Sadly I don't own Star Wars: Clone Wars.
Please let me know what you think. My first Clone Wars one-shot, I hope you enjoy it.
Snippy Padawan.
He had never truly given much thought about the prospect of training a padawan even though it was expected of a Jedi Master. Anakin couldn't really understand it. One of his greatest ambitions, aside from living with Padme and making it work without everything falling apart, which would be spectacularly simple with the war on, was to become a great Jedi.
And yet, for reasons which escaped Anakin, he had not given any thought at all about training a padawan learner and he wondered what Yoda was thinking by giving him one without consulting him first. He had more than enough to deal with only a few months following the start of the Clone Wars, now he had adapted to his new arm after battling Dooku on Geonosis.
Obi-Wan seemed to think having an apprentice of his own was a good idea, something Anakin had disagreed with. Personally, he had never seen himself as a teaching sort, and even now he had been made a Jedi Knight, he knew he was closer to the role of Master. Anakin had always seen himself as the frontline kind of Jedi, the kind who spent as much time away from the Temple on Coruscant as he could. But it had never really occurred to him. He didn't understand why.
And yet…
Anakin hated to admit it, but he could see Obi-Wan arguments when Ahsoka Tano first presented herself to him and Obi-Wan. The girl was a young Togrutan and he had met more than his fair share who were capable fighters. The scariest thing about Ahsoka aside from her sharp-tongue and her spunky attitude was she reminded Anakin a great deal of himself. That must have been one of the factors behind Yoda choosing her to become his apprentice. She certainly had the attitude and drive, the impatience and the guts to really prove herself, much as Anakin did, although he knew they would stubbornly deny it.
The most fascinating thing about her was although she was eager to please and eager to prove herself worthy of becoming a Jedi Knight herself, Ahsoka was more than willing to tease him. Anakin had been astonished when she had called him 'Skyguy' but he knew she hadn't meant to be nasty about it.
In turn, he had started to call her Snips.
Now the Battle was over with, and the Republic had won the battle yet again now the Separatist forces on the planet had been broken up now the shield had been destroyed and the blockade was broken allowing the Jedi and the Republic to send in more reinforcements to turn the tide since the battle has depended on the Republic forces growing weaker and weaker until the Separatists could declare their own victory, Anakin sensed the girl's apprehension and worry even as he felt Yoda's presence on the planet.
When Anakin had first met the spunky girl earlier, she had been eager to please and self-assured. Now she seemed like a different person. Anakin had been growing attached to her during the course of the battle and he didn't want her to go. She seemed to have grown on him.
He sat down next to her quietly, listening to the sounds of the troop carriers as they flew overhead.
Ahsoka looked depressed she'd screwed up. Anakin felt sorry for her, knowing how he'd felt from time to time himself over the years when his hotheaded streak cost him and Obi-Wan occasionally.
"You're reckless, little one," Anakin began, seeing out of the corner of his eyes the wince Ahsoka gave to his words but he went ahead with what he needed to say to her, "You never would have made it as Obi-Wan's padawan."
He paused as he observed her. Ahsoka had her eyes closed in sadness, and his heart went out to her, and he decided to simply get it out.
"But you might make it as mine," Anakin finished, turning to watch her reaction.
Ahsoka was looking at him with astonishment before her expression became joyful. Anakin smiled back at her kindly before he stood up. "Come on."
His smile grew as he heard her stand up, and Anakin flagged down a passing carrier.
After accepting Rex's congratulations, Anakin smiled at Ahsoka and Rex's nickname for her. He wondered if 'Kid' was going to be what Rex was going to be calling her from now on, but he had a feeling the Togruta wasn't going to suddenly lose it with him…although he would likely pay Rex back for snickering at her nickname for himself.
Still, Skyguy actually sounded cool.
As their carrier flew over the city and the landing site of the new Republic Star Destroyers ferrying the new troops, who were marching like white ants in formation, Anakin shared another look with Ahsoka before looking down at the ground, easily picking out the tall distinctive form of Obi-Wan although he would have missed Yoda if it wasn't for the Grand Master's distinctive aura.
"Thanks for the ride, Rex," Anakin told the Clone commander who had rapidly become one of the most trusted Clone commanders under both himself and Obi-Wan next to Cody.
"Anytime, sir," the distinctive accent of Jango Fett who had passed on his accent to the Clone Army replied before Anakin and Ahsoka jumped off of the carrier and headed for Yoda and Obi-Wan. The two Jedi Masters were pleased to see him and Ahsoka, and he could feel pride in the Force and he knew Ahsoka could feel it as well.
"Master Obi-Wan, Master Yoda," Anakin greeted the two Masters as he and Ahsoka came closer to them.
"Mm, trouble you have with your new Padawan, I hear," Yoda spoke in his strange syntax as he gazed up between himself and Ahsoka.
Anakin sensed Ahsoka's reaction and her worry, but he had no intention of losing her now.
"I was explaining the situation to Master Yoda," Obi-Wan confessed.
"Really?" Anakin asked, looking at Obi-Wan in a way that said the situation had changed. In truth, he wasn't surprised to hear his old friend say that. But since they'd been separated to carry out different stages of the plan to overturn the Separatists, Obi-Wan wouldn't have known how well he and Ahsoka had worked together.
Obi-Wan caught the message, and a slow smile was spreading across his face.
"If not ready for a Padawan, you are, then perhaps Obi-Wan we can-," Yoda began, although Anakin had no idea if the little green gremlin had noticed the exchange between himself and Obi-Wan or not, and this was a test to see if he would defend Ahsoka. Yoda was quite old, but Anakin knew the Grand Master was experienced enough to read facial expressions even without the Force.
"Now, wait a minute. I admit Ahsoka is a little rough around the edges," Anakin interrupted, seeing her downcast expression at the notion what she knew already was not good enough for him despite what he had said earlier, "but with a great deal of training, and patience," Anakin couldn't believe what had just come out of his mouth any more than Yoda or Obi-Wan did, "she might amount to something."
You already are amounting to something, Snips, Anakin telepathically sent to Ahsoka. You just need a little more time, that's all.
Thanks…. Master Skyguy!
Anakin smirked at the nickname.
"Then go with you, she will…," Yoda declared before he gave fresh orders to him and Ahsoka.
