Sadly I don't own Stargate. Please feel free to read my other stories, and please let me know what you think.

Unwanted Disclosure.

The Goa'uld System Lord Apophis's attack against Earth was one of the worst moments in human history; not only did it reveal to the population of Earth aliens existed and the galaxy was full of hostile alien life forms, but millions of people were also wiped out by the Goa'uld's savage, unrelenting attack in retaliation for the Stargate Program's numerous skirmishes with his Goa'uld forces, it revealed to the public in general what the United States Air Force was doing in Cheyenne Mountain with the Stargate, and that people had been venturing out into the galaxy, starting conflicts and earning the ire of the Goa'uld. The System Lord had brought four motherships to attack the Earth with the intention of bombing the major population areas and weakening the planet, decimating the military installations around the Earth, while setting up landing sites across the planet for the invasion forces, and from there the planet would be inducted forcefully into the Goa'uld Empire. Apophis had wanted to make the humans pay the price for undermining the Goa'uld, and in a way, he succeeded in some of his aims.

Earth was saved thanks to the actions of SG1, the flagship team who had discovered the plans to invade Earth and had disobeyed orders to ensure that Apophis failed. The team had been forewarned of the attack by Dr Jackson, who had accidentally travelled to a parallel world where Earth was caught in the midst of a terrible Goa'uld attack, despite the archaeologist's reckless attitude in touching a piece of advanced alien technology without considering the dangers. The archaeologist had not expected to be believed, and he had not expected the Goa'uld to launch an attack in the same manner, but he had been horrified by the Goa'uld's attack to warn Stargate Command of the risks.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of common sense and intelligence of the American government who were more concerned with keeping the Stargate buried and putting all faith into untried weapons against aliens who possessed superior technology, the program was shut down. This decision was aided and abetted by Senator Kinsey, who had his own political agenda. It was only due to the team disobeying orders that Earth was saved, although many would criticise them for believing that.

The moment Apophis and his fleet entered the solar system they launched their attack. Wave after wave of fighters was sent towards Earth, and they were joined by their larger brethren while the larger motherships bombed the cities from orbit, while Earth's defences were completely ineffective, and the Naquadah-enhanced nuclear weapons did no good at all. The only reason the invasion ended was that SG1 with a Jaffa ally were able to transport explosives to the ships before they could cause more damage.

While Apophis was able to escape, the majority of his invasion force was destroyed and the Earth was saved, but the United States government were forced to reveal the truth of what they had been doing. The USA was harshly criticised for their arrogance in keeping the Stargate to itself; many countries were furious with the way the USAF had recklessly endangered the lives of the entire world against an alien power who would destroy them simply because the Americans had gone out into the galaxy to take their history of manifest destiny out and enforce it onto the universe. Dr Elizabeth Weir was one of many Americans who harshly criticised her own country for taking on the role of galactic enforcer without consultation with other countries while keeping everything they had learnt to themselves.

Countries from around the world hammered in demands for the USA to pay for the damage caused by the invasion, but at the same time, the United Nations was forced to look to the bigger issues when they learnt enough about the Goa'uld. Senator Kinsey once more tried to order the Stargate program to be cancelled and the gate itself buried, but his arguments didn't hold water since if the Goa'uld could attack Earth once, they could do it again.

Kinsey was further criticised for caring more about America than about the rest of the world and putting his political ambitions ahead of his common sense. He was savagely thrown into reality - the Stargate was not going to be buried and forgotten. It was their first line of defence against the Goa'uld.

They forced the Stargate to be moved to a different location, where the military forces from around the world could form an elite with scientists from other nations in order to make studies of what was in the galaxy when dozens of scientific minds across the world expressed interest in going out into the galaxy to explore the various worlds opened up to them, despite the danger of the Goa'uld. The United Nations softened the blow to the former Stargate teams by bringing them onto the new program due to their experience.

While the arrangements were being made, the United Nations realised how close to the edge of extinction or even slavery they had nearly come close to, but there was a silver lining to the loss of life and the devastation across the Earth. Humanity was now aware of life existing on other worlds, and how many hostile beings existed in the galaxy, and that humans had antagonised them.

When they were ready the new Stargate exploration teams were sent out 3 years after the initial attack on Earth; while they had captured Goa'uld technology and scientists were working around the clock to understand how it worked, there was a strong desire to gain new technologies. The United Nations were also interested in discovering new worlds to colonise, if the Goa'uld or any other race wanted to wipe them out then it was logical for Earth to have colonies to safeguard human civilisation. In the meantime, there were plans to develop new ships based on Goa'uld technology, but it was hoped they would find other examples of alien hardware to study.

When there was a rematch against the Goa'uld, they wanted to be ready.
