "Breakdown, Breakdown." When Banner hears this, he goes up to fix the problem.
The problem in question turns out to be the ON/OFF box for the conveyor belt acting up and spraying out sparks. He opens the box, takes out some glasses and after fixing some frayed wires he tests the device and gets the machine working again.
"I can make it work for a while, but you need, uh..." Banner tries to explain as much as he can about the stop-gap he made, but was having trouble due to not knowing the language very well.
The manager, on the other hand, knew was he was trying to get at and responded with a small joke of his, "I need a new factory."
They both laughed at the joke.
"Five months you've been helping me out like this." He then began as Banner was working on getting the box closed up again. "You're too smart for day labor. Let me put you on payroll."
As Banner was fixing the device, he cut his finger, causing a drop of his blood to fall into the empty bottles in the conveyor belt below.
Seeing this, his expression becomes that of worry, borderline terror as he then runs to the belt while tracking the blood and yelling at the manager to turn the machine off.
"Why is he making such a fuss over a small blood spill?" Qrow asked, confused about the sudden shift in the atmosphere.
"The reason for that will be explained both later down the movie. Trust me when I say that it won't be pretty." was Katana's explanation.
When he had reached the spot where he tracked the spilled blood, he found it and then carefully wiped it clean. He then brought out a small pack of CRAZY GLUE to seal the wound on his finger.
He sighed in relief and motioned for the machine to start up again. As he walked away, he didn't notice that his blood fell on the inside of a bottle, which was then filled with soda (mixing the drink with the blood) and packed to a shipment meant to the U.S.
"Let this be a lesson for you all: ALWAYS make sure that you check EVERYTHING." Ozpin instructed, and everyone present, even the otherworlders, nodded in understanding.
Everyone is then seen leaving the premises, that is until the leader of the tough guys decides to try and hit on the young woman. Despite not wanting anything to do with him, he persists. She then sees Banner stop to look at the situation and she silently pleads for help, but he looks hesitant and then leaves.
"WHAT WAS THAT?!" Snapped Yang, eyes turning red, "you can't just leave her to those guys!"
"If you want to help then then do it!" exclaimed a equally shocked Ruby.
"Like we've been saying, even if he wants to, he can't. He's a wanted man running frim the military and even the Law. Unless he wants them to find him, then he has no other choice than to turn the other way and not draw attention to himself." explained Winter who, while understanding his choice, was also somewhat disappointed.
Blake just looked down in shame at this, remembering how she had to do the same thing and turn a blind eye to the suffering of her fellow Faunus just to make sure that neither the authorities or the White Fang would recognize her.
Seeing as she has no hope, the guy continues to 'woo' her, until Banner returns after deciding that he couldn't just do nothing. He walks up to them with the intent to stop things.
Seeing this, the mood in the room went from somber to joyful.
"Don't read the will just yet." said Qrow with a smirk.
"Martina, do you want to have lunch with me?" he asks in Portuguese.
The man gets annoyed and tries to shoo him away, "Get lost, Gringo."
"'Gringo'? What's that?" Penny innocently tilted her head at that.
Katana was about to answer, but Vein beat her to the punch, "Don't worry Kat, I got this." He reassured her before turning to the rest of the audience, "You see, our world is just as divided, if not more so, than yours. Almost everybody has a way of smack or trash talking each other. 'Gringo' here is just what those from South America use to identify or even sneer at use from the U.S., kinda similar to how you use 'Beast' or even 'animal' to sneer at the Faunus." he explained.
To say that the rest of the audience took it well would be a lie, as many of heir expressions turned sour.
Banner insists and says something, getting the man's attention who then approaches him threatingly "You got a problem?". Banner tried to dissolve the issue before it got out of control, but the man wasn't having any of it.
He tried to use the new words he had picked up, "Don't make me... hungry", but it just confused him.
He wasn't the only one confused, as everyone in the room practically had question marks floating on top of their heads.
He tried again, "You wouldn't like me when I'm... Hungry.", but it just seemed to make them more confused. "No, wait. Oh, that's not right."
"Should've done a better job at looking over the dictionary for the translation." stated Qrow, to which everyone nodded in agreement.
Having had enough of his messing around, he tried to tackle Banner, but was evaded. The manager then took notice and got them all to stop. Banner got Martina out while the boisterous man looked on with a promise of payback when the chance came.
The scene then changed back to the outside, with Banner talking to someone about something, but it seemed that the conversation didn't go the way he wanted. That is until the man smiled and pulled something out of his pocket and gave it to him. When Banner saw this, he was shocked, then he became so happy that he gave the man a hug.
"Must've been quite the package to have him this excited.", commented Qrow.
"I agree with you there. This must be quite the important delivery." answered Ironwood.
Vein just gave a knowing smirk, "Oh, you have no idea. Just watch, and at the very least have of the mystery will be solved."
After hearing this, everyone present gave the screen their undivided attention.
Banner is then seen rushing to his home, "You see that? You see that? Our ticket out of here." He told the dog as he took a back pack from under his bed and began to open it at a table with a microscope. The contents were revealed to be a small laptop and a portable satellite dish along with a picture of the woman from the experiment. He then began to set up what appeared to be an encrypted conversation with someone named Mr. Blue.
"Blue, are you there?" Banner asked as he was opening up the package.
He responded, "Mr. Green! Good hearing from you again, my mysterious friend."
"I've found it." responded Banner.
"At long last. It's a lovely little flower, isn't it?" responded Mr. Blue.
Banner then revealed a white flower.
"A flower?" asked Coco incredulously. "All of that hype, for a flower?!"
Again, Ozpin was the voice of reason this time around, "I suggest that we keep watching. Like our patrons have said, the answers that we seek may be answered in this scene."
After listening to his reasoning they all opted to return their attention to the movie.
Mr. Blue then ended the conversation, "Be sure to try a high dose. Good luck :)"
Banner was then seen using archaic techniques in conjunction with store bought and hand made lab equipment to synthesize a serum from the flower.
"Perhaps it would do us good to add wilderness survival training to their curriculum." Whispered Ozpin to his fellow teachers, to which they all nodded in agreement.
He then drawed a drop of his blood to test the results of the concoction. Using the microscope to see the results, he saw that the red-blood cells, which had grotesque green warts growing on them and twitching, begin to return to normal. That is until a few moments later when they suddenly turned green and bulged up, breaking the glass.
When he saw this, he was frustrated, like this wasn't the first time this had happened.
Seeing this, everyone had a look of both shock and horror for what they had just bore witness to.
"What was that?" Velvet asked timidly.
Katana had a rather somber look on her face, before she answered, "Like we told you, after the incident, this man was cursed with a condition that he has spent a great deal of time trying to cure. But to this day, he has yet to find an answer as to how to deal with it." She said in a subdued voice, and while she knows that things will get better by the end of the series, it is still rather sad what Banner had to endure before he got to that point.
Vein placed his arm on her shoulder for comfort, letting her know that she wasn't the only one with this feeling.
"Another failure", was his message.
":( How much did you use?" asked Mr. Blue.
After looking at the now petaless flower sadly, Banner answered, "All of it."
"Then it's time to meet." Responded Mr. Blue.
Banner had a reluctant expression before answering back. "Not safe".
"Living with GAMMA poisoning is not safe." was Mr. Blue's response, "Stop chasing flowers. Send me a blood-sample".
Banner still looked reluctant, "I can't help you if you won't let me", after that and a look at the picture of the woman, he made his decision.
"Let this be a lesson for all of you: It doesn't matter how tuff things might be, how badass you may think you are, or even what your reasons may be, in the end there are just some things that you can't deal with on your own. Sooner or later, even the 'strongest' guy on the planet will have to ask for help when it comes to taking care of obstacles that even he can't tackle." Vein then gave out a surprisingly wise piece of advice while pointingly looking at both Ozpin and Blake.
Upon noticing this, Ozpin got the feeling that he was aware of things he thought no one was supposed to be aware of and decided to thread more carefully around him. Blake, on the other hand, thought that he was referring to her situation with the White Fang, and while a part of her didn't want to admit it, she knew deep down that she'll eventually have to face her demons, along with the fact that she'll eventually have to let the others help he when the time comes (even though she fears what the outcome might be).
The scene then changed to him filling a tube with his own blood, placing his screen name in it and securing it for postal delivery to Mr. Blue in New York. After dropping it off at the post office he then stood on the street, wondering it things will work out.
"So, any thoughts?" Katana asked.
"Other than that bit at the beginning, I have to admit that it was quite the informative experience.", Pyrrha said as nicely as possible.
"Could've used some more action." Nora grumbled.
"No need to worry then, 'cuz the next scene's gonna have enough action to satisfy both your cravings and curiosity.", Vein assured the hyperactive hammer-wielder.
"Still, that thing in his blood, what was it?" Ren asked, both curious and worried about what was shown in Banner's blood.
"Like I told your girlfriend, you just have to wait and see.", the vampire then decided to answer while throwing in a trolling joke their way. And going by the redness on their faces, it would seem that it worked.
"Wha-", Ren stuttered, being completely caught off guard.
"Wait a minute, we're-", Nora tried to deny it, but he wasn't done yet.
"Together, then you should've found yourselves a lover by now.", Vein said, "That is, of course, unless you've been scaring away any would be candidates away without anyone else being the wiser?".
When he finished the two of them were practically giving off steam from how embarrassed they were.
"Please forgive him, he like to troll people every now and then." Katana apologized for his behavior.
"It's Ok, keeps things lively." Qrow brushed it off, feeling like he and the 'blood-sucker' were going to get along just fine.
"As much as I would like to continue poking the hornet's nest with you guys, I'm afraid that I have a schedule to keep, believe it or not." Vein said, "And no Katana, I can't tell you, at least not until we finish this." He then stopped her before she could even say anything.
Knowing that he won't talk until thing are finished she decided to play the next scene.
