A/N: Here we go again, but this time with some help from Greatkingrat88 I think I got it. Speaking of whom I want to thank him for his beta work and improvements on the chapter.
Unlike my previous attempts at a Kingdom Hearts crossover, I pre-made up to four chapters so far at the time of this posting.
I decided to delete the old version because it was underperforming when compared to my newer stories. I wasn't pleased with how it turned out, especially when my improvements in writing has revealed a lot of flaws with the chapter I overlooked.
This time I held back and made some chapters in advance before posting, but I will mention Captain Imagnat reviewing my other stories with the same request to update the KH story had the opposite effect. It only hardened my decision to delete it and replace it feeling nothing but disappointment for it.
I won't spend too long on this author note and I'll save the rest for the author note at the end.
I hope you'll enjoy this better version, a little slower start but after a few chapters there will be some pay off.
Enjoy the chapter.
Chapter 1
The Awakening
Huh!?
Awakening to find himself falling through an empty abyss, the young man was alarmed to find he couldn't move. He struggled against the unseen power holding him in place, but his body failed to respond. He tried to speak but his lips wouldn't move, and he almost panicked.
His mind scrambled to understand what was happening. After some time a light shone upon his face, piercing the darkness. His fall began to slow as he drew close to the light. As he came closer, he could see that it was a platform with a colorful stained glass surface. He was set upright, and regained full control of his body once both feet were standing upon the platform.
"Where am I!?" The young man shouted, suddenly able to speak again.
At first there was no response, but suddenly a voice spoke directly into his mind.
"There is little time, yet so much to do," it said.
"Who are you!?"
"My name isn't important," the voice replied. "However, you must prepare for what lies ahead. The power you have is ready to be awakened."
"What are you talking about? Let me out of this place!"
"Then you must awaken the power within. The universe has fallen out of balance. Calamity will soon come to your world," the voice said, sounding desperate.
Looking around the young man- Lelouch Lamperouge- saw no wat to escape. Reluctantly, he acknowledged he had little choice. He would have to go along with whatever the voice wanted if he wished to leave.
"What do I have to do?" Lelouch asked.
"Chose how your power shall take form."
Three pedestals materialized before Lelouch, each one two feet apart. Upon each black pedestal was a weapon. To Lelouch's left was a sword with a golden handle, in the middle a mage's staff, and finally on his right was a shield.
"I suppose I have to pick one?"
Lelouch got no response, so he stepped forward to inspect each weapon. As he approached the sword, the voice echoed once more in his mind.
"The power of the warrior. Invincible courage. A sword of terrible destruction."
"I don't see myself as much of a warrior," Lelouch said, turning to inspect the staff.
"The power of the mystic. Inner strength. A staff of wonder and ruin."
"That might be a better fit," Lelouch thought out loud.
Before coming to a decision, Lelouch inspected the shield.
"The power of the guardian. Kindness to aid friends. A shield to repel all."
"It wouldn't be my first choice as a weapon, but a shield is practical to have in some situations."
Having weighed his choices, Lelouch took the staff.
"You chose the power of the mystic; is this the form you choose?"
"Yes," Lelouch replied.
"Choose which power to give up."
After some contemplation Lelouch picked the sword. The magic staff would be a sufficient weapon.
"You have chosen the form of your power. Now the door ahead shall open."
Lelouch was confused, but he soon saw a wooden double door with Golden lining materialize where the weapon pedestals were. Stepping behind it, Lelouch saw nothing. Perplexed, he opened the door. To his surprise the door opened to a different platform than the one he was on.
Upon stepping through the door, Lelouch exited onto another platform, but here the stained glass surface displayed a young woman. She appeared to be around his age, with short, black hair and purple eyes, wearing a type of dark green pilot suit. Behind her was a dark green and gray humanoid machine, armed with some kind of assault rifle-like weapon. There was a shattered moon above her, and what seemed to be meteors falling.
I've never seen such a machine before. Is she its pilot?
Had she been a pilot during an apocalyptic event of some kind? But before he could speculate any further, his thoughts were interrupted.
"Now you can fight, but beware of the shadows behind you."
"What?" Lelouch said, looking over his shoulder.
Emerging from the ground was a small humanoid creature. It was half Lelouch's height, its back hunched over. It had inky dark skin, glowing yellow eyes, and antennas on its heads. Following the first creature, five more of them emerged to confront Lelouch. Although they did not speak, the creatures radiated hostile intent. Raising the staff, Lelouch prepared defend himself. Suddenly, it began to glow.
The staff transformed into what could be described as a hybrid between a sword and a key. Its handle was black, with a sliver chain dangling from the end with a black heart token. Its blade was shaped after an old-fashioned key with crown-shaped teeth.
"What is this?"
Lelouch didn't have time to await a reply, as the dark creatures advanced upon him. Swinging his newly awakened Keyblade, Lelouch struck down one of the creatures, and its body evaporated into nothing. The next one tried to pounce on Lelouch, but he side-stepped the creature before killing it in retaliation. The clumsy movements of the creatures made their movements easy to predict, allowing Lelouch to stay ahead of them despite not being in top physical shape.
If they surround me, I am finished, Lelouch thought.
He realized these creatures were that much of a threat individually, but in groups it was a different story. They likely preferred attacking in a group to surround and overwhelm their prey with numbers. With this in mind, Lelouch kept an eye on his surroundings. He kept moving and attacking the dark creatures in retaliation, slowly eliminating them one by one until none remained. As soon as the last creature vanished, Lelouch dropped to one knee, exhausted. He was not used to this kind of physical exercise.
"That's the last of them," Lelouch said to himself.
Suddenly the platform shattered, sending him plummeting into the dark abyss. He cried out in panic, but within moments another platform appeared in the vast darkness. The same unseen power from before slowed Lelouch's fall as he came near the platform.
As he approached, Lelouch noticed the platform's stained-glass surface was another portrait of a young girl. She seemed older than Lelouch by a year or two. She stood with a snowy countryside behind her with roses decorating the edges. The girl herself had long brown hair and green eyes, wearing a blue and plum attire with a black vest and a plum cloak.
"Always remember: the closer you are to the light, the longer your shadow shall grow."
From Lelouch's shadow, a creature akin to those Lelouch had slain just before began to emerge. Unlike those creatures, this new being towered over him by eight meters, muscular and broad.
Lelouch tried to find a way to escape, but there was nowhere to run. As panic began to set in, Lelouch dodged an attack from the creature as it slammed its fist into the ground, trying to crush him. Seeing he had few options, Lelouch attacked the feet of the monster hoping he could cripple it. It was a desperate gambit, but he had no other options.
Ignoring his exhaustion, Lelouch struck before following up his first hit with another. Using his drive to survive to push forward, he kept hitting the creature's feet until it stumbled forward when it tried to reach for him. The damage Lelouch inflicted at just the right moment caused it to fall onto the platform. He had just barely gotten out of the way in time to avoid being crushed. It didn't disintegrate like the others, so Lelouch assumed it was still alive.
Deciding to strike a more vital spot, Lelouch ran for its head, hoping to strike a fatal blow. Without wasting a moment, he came down with one blow after another, but none of them seemed to do much damage. After a dozen frantic hits, Lelouch was grabbed by the recovering monster, but he still had his arm with the Keyblade free. As he was lifted up, Lelouch kept stabbing the hand in an effort to get free.
When his attacks didn't work, Lelouch hurled his weapon at the monster in a final, desperate act. The creature's head was pierced by the thrown Keyblade, although given the distance between his head and hand, Lelouch was almost certain it was going to fail. The monster released its grip on Lelouch, but the creature began falling towards him as its body was beginning to break down. Lelouch tried to hurry and get away, but there was no time.
"Remember, you are a focal point between light and darkness. You can restore the balance!"
The creature fell onto Lelouch.
With a cry, Lelouch awoke on the floor of his own room. He untangled himself from his beddings, having rolled out of his own bed. Looking around the room, he saw no monsters, key blades or stained glass. It had all been a dream, if a strange and intense one.
"That was bizarre," Lelouch muttered. But then, he noticed something near his hand.
Unburying it from his bedding, Lelouch's jaw dropped when he held up the Keyblade he had summoned. He was left completely speechless. What happened in that dream was real.
Elsewhere, another young man was beginning to wake from a similar dream. He was a young boy of fourteen, with spiky brown hair and blue eyes. He had been slumbering beneath the shade of a palm tree. Unlike Lelouch, his dream didn't send him tumbling out of bed, but having chosen to take a nap along the shore of a tiny island, it left him open to be surprised. As he leaned back to lay down again, the boy came face to face with a girl with blue eyes and auburn hair. She was the same age as he was, but she had more of a light teasing side to her.
"Whoa," Sora said sitting back up in surprise. "Give me a break, Kairi."
Kairi laughed at Sora's shock. It was his own fault for allowing himself to be caught off guard.
"Sora, you lazy bum. I knew I would find you snoozing around here."
"Hey, I was facing this giant black-thing, and it tried to shallow me up and-" Sora said before Kairi playfully interrupted him with a light bonk on the head.
"Are you still dreaming?"
"It wasn't a dream," Sora said. Doubt started to set in. "Or was it?"
"Yeah, sure," Kairi said before she walked closer to the ocean water.
"Say Kairi, what was your hometown like?"
"I told you before, I don't remember," Kairi replied.
Unlike Sora, who had been born on the Destiny Islands, Kairi was an orphan who had simply appeared one day. Their small world consisted of some islands scattered across a mostly ocean planet, but some believed there were worlds beyond their small world. Others still did not take these myths seriously, but some did, like Sora. Especially since Kairi had appeared out of nowhere, and no one knew where she came from. She was only five when she was found and adopted by the mayor, so it was no surprise she couldn't remember much of her time before, other than her name.
"Nothing at all?" Sora asked.
"Nothing," Kairi replied as she continued to stare out at the horizon.
"Did you ever what to go back?"
"Well, I am happy here, but I wouldn't mind going back to see it."
"I would like to see it too," Sora said, turning around to look her in the eye. "Along with any other worlds out there, I want to see them all."
"Yeah," Kairi said in agreement.
"Hey," a young man of fifteen called out, approaching them carrying a wooden log.
He had silver hair and green eyes, wearing in blue pants with a yellow-sleeveless shirt. While he was relaxed, he was mildly annoyed and amused with Sora and Kairi.
"Did you two forget about me? Does that mean I am the only one working on the raft?"
Riku walked towards Kairi, tossing the log he had been carrying for Sora to catch.
"And you are just as lazy as he is," Riku said to Kairi.
"You noticed?" Kairi replied with a chuckle. "Okay, so we'll finish it together. I'll race you two!"
"Huh," Sora said resting the wooden log next to him.
"Are you kidding?" Riku said sitting on the ground near Sora.
"Ready, set, go," Kairi said. Sora and Riku both leapt up to their feet and began running. Kairi followed along behind them, but little did any of them know their days on Destiny Island were close to an end.
Later that day, Lelouch went to find somebody who could help him understand the strange weapon he had awoken with. Finding something to carry it in was difficult, but Lelouch had obtained a suitably sized duffle bag. He knew the man he was about to see could hopefully answer his question, but Lelouch was hesitant about visiting him; he was very odd.
Arriving at the Tokyo University, Lelouch made his way to the Metallurgical Analysis Lab. After exiting the elevator, Lelouch approached a desk where a black-haired receptionist sat, working a computer.
"Pardon me, but I am here to see Professor Ian Zagger. I had called for an appointment earlier," Lelouch said politely.
"Just one sec," the woman replied.
A moment later she pushed a button on desk, signaling the professor.
"Ah, welcome my boy. So what is that you have brought me," Professor Zagger said, emerging from his office dressed in a black suit.
Despite being old, in his late eighties, Ian Zagger was impressively energetic for his age. His white hair, yellow eyes and overall exuberance presented an almost grandfatherly figure, but Lelouch knew better than most that a devious and highly intelligent mind was hidden behind that smile.
"It's unusual for certain," Lelouch said, shaking the professor's hand.
"Then let's step into my office to talk more."
Once inside his office, Lelouch pulled out the Keyblade. As Professor Zagger examined the weapon, Lelouch told the older man about what had happened last night.
"I know it sounds crazy to put it lightly," Lelouch said as he finished telling his story.
"My boy, if you were anyone else I would've called you crazy," Professor Zagger said. "However, I know you better than that, and you haven't been the only person curious about a weapon like this."
"What do you mean?"
"I shouldn't tell you, but I'll say it anyway. What I am about to tell you cannot leave this room. I know you aren't one for unwanted attention," Ian cautioned.
"Of course," Lelouch said, intrigued.
"Lately, Britannia has been interested in learning more about these Keyblades, apparently."
"What makes you say that?"
"Well," Professor Zagger said, gesturing to his computer screen, "your weapon is identical to one recently uncovered in ruins in the Middle East, specifically a city dating back to Mesopotamia around 3100 BC. It was around time human civilization began to develop."
Ian showed Lelouch images of what appeared to be an impressively preserved temple, that seemingly had been buried underground for over five thousand years.
Switching to the next image, Lelouch was shown various ancient drawings and cravings, which depicted warriors wielding key-like swords against one another. It seemed the drawings depicted some kind of war; towns were burning, and armies were marching.
"Hard to imagine the Emperor taking an interest in this."
"True," Ian agreed, shrugging. "But your father, despite being an undeniably horrible parent, has always been pragmatic, which is reflected in his rule as Emperor."
Lelouch seethed with anger at the mention of Charles zi Britannia, his father. Even if that was true, he hated the blood link he shared with the man who cast him and his crippled sister to a foreign land he would declare war upon months later. Of course, Lelouch knew Professor Zagger would push his buttons like this; he seemed to enjoy his reactions. He could be condescending at times due to his considerable intellect, having obtained six doctorates.
"I assume I shouldn't worry about the Office of Secret Intelligence listening in on us?"
"No," The Professor replied with a grin while folding his arms over his chest. "Because the Emperor has put them under my command with regards to this matter. You can relax."
"I see."
Lelouch sometimes questioned his friendship with the Professor, but he knew having a positive relationship with someone who had an ear to the highest levels of Britannian command could be useful. After all, it was thanks to the Professor's impressive connections that the siblings had been declared legally dead. Enabling them to stay with the Ashford Foundation, their mother's former allies, for protection. The Professor could get on his nerves sometimes, but his connections and knowledge of events among the Royal Family would no doubt prove invaluable to Lelouch in the future. More so since Lelouch had managed to build a better rapport with the Professor than the current leader of the Ashford Family.
"If I learn anything if use in regards to that weapon I'll let you know," The professor offered. "In the meantime, I can arrange for a day we can use the lad to see what that weapon is made out of."
"A day where we could have the lab to ourselves, you mean?"
"Exactly. But for now, tell no one of the Keyblade," Ian warned.
"I'll take this as a sign I should leave, then," Lelouch said, stepping away from the computer.
"For now, until we can have the lab to ourselves," Ian said, showing Lelouch out.
"Hopefully I'll see you again soon."
"Maybe. Take it easy."
"I will," Lelouch said, as he finished putting away the Keyblade in his duffle bag.
"If I learn anything of interest, I'll contact you." Said the professor.
"I would appreciate it," Lelouch said as Ian opened the door for the young man.
As Lelouch walked away, Ian gave a flippant hand wave. He closed the door behind him. A sinister smile appeared on Ian's face.
"Finally, that bloodline produced a Keyblade wielder."
Around the same time in another corner of the world, a meeting was taking place within the Pendragon Royal Palace, where the Emperor of Britannia resided. Within a private meeting room, to which all access was sealed, with armed guards standing outside with orders to kill anyone who dared attempt to interrupt the meeting within.
Inside the dimly lit room stood a towering man with purple eyes and white hair styled into Renaissance-style curls. Despite his advanced age, he projected an air of absolute authority and cold indifference to most, even his own family. Emperor Charles zi Britannia was looking upon a paper, a treaty, laid upon the table before him.
"So your majesty, do we have a deal?"
The man who spoke was younger than Charles, in his late twenties with red hair and amber eyes. He wore a black coat and matching fedora, but under the eccentric style in fashion and mannerisms Charles knew there was a player to be reckoned with. Ardyn Izunia, a man come from far away with an irresistible bargain.
"We have a deal," Charles said, signing the treaty.
"Wonderful," the man with fedora said, clapping his hands together. "The Supreme Commander will be pleased. We shall begin delivery immediately."
"Then we can work towards bringing the rest of the world under our rule," Charles said with a thin smile.
Watching the treaty signing and protecting the Emperor was an intimidating man of considerable stature, wearing a white cape and uniform beneath it. He had black hair, a tanned complexion and one eye sewn shut. Bismarck Waldstein, the Knight of One and Charles's personal bodyguard, was feared as the strongest Knight of the Empire, and he had the skills to for that title.
Across the room, standing behind Ardyn was a man who appeared to be the same age. However, despite having some human features the man was anything but. He wore black armor upon his arms and legs and parts of his chest and lower jaw. A fur-lined cape lined the man's shoulder. His skeleton was visible through a blue translucent skin seen upon his chest and lower jaw. His only human features were his red eyes, black hair and pale skin around his eyes. Bismarck's instincts told him that man was dangerous, and he kept his guard up. Even through the inhuman being has not moved his hand to his sword throughout the meeting.
He hasn't said a single word or anything, Bismarck commented internally.
"I trust the shipments will have all we'll need?"
"Absolutely," Ardyn assured with a nod. "Plenty of new toys and technology."
"Yes, although it will take time for your gifts to be introduced and integrated into the military."
"Of course. And should you need anything, my friends and I will be happy to provide."
Charles remained wary, but if this arrangement allowed him to quicken his goals with the possibility of expanding them, then such a deal would be worth it in the long run.
Later that evening at Ashford Academy; Lelouch had returned home. At present he was sitting at the dining room table next to a young girl of fourteen, with long sandy brown hair. Her eyes were closed due to trauma-induced blindness, and she was confined to an electric wheelchair. Despite her disabilities, the girl was infectiously kind to those around, the opposite of her ice prince brother.
"How was your day, Nunnally?" asked Lelouch.
"Today was wonderful. Miss Sayoko taught me how to make origami. By folding paper in certain ways, you can make flowers, birds and boats."
"That's wonderful."
"She also said if you make a thousand of them, they can grant you wish," Nunnally explained before asking. "Is there something you wish for, brother?"
"Not really, but what about you?"
Nunnally brought one finger to her chin as she contemplated an answer.
"I wish the world would be a gentler place."
"I am sure by the time you regain your eye sight, it will be."
"Really?"
"Yes, it will," Lelouch replied.
I'll make sure of it.
Outside the academy, the streets surrounding the grounds were abnormally quiet. Even more unusual was the black portal opening, as a figure wearing a black leather cloak stepped out. It had silver strings and a zipper that masked the wearer's identity and gender. In one hand she held a book with a green cover, a pair of black horns poking out from the top of her hood.
Upon exiting the portal, the shadows around her began to come to life as over a dozen Heartless began to take shape.
"What are you planning?"
The cloaked figure turned to see another portal open as a young man with black hair and dark eyes stepped out. He wore black robes with a white toga mixed in. His youthful appearance was deceptive; he had hundreds of years worth of knowledge and power.
"I am here under orders," the cloaked person replied with the light voice of a woman.
"Did the Supreme Commander order it?" said the young-looking man.
"No, the Architect did."
"Him," the young man asked. Then, realization dawned upon him. "I understand now. So a Keyblade wielder has been found?"
"Yes, and we both know on this world he will have no chance to develop his skill."
"So this means he isn't suited to join those we have recruited?"
"The Supreme Commander and the Architect spoke about it and agreed he would be better served opposing us- or rather Britannia, since I've learned Emperor Charles has agreed to our treaty."
"That explains why you are wearing a black cloak. Not just to hide our involvement in this attack from Britannia, but for whoever has the Keyblade to not recognize you because of where he is going."
"That's right. He'll meet my past self in due time, which would cause unneeded confusion."
"I understand, then I'll assist you by ensuring the magic barrier you placed over the school stays up. I'll help you modify the memories of the survivors when it's over. I assume you came properly prepared to create a cover story?"
"Of course, Lord Zeref," the woman replied, clapping her hands together. At her command, additional dark portals opened up. From one portal came men wearing tattered clothing, carrying assault rifles, while others wore damaged military uniforms. What they shared in common was their skin was a unhealthy gray, their bodies bearing bullet holes and other injuries that never healed. The undead Japanese and Chinese soldiers walked out of the portal, heading into Ashford Academy accompanied by the Heartless.
"Carry on, Lady Thrasir," Zeref Dragneel said as the last portal unleashed several tall machines. They were almost six meters tall with a dome-shaped body, having small legs with wheels and arms with weapons attached to them. It was the TQ-19 Gun-Ru, the Knightmare Frame created by the Chinese Federation in response to the RPI-11 Glasgow created by Britannia. When introduced, the RPI-11 Glasgow demolished most of Japan's ground forces during the war, driving the other nations of the world to innovate.
The number of Gun-Ru machines were few, at least six, but Zeref believed they would be more than enough to convince everyone the attack on Ashford Academy would be blamed upon a resistance group backed by the Chinese Federation.
Instead of human pilots, the Gun-Rus were possessed by Heartless, causing the machines to adopt more animalistic characteristics that made their movements beyond what a normal Knightmare Frame could do. Zeref wasn't a fan of the bloodshed about to take place, but he knew it was a tragic necessity.
Unaware of the danger, Lelouch and Nunnally had finished eating dinner. Their maid and caretaker Sayoko was busy with the dishes, while Nunnally was listening to the radio in the study. Lelouch was in his room, examining his Keyblade. He was trying to decide on how he could best understand it. Inspecting it, he marveled at how light it felt, despite being made out of metal.
How can I begin to understand something like this? It is valuable to Britannia, but how can it be of use to me?
Lelouch waved the weapon around, trying to see if he could do something, but stopped when he saw energy form near the tip of the weapon. Curious, but cautious since Lelouch didn't want to do anything more that could blow up the room or something that would draw attention.
Maybe I should find a place to experiment a little on my own. Some place remote.
Suddenly, the sound of gunfire and screaming outside snapped him out of his reveries. He had the curtains to his room closed, and he did not risk recklessly opening them. Instead, he moved it just enough for any outside observe to not notice any movement, looking outside.
It was something he never would have expected. The academy was under siege. Lelouch saw men, presumably terrorists and foreign soldiers, the latter of which was definitely not something he would have expected. Even worse, he caught a glimpse of a Chinese Federation Gun-Ru patrolling the academy grounds. It didn't seem to be taking part in the attack; more likely it would engage the police's Knightmare Frames to bar their interference.
Lelouch could question why they were attacking, but right now those questions could come later. He knew he and his sister were in serious danger so escape was their priority.
"Master Lelouch!" Sayoko cried outside his door, frantically knocking.
"I know, Sayoko," Lelouch said hurrying to the door to unlock it.
Outside his room he met Sayoko, their maid. In her arms was Nunnally, the young girl clearly alarmed and afraid.
"They seem to be attacking the dorms for now, but they have Knightmare Frames surrounding this place!"
"What are we going to do, brother?" Nunnally wailed in fear.
"We'll use the elevator in the main campus building to escape into the waterways below the academy," Lelouch said, beckoning Sayoko to follow him. "We must move quickly before they get to the main campus building!"
The trio was spared the worst of the attacks thanks to Lelouch and his sister living in the Student Council Clubhouse. Sayoko took notice of the strange weapon in Lelouch's hand, but decided not to question it.
They used the service entrance. Thankfully they didn't encounter any trouble outside, but upon entering the inside, the group saw a lone student with brown hair desperately running away.
"SOMEONE HELP ME!" he cried.
Before Sayoko or Lelouch could do anything, the student's body went limp as his eyes rolled back. Falling forward, Lelouch saw a Heartless having stuck its hand into the back of the unfortunate student. Seconds later it pulled something out without a single drop of blood, a glowing, heart-shaped object. Closing its clawed hand around it, the heart vanished, the student's body vanishing with it. In his place, another Heartless materialized.
"What is that thing!?" said Sayoko, disturbed.
Lelouch did not have time to attempt to explain, especially since he knew very little about them too. However, the two Heartless began to advance upon them, Lelouch knew he had to take action.
"GET AWAY FROM HER!" he shouted as he swung the Keyblade down, unaware of the magical energy gathering at the tip.
A moment of emotional distress and fear caused a release of magical power, unleashed when Lelouch swung his weapon. Flames erupted from the weapon, engulfing the Heartless and destroying them in one blow. Parts of the hallway had been scorched by the attack. Lelouch was stunned by what he had just done.
"How did you do that, Master Lelouch?" said Sayoko.
"I wish I knew, Sayoko," Lelouch answered gesturing for her to follow. "Come on. We need to keep moving."
The pair hurried down the hallway seeking the elevator. Along the way they saw some resistance fighters with some Chinese Federation soldiers. There were four of them. Thankfully they hadn't spotted them, but they were blocking the way to the elevator.
"Master Lelouch, please watch over your sister," Sayoko said, laying Nunnally down against a wall.
"Please Miss Sayoko, be careful," Nunnally said. Lelouch was silent, knowing what their maid had in mind.
"Do not worry, Lady Nunnally. After all I am 37th successor of the Shinozaki School of martial arts!"
Pulling out some homemade smoke bombs, Sayoko hurled them forward. They detonated around the feet of the enemy at the elevator leaving them blind and confused in a cloud of smoke. Drawing kunai hidden under her dress, Sayoko rushed into the smoke cloud, hurling the blades as she went. The undead soldiers barely saw it coming as they stuck vital points in their necks. They did not fall, but Sayoko used two kunai in her hands to slash their necks open, finishing them off. When the smoke finally cleared, Sayoko stood there victorious.
"Nicely done, Sayoko," Lelouch complimented, approaching with Nunnally carried on his back.
"Thank you. I apologize for making more of a mess than I would've liked."
Lelouch studied the corpses of the men Sayoko had killed, and noticed the lack of blood and the abnormal skin tone of the dead.
The stains on their uniforms, the damage, their skin tone, it all matches the corpses Suzaku and I once saw, seven years ago.
He remembered when he and Suzaku were trying to survive during Japan's war against Britannia while trying to take care of Nunnally. They had passed through the remains of a town where they found dead bodies with a similar skin tone. Most of the structures had been demolished and the lack of fires and smoke were indicators the devastation had happened days ago.
These men must've been dead for days. How were they moving? Maybe that's part of the reason they did not notice us, a lack of full awareness?
Lelouch could only speculate. He did not believe in the supernatural his experiences with his Keyblade in the past twenty-four hours, but the walking dead forced him to have an open mind.
What is happening here? Are the others going to be alright?
Glancing outside through the windows, Lelouch saw dozens of Ashford Academy students, some in various forms of sleepwear, attempting to flee from the enemy undead soldiers. Their movements were slow and quite sluggish to evading them was easy enough, but their weapons made them truly dangerous.
Even worse were the Heartless, being much faster and nimbler as they chased down some students, turning them like they had turned that one student from before. The sound of fighting outside intensified as Lelouch caught a glimpse of police lights. It had to be law enforcement and their Knight-police Units fighting the Chinese Knightmare Frames. He couldn't see the fight, but the sound of gunfire and lights were indicators enough.
"Master Lelouch, I've got the elevator," Sayoko called.
"Let's go."
The trio quickly boarded the elevator, Sayoko pushing the button until the doors closed.
"Brother, what about Milly, Rivalz, Nina and Shirley?"
"Milly lives off campus. I am sure she'll be fine."
"What about everyone else?"
Lelouch hesitated to answer. He knew the chances of them escaping such an attack was slim. He didn't like to think about their survival chances, but he had to acknowledge the chances of his fellow Student Council members escaping alive was slim.
There is still a chance?
"Hopefully they escaped, but there isn't anything we can do to stop this. All we can do is hope for the best," Lelouch said reluctantly. It was a bitter pill he had to make Nunnally swallow, but he knew going out there to help would be suicide.
Even so, the situation outside made it all the clearer that they had to escape.
After exiting the elevator, the trio made their way into the waterways where the water reservoir for to Ashford Academy and the surrounding area was. It connected to the sewers, giving the trio a safe passage to escape the school and hopefully wait it out, until the authorities could get the situation under control.
But as they crossed the large metal bridge over the gathering water, over a dozen Heartless appeared to bar their path. Even more appeared behind them, trapping the group between them. However, they did not attack.
"Impressively well done!"
Thrasir appeared from a portal of darkness before the trio, applauding them.
"Perhaps there is hope for you yet, but you can't escape, Keyblade Wielder."
"Did you attack the academy just to get to ME?" snarled Lelouch.
"The Heartless have great fear of the Keyblade. They got riled up when a new wielder appeared, but I didn't think a second one would appear on this magic-less world. That just made it easier for us to track you down."
Thrasir pulled a white crystal from her cloak, and it began glowing brightly.
"Ah. Well, this is very unexpected. It seems that girl on your back is a Princess of Heart. What a productive night this has been, even more so than I had expected."
Sayoko rushed the woman with kunai in hand, hurling a handful of them at her. Unfortunately, they bounced harmlessly off an invisible magical barrier. Despite that, Sayoko boldly charged, her instincts as a trained shinobi telling her this woman was extremely dangerous. She would have told Lelouch to run, but there was no escape. So Sayoko decided to risk it all in an all-or-nothing gambit to take out the enemy leader. The maid attacked the barrier furiously, but Thrasir only watched dispassionately, before she summoned her green spell tome into one hand.
Fueling magic into the barrier, Thrasir used it to repel and stun Sayoko long enough for her to conjure a sphere of green flames. Compressed into a sphere, Thrasir released it, striking Sayoko in the stomach. She was sent flying into the wall on the other side, behind Lelouch and Nunnally. The Heartless didn't descend upon her, but that could mean she hadn't survived. Putting his sister down, Lelouch held up the Keyblade, but when he tried to reproduce what he had done earlier, nothing happened.
"You lack the training to properly use it. That display earlier was impressive for someone not trained in magic," Thrasir said, approaching Lelouch. He was starting to feel desperate. Panicking and wanting to survive, Lelouch charged her, but instead of using a magical barrier she mockingly dodged all of the young man's attempts.
"How disappointing."
"Brother!"
Lelouch looked over his shoulder to see the Heartless approaching Nunnally. He broke away to protect his sister, but his panic and fear for Nunnally's wellbeing left him open to attack. A sphere of magic hit Lelouch in the back. It wasn't as powerful as the one that hit Sayoko, just enough to floor him.
"BROTHER!"
"Nunnally!" Lelouch cried out, but the Keyblade was kicked away from him.
Thrasir put a foot on Lelouch's back, kicking him when he rolled over in pain.
"You can't protect anyone like that, not even your own sister. You are a pathetic excuse for a brother," Thrasir said, kicking Lelouch in the stomach.
With a cry of anger, Lelouch called the Keyblade back into his hand. With another swing the young man unleashed another blast of magical energy. Thrasir dodged it, but the blast caused considerable damage to the wall of the enormous chamber.
"Better than your last one, but your lack of training is sickening, given the power a Keyblade can give. It's wasted on you. And you could've done so much for your sister..."
Thrasir's mocking made Lelouch's blood boil, before he could act, the hooded woman used magic to create chains of green magic to restrain him. Unable to move, feeling completely helpless, Lelouch could only listen to Nunnally beginning to panic, pleading for someone to help her.
The hooded woman was quiet, using her magic to force Nunnally into a forced slumber.
"NUNNALLY!" Lelouch cried, struggling in vain against the chains.
"I am going to tell you exactly what's going to happen to her," Thrasir said as she knelt down, grabbing Lelouch by the hair to make him look at her. "She'll live, but as Princess of Heart I'll give her to someone known as the Mistress of all Evil. There, she will join others like her. I can promise she'll be fine, but once all seven are gathered I can't guarantee her safety beyond that."
Thrasir slapped him across the face.
"Blame yourself for being weak. Without power, you can't make anything you want to happen. You have a Keyblade, a weapon of great power in the right hands."
Lelouch tried to defiantly spit in her face, but Thrasir used magic to deflect it with a quick barrier. With an annoyed grunt, she slammed Lelouch's head into the metal platform.
"As for you, Keyblade wielders like you are very rare. So, you get to live, but I'll leave you some place more hostile than this world, where magic exists. If you survive and learn how to wield that Keyblade, you could save your sister and fulfill whatever ambitions you have. Should you fail, your sister will die once her usefulness is fulfilled. I want you to remember that, and remember how weak you are!"
Stepping away, Thrasir gathered magic into her hands as her open green tome floated near her. Lelouch cried out in agony as she tortured him. She was careful not to kill him. She made certain it would be painful, wanting to burn this memory of this failure into his mind. He could do nothing, and it continued until Lelouch lost consciousness. Thrasir stood silently over Lelouch as he lay unconscious, his Keyblade vanished. Moments later a dark portal opened as Zeref walked through.
"This is the Keyblade Wielder?"
"Yes. He has potential, and he has proven to be resourceful," Thrasir replied, adding with a disappointed tone. "He has no idea what he has, and despite being intelligent, his body is pathetically weak. The Keyblade is wasted on him as he is now."
"So you plan to deposit him on a world where he could learn to master it?"
"Yes, although I don't have a lot of hope for this one. But the Architect insisted he lives, yet commanded I make his failings known to him, and that I should motivate him."
"I see," Zeref said with a hand on his chin before noticing Nunnally. "And what of the girl?"
Thrasir didn't reply, reaching for her hood. She removed it, revealing her face. Her mid-back length gray hair was left to hang freely, and her blood red eyes stood out. She wore a black mask around her eyes and black horns made her more distinctive, and her unnaturally pale skin matched how cold her heart and emotions were.
"She is a Princess of Heart. She'll go to Maleficent, as per our agreement with her."
"I am sure that will motivate that young man. Maleficent only has one Princess of Heart so far," Zeref said, kneeling down to inspect Nunnally to make sure she was in good health.
"The boy will have time, as long as Maleficent doesn't find them too easily. But Architect believes he could be useful for our other plans. I am doubtful, but I will fulfill his request."
"What world will he be sent too? Zeref asked rising to his feet.
"A very dangerous world I know all too well. If that doesn't make a Keyblade Wielder out of him, then he deserves to die."
A/N: Unlike Lelouch obtain his Geass, getting a Keyblade didn't give him as many quick benefits he could capitalize on. This chapter was designed to be similar to Lelouch obtaining his Geass in episode one, but things not going the same after that. Not to mention it's a reverse from what happened with Sora too.
I should note I plan to drastically change things for KH while some major events might happen in some form things will begin diverging after a certain point.
Especially since there is a party of villains who have a deal with Maleficent and maybe others, but what kind of moves will they make besides giving Britannia advance tech which includes the means to travel to other worlds. Furthermore what makes them so sure they will?
Also what happened to Lelouch's friends? Well Lelouch won't know for a long time, but you only need to ask yourselves this…would I really kill them off screen?
With Nunnally's abduction Lelouch will have plenty of motivation to master the Keyblade, but how he'll travel from world to world will be a problem when he crosses that bridge.
What world is Thrasir is going to dump him on in the next chapter?
And what kind of organization has the likes of Zeref and Ardyn Izunia as leaders in command of the Heartless who has people like Thrasir and Eif as allies?
Lastly I have a new poll on my profile which will decide what overall series should be used. It will mention which series I am already planning to use besides what has been mentioned in the chapter.
Two subtle hints are with Professor Zagger's scenes.
As for pairings, I have a few in mind, but nothing set in stone because Lelouch's priority will be saving Nunnally. But he'll need to master the Keyblade and get some allies first.
As for series to be visited as worlds I have settled on the following so far, not in any particular order.
Akame ga Kill
Final Fantasy 14
Final Fantasy 15
Aldnoah Zero
Madoka Magica/Magia Record
Venus Blood Frontier
Fairy Tail
Fire Emblem Heroes
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Hercules
Danganronpa
Heavy Object
Cross Ange
Sunrider
Buddy Complex
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy Type-0
Code Geass
I hope that covers all questions, and as I've mentioned I have I have pre-made some chapters already, but I will wait about a week before the next one to let feedback flow in.
Thank you for reading and I hope you guys enjoyed it, and thanks in advance for any reviews, favorites and follows.
