Sadly I don't own Godzilla, namely Shin Godzilla.

Please let me know what you think.

The Weapon of Nature.

Extract taken from a New Scientist article dubbed "Mutated Monsters;" written by Professor Hayashida, University of Tokyo.

"When Gojira, aka Godzilla first appeared in Tokyo Bay as a worm-like tail rising out of the water following signs of incredible heat, many people including those in the Japanese government demanded what it was. Before the tail appeared, the government debated if it was volcanic activity. However, that's not so, as we have tunnels crisscrossing under the bay, and so we know much of the geology of our city. Unfortunately, opinion and scientific knowledge were divided; nobody knew what it was. It's a common misconception among many people that scientists are expected to know everything.

"Unfortunately when residents in Tokyo woke up and spotted the bay bubbling, and a strange worm-like tail protruding from the surface, nothing was done. No research boat was launched, no divers were sent to investigate. No. All the government did was sit in session for hours, consulting scientists who didn't even have a clue simply because they had nothing to formulate a theory on. The then Prime Minister at the time believed the armchair theory the creature would not and could not come onto land.

"The creature climbed on land, and there are enough clips shot of the event for people to compare this early form of Gojira; compared to its later form this early form, while possessing several of the key traits of Gojira, crawled painfully across the city while being pushed by its developed legs. From its gills, as I'm sure many of Tokyo's residents who witnessed this moment in our city's history, blood leaked. Much of this substance was collected and 'destroyed' by the USA. I have strong doubts about that, no scientist in their right mind would ever allow the destruction of materials for research.

"However, something happened at that point of Gojira's exposure to the world. It stopped. The creature actually stopped in downtown Tokyo when it could have gone much further. And then, its body, according to the clips recovered from local CCTV feeds and civilians who were hiding nearby, seemed to 'ripple,' changing with every second as if the rubbery flesh was hardening, like a snake shedding its skin although it happened much more quickly. The creature's legs shifted before it stood up and roared.

"The Prime Minister and the government had ordered the defence force to attack the creature and hopefully kill it, but civilians got in the way and they were forced to cancel the attack. Many have since criticised the PM for the decision, reasoning two lives were not worth the enormous number of people living in Tokyo, and were at risk. Logically, and as a scientist, I am trained to think rationally and logically, that belief makes sense; that part of downtown Tokyo suffered a lot of damage to property, and many lives were lost in only a few hours.

"I don't think an attack would have worked. In his later form, Gojira had evolved an armoured shell; its scales were so strong and thick, they repelled bullets and other weapons. Nothing penetrated the creature's hide in that time, and I have no doubt the creature's hide prior to its next evolutionary step would have repelled weapons fire as well.

"In the aftermath, several things were discovered. The key to unravelling the mystery behind the creature's nature was discovering the creature's unique relationship with nuclear fission. By its very nature, nuclear fission is an unlikely power source for fuelling any biological mass. Visit Chernobyl sometime. Look at the animals and plants that have been bathed in the fallout of the meltdown. Nuclear fallout has been known to cause many types of cancer, so it's considered highly unlikely to be capable of sustaining a life-form and helping it evolve so quickly.

"But it's true. Gojira is proof of that. Scientists and other intellects spent hours and clocked many hours into studying the creature, and they have the proof to back up what we know about the creature. It is sustained by radioactivity. In the aftermath of its first appearance, local Geiger counters detected trace elements of radioactivity. On its second appearance, where it fired beams of destructive energy from its mouth and tail, radiation spiked in the city. Gora Maki, a scientist who had spent years studying the effects of radioactive waste dumped on the seabed over the years, and discovered that primitive lifeforms which had survived underwater, millions of years through the age of the dinosaurs, far from dying or suffering the usual effects of fallout, would evolve.

"Much of Maki's research is lost, missing, or being held in some archive somewhere. I know he spent much of his career studying the reality of Gojira, and he devised a clever means of immobilising the creature with a special compound that froze Gojira. I and many other scientists are currently studying the creature, knowing there is a chance Gojira will evolve a means of becoming immune to the compound which took an international think-tank to devise, along with a feasible plan while the United States and the government came up with a plan to drop a nuclear bomb on Gojira; it was insane. They had clearly become desperate. Unfortunately, in their desperation, their reality was clouded. Gojira's body contained a natural supply of nuclear energy and showed signs of being able to absorb energy. A nuclear bomb would have destroyed Tokyo completely, exactly as Hiroshima had been destroyed, the air and water supply poisoned far beyond the capacity for the survivors to understand, but Gojira would not have been harmed; on the contrary, the creature would have soaked up the radiation into itself, and when that happened its capacity to evolve, to grow, would have increased.

"If that had happened, Maki's plans for the compound could very well have been foiled, and our own reign on Earth could have come to a terrible end."

"Gojira remains frozen in Tokyo, but everyone has no doubt he is evolving once more; the cooling compound pumped into his body has stopped him, but people visiting and studying his body, myself and other scientific minds included, have seen strange, almost human-shaped organisms appearing on his body, and his scales seem to be reforming into these creatures as if they are garage doors opening to admit a car.

"Samples taken of his DNA, mostly from the creatures' still open and still irradiated mouth, have shown the mutative process is still ongoing; the samples are being analysed under different conditions to determine what kind of forms Gojira could transform into. I have personally spent the last 6 months going over 3 dozen such samples, and I have found dozens of potential new forms for Gojira. Right now the Japanese and the Americans are going over new plans to combat Gojira's new forms.

"While all of this is well and good, I have also seen a new popularity in the study of radioactive waste and its effects on deep-sea marine life. I too have also studied such effects; what we have found is worrying. Many scientists would like to dismiss the possibility, but I won't. There are dozens of still as yet undiscovered prehistoric lifeforms, many of them so undisturbed, and somehow could be able to metabolise radiation and use it to evolve in the same manner as Gojira. In fact, my studies have shown this is so.

"Gojira is the evolution of a prehistoric genus, which follows completely different biological and evolutionary laws - it's possible, and likely the very original creature bathed in the radioactive waste for years comes from a genus where those laws were more flexible than they are now, and radiation does not harm the organisms' cell structure.

"Gojira is a weapon of nature, and it is likely many more of them are out there, waiting to appear with the same evolutionary capacity. We need to be ready."
