This is my first Thunderbirds Are Go! story. I wasn't sure about this series at first, but while the characters are slightly different due to the series being made in a different time frame, it's exciting so far.

Enjoy. And yes, I do plan on writing more.

You can't choose your family.

Grandma Tracy's words ringing in her head while she admired the new Thunderbird S - she was just itching to get into the cockpit and taking the new addition to the Thunderbird fleet out for a spin - Kayo knew the older woman was right. One day she would have to confess to the brothers the truth of her connection with the Hood. She only wished she didn't; the Tracy brothers despised the master criminal, not just because of his sick plans and the way he had come up with scheme after scheme in order to draw out and destroy International Rescue from within and plunder the secrets of the high-tech equipment the brothers used to rescue those in need whereas to the Hood people who were suffering were either dismissed as a means to an end or just collateral damage, but on a more personal reason.

The Hood was responsible for the death/disappearance of Jeff Tracy, the man who had founded International Rescue with his sons. The man who had taken Kayo in when her own father had died, another victim in the Hoods' never-ending and pointless crusade to gain wealth and power.

Kayo was not looking forward to confessing to the boys that particular secret; she had no idea of what their reaction could be; the boys were quite emotional and their vendetta to the Hood spilt dangerously close to complete and unfiltered hatred. Would they turn on her, forgetting all of their years together, the times that she had gone out with them on rescues and all of that? Would they throw her to the wolves over this?

That was the reason she hadn't said a word to them, and it was the reason why she had shut off the commlink between her and John so he wouldn't overhear what was happening and what the Hood said.

As she took a final walk around Thunderbird S before she got into the cockpit, Kayo wondered who else in International Rescue knew of her connection to the Hood; she wasn't surprised Jeff Tracy had known since she knew he had been friendly with the Hood once upon a time before being betrayed by the bastard. Grandma Tracy was a stretch, but Kayo guessed it made sense since the woman had become like a mother to her long ago, but who else.

Lady Penelope was a possible prospect, as was Parker; from what she had heard, Penelope had been investigating the Hood a long time ago. It was possible she had discovered the connection, but even if she didn't was it a good idea to confide in the woman about this matter? Kayo trusted Penny, she really did, but she didn't want the woman to turn against her as well.

Kayo sometimes thought about her relation to the Hood, and she wished she didn't. She hated being reminded of how she was the bastards' niece, but you could not choose your family. If she could then her father would never be related to the bastard. A good man and so many others wouldn't be dead, and she would not be related to him herself.

Sadly, she could not choose her blood family. Kayo liked to believe the family was what you made it, but it was sometimes so hard to keep that in mind with the frequent reminders of the Hood's connection with her, the way he had taunted her earlier in the same way Luke Skywalker was tempted when Darth Vader revealed his true identity at the end of the Empire Strikes Back although the difference there was she knew what the Hood would likely do.

He didn't care about family. Whereas the Tracy brother did, that gave her hope.
